  1. Sheesh, no one mentioned this one from Pulp Fiction yet?

Jules: The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

    Or the classic:

    Fabienne: Whose motorcycle is this?
    Butch: It's a chopper, baby.
    Fabienne: Whose chopper is this?
    Butch: It's Zed's.
    Fabienne: Who's Zed?
Butch: Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.

True story-saw this movie with my parents over Thanksgiving. They came to town to visit me when I was in college, and I didn't know what the hell to do with them. We figured we'd go see a movie, and this was the only thing playing at the particular time. Imagine sitting in a theater with your mother and father while watching the whole 'bring out the Gimp' scene. THAT was an interesting experience.
  2. Hey, Kylie,
I'm generally a soloer, as well. I often get weird responses to that, but I just like playing the game my own way, at my own pace. I've soloed every AT up to 50 (except Kheldians-just couldn't get into them). My general comments on the three you mentioned are as follows:

    1. Defenders. Probably the hardest overall to solo, just because it gets frustrating. They just don't do a lot of damage. Sure, you've got lots of buffs/debuffs to help mitigate incoming damage. But then you have to plink-plink-plink away at the critters. If you go this route, I recommend you plan on doing two things. The first is to do whatever it takes to increase your damage. This could be effective IO set slotting/Assault, or it could be picking a primary that is heavy on -res debuffs (which essentially act like +dam). Mobility will also be key-you've gotta stay out of melee, unless you pick a set with some soft control.

    2. Blasters. Lots of fun, but again, be wary! They are the definitive glass-cannons. You need to plan ahead here as well. Not so much to increase damage-the whole 'mini-fury' thing they've got going with Defiance 2.0 is great for damage, and being able to still fire off your first two powers while mezzed also helps greatly. However, you're fragile as hell. Range is your friend-use it (and don't forget HEIGHT in that category, too-moving up out of melee can be a lifesaver). And slot generously with sets for any defense boosts you can. Resist boosts are kind of a waste, since you don't have that many HP's anyways. But avoid getting hit as often as you can, and you can survive longer to blast away and outblast the critters. Again, any soft control you can get will always be a big help.

    3. Stalkers. Oh, stalkers. The soloers AT. Seriously. You have to be careful, and they're a bit of a one-trick wonder. You Build Up, AS, Placate, 'Big Hit', run away to get back into Hide, return, repeat. You'll be squishy until your Tier 9 (or some really good IO set slotting), and you'll run away a lot. But the ability to stealth through just about anything you want (barring Rikti) is AWESOME for soloing. The only problem is that you tend to buzz through the content so quickly that you end up short on xp once you hit the late 20's-early 30's. And teams are hard to come by as a stalker (if you decide to team to fill the gap). They just don't fit a team dynamic well. But if you're a content junkie, a stalker is a way to see EVERYTHING in the game. It's a hoot. In terms of playing, I recommend taking Hasten and your Tier 9. They will help you get Placate/BU/AS/Tier 9 back up as quickly as possible, yet also still help your overall survivability.

And there's my thoughts on them. Hope it helped somewhat. Have fun!

    • A Hero can go all the way to Villain and then back to Hero again, if they put in enough effort.
    • Praetorians do not use the normal GR system, but have points within their stories where they can choose "Loyalist (aka Villain)" or "Resistance (aka Hero)"
    • When Praetorians leave Praetoria for Primal Earth, they choose if they want to be considered a Hero or a Villain, and are plopped into Paragon or the Rogue Isles.
    • A Vigilante (Rogue) can travel to the Rogue Isles (Paragon City), and can team up with the Villains (Heroes) there. They can not use the markets while they are there however. They must be a full Villain (Hero) to use the markets.
So then, is 'plopped' a technical term? ;^)
  5. I intend on telling anyone who asks one thing-

GR is freakin' awesome, and you're gonna love it.

Haven't even seen it, but I have a gut feeling that this is true (and wouldn't be breaking the NDA, regardless). :^)

Aren't you in Wales, in the UK? Except to us pretentious Americans, speaking with an accent isn't talking in a different language. Also, accents don't come through well in typed chats. :^)
  7. Well, I understand your frustration, because I tend to rawk out a mish or two before work as well. But I've often wondered if the amount that I play is actually healthy for me. It seems...I don't know...like a compulsion for me to play, every day, even for a little bit. That doesn't seem too healthy to me.

Maybe we should both take this server maintenance time as a chance to take a breath, take a step back, and check our priorities?

Of course, this might not be the best time, since we're all about to dive headlong into 2x weekend! :^)

  10. I've got one of each, actually-a bs/regen, and a kat/invuln. The bs/regen hits like a freakin' Mack truck. Of course, that could also be the 40-50% bonus damage I've slotted her with. :^) I forget the actual amount, since it's been a while since I've been on her.

By contrast, I often have trouble taking down the pillbox turrets in RV with my kat/inv. Aesthetically, I like her more...but sometimes you just want to kill ****, FAST. And bs just does that better, I think.

    But both are good. :^)

I have no input on the actual argument at hand, or interest in it. But the extent to which people will wage online battles to try to prove their point always amazes me. I forget who originally said it (Kissinger?), but someone once said something like 'Battles between academics are very interesting-never have people fought so hard over stakes so small.' I think we need to amend that to read 'people on electronic bulletin boards' instead of 'academics.' :^)

I apologize for this-but as an infectious disease specialist, I just had to chime in. Your information is somewhat incorrect.

The actual infection from H1N1 is actually somewhat brief-it's probably expunged from the body within about 7 days total, depending on the person. But the illness basically makes you feel like you've been hit by a Mack truck. The problem actually lies in the speediness that the illness initiates your immune responses.

When you get a viral infection, your body's immune system makes compounds called Type I interferons (also known as interferon alpha and beta). These have antiviral properties, both for the infected cells and the cells in the immediate vicinity of the infected cells. These are produced, as well as a number of other immune response proteins. Collectively, the problem is that the response itself ends up making you feel awful. Oddly, the infection itself isn't really the thing making you feel bad-it's your body's own response TO the infection.

However, once your immune system gets the upper hand on the infection and clears it out, the levels of these immune response proteins drops and you get back to normal. The biggest problem with flu is actually secondary respiratory infections-like pneumonia-that can set in 3-10 days post-influenza due to the impairment of your respiratory tract's bacteria removing cilia. So, stay in bed, drink lots of fluids, and don't bother with Tamiflu. By the time you're ill, it's too late for the drug to do any good for your infection (aside from a placebo effect).

And there's my 2 influence on the matter. Oh, and I hope you guys get better soon. ;^)

I lol'ed. I do this as well. Except for the part with the planned builds, I plan them as I go up, personally. But once I'm in the 30's, my toons are usually sheer awesomesauce and very, VERY fun to play. They then get a lot of love until 50, if I don't get distracted by some other new idea. Good times, even after 5+ years! :^)

  16. Yup, lots of caveats on this one. However, I personally always liked a crit on Headsplitter from the broadsword set on a scrapper. Slotted well, even without buildup, and you're really, REALLY nailing a single-target.

Others I like? For damage strictly? Lightning Rod and Shield Charge. Nice AoE damage, but also just an AWESOME visual effect on each.

Bitter Ice Blast is also pretty freakin' cool, straight outta the box. I'm thinking specifically here of lots of damage without Buildup or Aim. Just what you can do with it, with some slotting. Blazing Bolt (I think that's it-or is it just Blaze?) from the Fire blaster primary is similar. Fast animation, big single-target damage.

Now, to completely change your original point-if I had to say my absolute favorite high-damage roundup on a character? Running Assault, hit with Fulcrum Shift, running at full Fury, with Rage double-stacked...then hit Knock-out Blow. Or Footstomp. Proceed to clean self up, then repeat. :^) Good times.
  17. Well, bummer. Ah, well. Thanks for the info.
  18. Is it possible to get the Redding Rail Rifle on a Huntsman? That would be kewl. Anyone know, before I go to the trouble of earning the merits? And how many merits does it cost? Thanks!
  19. Back when Global was going down about every 5 minutes or so, I actually made an evil little robotic bug MM and called him <drumroll, please!> "The Global Chat Bug!" His bio reads 'All your globals are belong to me since 2005!' I couldn't remember the exact date they implemented global chat, so I winged it.

On a side note, did everyone notice the awesome calendar desktop backgrounds that @Master-Blade made up, in the sig of someone up above? Pure win. :^)

  21. I think more than a few people are in the 'wait and see for I16 and/or Going Rogue' holding pattern. I'm still playing, but not as much as I used to. Although, I'm personally VERY stoked that I'll get in on the first wave of closed beta for GR.

As to my 2x weekend? Jumped around a bit, nothing too impressive. Managed to get on a pickup Citadel tf that was quite fun, probably only picked up about 5-8 levels total. But, I do think all of that was in the post-35 range, so that's not so bad. I did have a good time, overall, and isn't that what it's all about? :^)

    DING-DING, we HAVE a WINNER!

I think people finally started to just play the game a little, and didn't know what to DO with the salvage they were getting...so much more is going on the market for 1-5 infamy/influ.

Or, it could be that people have finally crafted most of what they wanted to for characters following the last couple of issues, so there just isn't the 'gotta have it NAO' demand there was the past couple of months.

Or, people have finally wised-up to the fact that they can roll for salvage using their bajillion racked-up tickets, and usually get what they want far cheaper and faster than on the market...and they're selling off the excess at bargain prices.

OR-probably some combination of all of the above.
  24. I still pull out either my 50 kat/inv scrap or my 50 ss/inv brute to tank for these boss missions. They do all smashing damage, my best resisted/defended type. :^)

Good times, and the teams appreciate my contribution to keeping them vertical.
  25. You received a temp power in the mission right before this-'Midnight Visage.' It lets you cloak as her dad to talk to her. It's on a timer, however-and I'm not sure if the mish can be completed if you used up the temp power. May need to /petition it for completion if you did. Hope that helps.

By the way, the temp power usually has time left and you get to keep it after mission completion-it's a nice little ultrastealth to have around for a while.
