Quote:Martial arts does not have an AoE knockback power, just a single target.
I can't think of a single time I've teamed with someone that rolls anything other than concept characters that has taken hand clap or lightning clap.
You should come team with me then, i took HandClap willingly, without needing it for concept. It's a great situational power and the few times i use it, i'm extremely glad i still have it. ( And it only cost me one more slot on it to have full effectiveness from it.) -
Quote:It's your argument that doesn't hold ground in my eyes. What you're suggesting is a nerf for anyone who know how to use KB. You need to slot KB IOs to keep it, wich means no matter what, you'll lose effectiveness. And most importantly, you won't be able to get the last set bonus. Need i remind you that's it's often the last bonus that have the +def , very usefull for any defensive sets( and resistance sets too if you build for it).I will give this a yes every time I see it suggested because of the simple fact that it DOES NOT take away any tactics. All you have to do is slot it with ONE kb enhancement to change it back to kb. Any arguement against this change holds no ground in my eyes. If the one enhancement change destroys your toon, you were doing something wrong. You dont even have to put in a pure kb io, it could be a kb/rech, end, acc, whatever.
This comes up a lot. Obviously it gets mixed results every time, but in the past a majority of the people who posted on the topic have been in favor of the change.
If you don't like KB, why don't you play the other multiple sets that doesn't have it or like SS that it's tied to a damage-less power? It's pretty annoying that everyone always try to f@%$ KB sets cause they don't like it. That's as smart as complaining you want to make a ice character but hate -rech or a fire one but you want mezz. The sets are different for a reason, players have different playstyle.
(On a positive note, it's the first time i see people defending KB like this on a post. Glad to see i'm not the only one loving KB.) -

DM/FA is actually a really fun combo with two End Recovery powers, two Build Ups, two Heals and an actually decent Res. If you confine your farming to Fire heavy enemies, it'd make a pretty decent farmer. Might be a bit squishy but will definitely have the damage, especially once built for a good amount of +recharge.
[/ QUOTE ]
With IOs, you can easily get 25%-30% def to melee. It far from squishy with that. -

I've read all the post, and there wasn't anything bad in it.
PG 13 doesn't mean "never mentionning sex, dating and sexual preference ever". I've had my first "sex education" class when i was about 7-8.
The difference is that for 13 and the like, we only describe in detail when it's in a purely biological way to explain reproduction. Anything else, we must not go in details.
Just talking about butt wingling or that some people prefer to date people of the same sex.... nothing wrong with that.
Yes we need to protect the younger readers from extremely sexual or prornographic talk... but we must not over protect them to the point of them asking at 18 years old: "So... anyone can finaly explain to me if it's the bee and flower or if it's the stork that really make babies?"
It really shouldn't be surprising that it wasn't modded. O_O -
Because Punch isn't a "punch". =P

I dont see it working out well. getting 14 powers and only 7 tray slots people will have to choose a build to fit the teams needs not play what they like. Only time will tell

It's not very different then CoH if that problem arrive.
CO: You're a healer? No, then i'm kicking you.
CoH: *crickets crickets* Hum.... i guess i'll log in my defender, every is LF support.
In CO, they'll ask you to change.
In CoH, nobody wants to invite you unless you switch character. -
I have to admit, i haven't played a "free style" MMO yet.
The probablem i'm seeing with CoH, is that not everyone think the same. You mentionned a scrapper, but that's a case that doesn't cause much trouble except in scrapper-tanker rivalty. If you had said corruptor, now there's a lot of debat. A lot of people invite a corr wanting a buff-bot. On the other hand, corruptors were the most damaging ranged AT red-side. Someone who wants to "just kill stuff like a blaster" could very have taken a secondary like sonic, taken only the "personnal" shield and skipped everything else for attacks.
In that case, a lot of people will invite a corruptor wanting buff, then kicking him he's just damage with one buff. It's sad, because people who do that change there definition everytime. When they invite a defender, they yell to only buff/heal cause it's there primary. When it's a corr, he's supposed to still just buff/heal.... but it's his secondary.
The one thing i'm hoping with an open systeme is that everyone will take a bit of everything. If everyone distribute there 7 powers as this:
1 travel
1 mezz
1-2 personnal protection
1-2 buffs
2-3 attacks
Nobody would yell cause the tank didn't take aggro. Nobody would need to receive 6-7 buffs from one person, everyone would do one. And everyone would contribute to damage instead of faceplanting as soon as the damage dealer die.
It would be a bit like.... a team of SoA, wich was all the rage when they first went out, and it worked very well. -
[ QUOTE ]
yeah and with that example how does that promote teaming? I can invite a troller to my team and i know i have controls. I invite someone to my team in CO i either have to force them into a role or i have a hodge podge team..The CO sewer does not smell like roses to me
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, i'd be more interested in teaming in CO then COH.
In COH, i HATE how so many people need the perfect team setup with tank-support-damage-control. What i love is when a random team just form, with mix-matched ATs and they succeed anyway. (cause outside of the LRSF/STF and hami, nothing really needs something special for average players)
Or i love when it's a team full of melee, just brute, scrappers, stalkers, blappers and tankers.
In CO, it seems like there won't be any "waiting for 30 minutes to find a tank". And people won't feel forced to play a pure "hearlorz" emp cause they think that's what most people want.
Everyone will only play what they truely want, and there won't be a way to know who's what "role" untill the team is made. (aside from broadcast =X but hopefully, the bad habit won't start) People will also learn to build more reliant characters i hope. So no pure buffer that can't take a hit and can't do damage. No awesome wall that can't hit a flie. And no nuclear weapon that gets kill by said flie. -

Just a little something...but couldn't it be that they did it to favor making alts?
In CoH, you're forced to make alt if you want to test a fire hero after playing your ice one. If CO allow full customization and mix-matching of powers, wouldn't give as much powers as you want eliminate the use of alts?
Sure a few people would still make them for RP, names and costumes....but all the "pure gamers" would make 2-3 max then be done with it...
[/ QUOTE ]
i...don't quite follow, could you i get clarification on your point? although i heard and though the 7 slots thing was to emphasize build roles....
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll give it a try with an exemple from CoH.
Let's say in CO, you make a ranged fire character. With another build, it's a sword melee character. In the other, it's a buffer/debuffer with minor ice ranged attacks. Then in the last build, you make a tanker with a shield.
In CoH, you'd have to play 4 different character, and level them all one by one. To reach 50 with all of them, for a new player that doesnt do any alt.... that's at least 3-4 months.
But in CO, it's just one character you have to level. Sure even after 50, you'll play more that character then any in CoH thanks to the multiple build, but that would still be about 2 months.
Basically, you eliminate the "grind" part almost completly, even more then CoH. And if there's no grinding, it shorten a lot the time most player will stay on the game. (very bad for devs)
Of course, that's all just assumptioms. I have no idea what the max number of builds or powers is. Ad i haven't seen a single thing about the content. o_o -

I've heard good thing about oppressive gloom+ EM's stun.
With EM/DA, you'll be the perfect ghost killer and you'll be able to kill any psi AV solo. =P
On a side note, EM/SR have WAY more option to build for recharge.... you start with +20% and you can get five +7,5% LotG with just your secondary powers. That's a huge advantage. -

Yay, thanks a lot NekoAli.

EM blapper, not blaster.
And i can't make one and get the accolades, since my account finish tomorow.
You really have reading problems it seems.
I cannot know something without trying it? Sorry but rational beings can make realistic assumptions based on past experience.
I've been burnt to various degree in my life and i know i didn't like it. Does that mean i'd have to try being burn by a blow torch just to know if i like it?
The Smarts (the small car) didn't exist during last nuclear explosion. Does that mean we can't know for sure if a Smart would survive a nuclear explosion?

Good news though FireWyvern. There is a single player version included with the game. Same basic storyline, but you don't get the Stonehenge expansion stuff. But you can still play. You don't get some of the improvements they made (skill balancing, mail system, that sort of thing) but it still works fine. And assuming you can find a copy somewhere, people will probably practically give it away.

*cries a river with cute little fishes* I so wish i could have played Hellgate:Lodon. The comic and books were so great. -
Both have fairly resisted damage and aren't "THE BESTEST EVAH" at something. People tend to gravitate with the 1-2 best at one thing.
Both are really good at being able to aoe like crazy. My mace skipped whirling mace and i'm still doing pretty awesome aoe damage.
Both sets seems to have pretty much the "same" DPS between all the attacks. So any axe attack= another axe attack and any mace attack = another mace attack. ( ST vs ST) So you aren't relying on one big attack (like SS with KO) for your ST damage. And you aren't relying on only one aoe like a lot of the old sets. (EM, SS, stone)
Of the two, i only played mace, to lvl 46. I'm extremely happy with her damage output and even received compliments for it. (from other brutes O.o) -

Wow, 50 something views and no one has an opinion?

A little tip: give more details. =P
In the OP, you only say you want a new brute, by didn't mention for what it will be ( farming, tanking, PvP, TFs, ST or aoe?) So the only advice we can give you is purely subjective personall preference.
That was one of the main reason i was one of the "50". The other being the complexity of both combos. SR is considered better then shield for "protection", but your shield combo have DM's heal. SS is considered better then DM for damage, but your DM have shield's +dam. So it's pretty hard for me to judge.
If you like a lot aoe, pick SS/SR. If you want the less endurance heavy build, pick DM/SD. That's about as much i can say. =X Siolfir probably gave a good analyze of both. =) -
A little off-topic, but was is a recruiting cycle? Does it mean you only accept new member every X months or something like that? If so, why?
-
Bill is a soloist, but he enjoys huge mobs. That's the complete opposite of ST and it changes TONS of things.
No need to argue semantics, i explain for both side. I answered for the defence = defence sentance and for the defence meant "protection" side. /FA is extremely good for protection. It have decent resistance (35% is decent, try playing a invincibility-less ilvun, they have 20% to most) and an amazing heal.
Little side note for that, what the devs buffed is irrevelant of what the set's main mitigation is (though i aggree that the heal is extremely important for non-IOed FA). When they buffed energy aura, they gave it a heal, does that mean the heal is EA's main mitigation? No.
WHat i "do" with /FA can't be replicated by any other set. Sure i can give def to another secondary, but adding def to a def set will eventually "cap" at 45% and all the rest is wasted. And all the def adding won't provide layered mitigation on a set that only have def.
FA have one thign that can't be added via IOs. The heal. No matter how much +regen you get, it still won't be a controlled burst of HP. IOs can and does change FA's reliance on the heal. The attack's animations can't be changed, but it doesn't give mitigation.
With IOs, you can have a /FA that doesn't relay much on his heal. When you have around 30% defence to melee, 50% s/l , 35% to the others and your primary's mitigation (whatever that is) you don't need to spam healing flames that often. I'll often go for 1-2 missions without using it once. And when i do use it, it's once in a while, not as soon as it's up. And that's cause i try not to use insps. If i wanted, i could live happily without healing flames for 95% of my gameplay, thanks to green insps.
I might not have an EM/fire, but i does have a character with long animation primary that use healing, a EM blapper that always stay in melee and have to live with TF's long animation and i tried a few FA, one that his 46 now.
Just because i didn't do like you and make a character that doesn't fit my style, doesnt mean i know nothing. If i was to do a EM/FA i know i'd love it and wouldn't have as much problems as you do. Because i'm a ST person.
I hated my elec/WP because it was too aoe oriented for me. DO you see me crying over it on every post about elec or WP? No because i'm smart enough to know that combo doesn't work well WITH MY PLAYSTYLE. -

The guy have a concept for a character that's going to be very good. Telling him not to do it just because another character is better doesn't make sense. If the guy wanted a FoTM character, he'd just have checked the last 395485984358 posts about it.
[/ QUOTE ]
dude... nothing kills a "concept character" like sets that dont gel together. EMs mitigation is massively tragic and fire armours defences are not awesome to say the least, the heal is but you cant fire that off during animations and standing there in TF and ETs massive long animations watching yourself die because its unable to fire isnt fun. Thats probably the main downside, fires mitigation is in its heal and that cannot function during the glacial attacks.
He asked how they fit together, and the answer is BADLY. If he wants EM he wants a non-interactive secondary like WP or SR, if he wants fire armour he wants FAST firing animations like DM/FM/SM so he is able to react and utilise its main mitigation power.
[/ QUOTE ]
They don't fit BADLY together. Specialy in a soloist setting, wich is what the OP asked for. EM's mitigation isn't massively tragic. You can easily perma stun one enemie, wich is a lot when you're only fighting 4-5 enemies MAX. Against EBs and higher, pretty much all the normal mitigation doesn't work. (stun, hold, KB) and debuffs are heavily resisted for the most.
Fire armor's defence isn't awesome? I hope so, they don't have any defence powers. If you meant defence as in "protective power", then you are extremely wrong. /FA is extremely good, specialy in solo setting and/or if you use IOs.
The "long animation" problems with healing flames isn't likely to be a problem in solo setting. Against an EB or AV, you can easily get the timing of his attacks to avoid getting killed.
/FA with IO is extremely good, because /FA starts without def, the easiest thing to add. He have decent resistance ( hard to get with IOs, only s/l via pools) and one of the best heal in the game. (impossible to get, with IOs or pools)
BillZBubba, i've seen your post a long while ago about your EM/FA. If i remember correctly, you were disapointed of not being able to do the RWZ challenge and you're normal play style is the "dive in a 8 man team alone". EM/FA is NOT an aoe machine. It's obvious he'll fair badly in all that. And it's no wonder then even a non IO stone/WP will work better for that. stone have great aoe mitigation and WP is one of the two "vs huge mob" set.
The poster asked for soloing and ST. In that case, EM/FA would be awesome. Now that i've taught about it, i'd probably make one if i wasn't going on a break of CoX in two days.
