Quote:Don't worry about getting this deleted. Sooner or later it will drop from the front page. You may get some latecomers dropping in with comments but feel free to ignore any negative ones. You know where to post now so any criticism now isn't relevant. See you in the Suggestion forum.I feel like a noob....wait I am, no one on CoH knows how I can delete this
. So if you know how to (once again I'm still a noob) please post a reply on how to, Thank you!

Since directions have been offered to the OP so he can make his suggestion in the proper section of the forums I'd like to offer some further assistance before he moves it there.
Here's an thread that explains how to use the Search feature.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=123763
Using the Search feature can help you find out if the idea you have has been suggested and discussed before, and if so you can see if people have already said things that can help you improve the idea you want to suggest. -

Quote:Why would you test it with a supergroup you cared about? This is what taking that SG-less toon you haven't played in 37 weeks, create him a random-named SG, disband the SG, attempt to create the SG again.
Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant that I'm paranoid that even if I tested it and it worked with a test name that when I went to do it with the name I want to switch factions with I'd still lose it.
That happened to me with a character name when CoV was released. I deleted a hero to make him a villain and when I went to claim the name I freed up it was grabbed by another player. The search feature confirmed someone really grabbed it. -
Quote:I considered that but I'm not willing to test it again. I'm afraid even if it does work that when I do disband the one I'd like to get rid of that I'll still lose the name when I try to remake it. It's a cross faction thing on the same server.Possibly caught in a name rule change or something? I know they switched up the character names rules on me once. I once had a character that was called LX, but ended up deleting him. Recreated him a couple of years later only to find that two letter names were no longer allowed, so I had to name him LX II (which I actually worked into his background). I dunno, just spitballing.
-
To be honest I'm a bit skeptical on that. I know I've seen other people say that was how it works, but the one time I tried to test it a few years ago the name was not available after I disbanded the original SG. I even tried waiting and checked back every so often for 2 days and I couldn't get it again.

And that's assuming there's any members still in the SG. If the players have all quit the SG or been kicked it's gone forever.

Warden was making a joke. It was referencing the fact that in England vehicular travel is reversed. They drive on the left side of the road while Americans drive on the right side. The steering wheels are even on opposite sides of the cars.
Sense of humor, get one. -

Quote:That's a useful bind but I'd like to point out that brand new players probably aren't going to know how to make a bind like that, or even that they can make a bind that does that.Welcome to the City.
Remember when you get your full version UPGRADE your trial account and not just make a new one. That way you keep the names and characters you already made.
They need a badge under the name that saids "Trial Account" as well. That way we can see right away it's a new player.
You might want to use /bind enter "afk Trial Account can't reply to tells$$startchat"
That bind will make a message appear over your head when ever you type or just press Enter. It will also send the message to who ever tells you when you are typing.
So while it is very helpful I still think the best idea would be for the devs to create an automatic response to incoming tells. -
Quote:Yeah it's a good idea.Back on topic {and in case nobody mentioned already}, I'd suggest an auto-reply along the lines of {this character is using a trial account and cannot reply to private messages. Thank you for understanding.}

Quote:I'd also like to see a nice red warning in the chat box that warns the sender of a Tell that the person they are messaging is on a trial account and can't respond. -

Welcome back to the game. Since you mentioned trial accounts I'm gonna post the restrictions just in case you're not aware of all of them.
Restrictions
Trial Accounts cannot email other players
Trial Accounts may not level past 14
Trial Accounts can only have 50k influence
Trial Accounts may not join global channels
Trial Accounts can only speak in
/local
/hc (the Help channel)
/team
Trial Accounts cannot invite players to team
Trial Accounts may join teams, but not invite other players
Trial Accounts may not join SuperGroups.
Trial Accounts may not create Mission Architect arcs. They can not interface with the Architect Entertainment Stations. However, they can be invited onto a team that is running MA missions.
If you decide to upgrade to a full account I'd recommend checking into the global channels that are run by players on your server of choice. One nice thing about these channels is that it doesn't matter what server you are on at the time you can still talk to everyone who is a member of that channel. You can also be a member of several different channels at the same time.
And just to give a shameless plug, if you decide to play on Virtue, you should check and see if you can get invited to the Cape Radio global channel. They have a lot of members as well as their own web based radio station.
http://www.thecaperadio.com/
They hold their own events/parties and are generally a great bunch of guys and gals. -
Quote:Sorry to disagree with you but you didn't check the prices of all the editions being sold at Amazon. Also to the people who like to say "Go buy the game it's 5 bucks at Amazon.com" they should read the fine print as it's actually $11. Still a good buy compared to $19.99 but it's not "Just 5 bucks" lol.
City of Heroes original
$1.44 + $3.99 S&H Total $5.43 - New in original shrink wrap.
$4.95 +$3.99 S&H Total $8.94 - New in factory sealed box.
City of Villains
$.99 + $3.99 S&H Total $4.98 - Three sellers all advertise never used, never opened, and factory originals
$1.99 +$3.99 S&H total $5.98 - Factory seals intact.
Four more copies from $2.89 to $2.99 with S&H totaling $6.98 - all advertised as new with factory seals.
Another nine copies with S&H total no more than $8.99 - all never opened with factory seals
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new
They currently have copies of
http://www.amazon.com/s/qid=12767837...0heroes&page=1
Good vs Evil
Architect Edition
Original CoH
Original CoV
CoV Collector's Edition
CoH Collector's Edition
The old CoH/CoV Bundle
On Page two they have 2 new copies of the UK version of the CoH/CoV combined Edition
Page three has another 6 new copies of the original CoV
And 9 new copies of CoH starting at 1 cent to $3.25 with S&H $4.00 to $7.28
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...&condition=new
So if you took the time to look at everything that is available you would have found several copies for sale under $5 bucks. -
Quote:Other games have similar restrictions. Here's WoW's trial restrictions.Except Trial versions can't send broadcast, either, last time I checked..?
Basically, Trial versions are extremely, almost chokingly gutted on the communications front. I'm not even sure they are allowed team chat...or was that not allowed to invite people?
While I realise all the safeguards in place to stop RMT and spammers...there is a line to walk between keeping them out and actaully scaring off potential paying players... And Im not sure where it stands right now.
The following restrictions are placed on all Classic Trial Accounts:
A level cap of 20.
A maximum of 10 gold.
Trade skills are capped at 100 ranks.
Inability to trade via the auction house, mailbox, or player-to-player.
In-Game public chat channels will be unavailable. (Players will still be able to communicate using say, party, or whispers).
Characters will be unable to create or join existing guilds.
Accounts will no longer be able to whisper other players unless they have been added to those playersÂ’ friends lists or have received a whisper from them first.
Characters will not be able to invite players into a party.
Characters will not be able to join parties with other players above level 20.
Voice Chat is disabled on trial accounts.
Realms with login queues will give priority to customers with retail accounts.
Will not be eligible for any Character Transfer service.
LOTR restrictions
Trial accounts cannot access the mail box or the auction house, trade, or send tells to players that do not have the trial user on their friend list.
Eve
Trial account characters can not:
Post on the forums
Use the Contracts system
Use any ingame trade channel
Transfer money to other players
Rename cargo containers in space
Transfer corporation money to other players
Trial account characters can only:
Post a new eve-mail every minute, that is one mail per minute
Send roughly 3 messages in a row through ingame channels, a 7 second delay is then put on the user's next message
Guild Wars
Chat restricted to team, guild, and alliance chat, plus whispers.
No access to shared storage, player trading, dropping items or gold, or picking up things dropped by other players.
Not allowed to create PvP-Only characters or travel to the Battle Isles.
If this access key is added to an existing account, it will provide trial access only to those campaigns that have not had a previous trial.
The access key is for a maximum of 10 hours of game play over a 14-day period from the time the key is activated. -
Quote:I've made several suggestions that Trial Accounts be given a temporary title that says Trial Account in a bright color over the characters head. That way players can tell at a glance who can respond to tells.Temp accounts can Team chat and Local chat.
They should really put some sort of indicator on temp accounts so that the general player-base knows that they are temps at a glance, and can more easily render help.
I'd also like to see a nice red warning in the chat box that warns the sender of a Tell that the person they are messaging is on a trial account and can't respond.
If the system can send a similar message to someone who is being ignored they can do it for trials. -
Quote:After experiencing the forums of other games I think we have been blessed with the greatest group of people out there. Yes we have our share of jerks. Heck I can be one of them from time to time.I just wanted to thank every one who has been so helpful! Sometimes on forums for games you find some rather impolite people. I am sure they exist but I am happy I found the helpful ones first! =D
I can't wait for my game to arrive.. the only downfall of buying it for cheaper... the wait of continuing to suffer (lol) on a trial >_<
Another thing to be aware of. If you become attached to the characters on your trial account and want to keep them make sure you choose to upgrade that account when you apply the new game code.
You'd be surprised how often people mistakenly start a separate account, and I don't think Customer Service can merge the two accounts. -
Oh and I just remembered the explanation people use when they advise people to buy a cheap copy of the game.
It goes like this. If someone buys the game for $5 or $10 bucks they get that first 30 days for free. What else can you buy that gives you that kind of bargain. Movies cost $15 - $20 and only last about 2 hours.
Now I'm not saying that's a valid argument. I live on disability and there have been months when I had to sell blood plasma to make ends meet and keep my account active. So I know what it's like to be flat broke. Broke and I are well acquainted. Broke comes over to visit me all the time.

Quote:Ya I was looking at the different reward things on this wiki I found. I really like the magic one but I think the $5 version of the game is more in my price range then the $20 version of it.. atleast for now hehe. I would really like that magic outfit set though so perhaps I would be able to get it one day :3
When buying these games from Amazon just take the precaution to only get the ones that say factory sealed. Don't fall for the used ones or if they say they checked the game and it works. Those are the ones where they used the game code and that copy of the game is actually worthless.
Other than that you can get some great bargains for the various editions. Just check from time to time as they become available sporadically. And even $10 bucks is a bargain.
Oh and please be aware that you can only have one (1) of each edition applied to your account. You can't use the codes for two Good vs Evil on one account. -
Quote:Oh wow ! Thank you for your "In B4" comment!
I looked on Gamestop and saw you could pre-order the "going rogue" thing for $40 and thought that was it god I feel like a noob!
You don't know how happy your post just made me to find a place that has it for 5 bucks! I am so gonna go buy it =D
But even so on a more serious note. People shouldn't have to feel like they have to go buy it just to be able to start forging friendships during their trial account.
Because in a game like this making a few friends could be the dealbreaker for some for buying a game and not buying it ....because gee it is an online game after all so for some meeting people is important.
You wouldn't believe the number of times I've seen someone tell a person on a trial account that they should just pick up the game from Big Lots for $5 or $10 bucks, or the Amazon comment I jokingly referred too above.
That being said there are some advantages to buying cheap copies of previous editions that are on sale. And I'm not just referring to the free 30 days you get with each one.
Good Vs Evil comes with three exclusive in-game items: jump pack prestige power; "Pocket D" VIP card teleport power; hero and villain costume pieces.
Mac Edition comes with a Mission Teleporter Power, and the Valkyrie themed costume set (available to both Heroes and Villains from level one)
Architect Edition allows you to choose either the Super Booster I: Cyborg pack or the Super Booster II: Magic pack for free -
Quote:I like the logic you used to make your decision, but when I think Natural I ask myself if what he is and can do is natural for his species. If he is the only one of his kind I'd consider him a mutation or something other than natural.I give two thumbs up for the back story. =D
I'd personally make him Natural. The way you explain it, I can eliminate the other origins.
He doesn't have any special mutation, regardless of the child's powers, so Mutation is out.
He isn't created by science, so that's out too.
He isn't created by tech, nor is he being held in the world by it. So that's gone.
He doesn't seem to have any magical abilities, so magic is gone too.
Since he is just himself, with no special alterations, being created by a mutant wouldn't have anything to do with him. His powers are natural to him, so I would classify him as Natural.
Of course, that's just me. One of the things I love about this game is the flexibility of the character creation system. It's a good thing, in my opinion, that the origins don't really give any special perks. It lets you create whoever or whatever you want with no limitations on your creativity.
Out of curiosity, what Archetype and build is he? Sounds like an interesting character.

I used Amazon to buy some for a friend for Christmas.
