Well how many villains in movies were just misunderstood or had good intentions that went awry in Superhero films lately? Nearly all Spiderman movie villains. Of course now I'm trying to think of more and I can't.

There was a lot of innovated things this game did that hadn't made it into other games. First and foremost that the look of your character is everything and it doesn't change because you equipped dropped loot. You change your look because you want to change your look, not because you do more damage or are better protected.
Second for me was the simple tab to target, auto turn to center while power is triggering. I'm not an action gamer, if I select an opponent to attack and he runs behind me, turn me to fact them. I hate games where I swing my sword but because I not quite lined up right or my mouse cursor is not quite on them, I won't hit them regardless of my attack stats. If I use an attack power while I have an enemy targeted and they are in range, assume my intention is using that attack on the enemy I've targeted damn it. Sure, cone based AoE attacks require a bit of alignment but not single target melee attacks. Space/vehicle combat is a different case as well.
The ability to routinely attack and survive groups of enemy. I tried WoW once and while one even con wolf was easy, two were nearly always fatal.
Sidekicking was interesting, solving the problem of uneven leveling among a group of friends where one can only play a few hours a night versus another who pulled an all night gaming session.
Lastly the vast majority of the game is soloable besides the obvious special group missions which are optional. -
PVPOnline's strips came out back when the strip was actually about games and his booklet in the collector's edition was a contract job, just like the guest author mission was.

Damn it, stop making the rest of us look bad.
We are threatened by your awesomeness.

Quote:Well depends on what they do leading up to the shutdown. If they make everyone VIP or if those who were VIP at the announcement remain VIP after their subscription expired, then I would want the full pro-rated amount from announcement till when I would have had to resubscribe so roughly about 12.75 of 14 months worth. Otherwise if they decide to kick players off of VIP who can't re-up while I'm still VIP, then use the shutdown date to calculate percentage. The reason why i asked, is with which option do you get refunded?
1) All months past the cut off date at a pro rata rate (minus your two bonus months, as they are "free")
2) All months past the cut off date pro-rata (including your two bonus months)
3) The percentage of your unused sub fee (not including your bonus 2 months)
4) The percentage of your unused sub fee (including your bonus 2 months)
I seem to remember reading on the forums earlier on this year about someone who said that they were subbed to somepoint in 2014, due to accidentally buying 2 lots of 12+2 subscriptions on their account.
Now *that* one will be interesting to resolve (well, at least for the 1st 12+2, as the 2nd part is just a complete transaction to refund.).
*shrugs* These things need to be resolved, and i would rather they resolve it *properly* and take their time over it (and with Paragon Studio's trying to get the best for us) instead of just .
Hell, for all we know, it could well be $15/month to be refunded, even if you took advantage of multimonth deals... its a possiblity (and possibly the easiest method to do it)
As long as the market remains open for business left over purchased paragon points will still be good. If the market closes early then the cash value of those purchased points should be reimbursed.
I might be interested in some type of GW2 compensation as long as it's an actual box edition rather than just a license and a digital download. But I would still prefer cash.
Mac users of course can't qualify for compensation with another NCSoft game so just cash for them. -
Sorry, Pando Media Booster, a Bittorent like software that a number of MMOs use to download the game and patches. With the games I've downloaded that use it, it only runs when a patch is being downloaded and once done goes away so it's not leaching off your metered cap while your system is idle or even when you are playing that game. It's merely a way for MMO companies to save a little money on bandwidth costs on patch day as well as helping their players get the patch in less time.
There was a lot of Sturm und Drang by the tin foil hat crowd when NCSoft stated to use it with Aion. So much so that NCSoft allowed it to be optional but they do point out that means your patch times would likely increase. -
No smoking gun there.
- Nexon states that they have a 22% growth rate ignoring aquisitions and NCSoft has and develops great IP that Nexon may be able to leverage.
- There was some talk that North America is considered to be a growth market hampered by lack of affordable, available broadband.
- They believe the F2P with item shop model is the best was to make money off of online play.
-
I know the forums are a fast a furious place now due to the announcements but this idea has been talked about in at least three other threads now. It was tried back in late 2008/early 2009, two NA ads (Jeter sneaker and Tony Hawk n-Gage) and one EU ad (movie Babylon AD) and then nothing. For ads to work, advertisers have to believe where they spend their money will end up in eventual sales. Advertisers aren't a case of "if we offer, they will come". They didn't and the tech was eventually pulled from the game.

There has been how many Doctor Who stories over the decades? It's gonna get kind of tough coming up with a new twist for a villain of the week A-plot. It's usually the episode B-plot or the season's C-plot hints that makes the story unique.
-
As someone who did buy a 12+2 that activated 5 weeks before the announcement, yes I would like a rebate/credit please so I can take that money and use it for some other form on entertainment.
-
I'm guessing someone is still paranoid about Pando.
-
I was wondering how you figured out the coordinates for placing a crowd that size. Clever.
-
Aggro limits. I want to see a group of tanks suck an entire zone's worth of critters into an area again.

Quote:What you did was awesome Leandro.Samuraiko has the finished demo code, and I don't know what she plans to do with it. I'm not doing anything else with this giant crowd until her video is released; I already stepped on her toes enough, but I wanted this scene to be out on Unity Rally day to give something for the media to point at and go "that's how many people supported the rally".
This is just a case of Monday morning quarterbacking of someone who actually got off their butt and did something that was cool from someone who simply showed up but had the good fortune of getting a rather noticeable shot of me at the start of your video. -
Marrying co-stars. Works out so well for so many. Not.
Ryan seemed to be a loyal puppy when he was with Scarlett so either Blake strays or he drives her nuts. Betting on the later. -
Quote:First, GT 520 is junk when it comes to game play so yes the GT 440 is a reasonable upgrade. That's a nice monitor. However whatever modern 3D game you choose to play on it, you won't be playing at native resolution with high game settings and a 30+fps frame rate with a GT 440.Hey guys.
I'm looking at completely replacing my computer in order to enjoy Champions Online and get more out of the end of COH. If you have a few minutes to help me out- This is a duplicate of a thread I posted on the CO forums:
So, my current dinosaur of a computer has gotten away with running COH... But it's literally impossible to even launch CO on this thing. I will spare you the horrific specs.
I'm ordering up a completely new computer next week.
I found something pretty cheap on Amazon that I'm seriously considering.
Based on the customer reviews, all I would need to do is replace the video card.
I'm looking at this one.
I love the bundle because it saves me the hassle of derping my way through assembling the machine myself, and it comes with Windows 7 64 bit, a keyboard and a mouse to boot.
I'm also planning on picking up this monitor.
Now.. Where you guys come in.
Will this setup be able to run CO smoothly on high to max settings? (Feel free to approximate or give non-committal answers on the COH board, obviously.)
Or
Am I being swindled and taken in by an illusion of convenience?
As for what CO needs for high to max settings, I have no idea. Don't play it, haven't played it, so I just don't know.
As for the system itself, yes the FX-4100 got some kudos due to it's clockspeed when it comes to gaming compared to some of the "bigger" FX CPUs but AMD is shortly coming out with a major speed bump with the FX-4170 (from 3.6 to 4.2 GHz). That all said, the FX-4100 is simply close to matching the performance of an Intel i3-2100 dual core in gaming.
The price they are selling that for is reasonable. Any reason for Amazon over somewhere like NewEgg?. They have this i5-3450, 8GB, HD 6670 for $700, the cost of that Amazon rig plus replacement video card. That's a Intel Ivy Bridge quad core (which would whump the FX-4100) with a bit faster video card. The downside is the power supply is from an older era and would very likely require you to upgrade if you end up wanting to upgrade to a more powerful video card in the future, but I'm guessing the Amazon FX model has the same problem. -
Quote:No, CoH is NCSoft's only game that is officially supported on the Mac.A question I have, thinking about refunds.
I'm on a Mac. I only have Macs. City of Heroes is the first MMO I've ever played in part because they have a Mac client.
Do any of their other games work on a Mac, or are they Windows only?
Because if they're all Windows only, an account credit is literally, actually worthless to me, because I cannot actually use it for anything.
I would argue (and will argue, should it become necessary) that NCSoft has to pay me cash in these particular circumstances, because their reimbursement is literally without value to me.
And if that fails I'll look into canceling the credit card charges. I'm not sure what effect that will have since I paid once, for a year of service (this would be the first time I've ever had to cancel a charge, actually), but we'll see. -
Well honestly for us, multiple pans across the crowd at the same height off the ground so everyone can find themselves in that video. It doesn't have to be a continuous pan but several pan passes, including left-right and diagonal, the could be cut together to not only emphasize the shear size of this crowd but the variety of unique looks of each and every person there, a major strength of our character creator over other MMOs.
-
That's also a draw back for me, voice chat. First it's cursing/racist taunt tween - young adult XBox style civility that would bug me on top of the voice not matching gender/race of character.
It's not that I'm a role player it's just my mind would be balking at having that voice coming out of that character. It would be like Bubbles of PPG sounding like Christopher Walken. Brain ... tilt. -
Quote:Most of those things were also present in Diablo II.It's hard for me to pass an opportunity to bash Diablo 3, so excuse me for a long ramble. Feel free to skip if you want. To say it was a massive disappointment is the understatement of the year.
It's probably too late for them to fix issues like the mostly unrandom dungeons, lack of reasons to play the same class twice, awful story (that is constantly in your face), and extremely short quest line. But if I'm going to bash the game for anything, I really have to take aim at the gear.
I mean, it works at first, in a very shallow way. But it quickly becomes evident that any piece of gear you obtain only needs 3 or 4 specific affixes, and every person who plays your class needs those exact same affixes. There are 4 base stats and your character only needs two (always Vitality and then whatever your prime stat is).
To anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to be disappointed by this game yet, let me explain to you how the gear system works at high levels. Let's say you're a Wizard and you kill a monster, and it drops a "blue" sword, and a "blue" spear (also a "white" mace that's just there to litter the ground, but let's ignore that).
The two blue weapons are "rares." You already have a "yellow" "legendary" Wand equipped. However, you need to pick up each blue weapon individually and look at its stats, because unlike similar games, the name of the weapon (e.g. "Shocking Sword of Swiftness") has no bearing on either the number of properties it has or what their values are. A blue item can have up to 6 properties, and you can only find out what they are by picking up the weapon and looking at it. The "Shocking" part of the description can mean it does 20-35 extra Lightning damage or 200-450, even for items that are the same level.
When you do look at the weapons, you might come up with this:
- Blue Sword: +20 lightning damage, final DPS = 200
- Blue Spear: +15 gold dropping %, final DPS = 890
- Yellow Wand: +6 mana per kill, +30 damage, + 10 min damage, final DPS = 620
These numbers are not exagerated. It's absolutely routine to find weapons that do a quarter of the damage of other weapons of the same level. That's because even the base damage of weapons is variable: three swords laid next to each other all will have different damage values. (In CoH terms, this would be like having two recipes of the same type and level, except one boosts the power by 15% and the other boosts it by 75%, so you have to examine every one of them before deciding what to throw back).
But wait--this is a Wizard. Who cares about their weapon DPS, right? Well, this game does, a lot. Every single power that does damage is based on your weapon damage. Doesn't matter if that weapon is a bow, a spear, a wand, or a two-handed battle axe. If you can equip it, your spells are based on its damage.
What it comes down to is that you are constantly finding gear everywhere, and almost all of it is unuseful. So then what you end up doing is going to the game's auction house, and buying your gear there. At which point, the whole reason for playing--searching for gear--vanishes. There is literally nothing else to do, except farm for equipment to sell to other players.
/endrant
4 Stats with only Vitality and class stat really important.
Items that required you to pick up and identify to get their hard stats beyond a vague idea. Weapon whose base damage range vary by sub class where that normal speed long sword may end up doing less DPS than a faster but lower base damage rapier depending on bonuses.
That most drops are like most enhancement drops in our game, just something to trade for money because you can't use it or you already have something better.
Okay, Wizard is kind of screwed up if all spell damage is based on the equipped weapon, I'll give you that. -
From my recollection NCSoft has promised no timeline on when they will have a refund announcement. The assumption was that they will get a plan together in a few weeks. Considering both the global corporate NCSoft website as well as the NA NCSoft games site still list CoH as a current game in the stable makes it seem more like it was a snap last minute decision (or someone remembered at the last minute and called Paragon to drop the hammer) rather than a coordinated effort with the best face they could put on it.

Quote:That video was mentioned in other threads since the news hit. It was one of the first CoH Music videos I enjoyed, enough that I downloaded the original AVI that was posted at the time.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LC5lRcxdAyE
This made me start crying again.
We are losing a work of art.
This was more than a game.
The other was the "Holding Out For a Hero" one released around the same time using the original Bonnie Tyler version of the song.
