Quote:The text says it extends a 'probe' and starts probing, IIRC.The machine then draws a sample on its own (begging the question of "how," but that's besides the point).
Quote:I look forward to the game taking pity on me and permitting me to kill all of these people the very next mission, but I rather doubt this will happen. And even if it did, I'll still have gone through the initial humiliation to get to that point.
Overall, I find the arc amusing. There are spots that I really don't like (mind time-bomb? Really? And even assuming my character believes the existence of such a thing, I can't figure out the truth from Dean John Yu's reaction?), but there are other parts I really do like (I found the whole playing-dumb-for-the-Arbiters hilarious. I also really like the dialogue from the Technology Quartermaster). -
No, they sold the "Hero Gear Kit", which was basically the Collector's Edition without an install disk. It included all the physical goodies (HeroClix, map, CoH PvP Online comic), and a code to unlock the in-game stuff. The Hero Gear Kit was little more than a repackaging of spare copies of the Collector's Edition.

Apparently, Kijiji is a subsidiary of eBay. Of course, the posted link is to kijiji.ca, the Canadian version of Kijiji. http://kijiji.com redirects to http://www.ebayclassifieds.com/ -
Ah, I see your concern. Sorry I don't have a picture for you, though. =/

Taunt drastically increases your Threat rating for NPCs - 1,000 * TauntDurationRemaining, to be exact (this also means the Tanker using Taunt every 30s will likely lose aggro to the Tanker spamming Taunt as fast as possible). As far as we know, no other elements of Threat that we know of (attacking, proximity, etc.) have such a coefficient. NPCs use a list of targets sorted by Threat to help the AI decide who to attack.
Of course, even if you've got the highest Threat in the room, if the enemy is confused, he can't attack you.
I'm not entirely certain how that interaction works in PvP, since Taunt works entirely differently in PvP. -
I'm not even exactly certain what it's supposed to do >.>
I logged in once without it checked, played some, used the store, and even bought some points. I logged out (which you apparently have to do after buying points), and actually paid attention to the checkbox logging back in. I checked it, assuming linking my NCSoft account couldn't hurt, and I didn't notice any difference.
What's it supposed to do? -
I was under the impression that you could only get them if you had reached the top tier... that is, spent points on everything else already so why not spend a point here?

Quote:If you're going to make this argument, compare the CoH CE goodies to something more similar, like the stuff in GR CE: you can get the GR CE enhancements via Paragon Rewards (I didn't bother checking on the Alpha/Omega/emotes, though).Okay... Why won't they? They made the Good vs. Evil bonuses available for purchase, why not the Collector's bonuses?
Do note, though, that GR CE is the "Complete Edition"; CoH CE and CoV CE are the "Collector's Editions". There's different intent behind those names. GR CE is like getting all of the addons for your car. CoH CE is like getting the first steering wheel off the assembly line. The addons are awesome, and everyone can have them if they pay; only one person can have the first steering wheel. -
Quote:These are the enhancements you got if you purchased Going Rogue: Complete Collection. One of the Paragon Rewards gives you access to them, so if you were veteran enough going into CoH:F, you get them automatically. Otherwise, you can get them with a Reward Token when you're at the appropriate tier (I believe they're in T6 or 7).I don't know what these are called and I don't know what I did to earn the right to have them. I just know that every time I make a new character post Freedom, I receive five Praetorian-themed Damage/Recharge enhancements with a different proc on each, all at DO levels, all of which lose their proc at level 21. I suspect it's a veteran reward thing, but I don't know.
Regardless, do you use yours?
For those who haven't seen them, they're basically 5 Dam/Rech IOs with ~16% for each aspect. 4 of them have a damage proc for different damage types (IIRC it's something like 5% chance for about half the damage of a normal proc), and one of them procs for knockdown. They can be slotted at level 1, but the procs go away when you train to level 21 (the enhancement values remain). Like just about everything else given to every character, they can't be traded.
I use them, though I have two problems with them:
- They use up half my inventory, and I can't slot all of them for several levels. Since they're all Dam/Rech, some characters may have significant problems slotting all of them quickly. This can be mitigated somewhat with Freedom, since you can get more enhancement storage space, but these have been available since GR went live.
- They reduce recharge, on characters without any means of endurance management yet. This can cause endurance problems if you're not careful. -
I introduced my ex to the game, and when we played together she would go buy TOs every 2 or 3 levels. I tried to explain to her how the enhancements effectiveness worked, I tried to explain about the existence of DOs and SOs and how much better they were, and I tried pointing out how fast we were leveling up, that she was wasting inf. But she just kept stocking up on TOs.
Then when she found a DO store somewhere around level 15, she complained she couldn't afford them. /facepalm
Then again, this is the same woman I had to speak with for over an hour (not exaggerating) on the phone walking her through the process of crafting a jetpack temp power. -
Quote:Amazon has 2 copies of the Collector's Edition (Well, they've got 10, but 8 are listed as 'used', so I'd advise against them)According to Paragon Wiki, Prestige Power Slide could be obtained by purchasing the City of Heroes Collector DVD/Hero Kit.
For those of us who did not purchase this kit, is there another way we can obtain prestige power slide? I would like to add it to my ice-powered heroes, so they look like they are ice-sliding (with the frost path aura). -
Quote:Well, Paragonwiki (another Titan Network project) is part of the loading screen tips, that's as close to an official stamp as Mids' has gotten, and probably as close as it'll get. The devs have admitted to using Mids' themselves, thoughYou know what is kinda (not really) a sad thing about Mids? The fact it is so totally awesome, and yet it was made by players, not the game company itself. Has it even got any kind of 'official' approved stamp from NC? It so should.

No it wasn't, that's an internet joke claiming to be a study by Cambridge. The closest thing to truth in the paragraph is a PhD thesis from Nottingham University.
Before I go on, here's an article from Matt Davis at the Cognition and Brain Sciences unit in Cambridge University, UK talking about the paragraph and breaking it down on the technical level, from someone who's actually qualified to talk about such things. The link also has the paragraph in Spanish, French, Dutch, Danish, German, Czech, Icelandic, Protugese, Swedish, Bahasa, Russian, Albanian, Hungarian, Italian, Irish, and Polish, as well as two links to a Finnish version, and a link to a Hebrew version. According to the people who sent the Finnish and Hebrew versions to Matt, they're totally unreadable.
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh?
Red is a word unchanged in the text
Green words have a single pair of adjacent letters transposed
Black words have a single letter shifted more than one space
That leaves 11 words which are jumbled more than a simple typo we've been trained all our life to fix automatically.
- Aoccdrnig = According
'rd' and 'in' have been transposed, and the 'o' has been shifted two places. - rscheearch = research... right?
Except the best correction for rscheearch produces 'researchch'. If you cut the extra 'ch' from the beginning of the 'jumbled' word, you get 'rseearch', which is research with the 'es' transposed.
Note that in addition to the misspelling of the misspelling, the sentence doesn't make much sense: "According to a research at Cambridge...". It could be fixed to become "According to a researcher at Cambridge...", but that would require an additional 'er' added to the jumble. - Cmabrigde = Cambridge
'am' and 'dg' have both been transposed. - Uinervtisy = University
'ni' and 'si' are transposed, the v and t are both shifted two places. - iprmoetnt = important
Again, this is misspelled -- the 'e' should be an 'a'. However, this is more jumbled that the previous 'hard' words, since one of the transposed pairs ('or') has a shifted letter (m) put in the middle after the transpose. 'et' (really, 'at') is also transposed. - wouthit = without
There is no transpose here, the 'ou' is simply shifted three places. - porbelm = problem
'ro' and 'le' are both transposed. - bcuseae = because
Like 'important', this one is trickier than the rest, because the order the changes were made matters. Transpose 'ec', and shift 'us' two spaces to sit between 'ce'. - istlef = itself
'ts' and 'el' are both transposed. - wlohe = whole
'ol' is transposed, and 'h' is shifted two spaces. - Amzanig = Amazing
'az' and 'in' are both transposed.
Note that using a limited number of these simple changes and using fairly short words, you don't even have to maintain the first/last letter of the word. Try: Alptop. Hint: that's one transpose.
If you use long words and follow the written rules of the paragraph (keep first/last letter, randomize the rest), things become completely unreadable. Try: Mliamoganea, or maybe Ducaosbltimboe.
Sorry for the large derailing post, but this paragraph just annoys me to no end.
(That's Megalomania and Discombobulate for the curious) - Aoccdrnig = According

You're probably looking at the extra damage Disintegrate grants to most Beam Rifle powers.

I was going to respond to Ossuary and Sam about the afterimages thing, but I think Leo did a better job that I would have. And in fewer words, too.

Quote:While true that there's no mothership in Boomtown, it's also true that Baumtown became 'Boomtown' during the First Rikti War.I somehow highly doubt Baumtown was ANY of those places. I mean look at the Rikti War Zone, there has ALWAYS been a very noticeable ship crashed in it. There is no sign of a destroyed rikti ship anywhere in Paragon.
How do you get 'BBB' from 'Back Alley Brawler'? It's not like you can pull that abbreviation from his plainclothes name, either; that's Michael White. -
I don't think so. The animation design of Flurry/Sands of Mu has the character moving his hands fast enough to leave afterimages. Yes, technically the character model is moving slowly and little purple images of hands are appearing in the air around the character's arms, but the design is afterimages-level speed, however that flavor is implemented by the animation team.

Quote:Yeah, the only time I've been on a team in the tutorial was with my gf on a pair of level-pacted characters.I have a feeling there will be very little Co-op going on. Just new characters without any chosen alignment each running their missions solo. You can't team in the Moral Choice missions in Praetoria, I doubt you will be able to in the new Galaxy City.
Though I was under the impression that new-GC was going to be available outside of the tutorial, it just wasn't going to be a starting zone. -
The defense softcap is 45%. However, the enemies in the Incarnate trials have elevated tohit, requiring (IIRC) 55% def to floor all of them in the same way that 45% floors enemies outside the trials.

Quote:Boxes come with 1 month subscription; someone who purchases a box will be VIP, at least for a short time.So then all CoH boxes already put up on display will have to be taken down once Freedom launches?
They did the same with Dungeon Runners.
(This isn't a quote from a redname, it's just the way I've seen every single other F2P game with shelf presence do it) -
Quote:Within the launcher, you can also right-click a game to make a shortcut directly to that game. Using the shortcut will open the launcher, patch if needed, and then launch the game. (And if you have the launcher set to close after starting the game, it'll then close.)You can't actually skip the launcher anymore, AFAIK. However, if you shortcut to CohUpdater.exe (e.g. my shortcut is: "G:\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"), the launcher opens and immediately launches City with no delay (unless there is a patch). You can set the launcher to automatically close when launching a game within its options window.
If you want to get this by modifying your shortcut properties, you just need to use the /LaunchGame switch, with the correct value:
/LaunchGame=CityOfHeroes
/LaunchGame=CohTest
/LaunchGame=CohBeta
Use it just like you'd use -project coh, except with the NCSoft Launcher executable, instead of the CoH executable:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NCSoft\Launcher\NCLauncher.exe" /LaunchGame=CityOfHeroes -
Quote:Well, the real-world holidays are what players are used to. And for many of the holidays represented with MMO events, players are taking vacation time or have time off from school, an opportunity to play more.I've always thought it would be cooler if CoH celebrated in-game holidays and events instead of real world holidays. I think this about all MMOs, but they seem convinced that duplicating real-world holidays with virtual equivalents is more interesting.
Meh. -

What about Forbin's suggestion of a Premium server?
