This does put what happened to Paragon Studios, a sudden unexpected closure, in some perspective.

Funny how disgruntled employees all say the same things about employers they don't like. I've said the exact same things about every job I hated.

No they didn't. Stephen Nichols the lead programmer and producer announced back in September 2009 that they game would close January 1, 2010. At the time he made the announcement their dev team was down to 3 employees. The staff having been laid off over the previous year and a half. The players knew things were bad long before the announcement.

And no there aren't any parallels between the two other than both games were cancelled by NCSoft.

NCSoft gave Dungeon Runners VIP's a 30 day game time serial code and digital copies of City of Heroes Architect Edition and Guild Wars Prophecies.

They gave refunds to the VIP's with multiple month subscriptions.

And they didn't fire the remaining devs on the spot but allowed them to go out with a bang.

"Wait, there's even more good news! While we may be going out, we're going out in style, with a few changes to the game for the coming "End Time". Mythic loot will drop much more frequently. We're significantly reducing the cost of expensive King's Coin vendors. We're also quintupling the rate of XP gain to help you finish the game before year's end! Finally, we're adding a huge nuke to Townston that will blow up on New Year's and take the game down with it. There's more, but what fun is there in spilling all the beans?"

Obsessively curious, probably.
Yeah but would the Daleks believe it? Could they accept the possibility that their collective memory could be hacked and all memory of their most hated and feared foe erased. Or are they so arrogant that they'd dismiss the stories as myths and fairy tales made up by their victims to calm their fears of being exterminated by the Daleks in their genocidal war against all other lifeforms.

Looking forward to seeing how it's done. I must admit for a brief moment imagining what it would be like if the Doctor had a Dalek companion.

If all your characters were deleted, your veteran status, everything (even forum posts), and you had to start from scratch, would you still continue to play this game, or would it be too much of a setback?
As of Sept 1, 2012 I've realized that being able to play this game is far more important to me than any character, or any perks I've acquired.

If I had to guess I'd say because

    1. The Daleks enjoy killing things in person.

    2. The Daleks are the quintessential fanatics on racial/genetic purity and only resort to assimilating genetic material from lesser lifeforms when neccesity demands it and at first opportunity purge the contaminated lesser Daleks.
  9. Any other game I'd say 1-5 bucks, but for City I'd pay up to double and do whatever the hell I had to to scrape the extra cash together.

If they kept the hybrid business model and raise the subs I expect a lot more for my VIP status for double the sub fee.

Edit: But I hope they wouldn't have to raise the sub.

Do not drop any money into it when it comes out. Let it tank. That, above all else, will send NcSoft a very loud message.

What exactly? That they should tank another small subsidiary company similar to Paragon Studios/CoH and put more innocent and hard working employees that love their own particular game in the unemployment lines.

I think a better message would be for Paragon Studios to (hopefully) get the rights to keep CoH running after NCSoft gave up on us to play their accounting shennanigans
  11. Not a fan of the Dalek-bots myself because of the appearance as well as the un-Dalek-like behavior, but then Oswin made the comment about how the Daleks grew stronger out of fear of the Doctor, and I realized that same fear could just as easily be the motivation behind the creation of the Dalek-bots and their un-Dalek-like behavior.

If, insha'Allah, Paragon Studios and COH comes out of this intact, they have Black Pebble there (especially in light of his announcement that he is even more of a demorecord fanatic than I am, which is REALLY saying something).

And Zwill's post of caution not withstanding about Paragon's situation, I will hope and pray for the best.

Sorry D_R, this was merely my way of voicing my appreciation for all the time and effort you put into your amazing videos for this game. When I think of my favorite things about the CoH community, your videos are always one of the first things that comes to mind.

    Dear Paragon Studios,

If you are blessed with success and manage to save CoH, please hire this woman to make her awesome videos for you.

  14. Woohoo!

    Err I mean,

Oh this is very interesting news please keep me informed.

    Squeeeee!!!
  15. I have nothing against the CO community, and I appreciate their response, but I just don't like the game itself very much.

Glad to hear it. I hope others get at least a smile out of it as well. I may be a PITA in many respects but a little laughter is good for everyone right now.

  17. My sig has my current favorite gif at the moment.

Edit: The sig I was referring to has been changed after receiving a polite request.

Well then, get off your collective a$$es, buy the CoH IP and keep this game going damnit!

  19. 1. You don't need an email to play the game. The login states my email isn't valid but I have no problems playing. Currently level 31 Ranger/Hunter.

    2. Of course it's a copy. It's the SEQUEL to GW. Same world, same races, so naturally they kept everything similar for continuities sake, and even allowed the accomplishments from the first game to be credited towards things in the second game. That's how you successfully retain customers from the first game.

Copying something fails when you take a vibrant and fun IP and turn it into a bad clone of a completely different IP. See SWTOR aka the WoW clone.

    3. No community will ever be as close as CoH's has been, unless it's members are made up of us.
  20. Having prepurchased GW2 at the beginning of August and also having played SWTOR, I believe SWTOR would have been a far more enjoyable game if it resembled GW2 instead of WoW.

Kindel infamously erased copies of 1984 for example.

I am aware that ncsoft only licensed the game to me. Take issue with them pulling the plug and making the game I bought invalid . I owned it.
Unlike Kindle NCSoft isn't "erasing" the installation program you bought off of your computer. They are merely shutting down the part that's on their end. You can keep the software you bought installed on your computer for as long as you want.

You also knew going into this that what you were buying couldn't run on it's own as a solo game without access to NCSofts servers.

So suck it up buttercup. Caveat Emptor.

    And what time zone?

Remember the ruckus when they started testing the Freebie Friday giveaways using 12 AM BST British Standard Time.

So will NCSoft use PDT, EST, BST, or even KST or some other time zone.
  24. Been a while since I saw that movie so I'm not sure if it was from there or something else. I just stumbled across the gif looking for something else and grabbed it.
