Offline name check

There times when I come up with a character concept or idea for a name and would really like to check if the name is available, but can't get to the PC I have CoH installed on. I would love to see access to the name check facility without having to launch the game itself for those times.

And then spend the next 8 hours at work agonizing over the possibility someone will snag it before you can get home? Heh.

I was in that situation once. Thought up the name "Paindemic" for a villain right at the beginning of my six-hour baking class. Got lucky on that one - he's a Zombies/Poison MM!

You may want to alter your title, because that's not an "offline" name check. You still need to get online, connect to a server and check its name database. What you want is, perhaps, an in-browser name check.

This is a good idea, but I don't think its likely to ever happen. Ages ago they were planning a 'City Vault' site, where people could browse characters, see their badges etc... through a web browser. From what I remember it was cancelled because once they got into it they found out that connecting to the game servers like that was very difficult/caused lots of problems.

Of course, things change and anything is possible, but I wouldn't get my hopes up about it happening anytime soon.
