Quote:I actually think The Avengers will have a disapointing box office draw. Marvel has had very little in the way of failure at the box office but out of the Avengers cast', only Iron Man has been a massive success. The others did well, but they weren't huge money makers in the same way that Spider-Man or Iron Man were.
I also think that what makes The Avengers so appealing to comics fans is exactly what's going to drive mainstream audiences away. And while I was jazzed that Joss Whedon was selected to direct the film, I think he's exactly the wrong director for the film if they were looking to make the most money making film possible. It'll please fans, but not the general audience.
And on a personal level, the more I see of The Avengers, the less I want to see it. I'm still excited, but not nearly as much as I was initially. I think it will be good, but the dialogue is looking cornier and more hokey with each new clip. That, and I'm getting a Transformers feel from some of the action scenes, which is pretty terrible.
Still, I'm jazzed about seeing it, and only time will tell as to how good it is and how successful it is, but I won't be seeing it opening night.

At the companies I've worked at, release (or escape if you will) schedules are set by the marketing/sales department and revolve around three major themes.
1) Opening up an untapped market by adding requested feature;
2) Satisfying a big name customer by adding requested feature;
3) Competitor just added a new feature that we don't have, regardless if any of our customers has asked for it or even know what it would be used for (XYZ just added to their retro-encabulator the ability to sort widgets anticlockwise, we have to close the anticlockwise sorting retro-encabulator gap).
And sadly the software development is forced to sit back and watch the pile of non-critical bugs and ideas for QoL features grow from release to release because the scheduling is so dominated by marketing that any time that isn't devoted to duct taping new features from any of those three categories is time that can be used to duct tape yet another new feature onto the product.
However Zwill is right, many players will never notice such fixes because they've either never notice or encountered the problems or have learned to work around the issues so they wouldn't notice if fixed.
Personally I would be happy if they came up with a procedure that guarantees we will never "lose" a costume part, mix up an animation, graphic or sound effect from an previously existing power ever again when a patch is released. -
Less well known universes.
Person Favorite:Quote:By the way, That One Earth That Is On Fire is its official name, as designated by Portal Corp. They don't go there. -
Quote:Desktops.Excuse my awkward question but I would be interested to know from hardcore fellow gamers if their preference would be to use a gaming pc laptop notebook or the desktop version.
You can upgrade desktops, swap out malfunctioning components or get a better display.
Laptops you are basically stuck with everything but memory and storage which you can generally upgrade. Also there are still some laptop manufacturers that refuse to embrace generic mobile drivers from nVidia and AMD making circumventing driver issues a problem. Then they have cooling issues. Ones that are powerful enough to play this game with UM turned on aren't really that portable due to relatively short battery life so you may be able to take the system anywhere, that's within reach of a power outlet.
Yea, I'm a little bias. -
Same body style be used for either.
As for the actual episode, I chortled with glee when Carter's sheriff truck is blown up, again.
So are we going to have episodes both inside and outside the "matrix" or are we going to go the traditional "the crew suspects" along with the "let's find and rescue them" A and B plot? -
Quote:As I was leaving a supermarket a couple of nights ago I noticed vehicle parked next to mine that belonged to a paranormal investigation group that's in my area. The sad thing was it was the same make and model used on Ghost Hunters, with this group's name as an acronym on the side in the same font that's used for the Ghost Hunters group.Same here. I don't know who watches all of those inane Ghost Hunter shows, but it sure as hell isn't me.
Hey if you are going to rip someone off at least do it with some panache and use a 1959 Cadillac hearse. -
And since SyFy's ratings are so low, they tend not to host their series on Hulu anymore.
It along with Warehouse 13 are series I enjoy for their trope aware characters and quirky sense of humor. And hot geeky redheads. -
Which is why several players have made cursor replacement mods that are more noticeable than the game's default pointer. Here's one.

Quote:Well that other MMO was shut down for most of the day and it's currently subscription only. Here the majority of the game's content is available to F2P so that type of compensation is meaningless to some.Almost every time there is unexpected downtime in CoH an argument quickly ensues on the forums between the folks who think we should get game time back for the time we were unable to play and those who say this is an unrealistic expectation. I have stayed out of the discussion because I think both sides of the argument have merit. But another MMO that is still rather new just gave subscribers a free day to make up for an unexpected downtime following a major release. I wonder if other MMOs may start to follow their lead...
I don't want to start another flame war, but I'd like to know what people think about this* in a civil, constructive discussion. Have other MMOs done such things before now, or does this set a precedent? I do think this lends a bit of weight to the idea that we are entitled to something back for outage time, since at least one MMO has apparently agreed with that concept, but I don't plan to ragequit if it doesn't happen.
*By which I don't mean the entire old argument, but how the fact that another MMO is doing it bears upon the issue.
In the past Paragon have extended events when unexpected maintenance cropped up during those events. They've also opened up the ski chalet at Pocket D for a few weeks I think as compensation for some issue. This costs them nothing.
Now others have suggested points but that does have some intrinsic real world value since there is no way to acquire them without real money changing hands. Same goes for PR tokens, character transfers, respecs or renames.
Your idea that some kind of compensation would be a positive thing to their bottom line is only valid if you believe that without such compensation their income stream will be harmed or that the compensation would somehow encourage players to spend more money. In the second case maybe if you give a super pack away that you could make an argument that the first "hit" is free and additional income will be made as players become "addicted" to the packs and buy additional points to buy packs. Still all those packs will have to be accounted for as an expense.
Now if your believe in my first case, not giving compensation due to a few hours of unplanned down time would be harmful, then you must believe that this game's players are fed up to the point that unexpected down time is the last straw and only compensation will prevent a mass exodus of paying players.
That's my two inf toward this discussion. -
Intel SSDs still cost more than the other big brands, being the first on the market with a viable enterprise class SSD has let them be the Cadillac of SSDs.
SSDs are a lot more complicated due to various restrictions about flash memory that don't exist conventional hard drives. Because of this an SSD controller contains a more sophisticated CPU running considerably more complex software in an attempt to hide the complex juggling that needs to be done due to flash memory. And with all complex software, there are bugs. Not sure how many are the result of trying to benchmark faster than the next drive or trying to be the first to market using controller X from company Y but there's been some oopsies along the way.
AnandTech's Bench charts on SSDs may be helpful. However controller, firmware version and type of flash memory all effect performance. Also due to multiple memory channels in the controller, higher capacity drives tend to have better write performance as small drives (60/64GB) don't use all the memory channels.
You can all check the charts found in the most recent SSD reviews at TechReport and Xbit Labs. The last page of the Xbit Labs review has a hierarchy chart that lumps SSDs into four tiers. -

Yes, the GTX 465 was a stop gap card to compete at a particular price poing based on a even more disabled 480 until the mid level GPU use in GTX 460 came out. Similar performance to the original 675MHz GTX 460 (460s that came out recently are all in the low to mid 700MHz range) but sucked power like a GTX 470. -
Monday 9p EDT SyFy
And of course Felicia is back. All SciFi TV series should have a cinnamon girl. -
I have an Ill/Kin who has been booted from many a team once recruited because she doesn't have Speed Boost (or Increased Density or Inertia Reduction). Have all the debuff enemy to buff party because her "concept" is shifting luck around.
Am I sad about that, not really since all they wanted was a buff bot so the rest of the team could steamroll through missions. I prefer my teams to have more than "bum rush 'em" as the sole tactic for every mob. -
Assuming your system is configured for automatic updates from Microsoft, this last Tuesday was Microsoft's monthly push of patches and it did include an update to NET 2.0 which the updater uses.
Edit: Oops, never mind. Some reason I thought this was a thread about an NCLauncher problem. -
Thundercats - I guess Tigra is really a prince. Sadly his life went down the tubes with the birth of Lion-o. Now we understand his dislike for his brother.
Green Lantern - Finally back around to the Red menace. Need the creepy guardian stain glass.
Young Justice - Junior Justice League: 2 - Justice League: 0
Legend of Korra - Great 2 episodes.
I have to agree with Mandu, Rocket really does sounds like Numbuh 5/Foxxy Love aka Cree Summer. -

I will admit that CoV swung the pendulum back a bit to far in terms of zones.
What I think would be neat is to use Praetora zone tech to tear down most of the walls. -
If they could plan for unexpected outages, then it wouldn't be unexpected.
This is a game, not a mission critical application which would require a lot more resources, hardware and software development wise, than what players could afford.
I have expect a rant that we get shortchanged for February because we pay for 30 days. -

Once upon a time Virtue was "west coast" and Freedom was "east coast" but that was long ago. The player population is mature enough that in the US servers are more culture/playstyle based than simple west Vs east.
I know Oceanic has a preferred "US" server since their primetime is our sleep time. -
Wow. I was expecting a lively discussion by now.
Any bets that the Equalist movement is tied to the Triads.
It looks like we have our "Sokka" (Bolin) and our "Zuko" (Mako) characters. -
If it was "only in America" it would be a cocktail frank stuffed in a beef hotdog stuffed in a kielbasa stuffed in bratwurst wrapped in bacon dipped in cheese and then deep fried.
That $69 footlong hotdog is merely a way for a upscale city dwelling foodie to pretend to be Joe Sixpack. It's just like the $100+ Wagyu burger.
