FWIW: It's not a defeat-all. I don't recall whether defeating the Rikti around the shield generators is required (maybe, maybe not; don't remember, but it's probably a good idea anyway), and defeating the Hydra Head without defeating the tentacles is impractical to say the least, but it's not a defeat all.
And I only recall 2 Krakens in the basin when I ran it last, so I suspect their location is random. And I know you don't need to defeat them, because we skipped most of the Krakens in the catwalks.
I don't think the level difference, Krakens, or the timer are what really makes this trial difficult (or at least, not when I've run it). It's how the Hydra itself hits like a mac truck loaded with nitroglycerin. Psychic nitroglycerin. -

Quote:While true, I seem to recall someone saying that they flashbacked the mission with their lv50 Crab Spider, and the clones were using Summon Spiderlings (a lv35 power)... which isn't even available to the flashbacked player. It may just be a specific bug (and a hearsay bug at that), but it seems like it's not impossible for the clones to get access to the higher-level powersThe first mission we did was versus 8 AR/Kins, but their powers only go up to 29 so there's no FS, Trans, and I don't think the clone gets Full Auto as I did, since they don't get the exemplar bonus of access to extra powers.

I might be wrong, going off of memory, here.

Damn, really? I mean, I can understand having only a single shard (like EVE Online), but if you've only got one shard you should back it up with more than just one server. (I'm not sure if you could find a single computer able to act as EVE's single shard.)
-
I was speaking in a vacuum: -dam or +res. But yes, you're correct. Combining both is a different beast.
100 damage attack coming from enemy
-10% dmg reduces it to 90.
+10% res reduces it to 81.
If they stacked additively, the damage would have been reduced to 80. -

Quote:Not impossible, just infinitely improbable*. And we all know how that turns out...The set of all rational numbers is infinite. To guess a single number from all rational numbers you would have to have all rational numbers in memory and chose one. Otherwise you would be choosing from a subset and the answer would be invalid.
This is prima facie impossible. Therefore the computer cheated.
Edit: Also, Deep Thought was created by the pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent race of beings (whose three dimensional protrusions into our universe are ordinary white mice). So we can assume they're a lot better at making computers than we are. (And we can also assume that a computer built by pan-dimensional beings would itself be pan-dimensional.) And even with all the extra awesome that these pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent beings' power, Deep Thought was still the size of a small city.
It took 7.5 million years to come up with '42', and Deep Thought assures us (the reader, and the pan-dimensional beings) that he checked it "very thoroughly", and 42 is "quite definitely" the answer.
* Since we apparently have some non-hitchhikers with us, the spaceship used by the protagonists runs on an "infinite improbability drive", which causes the ship to simultaneously visit every point in the universe before arriving at its destination. Also, it caused two incoming missiles to transmute into a blue whale and a bowl of petunias.
... a bowl of petunias which said "oh no, not again". -
That seems unlikely. I figured it was a discrepancy between where the game drew the NPC's origin point, and where it assumed the origin was for interactions. (This can be a common problem, for example if the artist makes the model's origin in the center of the body vs. at the feet.)

REST ASSURED THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY!
It seems there was a discrepancy with the domain holder and the host they were previously hosting with is holding the domains hostage.
I've spoken "BeefCake" (Last Remaining Admin on B-H.com) and he has assured me the issue is in a resolved state, but has no idea how long it will take the previous host to hand-over the domains.
Again, They WILL be back online; Beef thanks you for your understanding and patience in this matter. -
Quote:Normal Damage Resistance resists Damage debuffs, as noted earlier. Level differences affect the debuff as well (see Purple Patch). If there are any enemies that resist -Damage debuffs (and I'm not sure that there are), +Resist would be better in those circumstances I'd think. On the other hand, -Damage would help everyone subjected to the debuffed enemy's attacks, whereas +Resist would only help the buffed character.
However, assuming X% Damage debuff actually affecting the target (whether X% vs. a target with 0% Damage Resistance, or X% after the Damage Resistance has reduced the original value), it is exactly equal to X% Damage Resistance buff on yourself.
Of course, while on a team, a Damage debuff will benefit all of your teammates, while many Damage Resistance powers only affect yourself. -
Quote:In theory, Theory and Reality are the same. For me it isnt hard to just remember my time as a Dominator and in that memory just picture myself doing more damage. That is the underlying change that has occured as you have stated correct? Just more damage outside of domination. The archetype still is too fragile and genetically inferior in my opinion.
In reality, Theory and Reality are very different.
In the abstract, yes, the only change was that the damage buff was moved out of Domination and directly into the Dominators' attack. However, that small change makes a world of difference when playing the characters. Everyone benefited hugely from the change, except those people who were stacking Domination (which would give them stacked damage buff).
Quote:If they went with some sort of defensive bonus, I think they should have an aggro bar, and per each enemy aggro'd (up to 10, 12, or the 17 cap) they should get a minor Resistance and Defense bonus, perhaps capping out at somewhere around 15/7 or 20/10. This would make them most stalwart for alpha strikes, which is more suited to tankers, I'd say, than building up to a defensive furor.
I don't know if I'd call it the greatest, but then I'm a Mastermind fanboy. However, you'd be hard pressed to find many players who think Gauntlet is absolutely fine. Whether it strengthens your case or not is irrelevant. -
Quote:Sure I do. I played one back in 2006-07 to 41 but gave up on it. Despite the damage increase I believe occured in my absense I doubt nothing has changed and I rather an AT that does not rely on its inherent so much the player wants to devote time and energy to reach the great perma inherent.Quote:Confirmation of this recent damage buff does not attract me to the fragile AT.
Previously, Domination doubled the magnitude of your mezzes, increased their duration, filled your endurance bar, and increased your damage. Now, the damage no longer comes from Domination, and instead all of the Dominators' attacks (except Psychic Shockwave) have been equivalently buffed. (And while PSW wasn't buffed, the rest of Psi Assault got buffs to disperse how drastically weighted the set was toward PSW.)
So, Dominators do more damage than they did*. Like Containment, Dominators can increase the magnitude of their holds (except Dominators can double their magnitude, instead of just adding 1). Unlike Containment, Dominators can increase the duration of their effect. Unlike Containment, Dominators can instantly refill their endurance bar. Unlike Controllers, Dominators now always have the extra damage available.
Not only are Dominators playable without their inherent, their inherent is far and away better than their closest counterpart.
* With the exception of people who managed to stack Domination before
Quote:With Hero ATs their inherent is always on from the start so I will stick with them.
I take it you don't like Blasters, then? Blasters have fewer means of survival against PToD than Dominators do. -

(Or, more specifically, it is the job of the powers designer[s] to balance things; other developers work on things like art, animation, AI, story, etc.)One of the major negative factors of this game to me is the absurdly long time it takes the developers to Buff things

Quote:NO REAL TANKER INHERENT
Disregarding Kheldians and Dominators whos Domination I view as an overall disadvantage, every single AT on this game, now including Defenders , has a inherent that improves personal survivability.
Also, there's no disadvantage to Domination, and I shall now laugh at you for claiming so: hah!
Quote:FIRE AURA
Fire Aura has been left to rot in inferiority for the last 4 or 5 years.
Quote:Fire Aura still to this day continues to have no knockback protections and impractical immobile protection.
Note that I don't mention FA trading off immobilize protection, because it's there. The fact that it can be frustrating to use wasn't considered in the original design. This is similar to the original design for Unyielding (then Unyielding Stance), which offered all your mez protection in one place, but you could move when it was on.
There is reason to the madness, but I agree that FA could stand an improvement. -
Quote:If we're including T9-style shields like FoN, I submit a Dark/Elec brute with res cap to all, including Psi, when Power Surge is active. Energy and Psi are capped without PS (since Elec is good with Energy resistance, and PS doesn't grant any Psi resistance). The build was made a long time ago as an exercise in reach resistance caps (psi cap in particular), so doesn't quite meet the Res/Def combo we're talking about*, but I've already got it on hand:Traps defender with power mastery FON.
Softcapped to every vector, res capped to all but psi.

* The original build didn't even bother trying to make the offense even usable, and wasn't a complete build. After City Traveler became available, I updated the build to make it possible to play without ripping your eyes out; in the process I removed Hasten, but got 50% recharge from set bonuses and 20% from Lightning Reflexes anyway. -

Quote:That was my reading of the suggestion, and I also like it. It's less "lemme haev yur vet rewardz nao!" and more "Let's make the vet system better!"I'm not entirely certain that I'm reading this correctly, but I think that you're saying to have two sets of rewards rewards running alongside each other... the original one that counts time from c.6 years ago and a new one that just counts time from whenever it's implemented. The original list would still work, but not have any new rewards added to it.
So if it was implemented today and I got my 60month original reward today, then in 3 months time I'd get the 63month reward from the original list and I'd also get the 3month reward from the new list.
Someone else starting today would get the 3month reward from each list in 3 months time.
Is that the correct interpretation?
If that is what you mean, then it's not actually that bad an idea. Though I'd keep the badges attached to the original and possibly the odd annual reward - i.e. I'd still add badges for things like 90month vet.
It could even make sense from a dev-time allocation standpoint: As time goes on the number of people who've been here fully subbed from day 1 will be going down (as people leave or 'rest' their sub).
So the number of people getting the new benefits/rewards when they are available (or soon after) is decreasing, meaning that devtime put into them is effectively becoming less efficiently used.
But if a second stream of rewards were started from now then virtually every current player would benefit from any devtime spent on the 3 month reward when it went 'live' in 3 months time. -

Quote:In the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series, a computer named Deep Thought calculates that the answer to "Life, the Universe, and Everything" is 42. When the creators of the computer are extremely confused (and who wouldn't be?), the computer replies that while the answer was correct, the creators were confused because they didn't have the question (which is also why it took so long to calculate the answer).Hmmm Why is everyone saying its 42?
Inquiring minds want to know.
The same race then creates a bigger computer to calculate the question. That computer was called Earth. Unfortunately, the second computer was destroyed by Vogons just minutes before the calculation was completed, in order to construct a hyperspace bypass. You've got to build bypasses.
Later, they discover the question. I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe...
(Note: While 6 x 9 does equal 42 in base 13, Douglas Adams didn't intend any actual connection between the question and answer when writing.) -

It's not random, it's just 99999 seconds. 27hr 46min 39s == 99999s
