They *want* you to make alts. They've put a ton of work into making the game alt-friendly. They're not going to do a ton of work to negate that and encourage you to use less slots.

you can have different builds in game now, pri/sec stays the same, but you can swap out pool powers and slotting, allowing you to have different setup for solo or teams or whatever.
  2. The old /h was kinda funny...someone would pop in saying something like "enhancements"
and everyone would go "/h is a chat channel, not the help menu"..so it does make sense that they changed it to the more standard /h opens help menu. They just need to make it a bit less picky about how many arguments it can parse and just open the menu anytime it sees /h.
  3. Silver bullets wouldn't work on Council wolves anyway (well, no more than our regular bullets do)...Nictus bullets, though...

  6. The problem with reds visiting blue is the "hey! there's a villain committing villainy! I'll get em...or not.." issue, since we don't have (and nor should we) open pvp. I don't think it's something we'll ever see outside of instanced missions.
  7. Seeing as it's not out yet, and that they've told us that there are choices to be made in the missions, how can you know that it's *not* as black/white as the website suggests? You don't put the plot on the back of the book synopsis, after all.

What I'm averse to is the 'raid treadmill' approach. When I played WoW last year, it was during the months after the Lich King release. By the time I reached 80 with a character, all of the raiders were already like, 'lolNaxx,' right?

So basically they took me through Naxx and got me gear and so forth and then the next raid was released, so we went into that raid and all my Naxx gear immediately became obsolete. Then the next raid came out and all my gear from the Ulduar raid immediately became obsolete. This was all in the span of about 5-6 months, right?

You can imagine how many people wanted to play all of the raids from Core WoW and the Burning Crusade. Which means there was a world of content I never got to see at all because if the gear from like 3 weeks ago was already obsolete, you can imagine how prehistoric the gear from last year is.

At any rate, as long as they don't start the treadmill approach, I can deal with raids. I can deal with the idea that there are just some threats that cannot be handled by a single hero or even a single team of 8. But here's the thing... if you are going to do that, leave them like that.

There's nothing worse to me than what was once a global level threat who gets thwacked to death in three hits because developers have raised the aggregate power level of the player base with the constant raid treadmill power boosts to the point that content from a year is completely obsolete.

Much like I said earlier, this isn't the kind of thing I'm worried about, given the track record the Devs have shown in knowing what keeps the players they have here, and what makes this game different from others.
  9. Seriously this. My blaster isn't hanging back picking off targets, he's all over the place, applying burnination as needed, and since my MM's tend towards /dark, they're also rather active, despite their "attacks" being fairly autonomous. "Active playstyle" isn't something that's inherent in the AT or powerset combo, but more in the build and how the player uses it.
  10. Oh no. The one group designed to give melee'rs a bit of a speedbump (as opposed to the rest of the game that they plow though) actually does just that?

I don't have much experience in other MMOs (basically just being in the same room while my husband is playing WoW or discussing it with his friends). And then there are the umpty-bajillion threads/suggestions here that seem to say that WoW-style raids are what is meant by End Game.

If that type of activity is NOT what is meant by End Game, then what is? This is a serious question, since the primary use of the term as I have seen it here (in Player Questions asking "why is there no End Game?' or "where is the End Game?" and in Suggestions and Ideas suggesting that the Devs should add End Game, which nigh invariably ends up meaning WoW-style raids) is what I dread seeing added.

Am I "convinced" that is what is being added? Perhaps not, but I have no other frame of reference to go by.

Oh and by the way - if that "rude" parent who may need to go afk advises me at the get-go that interruptions might happen - that's not rude, that's courteous, and I will happily team with such a player if I know the situation. Parents like teaming, too.

I'm imagining something like GG mentioned earlier...something incorporating the latest winter lord type, seeing as they've mentioned zone events...honestly, though, I don't know. However, I've been here long enough to trust that the devs know the core of the playerbase, and that they know that one of the biggest strengths of the game is that it *isn't* a game that starts at 50.

And yeah, if every one involved is cool with the random afks, it's not a big deal...but when someone's lfm for a TF, it's probably not the best idea to respond if you know you're gonna be afk a lot, is all i meant.

If I can't become Incarnate and get the same benefits if I don't raid, then I'm going to be very unhappy.

Also, since there are already other games out there that have the big mega raid end game - go play them for that type of content. City has broken the mold of those games, so it shouldn't need to go copy them now without at least some attempt at maintaining it's casual playstyle for the soloer or duoer or parent who plays between taking care of the kids or person who can only play 30-45 minutes because there's homework or whatever.

Ok...You said it yourself. CoX is already completely unlike a WoW style raid game. A good percentage of the playerbase likes it that way. The Devs *know* this. Tell me again why you seem convinced that the Devs are going to go down this route that's completely counter to what has gone before?

edit. That's not to say that there's nothing in the game that is "uncasual"....you're not gonna duo Hami, and it's just rude to team if you're gonna be afk randomly for who knows how long, but that aside...why are you so convinced that there gonna put in a progression system completely counter to the rest of the progression in the game.?

  14. Yeah...after 6 years here, It seems to me the devs have a pretty good handle on what kind of players their game has....I'd doubt they'd go all "endgame=second job" at this point.
  15. We're talking about a Primary set here...Fluffy don't count.

edit. Also, look at the icon for Hell on Earth...multiple figures...so I'm gonna go with something more Gang War than the Spectral from Necro.
  17. I'm guessing one of those is something along the lines of Gang War..short term, uncontrolled summons..seeing as no other MM has 7 henches. Looks schweet tho

  21. Exactly. Everyone knows that DS is a part of GR. No one has said that it isn't. What has been said is that DS being tested along with I17 doesn't not make I17 CB into GR CB, as far as the V/L/H group automatically getting into I17 CB. It has yet to be determined if the group promised access to GR CB will get into I17 CB.

I really have no idea what Bzald's trying to say with his 3rd line.

The thing is, though, it does not matter if DS is being tested with I17. There's still no statement from the Devs that the V/L/H group is getting in to I17 CB due to that.
As I've said, all we know for sure is that group gets into GR CB. You can not assume that they'll automatically get into I17 CB due to DS simply because they got into DP CB. They might, but until the Devs say, it's best to assume they won't. There's no such thing as a precedent when it comes to CB selection.

Or the villains theme... muah ha ha haah!

John Williams ain't been busy lately, right? I'm sure they could get him on the cheap
  24. This whole thread is silly at this point.
What do we all agree on?
    1) There's a group (V/L/H) that the Devs said will get into the Closed Beta for Going Rogue.
    2) There's a Closed Beta on Test as we speak, Issue 17.
    3) Ultra Mode is included in I17.
    4) The V/L/H group was allowed to test Dual Pistols during it's CB.
    5) As of now, the Devs have not said anything about the V/L/H group getting access to I17 CB, or if Demon Summoning is being tested along with I17.

Does that about sum up the relevant facts at hand?

After that it's iffy speculatory stuff....like the V/L/H's getting into the I17 beta because DS is being tested. That's speculation or wishful thinking.
It certainly *could* happen, but there's nothing saying it *has* to happen, as the Devs haven't said anything about it. They haven't said that DS is being tested. If it is, there's nothing saying that the V/L/H's are getting into I17's CB just because one powerset of the GR expansion is in it.

There's no such thing as a precedent when it comes to CB tester selection, only Dev say-so.

No... You are assuming a precedent has been set. Just because the Devs let the Vet/Loyal/Comicon group into the CB for Dual Pistols, does not mean they have to let them into anything other than the GR CB. If DS is currently being tested in I17, they very well might let that group in, but it was not promised, and you can't assume they will follow what they did with DP.

And you're misunderstanding (or at least it appears that way from your 2nd statement) what TJ is saying. Being a member of the Vet/Loyal/Comicon group means you *will* get into the GR CB. You will absolutely positively have access to the CB for GR before it goes into Open Beta. What may not happen is immediate, day one, the moment it shows up on Test Server, access.
