  1. John Carpenter hasn't had the best luck with his pictures lately. Since the mid to late 1980s actually.
  2. I remember him transferring to the reserves/guard so the Governor could be his Charlie.
  3. Froze my feet by sitting outside dressed in a quickie Jason costume handing out candy to the kids/teens for nearly three hours. Now on a sugar high.

Oh a question for all you ladies out there. The weather is forty, forty five degrees and you are wearing wicked witch stocking going up to your rather short witch's skirt. How do you stay warm? Electric corset keeping your core temp up? Several saucy young women wandering my complex sans little kids. Must have been a party somewhere.

Cutest thing, a little tyke, must be three or four, comes up to me and when I offered him candy, he took one from my bowl and gave me one from his bucket. Well a bag of mini nilla wafers. A little too young to grok what's going on.

Mental note, mini bags of Skiddles much more popular than traditional bar candy.
  4. Hey, at least it wasn't made in a former iron curtain country with lots of accented English and primarily Eastern European cast.

It strikes me as a "want to pick up a few bucks for two weeks worth of work" kind of cheap indie film school style project. Not everybody goes to USC film school.
  5. Nice cheap movie.

I really enjoyed the dilapidated movie lot.

We also have Deputy Andy (which is a bit newer than his SG:A stint as Major Lorne) and that guy who looks and sounds a lot like Lance Henriksen but isn't. Also the Grandmother looks familar but without an IMDB entry I can only imagine I've seen her in other Canadian/Science Fiction fare.
  6. I stopped watching it as soon as I thought "oh it's like The Lottery".

    new computer

Poorly. Integrated Intel video. Slowest clock speed of all the dual core Socket 1156 CPUs for both CPU and integrated video. Combine that with a 220 watt PSU and a low profile design means your chance of upgrading the system to merely OK is slim.

It's also the model that Intel will sell you a $50 (I think) upgrade code to unlock hyperthreading and an additional 1MB of cache.
  8. In this game, simply don't know. In general, well...

A stock clock HD 5850 tends to be faster (~8-9%) than a stock clock GTX 460 1MB card. There are some games where the GTX 460 is faster.

The card in my high end parts list is a stock clock HD 5850. That GTX 460 1MB you linked to has a slight factory overclocked (720MHz Vs 675MHz) which in practical terms about 5% higher performance than stock.

So a virtual toss up in general. However if you consider the price (the GTX 460 is very inexpensive right now) plus the fact it can you PhysX in other games, sadly not CoH/V it's not a bad choice overall. Note that current scuttlebutt is the aggressive price of the 1GB GTX 460 is only going to be good for another two weeks or so act fast.
  9. No sadly the new Hawaii 5-0 is going strong, the best of this year's new shows, from a ratings point of view.

For me the pilot completely turned me off. In the original, it was the Hawaii state police. They investigated and caught bad guys. Period.

The new one is a "special state task force" with carte blanche powers run by a super ex-navy seal super soldier with outcast police friends of his late father because the police in general are corrupt and can't be trusted. That's a tad to cynical and over the top premise for me.

As for the passing of the original Danno, James MacArthur, I enjoyed him in Swiss Family Robinson as well his roles in the weekly Disney TV serials.
  10. First Zoe wasn't a terrorist per se. She had no idea her boyfriend was going to blow up the train, she thought she was going off world to whichever world the Church of the One True God was located (Gemenon?) and bring her creation, virtual life, there. She felt repulsed by the hedonistic virtual playground that her father indirectly help create. The fact she got hung with the terrorist moniker bugged me to no end.

What I hope at least in this new series, we find out whether Adama's virtual clone of a sister became part of the Cylon consciousness or not during the first war.

    30 Geek babies.

    The Chun-Li was very cute.

    The Doctor is getting sleepy.

I so wish I had access to a baby so I could do number 6, or the mutant from Total Recall.

The Leia hair cap is funny.
  12. There were national headlines that came out of Kansas? When? Why didn't I hear about it? This isn't about football or some other college sport is it?
  13. Darn. I found it strangely interesting. I was curious to see how the two current "deathwalkers", Daniel's attempt at the resurrection program and Sister Clarice's need to recover Zoe's original program intersected to create the sentient class of Cylon vs the current "By your command" ones. I would be curious to see the show's bible to see where they were going with it.

    God it's been that long!?

    Man I'm old.
  15. Exactly. But the problem with a scaled up model is the square-cubed rule also applies to power required and a self contained power unit that would be required, other than a gas powered generator like in Big Dog, when it's not tethered, isn't really elegant.

Things we could build with a miniature arc reactor.

Let me clarify, with the fastest laptop GPUs available with your price restrictions for sale at NewEgg.
  17. Well he's still having tax problems so 7 million is better than 0 million. Also he likes the material. I'm expecting a tad less CGI FX and a bit more traditional physical FX.
  18. Sorry, the point I was trying to make was I admire the fact they started with the dimensions of a women first and then try to fit the tech into that frame. There are a lot of robot designs at universities in the US and Japan for the various aspects of an android, from balancing to realistic hands to creepy faces that try to show expressions. But they are all simply pieces to a puzzle. I'm not even talking about the software/AI side of the equation.

Here they took what they learned from their previous HRP models and sticking with their size and weight restrictions build the best android/gynoid they could. Two years ago all it could move was it's head. A year ago it could shuffle a bit. This video showed a greater range of motion in it's limbs, so things are progressing.

Sorry BillZ, wasn't directed at you personally. Just thought some newbies to Glee might have objected to the cardboard stage sets when compared to the glitz/Broadway style sets they used in previous episodes.

  21. So you stopped watching when the show's plot started, well that makes sense. However you did miss the first "That's How Sue See's It" which was funny (remind children the true meaning of Halloween, FEAR).

Maybe because I hung around the drama (and musical) geeks for middle, high and a bit of college that I'm more accepting of the show's look.
  22. OMG! I totally missed the guest stars. I admit it's been a few years since I saw them in anything but how could I not recognize Meatloaf and Barry Bostwick?!

Brit line of the episode; "I'm going as a peanut allergy."
