  1. That fiend! How much longer must we wait for the Star Wars Holiday Special to get some special ed/3D love!
  2. I remembered a band from THIS decade that I liked enough to buy their album:

    Eek a Giant Space Crab!

    In other news: Unknown Mess.

  5. I liked Metallica's Black album - it was almost nostalgic for me, as it reminded me of the Great Old Ones, like Black Sabbath, Deep Purple Mk II, and pre-cowbellian Blue Öyster Cult. I actually went to a Metallica concert not too long after that was released, which to date remains the last concert I've attended, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. They sounded GREAT - and I don't just mean they played well, which they did, but they got a really clean, clear mix in an auditorium in which many other bands failed to do so (looking at you, Van Halen). It was one of the two best sounding concerts I've ever attended, the other being an R.E.M. show (circa 1985).

Well, for me, it doesn't get much heavier than early Black Sabbath, but that would mean going all the way back to the 70s. Specifically, the Paranoid and Master of Reality albums, although Volume 4 has its moments.

From the 90s - heh - all the crazy stuff I've listened to over the years, it took a song by Garbage to finally blow the woofers in my old Pioneer speakers: The Trick is to Keep Breathing from Garbage 2.0. It happened when they went into the chorus and the bass line took that plunge waaaaay dowwwwn. Now THAT was heavy.

I'm not very good at making actual Japanese names. It's just easier for me to look up Japanese names.

For the blood wind, I'm not sure how you could make it into an actual Japanese name, but the word for it would be "chi no kaze", or 「血の風」, if you're interested in the kana. The meaning of that would be "the blood's wind", or blood wind.
So, when I came up with the surname 'ishimukou' for a character in another... um... amusement or pastime... how badly did I do?
  8. Okay, finally got to him, and yeah - 'war walker' Siege is ridiculous. It's looking like it's going to be another <bleeping!> stand-off, just like my ice/mace tanker vs a boss War Walker. My DM/Regen scrapper can't out-damage Siege's heal, and so far he hasn't been able to defeat my scrapper. Gonna load up on reds and see if that will do any good.

Edit: well, my scrapper prevailed. It took three reloads on inspirations - the third time I used 15 out of 16 small reds. Funny thing - when he was defeated, he dropped War Walker parts, which are much bigger than him.

Ms Jenkins was all like, "You do this arc now, you young whippersnapper! Right now!" So I got started on it and was making progress and then she insisted that I take Statesman with me.

And I was like, "Aw, do I have to, Ms Jenkins? He'll steal all my kills!"

At which point she whipped out a broom and started hitting me about the head and shoulders. So, anyway. I'm working through that arc.
  10. I'm working through that arc with my dm/regen, so I should run up against him soon.
  11. I say let us shop at home!

We can buy and sell stuff in RL via our home computers. Why can't we use a computer inside our SG bases to do the same in game? Too convenient, having a crafting table, salvage storage, and auction access all in one handy dandy location?

    -5th = Reichsman

  15. ***We interrupt this thread to bring you this breaking news story***

A historic agreement has been reached between comic book giants Marvel and DC in regard to the popular 'Wolverine' character. Full details have not yet been released, but the gist of it is this: from now on, Wolverine will appear in every title published by both companies. At an informal news conference earlier today, a DC spokesperson told reporters that this so-called 'Wolverinization' deal would likely 'save comics!' Still unconfirmed: a thus far undenied rumor that in the near future the pages of all Marvel and DC comics will be held together by adamantium-plated staples that will produce a 'snikt' sound every time a page is turned.

Sources at various and sundry comic book specialty shops around the world are reporting that many customers are gathering together and simultaneously shouting 'Noooooooooo!' except for a few who, for reasons unknown, are instead shouting 'Do not want!' Whether this is related to the Marvel/DC 'Wolverinization' deal or the announcement earlier today that George Lucas will direct every episode of the hit TV series 'Glee' this season is yet to be determined.

In other news, Godzilla and the Blair Witch have announced their engagement. We'll have more as details emerge.

We now return you to your thread.

I wanted to try my 50 en/en/force blaster against a War Walker, but the mission Maria Jenkins offered was against Marauder. At +0 (x0) with a build using just SOs, my blaster had little difficulty with Marauder as an EB. Unfortunately, that was the last mission Maria had for me. So I went to Ouroborous and picked up the Nightstar mission there. Ack. My difficulty settings = no War Walkers. Fine. I went to +1 (x0) with bosses. Still no War Walkers. At +1 (x3) I got War Walkers.

Alas! Pretty much the same as with my ice/mace guy - I could get the War Walker down to about one third health and sometimes a little more if I got in close and used melee attacks, but that was it. No problem dodging the orbital lance thing, but the stuns were ultimately my undoing. That, and running out of endurance. I used some of the accolade powers. No help.

Gonna try again with that blaster's alternate build with assorted IO bonuses and the fire pool.

Edit: Got him with the en/en/flame build.

Keeping him stunned prevented that <bleeping!> heal from going off.

Edit #2: Tried my 50 DM/Regen scrapper at +1 (x3) with all SOs (except for 5 Doctored Wounds IOs in Dull Pain) - FWAM-BAM PHOOM! Scratch one War Walker. Hope this doesn't mean there's a... you know what... coming.

I ran into one with my ice/mace tanker. First thought: oh, cool! Second thought (ten minutes later): dammit, used up all my reds. Third thought: (twenty minutes later) ah, the heck with it. So I left the thing alone and completed the mission objectives.

    Stupid War Walker.

Haven't tried a different AT against one yet.

Here's what I do: whenever I make a new character, I take some screenshots. I've got lots of screenies of new heroes posing with Flower Knight (who needs her own TF, dammit!). I also have lots... and lots... and lots... of screenshots. Going all the way back to October of 2005.

I haven't played all the arcs, so I don't know - but is there any actual evidence that Hami is still out there? Do we ever see a Devouring Earth critter - or the remains of a Devouring Earth critter? If so, where?

    ASSASSIN STRIKE

Nice clouds, though, I cannot lie.

  23. Air Control

Seems like Air Control should be relatively painless set to build, as there are several powers already extant from which animations might be 'borrowed':

Char - single target hold; no air for you!
Cinders - multi-target hold; no air for a group.
Gust of Wind - knockdown with a stun effect?
Psionic Tornado - multi-target immobilize or an aoe attack.
Tornado - as a pet, like singularity.
Soul Storm - another possibility for a single target hold or possibly group hold.
    Levitate - call it 'Updraft'.

What else could be converted to 'Air'?

    Animal Control/Summoning

Yes, much work required, four legs, all that. >!cracks whip!< It *can* be done! I was thinking something along the lines of Illusion -

Wolf Pack - summon three wolves to attack your foe. Pretty much a re-skin of Phantom Army. Alternately, 'Unleash the Hounds!'
Kodiak - this would be the 'Phantasm' of the set. Smashing/Lethal damage with a Fear effect. "You made a bear!" Alternately, a big cat.

    Other possibilities...

Rodent Rampage - a hold, as rodents scurry all over the target(s).
The Birds - aoe attack with a tohit and/or defense debuff.
Skunk Spray - cone attack, tohit debuff.
Dam It - an aoe slow, as beavers build dams in the path of the foes.
Monkey Shines - aoe confuse as flashlight-wielding monkeys run amok. Maybe use the extant 'imp' model?

Anyway, I thought of this when I woke up this morning (before coffee), and I thought it would be nice to share. Already been suggested? Cool.
