Quote:Excellent way of explaining it. Now we just need to figure out whether my two quantum physicist characters are Science or Tech origin - if your example hero with the magic sword is Magic-origin, that suggests a device user might be able to be Science as well under the right circumstances. When new, complicated, self-invented devices that alter electron spin, accelerate time, or pack photons into something more harmful than plain old light are involved, where do you draw the line? I mean, it's not like it's something so mundane as a freeze ray or a pair of rocket boots - there's a difference there, right? For me personally, the question comes down to something simple: at what point did I believe my character become a hero or villain? Was the addition of the magic sword the moment when the character was "born?" If so, magic origin. If my character was a hero first, and then got a magic sword, natural.

OK. Witch sets. Here's my take:
Plant Control - Fantastic choice, my first thought for any witch character, especially a Good Witch. I tend to think of witches as being especially in tune with very ancient things, and "nature" is solidly in that category.
Storm Summoning - The Cabal uses this to great thematic effect. Like Plant Control, it's nature-oriented. This would be my second choice.
Demon Summoning or Necromancy - Obvious picks for Bad Witch characters. Pick and choose depending on whether you're leaning more toward devil's-bride-witch or voodoo-witch.
Any ranged Ice sets - Snow witches are cool and well established as an archetype in storytelling.
Mind Control - If your witch is an enchantress-type, go with this.
Empathy and Pain Domination - Witches are frequently healers. Do not mistake that for healz0r; I'm just saying that these sets are great for representing the idea and I know full well that these sets have even more strength in their buffs.
Dark Miasma or Radiation Emission - The debuffs in these sets work fantastically as hexes and curses.
Force Field - Magical wards are another thing witches often do.
Fire sets - For even more thematic goodness, color the flames pale blue-green to make them into foxfire like a real eccentric old woman who lives way out on the moors would summon.
As for what I definitely would not use -
-Mercenaries
-Thugs
-Robots
-Any primarily melee AT
-Guns
-Arrows (unless you're going for a Golden Compass-type witch)
-Traps or Devices
-The swords from the relevant Fire and Ice sets that contain them
And probably not use -
-Earth or Stone sets
-Sonic sets
-Psychic sets other than Mind Control
-Energy Blast or Radiation Blast (more wizardly than witchy)
-Thorns
-Kinetics, Illusions, or Gravity, though I'm not sure why not
Personally, if I had a witch character, I'd probably run Plant Control/Empathy for a mystical herbalist type. -
Even when I don't get my first pick for a name, I can usually come up with a good one anyway. Voidstar was unavailable for my sentient black hole, so he's Unstar instead and now I like that even better. A Carnie strongwoman I'd meant to name Sideshow Sally is instead Sideshow Suzy. My elec/fire dominator is Plasmette instead of Plasmia. Power Ballad became Power Balladeer. Adam Smasher is Atomsmash. And that's not even taking into account all the names that were free first try: Paindemic, Seasquall, Lumenvoid, Fissure Strike, Silverwing Sentinel, Hour Thief, Illumineer, Baron of Bad News, Double-Dealing Diva, Argent Provocateur, etc. These are all on Virtue, even. It's rare that I can't come up with something that's not just decent but good.
The point: Yes, it's anecdotal evidence, but those names are all recent acquisitions. Anyone could have gotten them, and the ones that weren't my first picks sometimes had me struggling for a long time to come up with something, trying and discarding name after name. The only problem you have if you think every possible good name is taken is that you aren't persistent enough, because the names are there. -
Quote:I've emptied out the "Costume Parts" dropdown from the NPC chick, and I've claimed all my email vouchers. I am level 50.1. Did you buy them all? They are separate pieces.
2. Did you claim them all in the email vouchers?
3. Are you level 50?
4. If you can find the Ascension Armor, the Radiance versions are either the next option on the list after the armor, or, they are subdetails. -
yeah, I'll just go ahead and continue to root for the team from where I live...
GO BRUINS
BOSTON WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO -
Quote:That almost sounds like a way to cover an oops by explaining it away, not that it isn't cool. Not an oops. Read the lore - the red line was destroyed in the first Rikti invasion, the yellow and green lines took on the Red Line livery in honor of it.

So uh, who'll be the first to see what's wrong with this picture? Ignore the stealthy hero on the tracks; she's just preparing to board - with her aversion to human touch, she prefers to ride outside the train. There is a mistake, but it's nothing to do with her.
-
...okay, I can't seem to find the glowing aura options for these... what's going on?
-
Even just being able to color them tarnished bronze instead of sleek stainless steel would go a long way.
Re: Lasers - They still work if you just call it a "Death Ray" instead. -
So I'm doing this with my SGmates (and two of my own characters in said SG) as the subjects... one of the directors keeps poking me to post them all here, so enjoy. Post would be image-heavy, so have some links:
Mister Muppy, the Big Bruiser - a brain-damaged ex-Bane Spider and all-around big teddy bear belonging to @RajjyPants
Psi-Dome, the Tech Hero - a Chilean mechanic with a mildly-reality-bending Fifth Column supercomputer grafted onto his head, belonging to @Tinhead
Kitai, the martial artist and/or weapon user - a ninja with an ultrafast metabolism that gives her regenerative abilities, belonging to @JupeJupeRocket
Timesplice, the Speedster - a mutant who moves in bullet time, belonging to @Lion-Hearted
The Hour Thief, the Sorcerer - about 35 years old, born in 1919, living on fiftysomething years of stolen time accumulated by his crimefighting... bad guys can't fight back if they don't have time to react.
More when I finish them. -
Excellent idea. I simply must run it by my friend who was already planning on using the backpack for his Ghostbusters homage.
Quote:Great costume, but the first thing that came to mind when I saw it?
Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego? :-D
...Yeah, when I found the name free I couldn't resist, really. -
I've set my deviantArt login to show me whatever's the most recent. Trust me - I've seen much, much worse art today. Your stuff ain't bad!
-
That was my reason for registering
So far I've only done one, because of work - I'm an assistant baker at a restaurant, which keeps me very busy. Hopefully it'll be acceptable for me to play catch-up and submit some late ones. The one that I did complete is the very latest Big Bruiser listed. -
Quote:I am aware. It remains true that if you're wearing a cape, wings, or backpack, a back emblem would be covered up if it WERE possible to have both. Therefore, there's no reason not to let us choose one or the other. This would work the same way as helmets/hair does. If you have a helmet on you don't get to choose a hairstyle. So if you have a cape, backpack, or wings you don't get the option of choosing a back emblem.
There are many examples in the costume creator where your options are limited by a previous costume selection.
This is what I mean with the skirts, too: let us choose leg detail OR skirt and I'll be happy, because the leg details would probably just clip with the skirts anyway. -
Quote:I knew about the shirts, and in fact mentioned it in my post. I did not know about the arms-visible-in-stealth thing though. Not true. Only the jacket sleeves that Jay made with the I13 Day Jobs pack do this. The older jacket sleeves keep the arm underneath, which you can see via clipping or stealth powers. Furthermore, Shirts have sleeves that apply over the arm, rather than instead of it. It's a choice that the artists made, rather than a costume editor limitation.
-
This is because of how jackets work. The actual sleeve is only part of the costume piece - the other part is the exposed arm. The existing short sleeves behave that way too. All jackets replace the entire arm from shoulder to elbow instead of layering over it like the Shirt and Robe sleeves, and there isn't a way for the game to detect what the pattern should be underneath. However, the upside is that it allows you to make costumes with two-colored tops and exposed skin on the arms, which is not otherwise possible.

Silverwing Sentinel's aura has been upgraded - formerly it was Runes from the origin pack:
Seasquall is now properly damp:
Double-Dealing Diva can't wait for her fourth costume slot:
And The Illumineer is all over this this like white on rice - she already has a hero costume or two, so it's time for some civvies:
-
I know, but if you had a backpack or wings or even a cape you wouldn't see the emblem anyway, so why bother even having one? I fail to see how it's an issue. I mean, nobody cares about what hairstyle they may or may not have if they're wearing a full helmet, do they? Isn't a back emblem that would both conflict with and be hidden under a pair of wings the same thing?
-
Yes, yes, I know, "not enough body anchor points." I understand fully that there is a limited number of them, which is why we can't wear every single costume part we want all at once. As a clothing-modder for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind I encounter the same problem often, so in most cases of impossible costume requests, I sympathize with our truly awesome art team.
In this case, I call BS. If the devs can do backpacks, they can do this.
For any costume that could make use of a leg detail, there is already an unused anchor point: the skirt. Since leg details would probably clip horribly with most of the skirts/kilts/shorts a character would deign to wear, why not just put them in that body slot? The bones are even already there for animation, if such is an issue in this game.
The same principle could be applied to giving us back emblems (maybe please?). Stick 'em in the Back Detail spot; it's not like they'd show if we were wearing wings or a cape or a backpack anyway. -
I was in that situation once. Thought up the name "Paindemic" for a villain right at the beginning of my six-hour baking class. Got lucky on that one - he's a Zombies/Poison MM!
