If you are no longer in it, then no. You can't become leader of a SG you're not a part of. Eventually, when someone reactivates and logs in, they'll become the new SG leader. Otherwise it will just sit there until that happens.

And that's assuming there's any members still in the SG. If the players have all quit the SG or been kicked it's gone forever.

But in that case, the name should be released and the SG could be rebuilt from the beginning, right?

One would think. But then again, it could sit there forever with just one member that never logs in any more.

I think. I know I joined one SG just after starting the game (before I knew what I was doing) and found much much later that I was the only one left in that SG, not having logged in that character for almost a year.

Once the last member quits, the sg name is freed up to be used for a new group. I checked it after my base glitched up a while back and I opened a new one for testing.

To be honest I'm a bit skeptical on that. I know I've seen other people say that was how it works, but the one time I tried to test it a few years ago the name was not available after I disbanded the original SG. I even tried waiting and checked back every so often for 2 days and I couldn't get it again.

Possibly caught in a name rule change or something? I know they switched up the character names rules on me once. I once had a character that was called LX, but ended up deleting him. Recreated him a couple of years later only to find that two letter names were no longer allowed, so I had to name him LX II (which I actually worked into his background). I dunno, just spitballing.

I considered that but I'm not willing to test it again. I'm afraid even if it does work that when I do disband the one I'd like to get rid of that I'll still lose the name when I try to remake it. It's a cross faction thing on the same server.

Why would you test it with a supergroup you cared about? This is what taking that SG-less toon you haven't played in 37 weeks, create him a random-named SG, disband the SG, attempt to create the SG again.

EDIT: Just tested it myself. Wasn't even ten seconds between disbanding and recreating. So unless your name is on some "do not recreate" list, you're OK. To make sure, you could /petition and ask.

EDIT2: Just tested it a second time, thinking maybe creating a base might lock you out. Recreated SuperGroup WooWoo a third time. Opted into a base plot, went in and placed a few items (only 20k prestige so can't do anything substantial). Still allowed me to disband and reapply as SuperGroup WooWoo, for the fourth time in less than ten minutes.

EDIT #a lot: BTW, SuperGroup WooWoo's base is hot, and I'm not saying that just cos there's a bunch of bonfires in there. >.> <.<

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant that I'm paranoid that even if I tested it and it worked with a test name that when I went to do it with the name I want to switch factions with I'd still lose it.

That happened to me with a character name when CoV was released. I deleted a hero to make him a villain and when I went to claim the name I freed up it was grabbed by another player. The search feature confirmed someone really grabbed it.

Have a friend's character stay in the original group just long enough for you to get to the registrar. They leave the group and moments later you start it again on the other side. A disposable level one will do nicely for this purpose.

I can do that myself since I have two accounts. You just don't really comprehend the vast depth of my bad luck. If there's the tiniest fraction of a picosecond between the disbanding and recreation of the new SG then someone else will get it.

Ahh you poor afflicted soul. I, too, suffer from Charlie Brown's Syndrome.
