    The Response

This isnt for everyone so I implore you, if you are still hurting hard, please please dont read any further. I'm just sharing my thoughts on the situation and not trying to cause extra hurt.

The situation-NCSoft rejects negotiation plan. No telling what the reason is, as they didnt say. Yet I think Nov. 30th will really be the end of the COX in this format and fashion. Well it was fun while it lasted and hope people can enjoy the rest of it if they can. Some may not be ready to just yet or tryign to play brings up too many bad memories.

I think the NCSoft announcement came at a perfect time. With the anxious waiting for a reply or update, well they finally gave it. It wasnt a reply many people was wishing for, but given most said they knew it was a slim chance then the most probable thing just happened naturally. AKA we didnt get lucky. Of course I seen this coming a mile away but now it's just not me being a pessimist. It happened. Now the way it looks, looks like the effort is in shock mode right now and I think in a few days, they will get back on track.

I guess a new game will be in the works or something underground and hopefully not illegal that is similar to COX. How similar? Time will tell and with time maybe at leasta few years to get everything together over there.

You know how they say hindsight is 20/20. Now it is now. I think while some people ejoyed the relatively small community here, I think it may been part of our undoing. From the updates that came pretty fast, to the talent of the devs and everythign else normal that goes into running a game, it takes a lot of money. With that money, they threw updates, Going rogue, freedom, and just about everything they could at it and the overall population didnt budge much. One thing they seemed to forgot was advertising. I guess it's standard rule in the MMO world that only giants like WoW is allowed to advertise.

One thing I think this game had going for it that I think advertising would pay for itself quickly is that it's not just another fairy/elf/wizard fantasy game that is everywhere. It's not a pure grind fest. It's not "you choose one of the pre made characters and go." No, there were many unique features that this game had that wasnt found in many games. The players didnt seem to push the game, including me, tht much either. Seeing how they can get the word out, know people that know people, and stuff now to save the game, I can only wonder one thing. If they could have been doing that all this time why oh why didnt we do this from the get go? Why did we had to wait until NCSoft made a decision to shutdown the game, with slim chance of changing their minds to do all of this and get the word out about this game? Would it have saved the game from shutting down? Maybe or maybe not. But I cant help to think that if instead of 100,000 players or less if we had closer to 1 million, would NCSoft really be that froggy? If 100,000 was bringing in supposedly 800/month. ten times that much is 8 million. I dont think even NCSoft would be that nuts to shut that down. I might be wrong.

Well what happened has happened and there is nothing we can do about that. All we can do now is either move forward in some form or fashion. Some will continue the fight, some will not, some was waiting for a message like this to determine whether they would stick around or not.

I must say though I'm going to play the wait and see with this new game being developed. By the time it's done, I hope people still remember it and this time new players are encouraged to join, including pvp, and the word get out about the game a little bit more than the lack of ad budget that NCSoft seemed to have given Paragon studios.

I may not agree with Titan Network's philosophy and borderline fanatic thought process and stuff but they seem to have talent over there and I think they can and probably will pull it off what ever they aim to do. Never know, ten years from now, Titan Network might be the next big gaming studio and might even become a serious threat to giants like Blizzard (that is a compliment because when a big company view you as a threat that means you are doing something proper). Even when this game goes down into the game graveyard, I dont think we have heard the last of Titan Network.

Heck, you could probably offer NC 50 mil, and they wouldn't take it. CoH, Tabula, Exteel, Auto Assault... NC does indeed hold the title of 'Destroyer of Worlds' .

Look, I will admit next to the next person that CoH was showing its age, for the past month I have been choking this area's bandwidth downloading other MMO's to try out, and some of them are simply beauitful, next to the grey lackluster zones like Kings Row, though I would consider Praetoria up to par, but making the rest of the game look like that would be a huge effort.
But where it counted, CoH was solid, on NO other game have I found teaming as easy to follow as on CoH.

Having said that, there is no excuse for what they did and how they did it. Put me in the boat of not giving NC another cent of my money, I'm sure if I get involved in ANY other game like CoH, it'll just be taken away again.

Now, TonyV... about those private servers...
yea, they just did what they normally did, about what 4-5 times already.

Not sure how private servers will work without the IP (maybe someone can explain) and without getting sued and or shutdown.

True. Come to think of it, I think in buisness it's considered bad form to bring up money immediately. Well hell then, now things are much clearer or I can see in a sensible way that it went downhill quick because negotiations can end with a few volley of statements when it comes to money. "I'll give you 5 million for it." "Nope I want 20 million." "I only have 5." "Well it was a pleasure of talking to you, maybe we can work something out in the future." Shake hands and that's the end of it just like that.

In terms of legal liability, the question for the courts will be whether there exists a reasonable expectation the computer systems will perform adequately. If they don't, manufacturers may be liable just as they are now for any other system in the car. If they do and an unpredictable failure occurs, that would probably be no different than any other such failure. If computer control accidentally runs someone over, that will probably be no different legally than if your brakes fail and you run over someone. The questions will revolve around whether you maintained them reasonably well and there were any other contributing factors.
yea except with brake failure especially the ones of the mechnical kind it' pretty simple to recreate the symptoms in a setting and or look and see. Computer they can glitch run someone over and then the proof is gone that there was a malfunction in the first place.
  12. I just want to know what happened with the talks. First there was posts about things going well; be patient things are going well; hey, they re making headway in the talks keep it up; the talks are looking good... and then, crash and burn. I mean wouldnt both parties of the talks would have seen that coming as the talks went on. Unless they were going well and one party said something of the likes, "Ok I'll call you. DONT CALL ME!! I'll call you." then followed it up the next morning with, "we are declining your offer."

Ever negotiated with someone and you can tell when things are not working out even before the talks ends? Or maybe just me.

    Possible.

Not many hard facts to go on so that is entirely just as possible as the rest of the theories out there.

All we have was announcement to close game, something about talks, something about talks going very well even though in hindsight, guess they wasnt going that well, refund stuff, talks fell through.. that's about it and some of those are basically second or more hand talks.

I'd mail this to a Google engineer now and get my name on the idea, but I don't know any. ;p
Interesting. I think this liabilty thing will cause a set back of about 5-10 years as they work it out. Or a few million into the pocket of the "right politician" and that may cut the time down to a 1-3 year setback.

SERIOUSLY, STOP LISTENING TO NCSOFT. THE REDNAMES ARE BEING FED THIS CRAP FROM THE PR GUYS.

    Go. Go be constructive.

Just as importantly, READ THIS remark about the statement from Mercedes Lackey (Victoria Victrix) and her husband:

And if you're sitting here on these forums feeling bummed about this and nothing else, you're NOT helping the situation. Defeatist attitudes are complete BS!
Yea I'm doing what I can to help the cause but it wont be under the banner of Titan. While I try to direct my efforts to compliment theirs instead of working against, the overall environment over there dont seem to appreciate anything that is considering if things dont go well unless of course it comes from TonyV or VV. Then it's ok to be real about the situation but never before those two not to mention the plan is still in chaos over there and seem to be waiting on a miracle to happen. Just my take no meaning of harm or insult to anyone. Titan is just not for me.

This, however, is a case of a long-time MMO being abruptly and arbitrarily sunsetted, even while it was generating a solid profit. There isn't exactly a huge number of MMORPG games as old as CoH to begin with, but those in that group tend to have stood the test of time.
    Makes sense.

If are going to approach in this manner, maybe we should make sure that Paragon Studios in itself was raking in a profit and COX was not mere collateral damage. This may have already been done.

Then it's time to decide what approach is proper without coming off as being soley ticked off about them not selling the IP or the negotiations failing. I know that isnt what it's about but if it comes off in that manner then it will be dismissed as "Oh they are just gamers. There is no way we can expect them to know about buisness. Pay them no mind. Send out another message that says we are listening to to them and taking their opinion into consideration so they can shut up."

The approach must make them go "Hmmm." And while people may be angry and want to get back at them, and stick it to The Man, it wont help besides coming off as raging lunatics that probabaly would make them not want to bother with the community and make their decision stick even more so and feel even better about their decision. There is a thin line between coming off as passionate about something and really want them to listen and coming off as a bunch of raging lunatics that cant be reasoned with either way.

And now I'm not gonna be able to do any of that. No amount of protesting from me will do any amount of good.

At least with Sim City 4, it's not only got a great online community, but even though EA hasn't supported the game for years, I can still actually play the darned thing to my heart's content! No need for an Internet connection either. If I want to socialize, well... that's why I play the game in windowed mode, and why I keep up my browser and my AIM. So there. lol

As far as social games go though, I'll probably stick with Magic the Gathering. If Hasbro ever decided to stop publishing the game, they're not going to send agents to my house to take back every card I've collected over the years.
Yea I still play sim city 4 from time to time.

And keep an eye out of those serious looking guys in black suits, shades and a wire sticking out their ear. They are watching. They are always watching...just staring...

Well anyways, it was nice to have you around but maybe you cna get a few to 50 and incarnate before you go. The game is still up right now if between now and the 30th you feel up to it.
