Put me in the category that feels they should revisit the conversion rate.
The wrinkle that has been pointed out but continually gets glossed over
is: For all practical intents and purposes, nobody converts Inf -> Prestige -
it's simply not worthwhile.
There are NO guides in the base section that advocate doing that conversion.
In fact, they all say DON'T do that.
Until Fulmens, a wealthy (and all too altruistic imho) marketeer started
offering to match prestige for folks willing to convert, there weren't any
forum posts that advocated converting inf to prestige either...
So, IF it IS intended as an influence sink, how effective is it if that doesn't
actually happen???
Make it appealing (while still expensive, say 100-1 ?) and we'll actually see the
conversion (and corresponding inf sink) start occurring.
Also, to put it in perspective (at least *my* perspective), here's what the
prices listed in Antoinette's post (and some I added) work out to...
Code:I'm in a 2 person SG. We don't have anywhere near the earning power ofItem Prestige Influence -------------------------------------------- Cabinet 100 50,000 Plant 100 50,000 Fluorescent Light 500 250,000 Desk (for stacking) 100 50,000 Fire Extinguisher 100 50,000 Corkboard 100 50,000 Medium SG Banner 1000 500,000 Large SG Banner 5000 2,500,000
a large group, and never will but, because we always run in SG mode, we
have a decently equipped base with storage, med bay, a couple tp's...
I listed a mere 8 items in that table. If I look at the cost via conversion,
at the current rate, that's 3.5 Million inf for just those 8 pieces. That's not
Walmart pricing, that's more than the most expensive furniture boutique
you've ever heard of pricing.
I'd love to dabble with some decorative design, but seriously, I can fund my
next alt at least into the L20's (or better) for that kind of cash.
Simply put, there's no sane way to justify that in a small SG.
Maybe that's the way the devs want it, but I can guarantee that I, for one,
am *never* using the conversion at those rates and prices.
I bet, I'm not alone in that thinking...
Now, at a 100-1 rate? That's 700K which is still pretty expensive, but it
starts to look much more appealing... <shrug> YMMV.

A PB gets you all of those (in some measure).
Blaster?: Sure - Nova's attacks are pretty nasty, especially if you slot
with HO's to tweak acc, dmg and range.
Buffs: Sure - You're self contained with your own heals, shields, resistance etc.
Survivability: Yep, got that too with High HP, Essence Boost, and Dwarf
Tank: HP and armor - Yes, indeed - see Survivability...
The tri-form PB can cover a lot of the gaps that a non-epic AT has to
deal with. To be sure, it gives up a little in each of those categories in
comparison to the specific AT's you mentioned, but as a well-rounded PvP
toon, a PB is a pretty decent choice.
Sure, it's more challenging to play well, but for some, that's an additional
part of the appeal.

PS> With the recent reduction in Level required to unlock them,
they're also easier to get, so I'd think that's also a factor for seeing
more of them these days. -
Quote:lol - well it's not a lot of inf (a few 100K iirc), so ya I hear you...err, I never put anything in there... I feel like I should take the money and buy the group pizza and ice cream, or something.
Still, it could probably fill up an inspiration bin with mediums for the group, or
pick up some common salvage solely for use with Empowerment stations or
something along those lines that might help the S/VG's a little, which would
be better than leaving it idle on my toons.

Quote:Fair enough, we're mostly in agreement, but I'm going to add one more quibble. That's why I talked about slotted sets.
Anyway, my point was that not all, not even most, lvl 30 recipes are bought at lvl 30 and for lvl 30 and your correction only reinforces it.
Frankenslotting is (often) better than *full* sets...
All too frequently, full sets won't max the key attributes of the power you
put them in (Acc & Dmg in an attack, for instance) unless you 6-slot (and
sometimes, not even then).
One of the key points of Frankenslotting is to max the core attributes of
the power in fewer total slots, while still providing some useful bonuses.
For the sake of this particular thread, it's historically cheaper than SO's (over
the duration of the build), which is a big help if you're strapped for cash.

To expand/clarify a couple points.
Quote:Frankenslotting is better than that. An L25 duo IO gives 20% bonus to eachOriginally Posted by 3dentMany builders want their set bonuses to exemp down as low as possible and lvl 30-32 is exactly the point where an average slotted set is as good or better as SOs
of its attributes... So, 2 L25 Acc/Dmg IO's (from different sets) would give
you 40% Acc and 40% Dmg for those two slots... Two +3 SO's would only give
38.3%, and L30 Common IO's would only give 34.8%, and, of course, once
you get set bonuses in there, they'll exemplar down to L22.

That's not to say farming is a bad idea and of course, combining both is
even better, but if you can only do one - Marketing will have the larger effect.
Quote:Originally Posted by Fulmens1)Buy recipe, 100K
2) Buy rikti alloy, around a million inf [by 9 PM this will be selling for millions but right now it's 300K...supply and demand swings wildly]
3) Buy everything else, maybe 100K
4) Craft it for half a million
1> SG Base - with storage bins... Fill 'em with drops (2-3 of any item) as
you play... More often than not, I don't even have to buy more than one
piece of salvage for a recipe - the rest was a free byproduct of normal play
2> Depending on your AT/Build use can use AE tix to get the rare salvage.
This is especially helpful if you're starting with low funds, or you have a
farm type build that can run AE easily (see combining Market + Farm above).
Random rolls with tix is more profitable in the long run, but I can see cases
where sacrificing some tix for specific items can be worthwhile - at least,
it was for me...
3> Grab the Marketing Day Job AND the Smuggler (villain) or Shopkeeper (hero)
Day Jobs. Those will get you free tp's to markets everywhere, AND discount
coupons for crafting. ALL of my toons get these Jobs. It adds up.
Those coupons take 100K+ off the crafting fee for L50 IO's - in Fulmen's scenario,
that's the same as getting the recipe for Free.
Quote:Originally Posted by Absorber_NAIs there some type of trick or something that I am missing, because I see all of these IO's for millions of influence, and its just out of my price range.
more than a little knowledge and a little effort.
Read some marketing guides along with the advice in this thread, and put
that info to use and I'm pretty sure the inf issues will be solved fairly quickly.
Good Luck.

Are we maxxed on salvage storage? I keep having to delete stuff like Iron and some of the books. I could let books spread to another rack, but I'm trying to keep it organized so folks [me] can just run to the rack they know the medical stuff or stuff-that-looks-like-soulbound-armor is at.
For a while, I was keeping tabs on that, but the turnover was more frequent
than I was able to log in with those toons to sort out (which reminds me to
check my notes - I owe the group some escrow funds from sell-offs, which
I'll forward to Fulmens)
I'm not sure how likely it is that I'd get the time to get back to that as I
have several other "project" toons that I'm putting a bunch of time to currently.

I'm with many of the posters. Embrace Blasterdom (Def is for wimps
) and
grab your attacks instead of the fighting line.
Short Circuit is a must imho - slot as a damage attack early, then re-slot as
damage/drain once you get Power Sink.
While I said "Embrace Blasterdom" earlier, I don't mean "die a lot". I disagree
with the poster who dislikes Tesla Cage - I use it each and every fight and
combined with the other holds, you can fully lock down a boss OR keep a couple
Miniions/Lts completely out of the fight until you want to deal with them.
I'm a fan of Electric for the epic power as well - E3 builds can be very effective.
GL and Have Fun!

PS> I'm mixed on Sparky - typically he only gets a few shots in before the
dust settles anyway, so I find him more situational... Possibly useful, but
hardly required.
PPS> I don't recommend Lightning Field at all, unless you are deliberately
going for a Blapper build (something that E3 *can* do quite well actually)
at which point I'd have a higher expectation that you know what you're
doing (it's quite a bit more challenging to play it that way). -
I'm not sure I see it being quite so bad as some of the others suggest (Try
some ouros missions below the level of Rage - My brute does fine on them).
On my toons that have BU, I can usually get the recharch high enough to be
ready for every fight (and usually more than once during a fight), so "gimped"
isn't a word I'd use if that change occurred (hypothetically).
Having said that though, I DO agree that Rage is really the cornerstone on which
SS is designed, and losing it would remove a lot of the "fun" of SS for sure.
The difference to me would be the difference between "Effective" vs "OMG this Rocks"
Who wouldn't prefer the latter?

Quote:My criteria are simple - when I can 1-shot guys, I'm playing a damage dealerNo wrong or right answers here of course. Brutes have a specific Taunt power, therefore it makes sense for them to use Taunt and hold aggro. However, Brutes also have Fury, an inherent that pretty much says "keep opening that can of whoopa**"
Just sort of a poll-ish thread to see what most people consider a Brute as.
Do you look for a Brute whenever your team needs extra DPS?
Do you look for a Brute whenever your team needs someone who can soak up the damage?
Or maybe you just don't even look for a Brute in either circumstances :P
I'm a solo player, so the teaming element of your survey doesn't apply for me.

Avatea replied to my PM saying the Copy Tool has been restarted,
so hopefully that will solve the issue (till next time)
I've queued a couple, so I'll see if they arrive by the time I get
home from work today.
Edit: The characters I queued today were copied (Yay!)

So, does this thing ever work???
Is there someone to notify who can fix it?
Over the past several days, I've submitted several copies from Freedom so
I can test some respecs.
Today, I update my test server install, log on, and NONE of the copies ever
got there... <sigh>
Personally, I liked the old perl script better.
In any case, here's a Head's Up on it coupled with a hope that the appropriate
person(s) can get it working again.
Thanks in Advance,

Does anyone know what's up with Paragon Wiki?
I tried to check some info over there and the site appears down.
I'm not sure if I missed a notice of some sort or whether they're just having a bad day on Da Intertubes.
I'd be curious to know what the situation is if anyone is in the know...

Quote:When Villains first came out, and cross-faction PvP was foisted upon us,So, I am not a PvPer and all my current 50s are pretty much PvE solo builds. They suck at PvP for the most part. Since I am looking for a project and new challenge before Going Rogue comes out what PvP toon would you recommend I make? Red or Blue side - either is fine but I have more resources Blue side, for the time being obviously.
Thanks from a PvP noob who has been playing CoH since i4.
I rolled a single toon intended for PvP in the lowest level zone and intentionally
level-capped him there.
While I've since added a few more PvP toons over the years, I still have
that first toon, and I still play it. For a *long* time it was the only toon
I'd PvP with...
What is it? An L28 Stalker.
Why? Several reasons:
1> I'm mostly a solo player, and it's an excellent solo toon (PvE & PvP) that I
enjoy playing (He has 1200+ hours on him).
2> Its stealthy nature means that I determine when (or even if) I get involved
in a PvP fight.
3> Its stealthy nature means that when I'm not actively PvP'ing myself,
I can observe (and learn) what other PvP'ers are doing to get a good sense
of what works and what doesn't. I tend to watch fights a LOT more than
participate in them.
4> Played "properly" (your definition may vary from mine), it's a great toon
to learn PvP with - your fate is entirely in your own hands. You shouldn't die
unless you screw up, and on the flip-side, you should be able to get kills
by taking advantage of the mistakes other players make.
5> It's an AT that you can build on the cheap and still be successful
with. That particular toon is frankenslotted now, but it was a straight
SO build for quite awhile - short of a Stealth IO, you really don't need
a lot of shinies for it to be useful.
For me, that turned out to be an ideal approach to PvP, and were it not for
that toon, I'd have very probably avoided PvP entirely. Instead, I've made more
PvP toons that I enjoy and I typically pop into zones a few times a week.

I think several AT's work just fine with SO's. Of course, how you define
"AWESOME" is a factor as well.
I'd certainly agree with /WP Brute being one of them.
A Kheldian PB (bi-form or tri-form) can also be pretty effective on just an SO build.
To that, I'd also add the good old BA/Ice Tank, which I was playing before
the market - in PvE it's darned near indestructible (it's utterly worthless in
PvP however).
If you don't mind solo play and/or a more deliberate pace, a Stalker is a
viable choice as well, and unlike the tank, it can perform decently in PvP
on SO's as well (with the addition of a Stealth IO).
I'm sure several others would be quite effective with minimum cost builds,
but all of these are toons I have direct experience with myself.

Quote:Some interesting points. You're gimping your exp if you turn off bosses. Low-level bosses are total pushovers worth enormous experience. Why do you think so many AE exploits are set to level 1 missions?
Trust me, bosses on from 1 until between 12 and 15. then off if you start to have trouble with them. They have only 25% more HP than lieuts, but 300% the exp. To me, this is a huge plus.
also, per the math, at all levels, a +2 boss is the best "experience per point of damage dealt". Not the best over time, or any other measure, but for stalkers, this measure may be more relevant. Since we pick and choose our kills. =)
I don't AE much, so I have no idea at all what fotm stuff is run there, but I
will try out the early bosses on the next Stalker I make. I always waited
until L12 (for Placate), but your point makes enough sense to try it.
Of course, getting to L12 is typically just 1 or 2 gaming sessions, so it's not
a big deal either way (imho).
I do run at +2 once frankenslotted - why wait till then? In certain missions,
with certain factions, you can occassionally get Purple con mobs - which
may or may not be a concern, but good slotting helps if/when that occurs.
Also, for me personally, I'm never in a rush to get to L50, and I *hate* dying
much more than I like killing, so backing it down in those cases isn't a concern
to me. In fact, many of my toons are arbitrarily level-capped (for specific
purpose / thematic choices) so "gimping my exp" isn't an issue I'd even
think about normally.
As always, whatever you find fun and suitable for your playstyle is probably best.

I use the damage bonus in the Combat Attributes.
As noted, it is bright red and, Over -9000!!!during the 10 sec Rage crash.
Usually, although I see the crash, I don't give it any thought. At most, it
extends one fight, and typically, Fury is still over 100% once again when
it comes back.

A thoroughly excellent thread, Fury - I greatly enjoyed following it, and
gratz to the Slayer for the winning guess and windfall.
I'd second the other folks who are wondering if the pertinent pieces of this
thread can be consolidated and posted to the Guides section so it doesn't
get eaten by the Forum Monster (or a grue)
I think it would be an excellent resource going forward.

Quote:I would agree with this approach...My feeling has always been, with stalkers, "first and last month is free"- you don't count the first and last guy in the spawn because you're AS'ing them. Which makes "bump level but not number" the way to go.
But I'm not a Stalker expert, so take that with a pound of salt.
Pre SO-scale enhancements, I typically run 0/0 difficulty. I set No Bosses
until L12 when I take Placate.
At L22+ I start running at +1/0, and once core powers are nicely frankenslotted
(L25-L27 or so), I switch to +2/0...
These are pretty conservative (and fairly safe) settings for the solo
stalker.
If you don't mind the occasional death and/or you enjoy chewing candy
a lot, you can set the difficulty higher if you like.
For slotting attacks, I set 60/90 (Acc/Dam) as minimums (which are easily
achieved). That gives me 95% chance to hit most PvE targets unless they
are purple con and/or have resist/+def bonuses against your primary.
Apart from Elec/* stalkers, you don't get much AoE capability, so I personally,
never raise the teammate/spawn difficulty number on my stalkers... YMMV

The purchase history is all I have to go on for making potentially viable bids. Making low shots in the dark that may never hit their mark and waiting weeks on end to get lucky doesn't appeal to me.
Excellent, Sir!
For a customer of discerning tastes such as yourself, clearly quality and
timeliness are of paramount importance.
Why indeed should you be made to suffer in long lines of patient, low-ball
bids posted by the masses of poor, under-financed players?
A player of your calibre, influence and wealth deserves only the best!
At FourSpeed Warez, PLLC, we specialize in the finest quality of enhancements
for the elite buyer. Our premier pricing strategies ensure that stock is always
available for our favorite customers, such as yourself, and we'll do our very best
to accomodate any specialty enhancement needs you might have.
By all means, browse the catalog, and if there's anything you need at all,
don't hesitate to ask - FourSpeed Warez exists to serve your needs and we

PS> While that's totally tongue-in-cheek of course, (and hopefully understood
as humour), it is the sentence I quoted that makes you my favorite customer (truly).
That's not sarcasm or a knock whatsoever at your approach. You are the guys that
allow us marketeers to achieve fine profit margins, and I'm ecstatic to sell to you
(and 500 or more of your favorite like-minded friends).
Because I typically list below top 5 prices (to get the sale), patient bid-creepers,
who end-up buying near my list price kill my margins. Guys who simply look at the
last 5 sales and bid that are exactly the players I *want* to sell to... So, Thanks!
You *are* my favorite type of customer. -
I'm not seeing the liklihood of dev seeding either for a few reasons.
1> The merger should raise supply naturally by some amount.
2> With all major changes, the devs historically have nearly always approached
"tweaking" with a "we'll wait and see what data-mining tells us" attitude.
3> They already have a very controlled way of adjusting supply by incrementally
changing drop-rates if point #2 ever tells them anything meaningful
I'd have to guess that "seeding" would be pretty unlikely.
