From another thread I just read that Positron has come down with H1N1 and is feeling rather bad. Here's to wishing his a speedy recovery. This is the worst flu you can get and it can last weeks.
Hope your back feeling health soon. |
The actual infection from H1N1 is actually somewhat brief-it's probably expunged from the body within about 7 days total, depending on the person. But the illness basically makes you feel like you've been hit by a Mack truck. The problem actually lies in the speediness that the illness initiates your immune responses.
When you get a viral infection, your body's immune system makes compounds called Type I interferons (also known as interferon alpha and beta). These have antiviral properties, both for the infected cells and the cells in the immediate vicinity of the infected cells. These are produced, as well as a number of other immune response proteins. Collectively, the problem is that the response itself ends up making you feel awful. Oddly, the infection itself isn't really the thing making you feel bad-it's your body's own response TO the infection.
However, once your immune system gets the upper hand on the infection and clears it out, the levels of these immune response proteins drops and you get back to normal. The biggest problem with flu is actually secondary respiratory infections-like pneumonia-that can set in 3-10 days post-influenza due to the impairment of your respiratory tract's bacteria removing cilia. So, stay in bed, drink lots of fluids, and don't bother with Tamiflu. By the time you're ill, it's too late for the drug to do any good for your infection (aside from a placebo effect).
And there's my 2 influence on the matter. Oh, and I hope you guys get better soon. ;^)
Basically too many 50's to count, but I'm generally a brute/scrapper/tank kind of guy.
Posi also said he has pneumonia so yea, secondary effect.

Ouch, speedy recovery let's hope. Someone here in the Tampa Bay area died from h1n1 this morning, it's nothing to fool around with, burn those pax clothes if you went.
Yea this nasty flu sucks. I got it 2 days after I went to PAX and the meet and greet (Where I played around of cards with Positron).
I hope all the Paragon Studios folks get a speedy recovery and that thier families don't get impacted to much by it.

I apologize for this-but as an infectious disease specialist, I just had to chime in. Your information is somewhat incorrect.

Get well soon Positron! |
A friend came back from PAX with it.
He went back to work 2 days after coming back because he "used up all his vacation GOING to PAX". I told him he's liable to get fired if he infects his office, and his boss finds out.
This didn't stop him.
So...
I did what any concerned friend would do.
...
I called his mother.
She drove down from Wilkes-Barre, PA and ordered him to bed, and has been taking care of him ever since.
Is Posi trying to work through it too? Or should we call HIS mother?

(i've gotten some negative rep for spam posting. apparently this same thread is also posted in City Life if you want to post over there as well. I rarely read outside my home servers [here and Victory] and thought if there are others might like me, they might like to know Posi was sick.)
