Your right it wasn't. It also wasn't very nice to accuse Zek of being condescending when she was trying to be helpful. I have a lot of respect for that lady. If you look at her post and mine you'll see that mine was condescending and hers wasn't.
Quote:It's more of a personal thing really. I don't like being SK'd too high because I don't really feel like I'm pulling my weight if I'm, say, a lvl 12 on a lvl 35 team because I don't have access to the same powers/enhancements everyone else on the team has.
Yeah, the mobs will con about the same but I still don't feel very useful and therefore don't really have much fun...
I can understand that feeling, but as long as you don't make a habit of it with every character that isn't the case. The SK system was made so friends can catch up to each other.
Your friends can even turn off their xp gain and sk you until you catch up and then you all can proceed on the path to 50 together as a group. I've done exactly that several times for people in the global channels I'm in.
When I'm sk'd I'm always in the thick of the fiercest fighting regardless of the consequences and no one has ever suggested I wasn't carrying my weight. -

Quote:Please correct me if I'm wrong but I read in another thread that they are going to be removing the level restrictions from hazard zones. If that is true then heroes can simply buy a jetpack from the blueside jetpack vendor the same way villains can buy a jetpack at level one from the redside jetpack vendor. As a 60 month vet you get access to actual travel powers at level 6 when the pools open. No OTHER pool powers that way, but the 4 travels.
And there are a lot of us, actually...
But yeah you can still get a reasonable ability to get around at level 5 or 6 doing mayhem/safeguards, and if you act appropriately polite and sensible about it you can just get on a supergroup with a teleporter setup.Travel is not an issue, really. -
Quote:Currently raiding is offline as the devs have turned off the pathing restrictions when I13 went live. The pathing restrictions prevented players from creating imassable obstacles that would hinder raids.Actually, I was thinking that the neighborhood-based mishes would scale to your level. I want to be able to pick where i want my hero to live, regardless of the map's general level.
As for the Base Building priority.... hmm. I see your point
In some ways I think apartments is more relevant because of the in-game mish possibilities, but then i've never been much into raiding (does that still happen?), so i am probably in the minority. But your post doesn't give me much hope for my idea being implemented :P too bad - I would love it!
s
However turning off the pathing has allowed basebuilders to create some truly amazing bases. -
Quote:Even tho I don't play that game I'm glad to hear they didn't snub some of their customers like that. That's probably because Codemasters handle LotrO for Europe. You cannot buy a Lifetime Membership from Turbine if you live in the EU, you've got to buy the Codemasters one.
Codemasters even have its own Lotro-website, www.lotro-europe.com.
And there's a Codemasters FAQ from 2008, when the Mines of Moria was released, which explains how to activate the Lifetime Membership. So yeah, us Europeans can get our hands on some Lifetime-sweetness.
But I don't know if that's an ongoing promotion, or just centered around those bigger releases.
Having seperate websites explains why I drew the wrong conclusions from what I read. -
Quote:I double checked their website and the post I read was from 2008 (below is an edited cut and paste as well as a link to the page I got it from for the full write up . . .I'm in Europe and I've got a lifetime sub. Don't know if they've changed the policy afterwards, but it seems insane to offer it solely on the other side of the pond.
(Then again, LotrO devs are very US-centric. In the beginning us Europeans used to get all patches and major updates 3-6 weeks after the US. "Localization" was given as the reason for this travesty. I think nowadays they're releasing everything simultaneously, if I'm not mistaken.)
"Only players located in the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec) who purchase a Pre-order for The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria (the Expansion), theexpansion to the online PC game known as The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar (the Original Game, and together with the Expansion, the Game) from authorized vendors are eligible for this Pre-order Program (each a Player).
The Pre-order Program includes the following:- Special pricing options - specifically, either a multi-month subscription plan or a Lifetime Membership plan for online access to the Game "
Seeing how old that info is it's very possible they changed it since it was posted. -
And then you'd see your mailbox filled with spam emails each with 1 inf, or a cheap salvage/ lvl 1 enh/cheap inspiration and you'll be back to weeding thru them to find the one you sent. Spammers can easily afford to throw away loot since they farm it hand over fist.
Again there has got to be a better way of doing it than using emails. -
Am I the only person that wants a Memphis_Bill action figure?
I think they would be so cool. It would come with Kung Fu grip, tons of accessories, visual sound effects, and when you push the button in his back it would recite one of his famous cut and pastes about vehicles, or how to search, etc.
And they'd be collectables, each one would speak a different cut and paste!
(I can see it now . . .
Hey Zek! I'll trade you a "How to search " for a "Raising the level cap".
No way Forbin. I only have two complete sets. One set to play with and one to leave in their boxes for my collection.) -
Happens to me all the time especially if I avoid street mobs on my way to missions or for some reason drop a mission or two. You have to be level 5 to get offered the next contact.
Happily at that level a little streetsweeping or even an AE mission will give you the boost you need to hit level 5.
If the OP would like to look at Paragonwiki here I've got the page that shows the contacts listed by the level you need to be to get them.

Quote:Just to be clear, I would be all over a lifetime sub but I just figure it isn't going to happen. Meanwhile I jump on each of their loyalty things. I think I have 4 free months after the most recent go around.
Didn't mean to imply you wouldn't.
I'm basing my opinions of how detrimental lifetime subs would be to the games revenues on two assumptions.
1. Hardcore vets (36+, 48+, 60+ months) like ourselves make up a significant portion if not the major percentage of the playerbase.
2. 90-100% of those vets would jump at the chance to get a lifetime sub. -
Quote:That works fine for inf but what happens to enhancements, inspirations, and salvage? It's much easier to go over the character limit on those items.Except we could have a button that was "Get All Influence" and you'd press that first and THEN delete all messages. Problem solved.
Remember in the suggested scenario the person doesn't bother to check his emails before deleting them. It's not hard to believe the person in question won't bother to check if he has room to store anything else, so what happens to those items?
He emails a complete set of LoTG to a character but forgets that it is currently carrying 8 enhancements. So he hits "Get All" then cleans out his email list, and discovers afterwards he only had room for 2 enhancements from the set.
There's got to be a better way to do this than emails. -

Quote:As a long time Vet of this game I have no problem with "maintaining" my loyalty by continuing to support this game with my money.
Basically you are suggesting you will be more "loyal" to this game as long as you don't have to support it anymore. That's kind of like saying you promise to be a better U.S. citizen as long people stop encouraging you to vote.
This. -
Quote:I believe LoTR offers a lifetime sub with each new expansion and only for a limited time. They also restrict lifetime subs to the US and Canada.Gave, past tense. I don't think they still do - but I might be wrong on that. Most lifetime sub offers are limited runs. Most lifetime offers are for games which don't appear to have the lifespan this one already has.
Right now, if they offered a 200$ lifetime for this game, I would take it. I'd have to swipe money from my mother's accounts, but I'd take it. However, I'm perfectly happy with the yearly subscription offer and the extra-month bits.
This game's worth my money.
I would also take advantage of a lifetime sub for this game but I have to ask myself how NCSoft is going to make up for the loss of revenue.
I have no doubt a great many of us are vets of several years and most if not all would jump at the chance to get a lifetime sub. So where's the money going to come from when the monthly sub fees dry up?
No more free issues every few months, and a shift to paid expansions every couple of years.
An even bigger shift to microtransactions.
Or worse, the game closes its doors. -
Quote:We don't really know if you can bring your inf with you when you cross over, do we? Has any dev confirmed that? If they did, that's as good as admitting the currencies (and markets) will be merged. It makes sense to me, but I could imagine them saying "when you cross over you lose all your inf." Which would royally suck, but I could see it happening.
If they did that I think it would tick off a huge portion of the playerbase, which would hurt the sales of GR and instigate rash of cancelled subs.
The smart way to do it would be to handle a crossover similar to a server transfer. You only take what's carried by the character with you. Everything else you lose. (I don't see them allowing co-op SG's because not everyone may buy GR) -
Quote:I think the market has already spoken. By that I mean most MMOs already have this type of mechanism. Even NCsoft's latest, Aion, has a means to transfer items between characters. I know the fact that other games have it doesn't make it inherently the right thing to do, but it clearly invalidates the argument that having it would ruin the game.
I have my fingers crossed about "Going Rogue". In my eyes allowing crossovers removes the last impediment that might prevent a global bank. They can't claim that the factions are seperate on an account if characters can cross back and forth and take their wealth with them. Heck merging the red and blue markets shouldn't even be an issue then. Heroes crossing over will be bringing a ton of cash with them.
A GB could even be a feature to encourage sales of GR. The people that buy it get access to a global bank. -
Quote:I agree. I was very happy to see it changed.Fixing that stupid rule was one of the best things they've done recently.
The point I was making tho was that they didn't cut any of us any slack when we lost things in the past (and if they were going to cut people slack it should have been over that rule), so if they did allow us to send stuff via "email" they certainly wouldn't start caring if we deleted it without reading it.
The emails we get don't automatically delete. We have to clean them out ourselves. So we would have no one to blame but ourselves if we carelessly discarded everything without looking at it.
Especially since the feature we are discussing is one where we would be sending ourselves the email. We would know there would be an influence transfer in the characters inbox so blindly deleting everything would be the stupidest thing to do. -
I loved that show.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FXSnoy71Q4
But as you can see Tempus is right about the quote. -
Quote:I can only think of one reason why not right now that has not bemm mentioned.
E-mail Spam.
Do you know how many E-mail I get after one day of not logging in. Whenever I log in, I just press delete 20-50 times just to clean out the E-mail box from RMT (Real Money Traders). I can imagine the following scenario :
1) Log into character and and see lots of SPAM on Inbox.
2) Not bother reading, I delete all the E-mail. 1 of them was an influence transfer.
If one was an influence E-mail, I would have lost millions of influence by not reading the E-mail. Then we would gripe more for losing influence whether it came from myself or even a friend. Even if there is a feature many of us would like to have, there would always be flaws.
1. If you are worried about having a lot of spam in a characters inbox, you could easily log onto the character you want to send influence to, and clear out the inbox before sending email to it.
2. You should be able to recognize your own character name since that is what appears in the "From:" field.
3. If you can't recognize the names of your own characters, you can choose a unique subject title for your emails so you don't accidentally delete it.
The devs/GM's don't compensate people for making stupid mistakes. They don't do anything for people that screw up at the market and bid more than they intended on something.
And back when the 60 day rule deleted anything left in the market unattended for sixty days they didn't reimburse people when they came here crying that they didn't know the rules. -
Quote:ROFL!Accually, Forbin, I was trying to send up a white flag so to speak in the form of a PM. But it would seem that as the Forums "internet tough guy" you want to be confrontational. Good for you...
...one wonders if you have that sort of brass in real life... I quite doubt it.
W/E
Had you read my pm you would have said something else I'm sure, but after this my repect for you has gone the way of the dodo. I don't feel that you deserve the respect of me retyping it here so, have a good one...
You deliberately misinterpret my posts, throw out insults with a holier than thou attitude, and accuse me of being confrontational, but expect me to believe that at the same time in private you were offering an olive branch.
I believe there's a term for people that say one thing in public and another in private. Two-faced I believe. -
Quote:I'm not sure if I'm reading this the same way as it was intended, but to me it's all a matter of how you ask. I like helping people when I can, but I despise other people expecting such help for granted. "Ya hafsta team with me/give me money/help me kill stuff/give me exposition!" I've seen a lot of people who demand things like this, though admittedly never in such straight text.
And, really, what has happened to the game if a level 37 player counts as new? And why hit up a character that much lower level? Why not hit up one of the 50s in Atlas Park, or just pick someone off Team Search? Why speak in Local and not tells? If I'd been just a second faster on my feet, I'd never have even seen his "wait."
I don't know, maybe I'm too badly adapted to Internet communication, but lacking complete sentences, any kind of context and any kind of obvious reasoning, how am I suppose to sympathise with these people? I mean, here I am sitting down and pondering this over and over, and I still can't quite comprehend it. How was I suppose to parse that in real time? Maybe I'm just slow, I don't know.
The thing that killed my ingame generosity was this clown I foolishly gave inf to, and he then proceeded to put me on his friends list and then proceeded to continually beg me for more with tells and emails everytime I was online until I threw his mooching buttocks on ignore.
Now when I get the urge to do a random act of kindness I'll go to certain locations where I'm confident the person is preoccupied (at the trainer, the tailor, the respec guy) then I'll drop an expensive enhancement / salvage / recipe on them and immediately leave the area.
Another thing I like to do because it's anonymous is go the the consignment house and find an item that's selling dirt cheap and make a huge bid on it. -
Quote:Incidently Forbin, The second quote is not mine... I still play, they haven't chased me away from anything.
*sigh*
Yet another example of your failing to comprehend what was posted. At no point in my response did I imply that the second quote was something you posted. In fact it clearly shows I was quoting the OP in the preceding statement.
There are no rules on the forums that states when quoting someone you cannot provide a clarifying statement to explain what you are quoting and why.Quote:At no point in this thread have I voiced my opinion on global banks. Perfect_Pains question did not require my opinion. She asked for an explanation as to why the feature hasn't been added yet.
Quote:Why can't we send ourselves money yet??? . . .Right now, the game has chased me away. It is not convient. This is a drag. Why hasn't our mail system been adjusted to do this yet?
Your attempt to deliberately misinterpret the quote has failed miserably.
Oh and by the way, I have no interest in reading any PM's you send me. I will continue to delete them unread. If you can't say it in an open forum you're wasting your time.

Quote:Sorry if this sounds callous but many of us are in the same boat as you are. We have a costume slot we don't dare edit because we'll lose that now unique costume because things have been "fixed".
You just have to do the same thing as the rest of us have for the past 5 years . . . suck it up and deal (especially since yours was a glitch that was never intended to be allowed). You have 4 other costume slots to play with on that character.
(And don't get me wrong, I want the look you have on a couple of my characters.) -
