I thought Lost had some huge guys too, aside from the Warwolves or Ancestor spirits for instance. Would be nice if that means we'll get the TV-helmet, though.
  2. The numbers game is fun to me. The one running it all behind a shiny GUI - the rules are not particularly complicated. With tools like Mid's available for helping with calculations the game has become to get an idea for a concept, pinning the numbers on what it *should* do and then acquire what's needed to actually see your idea in play.

Having done the regular content so many times, watching ideas spring to life is more fun and more rare to me than say a task force, a completed story arc or that cave with Council that you just cleared out that now contains boatloads of Circle of Thorns since you turned your back for a second.

The methods of having that idea brought to life takes a lot more invested time than level to 50, for instance, if you only play the numbers game with the pretty GUI. If that's what you enjoy, the only way to make the trip shorter while still entertaining is to increase the ratio of rewards over time unit invested. Everything becomes the means to an end, to finally beat that numbers game.

That's why I find myself running tips and task forces a lot of the time I'm in-game even if there are a lot of fun stuff to do in the AE that are more related to story-telling. There will be time for those things once the numbers game has been completed for the characters I bother to take it up with.
  3. Thank you for the input, everyone. I'll stick with the Expedient Reinforcement I have in there.

It is. Although I've had to resort to the market for a few enhancement for each alt, the 50-builds I've been working on are mostly from drops and lucky rolls, aside from trading with friends. I've had to give up on exemplaring builds in general, though.

Last time I did a calculation of merits needed to finish a specific exemplaring build it turned out as having to play the arcs available in the game 7.5 times heroside in terms of merits needed to purchase desired sets for a 50 aiming to keep bonuses from levels 29 and onward - this of course excluding purples, PvP-IO's and HamiO which are attained either by extreme luck or participating in set activities, respectively. A-merits would fortunately cut this somewhat if I made the calculation again for that specific build, but it still means a lot of time invested playing to fit out a single character the way I as a player want it to function. From the perspective of finishing builds in this manner, the in-game drop mechanics are very poorly designed.

This also begs the question, how large percentage of the player-base actually participate in set/high-end stuff being moved around on the market and slotting it? And furthermore, how many give up on finishing builds because everything is out of reach when playing the superhero game they subscribed to instead of the market add-on game?
  6. Your numbers are off a bit, Blasters got a damage buff a while back so Corruptor base damage is about 2/3 of Blaster base damage. Still, can't go wrong with a corruptor or defender.
  7. Unfortunately, Sonic blast has pretty poor AoE damage and Traps will easily break the sleep with both Acid mortar and Caltrops being DoT's. While the Sonic blast set does elevate single target damage readily and AoE damage for teams, I personally wouldn't consider it the go-to set for soloing large groups. Anything with *two* decent damage AoE's will do it better; Dark blast has the advantage of being able to immobilize spawns in the Traps area with one of the two cones the set brings. However, both Sonic blast and Dark blast can only fit 10 targets within their cones.

Dual pistols is also nice, since you can go for 5x Positron's blast (including proc) together with another proc in both Empty Clips and Bullet Rain, together with Obliteration (including proc) and Scirocco's dervish proc in a fast-recharging no-crash nuke. Still, your staple attacks up for every spawn includes a 10-target cone and the better 16-target Bullet Rain.

To get more targets in the fast-recharging AoE powers I'd go Electrical blast, 5x Positron's blast (including proc) together with Javelin volley proc and Short circuit with 5x Armageddon (again including proc) together with either Scirocco's dervish proc or Gladiator's Fury, if you want to add a chance for -Resistance. That's two 16-target AoE's ready to go very often in a recharge-intensive build that would benefit your primary as well.

Basically, it boils down to how you like to play. I can only say that during my time going with Traps/Assault Rifle to 50 and still *at* 50, I've often wanted to have Dark Blast instead. Much less resisted damage type, a great damage/immobilize power and two cones with a low base recharge that can take two or more procs each.

I'd say stick with the character, try to get some proc's and don't pull the enemies - that can potentially waste precious proc's on just a couple of enemies of a full x8 spawn just because they happened to get close first. Just toss in seekers in the middle of a spawn and follow shortly after yourself with a proc'ed Acid mortar, drop the proc'ed Poison gas trap directly and jump out for proc'ed out tenebrous/caltrops/night fall/tenebrous - the enemies should just melt away before you.
  8. My Traps defender has Assault Rifle for concept. It's decent, with the safety of traps you can mow down +1x8 with no bosses to keep some momentum. No trip mines, just toss in Seekers and start planting traps before slinging cones around.

Actually, Dark blast should work very well with traps. Tenebrous tentacles to keep everything locked in your traps area, and make sure to proc everything up. I like two damage procs in Acid mortar, two in Poison gas trap, at least one in both Tenebrous Tentacles and Night Fall aside from the standard damage slotting. With Tenebrous you could even toss a couple damage procs into Caltrops and chuckle as free damage ticks in every 10 seconds without stuff being able to try to run out of the patch.

I've procced up my Traps and it's quite noticable since every proc that triggers does the damage of a well-slotted tier 1 defender blast. As I find it for Defenders, Chance for x Damage actually gives you a chance to deal damage together with the Vigilance change that helped somewhat.
  9. I'm looking over the build of my main, and this is the only power that I'm not sure whether to keep the current slotting or change. So, for Voltaic Sentinel, should I keep Expedient Reinforcement (4 slots) with small mez resist, 3% damage and 6,25% recharge or move to the Call to Arms set and get 2% Recovery, 1.5% hit points and again 6,25% recharge?

The switch would mean losing some slotted damage in the power - but it's mostly used solo anyway, when I have the 30% damage bonus from Vigilance, not to mention that I should achieve perma-AM again with the planned build (taking alpha-slots into account) adding to the overall damage output. I don't need the recovery and hit points, but I feel they might be a better option than a meager mez resist and a damage bonus overshadowed by Accelerate Metabolism.

So, opinions? The four slots are all this power is getting, by the way.

    New SG Badge?

If you're still on Virtue server, I'd like to go for a Faathim the Kind later to see if what I posted is correct or not. I should be free in about six hours from this post, if that's convenient to you. Should be able to grab a couple of friends so we'd have half a team.

    New SG Badge?

    I'd assume the same thing, but how can that badge be at 32% if it's for 5 defeats? If that's the case, it could only stay at 0% - 20% - 40% - 60% - 80% - 100%

Funny thing is that 32% would make sense if the badge counter stopped at 32/80, since that'd be 40% (2/5) and correspond to something divisible by 5.

It's puzzling. I can conjure a couple of explanations, but it'd be guesswork at best. I guess it's time to do the TF to see if the bar moves at all. If it does I'm guessing it'll hop to 48%, then 64% and finally award the badge at what should be a total of 80%.

    New SG Badge?

Already have the Scorpion's Surprise in my SG, so that's not it.

    New SG Badge?

This is interesting, I have the exact same issue. With no Cathedral of Pain runs on that SG the only one that seems to fit is the Lanaru-badge. I still don't get how it could be 32% progress on it, though.

    I hate snow

While the inability to handle a little snow makes me laugh, I'm really sorry the cold got you that bad Thorny Devil. I hope the insurance will cover everything - and if nothing else works, have a few Fjällbäck until you feel warm on the inside.

    Happy holidays!

    Seeker Drones

Anyone else notice that procs got screwed up in Seeker Drones a couple of issues back? I used the Cloud Senses: Chance for damage which, when it hit, would get everyone in that explosion giving me a 0.36 probability of a nice initial damage to a spawn. Now they never trigger. Did they remove the proc function from drones? Sent bug reports several times but nothing has changed.

    I hate snow

Oh, you southerners. Doesn't take much to shut down the continent, or so it seems, same can be said for the southern parts of Sweden. It's a fairly normal winter up here in Umeå albeit a little bit more chilly than usual with -20 along the coast and -35 up where I'm from. Heading up there next week, we'll see if it's a bit warmer then.
  17. They awarded several free respecs recently, since Fitness went from being a selectable power pool to an inherent. I don't know how that has affected inactive accounts, if yours was recently activated, but try the /respec command to see if you have a token available.

The build looks pretty good in my opinion, although Tactics is probably supposed to hold end cost reducers instead of recharge. It's a good starting build for someone trying out radiation, I'm sure you'll get some ideas along the way on how you want your character to perform once you introduce inventions and get comfortable with them.

Four recharge in Lingering Radiation is a bit much, since ED will hit the fourth very hard. Change it to an end cost reducer, perhaps. I'd also change the end cost i Dreadful wail to a recharge, it's on a very slow timer.

Welcome back to the game, and have fun!
  18. That's a good starting build, especially so considering that you're a new player!

Skip Siren's Song and get Howl, preferrably where you have Mutation now. The -resistance from it will help team take down groups faster, together with the damage you add with it while a short range sleep won't help much at all.

Mutation can only be used if a teammate is already dead, meaning you get a decent endurance discount through the Defender inherent Vigilance - I prefer putting a recharge in that power if I take it at all.

EMP is a very long hold as it is, the two slots for hold duration might be overkill compared to end cost.

Tactics will need more end cost reduction, the Leadership pool toggles are a bit expensive. I prefer two end cost reducers in them myself.

With the inherent Fitness freespecs, you can fit in Super speed at a fairly early level if you want to. While travelling has become a non-issue in the game, some like to have a travel power. My main since more than six years has gotten around just fine with Sprint alone, but the stealth from Super Speed can be helpful. Also, grabbing something like Combat Jumping to get some immobilization resistance can be handy.
  19. Very entertaining, looking forward to issue #3.
  20. Sonic resonance is the least seen defender primary, yeah. Fun to see another player with a Sonic resonance/Psychic blast posting here, haven't seen that combo on anyone beside the one I'm playing before. What are you aiming at with your build?
  21. Bah, got caught dodging snail trails at the Christmas party. Still about half an hour away from home if you haven't already done the trial.
  22. I'll check with some of the people I usually hang out with, they should have a raid-ready base or I can provide one. Tonight would work for me, I think. Thank you for providing your time and knowledge!
  23. I'm looking to do this trial as well, global handle @Evilmeister - what channels should I monitor for this event? Being in Europe, early Monday mornings are unfortunately not an option for events like this so I hope it'll be during Fridays/Saturdays.

I apologize for being unclear; what I meant was that applying a single AoE intangibility targetted on an arch-villain shouldn't actually phase him while the minions should be out of action. I could've phrased it better.
  25. Still haven't gotten this badge, but I assume stuff like Dimension Shift and Black Hole would affect the minions if you target the AV. Having him go intangible shouldn't be a problem at all. Aside from those, is Force bubble or other powers with repel the only answer? Repulsion field on stationary pets like acid mortar, stuff like that? Would be neat if those odd-ball powers finally got a niche, but if been tried and shown to be ineffective I won't try those approaches.
