Im a 5 year vet....love this game and the community.....these boards have been helpfull time and time again...

Im asking for a different kind of advice this time.....a new gaming computer rig advice...

I only play COX and nothing ...so this new comp is soley going to be used for this game...so if it helps please keep that in mind..

Just recieved a $1000 bonus from work so this is a pre christmas "you da man" gift to me...

Yes..that is the limit...please try not to creep over that amount...for some reason the wife winces when it climbs over that magical number...my aggro is lessened if we dont reach it..

Ok...here is my first stab at it..(and please stay with www.newegg.com)...and I already have a monitor...its a beauty...

AlSo check out Father Xmas's signature. Some good stuff there. If you don't mind self assembly.

Also you can't link to your shopping cart for others to see since it's under your account. Also true if you make a saved wish list but with a link to that I (and others) can finagle it into a public wish list so we can look at it.

Also, as of this post, with the rebates availalbe, the $1300 rig is down to $1191, which you can take off $120 if you don't need a new copy of Win7 (64bit) or a new disc drive (not sure if you are cannibalizing an older computer) - you can also save some money that way if you are reusing a hard drive, although make sure you have the right connections - it has only one IDE/PATA connection, so 2 devices with that style of connection max.

Well I ignore any sales and rebates when picking plus I leave a bit of a buffer, which last year got eaten up by the DDR2 price surge. This year DDR3 prices are dropping since I made that list as well as the recent price war between ATI and nVidia once the 460 came out.

Then you have the new shininess of some of my picks have worn off, such as the 1TB Caviar Black drive for a mere $88, I think it was around $110 when I first added it and the CM690 II Advance was around $130. They just aren't as sexy anymore.

Im apologize for my unusable link...and for posting in the wrong place...

Thanks for all of the responses anyway....very helpfull..

One more question....

Is ATI better than Nvidia?.... I just remember all the trouble i had with ATI and city of heroes being compatable....( i noticed COX has ATI now advertised so i guess its true)..

Thanks again for all of your help....

In this game, simply don't know. In general, well...

A stock clock HD 5850 tends to be faster (~8-9%) than a stock clock GTX 460 1MB card. There are some games where the GTX 460 is faster.

The card in my high end parts list is a stock clock HD 5850. That GTX 460 1MB you linked to has a slight factory overclocked (720MHz Vs 675MHz) which in practical terms about 5% higher performance than stock.

So a virtual toss up in general. However if you consider the price (the GTX 460 is very inexpensive right now) plus the fact it can you PhysX in other games, sadly not CoH/V it's not a bad choice overall. Note that current scuttlebutt is the aggressive price of the 1GB GTX 460 is only going to be good for another two weeks or so act fast.
