I'm not sure if the person who neg-repped me with the comment "troll" was signing their rep comment or what.

Correct, the captive will become hostile as soon as they are rescued. There was also something in the i17 feature list about "MA improvements", so it might be possible when i17 is released.
-
Because limiting options is bad? What reasoning would you give for making such a restrictive powerset?

Quote:So there wasn't a post from a dev saying that this is the temporary fix and a permanent solution would be coming right around the release of i17? Oh wait...there was.so there wasn't a patch that made "allies" eat up a lot of xp in ae missions?
Quote:Hey everyone,
We wanted to take a moment to address issues that have come up regarding the latest patch that has been released. We certainly understand a lot of your concerns and we want to do our best to alleviate them.
The change that has been implemented is a temporary change to combat a long standing exploit. This was a stopgap fix that we had to put out until we could come up with a more permanent solution. We certainly do not want to leave your arcs in a state where using them in non-exploitive ways results in little to no experience being gained.
Myself, pohsyb, Television, War Witch, along with everyone else here involved in the operations of Mission Architect, are doing everything we can to arrive at a solution that we can all agree on.
We currently plan to implement a solution in issue 17 or soon thereafter (and I mean actual soon and not Soon™) . We can't go into detail about what exactly is planned, but it will alleviate the current issue that many of you are having, which is finding your normal arcs are rewarding little experience.
Anyone who has a normal story arc that is drastically affected by this change should not go about overhauling your work. We are going to make sure that this upcoming fix will stop exploitive behavior within Architect while also allowing you all to be as creative as you want within the system - without extremely negative consequences.

Well, you can have a captive that you rescue turn hostile, and you can spawn a hostile NPC from a glowie click, but I don't think you can pick a random NPC to turn hostile at a specific point.
-
You'd probably have to make it two missions. In the first, the "villain" would be a friendly NPC while you click glowies or search for clues. The final clue would lead you to a second location, more friendly NPCs and glowies, and then you could trigger the villain to appear after one of those glowies is clicked.

I am amused that not only does the villainside Hami title say 'Rouge Isles', but one of the tags seems to refer to something called a 'monthership'.

Quote:Thanks Chad, I only have used beginchat in my binds because the only chat binds I have are for global channels!Fixed.
"Startchat" is used to start a completely blank message.
"Beginchat" is used with a string parameter, and enters that string before any message you might type. It's very useful when making a global chat bind, such as:Code:/bind key "beginchat /send GLOBAL_CHANNEL " (quotation marks required to get the extra space at the end)

Let me tell you, there's nothing like a good long boss fight with my Belinda Carlisle Pandora station turned up.
This created problems during the live mission event at HeroCon last year, where one of the tasks was to sing/hum the Atlas Park Freedom Plaza music. Nobody in my group could remember it, because none of us had heard it in so long! -
Hmm...iron. Snaptooth defeated once and for all?!? Man, I can hope, can't I?
-
Via ParagonWiki, the incomplete and unofficial guide to /bind.
For (1): /bind enter "afk your message here$$beginchat" (I think, I've never done this one)
For (2): /bind k "cce 0 ccninjajump" (to switch to costume slot 0 using the ninjaleap costume change emote) -
Quote:So you're already passing judgment on the permanent solution that hasn't been implemented yet? That's...well, that's about par for the course, actually.Yes it should be rolled back till they find a good solution. The permanent solutions tend to be worse than the problems.
I hope i17 goes open beta this week, just because it will probably bring a bit more variety into these death-spiral threads. I will need to get more popcorn, though... -
This thread confused the hell out of me until I read the dates...
Ah, the olden days. And by "olden days", I mean "6 months before I started playing the game." -
*throws up hands* Alright, mental note: always check ParagonWiki first. I knew the guide was old when I linked it, but I assumed (first mistake) that since there wasn't a more recent one, it was still reasonably accurate.

Quote:Well, think about it this way. If you get a villain to, say 35ish, and then take them heroic, what do you do when you get to 41? You can't go visit the villain patrons, so you need to have versions of the hero ancillary pools. Not sure how I feel about this rumor. If a fifty switches side, he basically has to reroll his powers? How/why did he forget/lose some of his powers? Hopefully fifties get an option here if this rumor is true.
Which means you have to make the villain patron pools available to heroes who do the reverse. This assumes, of course, that we'll be able to switch sides between level 20 and level 50 (which I could swear was said either at PAX or in one of the Going Rogue threads, but for the life of me I can't find it anywhere). -
Quote:Are you being deliberately dense? The continual nerfing of AE is really annoying. Players will always find exploits. By the time you have nerfed every possible exploit players will be so disinterested in AE that it will no longer be drawing people to the game and instead be pushing people away from it. Already, the numbers of players playing AE missions has dropped significantly. Any time you walk into an AE building in Paragon City or in the Rogue Isles you are sure to see the same thing... no player characters. Just let some of the exploits go. There is nothing wrong with getting some decent experience for the missions we create. At the very least allow us to get the same experience from AE missions that we would from equally challenging regular missions, including exp bonuses which we are allowed in regular missions.
Regular exp - not an exploit. What people were doing with 30+ buff/debuff bots - EXPLOIT. Needed to be fixed. No ifs, ands, or buts.
I agree this patch breaks things that it shouldn't and really is a sledgehammer approach, but let's wait the 2 or 3 weeks for the permanent fix and see what it is. Then, if the sledgehammer hasn't been toned down and things are still broken that shouldn't be, we speak up! -
Quote:All we know is sometime before the end of April. Because Demon Summoning was promised in April and, per the launcher, is being released with issue 17. Therefore, issue 17/Demon Summoning will be here before the end of April.Hello, do you think it will be at the end of April or sometime soon? Also does anyone know if you have to play the EPIC archetypes on the server you have a 20+ on?
Thanks for any information!
And once you get a character to 20+, epics will be unlocked account wide (on all servers). But you do have to get a hero to 20 and a villain to 20 to unlock both redside and blueside epics. -
Quote:First of all, that's "madam", not "sir".If you believe that the development team hasn't created a tool even remotely close to something like this, you sir...I can't even finish it.
I understand there are dev fanbois, but this really cuts the cake. Tools created to assist in maintenance when it comes to databases and other types of technology in this industry are pretty much a requirement. Just wow. I guess if you didn't have a legit rebuttal, ignorance always works.
Second of all, for all I know they do indeed have a tool like this. They should. They probably do. That probability could be 98%. My point was that you can't use an assumption that may or may not be accurate as the entire foundation of your argument.
And "tools created to assist in maintenance..." Yes, I know. But you're speaking generally. Another_Fan seems to think that they have a tool that will immediately spit out a nice, tidy list of which powers need to be affected by this. And, *points to Arcanaville's post*, it's not that easy. Actually, after reading her post, I don't know that you could automate spitting out such a list, since there are so many variables with the powers (pseudopets, AOE buffs that don't target, etc). Or at least, you couldn't automate it *easily*.
Another_Fan's whole argument is that narrowing down the powers that need to be affected is something so ridiculously easy it can be done in a day (again, by pointing to his imaginary tool). It's not. I think, at this point, it's patently obvious that it's not. Regardless of tools available.
Edited to add: I caught this on a second pass through Arcanaville's post:
Quote:There is no such database. There is no such entity of any kind query-capable that exists anywhere within Paragon Studios itself. -
Quote:Sigh. The market =/= the game. Shockingly, people can play the game quite happily without ever touching the market.Oh man, I didn't even THINK of this! LOL IMOA...another patch that has destroyed a great game.
Seriously, hyperbole much? This patch (which Dr. Aeon already said is TEMPORARY) goes too far, I agree. How bout we all get our panties unbunched and wait the few weeks for the "permanent solution" before going off the deep end?
Oh wait, I forgot. It's an internet forum. Carry on, then.
