Jab?

I've noticed no one seems to like jab in their build with SS/WP. Can anyone cite a particular reason. Seems like a fast fury builder in combo with brawl? Punch's animation looks like crap :P

Thanks ahead of time!

It's got the same animation as Boxing, same chance to stun and deals less damage. The DPA of that attack is one of the worst, if not the worst in the game. It's utterly and thoroughly crap.

This... although I'm pretty sure Spines has the worst DPA attack in the game in Barb Swipe with 0.40 DS/sec, and Kick is less at .459 DS/sec.

The only advantages Jab has over Boxing are slightly higher base DPE and a half-second faster recharge (both of which are mostly irrelevant once your character is slotted).

Before level 6, you can simply use Brawl as filler without having to waste a power choice on it.

Jab is pretty dang bad, but there is one power that still manages to best it. The amazing thing isn't that there is a worse power, it's that it has 70% the DPA of Jab (0.356 scale/sec vs 0.51 scale/sec).

I present to you, Barb Swipe.

Ah, I see you went through the trouble of accounting for server ticks. I didn't bother.

Interesting replies thank you but still, why am I stomping with my leg when I punch? :<

Very interesting numbers, thank you!

Because Punch isn't a "punch". =P
A lot of SS's name are mix-matched with the wrong powers....

I've actually seen that move IRL a few times. You give more strenght to the attack thanks to the momentum.

The same reason you're slamming your hands down on your opponent's shoulders when you uppercut.

I'd also say that it's likely due to some animator watching too much professional wrestling.

OMG what a cute avatar!

How could I forget the suck that is Barb Swipe. Jab actually has one more thing that's better than Boxing, it's Stun Duration is 7.152s compared to Boxings 4.768s. Considering the chance to stun is a mere 10% it doesn't make much difference, but we have to be fair.

What bugs me about Super Strength...aside from the rage crash...is precisely the fact that it is animated like a pro wrestler. The Punch animation is one, and the silly cartoonish windup on the Knockout Blow is a good example.

It is a nice filler for the stun purples for that extra recov, accuracy and recharge when you mal down. Also lots of fun to put on auto on a high recharge build to mess with people in pvp.

The thing is that Boxing can do all that while dealing more damage and opening up the Fighting pool though.

I will have to look at respecing I have jab and haymaker atm, simply hate the animation on punch, and it looks like your boppuing em on the head! o.o

But numbers wise I see what you all mean! Thanks!

Boxing doesn't take Taunt IO sets, if I remember correctly.

To my knowledge, no. As it can be taken by any AT.

And Controllers get aggro enough. Adding Taunt IO possibilities would be horrific.

Jab can take the Taunt IO's and Boxing can not. However, I think Taunt is a better place to put those IO's anyway. Melee, and Stun IO's are better off in Boxing since it will open Tough, and Weave. The only things Jab has going for it are the sound, and glowy effects like the rest of the set. If I could drop it from my Tanker I would in a heartbeat.

If you really hate Punch that much you might want to consider Air Superiority. Boxing, Air Superiority, and Haymaker might be more visually appealing. You could either not slot Punch, or look to use it as a mule later. I happen to like it though.

Well I gave up and gave Punch and Haymaker rather then Jab and haymaker, we'll see how it goes, hit 26 yesterday and took stmaina finally o.o! Now I should be fine on my own o.o!

Thanks everyone, please feel free to chime in, I'm now considering Regen Slotting vs Defense slotting since my mitigation seems decent brute wise (my wp/EM is just fine with mitigation, so I don't see how hard it's going to be this flipflop either
