    Bank

I'd still like to see a SuperGroup Bank, that can be managed by maybe a few individuals within the SG
We've already pointed out the glaring flaws with the idea of an SG bank.

An SG that has to bribe people to join is a warning sign of a poorly run SG.

    converting to prestige
People rarely convert inf to prestige. No one is willing to throw away 1,000,000 inf for a lousy 2,000 prestige, unless someone like Fulmens (bless his heart) is willing to bribe them to do it.

    Quote:
just giving to new characters to help them get started out enhancing
People that voice this argument make me wonder if they have ever actually played the game since I9 went live. Even casual players like myself make inf hand over fist in this game. Players can sell the 2 inspirations they get from the tutorial for 100k and that will provide them with enough inf to outfit their character with any enhancements they need in the beginning. Characters really start raking in the cash by selling their drops starting at level 5 and by level 10, they can easily have 1 million inf. As the character enters the teens he can start doing TF's for merits and choosing specific rewards that can be sold on the market for millions. They also have the option (from level 1) turning in AE tickets for rewards they can sell on the market.

Also at any time players can turn off their exp and just earn inf for as long as they want.

We also have the Email feature which allows players to send inf to their other characters, and when "Going Rogue" goes live we'll be able to send inf, recipes, and salvage to any character regardless of faction. Players will no longer be able to complain that their Villains can't afford to buy things.

    Quote:
the rampant ridiculous market prices for the too-rare drops is proof that the system is already broken.
That's working as intended. It's called Supply and Demand. When the demand for a product exceeds the available supply the prices go up. They teach this in high school.

    Quote:
Let us store rare recipes for the members of our SG that can use them, instead of forcing a "sell it for 300 million"
This feature already exists in the game. It's called the Enhancement Storage Table.

All you have to do is craft the recipe and place the resulting enhancement in storage for another member of the SG to use. No one is being forced to sell anything if they don't want to do it.

Also by crafting the recipes you will be helping the economy by removing influence from the market. Crafting is an inf sink.

only serves to encourage normally honest players to consider using gold farmers
Sorry Swellguy is right. A person that chooses to do something they know is breaking the rules isn't honest to begin with. There isn't any moral dilemma in this situation. It's a game. There's nothing on the market that they can't play the game without.

The market is optional. No one has to use it.
Invention Origin enhancements are optional. No one needs them to play the game.

    Second build use

I use my second build on my concept characters. On their main build I may choose or not choose certain powers because of the concept. I use the second build for team builds to keep the build nazi's silent.
  3. Same as every other time, when closed beta is over. Then whoever participated can say whatever they want.

I'm sorry but I've held that opinion since the first character I made. The only thing that kept me playing the villains I had was the SG/VG I was in. When they fell apart I returned to heroside until VEATS came out. I hoped they would bring new content and revive my interest in the faction. Boy was I disappointed.

edit: I speak in absolutes when absolutely certain. I can say with absolution that the sun will rise tomorrow, just as I can say that there will be very few existing players that purchase GR rolling new toons outside of Praetoria. That means any new player that decides to take that path will be very lonely.
I'll be one of those few. Heroes I'll continue to make in Paragon. Villains however will be made in Praetoria, and if GR lives up to only half my hopes I'll be making more villains. I never really enjoyed the content redside.

Edit: Actually I'm going to be more interested in doing the side-switching first when GR goes live than starting new characters. I'm gonna be moving almost a dozen characters over to blueside.

The box they are picking up is called Going Rogue, not "Praetoria".

I see two possible ways a new character will choose their starting world.

You either select the world you want to start in: Rogue Isle, Paragon City, or Praetoria. And then it takes you to character creation where the available ones are open to pick from.
    or
You build your new character and when you hit create after naming it is prompts you as to which world you'd like to start in. Based on whether you have selected a scrapper for instance or a brute it will prompt you to start in Paragon/Praetoria, or Rogue Isles/Praetoria.
I agree that the name could cause confusion to people new to the game. We'll have to wait and see how they decided to handle character creation and faction selection. If I had to guess I'd think it would be similar to what we currently have where the first thing we choose is a faction. However as far as I know they may intend to change things.

No you weren't. You made it crystal clear to everyone that you were only looking for people to agree with you. You categorically dismissed and insulted everyone who disagrees with your conclusions by saying this.

Some people make statements like "But we like our servers less populated" which is usually followed by paraphrasing a 15 year old spamming in a popular zone. I'm sorry, but I don't believe that you actually like being one of the only 14 heroes/villians on your server at that time.

Furthermore trying to claim that you wanted to have "an appropriate discussion with a great community" is a load of crap. To have a discussion with the community you have to participate in it. You made one initial post on 7/9/2010 and then abandoned the thread for 12 days.

When you do finally decide to grace the thread with your presence it's not to "discuss" your initial post but to again insult everyone by claiming

This was nothing more than a troll thread looking to start a flame war and since it hasn't devolved into what you were hoping for you are now trying to stir up negative feelings again by claiming people sent you mean PM's in hopes that it will start something.

If you received nasty PM's or Rep comments petition them. We don't care what was said to you in private. That's an issue to be settled by the Mods and doesn't belong in the forums.
  8. This thread reminded me of another thread last year where the OP was concerned that the ability to change a characters sex at the tailor was giving children the wrong idea about crossdressing.

I've spent 15 minutes trying to find it but I think it got deleted.

Anyway, I'm all for more choices!

But back to the pic, I was just on to pay rent on my base and it was very quiet, and having posted in this thread it made me curious what I'd find if I searched. I wasn't expecting what I found and couldn't resist a screenshot to post here for S&G's.
  10. I was just on Freedom and I saw this when I did a quick search of Atlas Park.

Freedom's Dead! The devs should shut it down so players can focus on enjoying more populated servers.

because the few people are taking a break, its not that healthy. A reasonable person might even call it dead.
Just because most of the players on a server can't be bothered to waste their time on a pointless raid that has a reward which in their opinion is of little or no value doesn't mean that a server is dead.

Granted maybe you run in to people that don't know how to drive and it is necessary. Is good that you have that information to share.

I don't personally see answering a simple question with a simple answer as "blowing someone off". I just see it as mirroring their personality style, which most people prefer. Of course if they want more information they are free to ask and it will be answered. I've just never seen anyone continue seeking that information in the specific scenario that they are trying to avoid a single person that is sending them "rude tells".

The great thing about life is that we all have different experiences. I can accept that your experiences have led you to believe that non-forum goers have the same understanding of the /hide mechanic as forum goers. I don't have to agree with it, but I can accept that you believe it.

I wasn't necessarily trying to get you to change that belief, but was more trying to understand the logical pathway you were taking to reach that conclusion.
When I'm playing I try to be as helpful as I can to other players. No one likes being given a hard time when they are trying to relax and have fun. Here on the forums we can disagree and bicker back and forth, but I keep that out of the game if I can.

I usually start off by saying that there's several options they can choose from. I tell them how to ignore first and add if they feel it's necessary they can follow up with a petition. I then tell them there's a few other things they can do if they're interested. Most of the time they're receptive and I explain the other things I listed.

A lot of times these talks end up with us teaming and doing a few missions while answering questions. I even get added to their friends lists. Thank God we have the Notes feature now because I used to have a hell of a time remembering them. Now I can give them some good stars and line or two to remind me where we met.

Edit: Thinking back I apologize for using the term "blown off". I was thinking that the brevity of a response gives the impression that it's the only option they have and they may not ask if there's anything else.

    Old salvage?

I think that Shark or Kheldarn is right about what actually happened. A sale of that magnitude when the other sales aren't even a fraction as high is obviously an accident. A server transfer would be the next possibility. No chance in hell it was an intentional bid on something they wanted..
  14. Then our experiences are different. When I run into these situations I give the new players as much information as possible. One question leads to another when the new player realizes he found someone willing to stop and explain things, rather than get blown off with the shortest reply possible.

    No sinks.
It's called rent and it's set exactly where it should be.

    Quote:
A mid-size SG can earn more prestige than they'll ever be able to spend way too fast.
And that's a good thing. Players are no longer under the unreasonable pressure to keep earning prestige in order to keep their bases functioning. A new SG can easily earn what it needs without pressure and the older established SG's can sit back and coast. If players are members of an SG that has it's membership decrease, the remaining members can still afford to keep the base running. Constantly having to farm prestige to pay unreasonable rent is a pain in the ***, and when the game stops being fun people find other games to play.

The only time an SG may feel they "need" to knuckle under and earn more prestige is when they decide they want to buy something expensive like a Dimensional Vortex as a power source.

The only thing the devs need to get rid of now is that stupid feature that lists SG's by the amount of prestige earned. That thing is the last thing people use as an excuse to farm prestige.

Why do you keep assuming people are skipping over the other stuff and only going to /hide. We explain all their options to them when asked.

    1. We explain how to petition people harrassing them
    2. We explain how to use /ignore and /gignore
    3. We explain how to use ignore spammer and what it does
    4. We explain how to set their flags
    5. We explain how to turn on their chat logs
    6. We explain how to use Notes and the Star rating feature
    7. And we explain how they can use /hide to avoid some of the irritating people.

Besides the /hide feature stops many of the problems before they have a chance to start or escalate to the point where someone gets ignored and/or petitioned.

Exactly. The /hide feature has several options available that allows us to customize it to fit our needs.

    Hide Options
    1. Hide and block all Invite Options
    2. Hide from Tells (Private Messages)
    3. Hide from Global Chat Channels
    4. Hide from Global Friends
    5. Hide from Server Friends
    6. Hide from Supergroup
    7. Hide from Searches

For example option 2 will put a muzzle on an annoying pest long enough to discourage him without having to clutter up ones ignore lists and it will still allow one to be seen on searches.

Option 1 will stop annoying blind invites leaving one free to turn it off when one decides to accept a politely worded tell looking for a teammate.

Option 1 and 7 are perfect for the soloist seeking peace and quiet.

That said, I'm not dismissing that some people can and do ask about how to hide. People eventually ask about everything. I've never actually seen anyone ask about it in almost 5 years of playing and answering BC questions and I've seen a lot of weird questions asked. That of course is not indicative of people not asking about it, but rather just that I haven't seen anyone ask about the function.

It's not that they come out and ask how to /hide, I believe they find out about it when asking what options that can help them resolve what they find to be annoying.

For example when someone asks me about dealing with someone who keeps spamming tells asking for invites, I explain about the /ignores, petitions, notes/stars, flag settings, and then I also explain that they can use /hide and it's various choices as a preventative measure to cut down on the spam because people using the search tool won't find them. Only people passing them in a zone will see them.

I always include an explanation of /hide when I'm answering those types of questions.

Why do dismiss the notion that no problem exists? All you have to do is go up to player questions and read the "Rude Tells" thread to see that there are quite a few people out there that behave in a manner that encourages players to seek out information on being able to /hide from them.

Analogy, possibly a bad one: I wouldn't ask what those guys were doing behind my house if I didn't first know that there were guys behind my house.

But seriously? I have no idea what the numbers really are and I'm just making idle speculation. Feel free to ignore it.
I think forumgoers are more likely to voluntarily share that knowledge with the new players they meet in pugs, or various channels. I know I've explained how to use /hide and to set flags to not accepting invites when someone asked about soloing or if they needed teams to do everything.
  21. Yes.

But I'd like to add that even being hidden I still get a lot of invites, but they are from people in the same zone that see me at contacts or travelling between missions.

I prefer the way George Carlin explained it.

Some people don't like you to mention certain things. Some people don't want you to say this. Some people don't want you to say that. Some people think if you mention some things they might happen...some people are really ----ing stupid!

Did you ever notice that? How many really stupid people you run into during the day? --damn there's a lot of stupid ----ards walking around. Carry a little pad and pencil with you. You'll wind up with thirty or forty names by the end of the day.

Look at it this way: Think of how stupid the average person is and then realize that half of them are stupider than that.

Maybe I misread that. If so then, then I apologize. But I'm not going to apologize for my opinion that they aren't doing nearly enough to market this game. Especially when it is clear that they aren't even doing as much as games that are both more and less successful then they are. It kind of bewilders me.

I apologize for giving you the impression you got from my posts. You sort off got caught in the line of fire. The position I've been arguing wasn't about the content of the advertisement, but about whether or not they were advertising at all.

As soon as we brought up the current promotion the counter reply wasn't that it wasn't enough advertising, it was dismissed outright and proclaimed not to be advertising at all. That's where I got stubborn.

Currently they are doing the Gamestop/Razer thing. Last year they did the webisodes with Rooster Teeth.

Captain Dynamic - Touch my Awesome button.

(personally I wished they did something more along the lines of Red vs Blue. A funny story about a hero and villain inside the CoH world that we could follow each week.)

Before that the only thing I can remember is the CoV promotions.

They haven't ignored advertising altogether, they just haven't been consistent about continually doing it, and that's a problem.
