  1. oh, bring back debt in all its fear inducing glory. i miss my pal.
  2. Events list in the city info terminals where players can post events and teams can post their requests for members as well as what teams have spaces etc.

Option to have wings fold smaller so they dont obscure the view from behind the character.

Enhancement storage much like the salvage vault storage.

salvage (base) and components that sell for influence but are translated to prestige from the auction house/black market instead of inf.
  3. A quick idea:

back in the early days when we still had the 5th column, I remember the takeover stage and the columns (no pun intended) of soldiers that would jog through atlas park causing my blaster to requrie a change of costume bottoms and a purple blur moved toward him.

I still remember seeing a high level hero stepping in an dtackling the problem and being very impressed indeed.

So, what I was thinking was, how to recapture that for other players, what exactly about that made it memorable and whats missing with zones as they stand ?

    my thoughts:
zones as they stand are essentially safe. I know that at 8th level I can run through atlas park without having to worry. My blaster entered founders falls at 32nd level and got creamed instantly by a sniper... (git!), now, at 47 he can stroll through. However, i know that Eden etc are still dangerous nad I get a thrill when I make a foray in there.

    What made the event memorable?
Well, I think it was acombination of "AAAAaaaaaaaah" followed by "[censored]" followed by "ooooh, cool".
What were purples doing in Ap where I was safe? There was no warning. just another day at the office and suddenly everyone was running in fear.

enough foundation and flavour methinks. the suggestion:

A hacker. yes, a nerd/geek/otaku hacker. no-one knows who he is or where he's operating from or what he wants even but they do knwo he's causing a lot of trouble. his favourite sport seems to be shutting down security posts allowing free passage for creatures from one zone to another.

Skulls and hellions from Perez can invade AP or Galaxy City. Kings row CoT cna have a quick hunt in AP, Eden unmentionables can wander into Founders falls, etc.

Of course, only those closest to the gate will go through , emaning that the biggest and nastiest wont be causing trouble.

A timer could be put on the security measures so that they come back up and cut off any more incursions and after an hour, longbow teams or PPD send out squads to take down the intruders (running street battles FTW!).

Picture hoards of Tuatha pouring out of the train station in Steel canyon and making a beeline straight for the magical store or better yet, the CoT sacred site in the top right corner . Panic! Running! screaming!

To make things more exciting, there are no announcements saying that its happening but security drones do shut down a few minutes before hand.

Once over, and the drones power up again, the hacker can send a taunting message hinting at what he wants (and not just the right to take his shirt off at the beach and have those not blinded by his pasty whiteness call out sightings of an uncooked chicken!).
  4. Should these not sell for prestige instead of Inf ?

That way, if all the components get swiped from a base and sold in the auction house or the black market, they benefit the SG and not the thief ? (I know, an extreme example)

They could possibly still be bought for inf but the seller receives an appropriate amount of prestige instead (it is 1:500 infrestige ?) rounded down.

the trade inf to prestige ratio would stop it from being exploited by SG members selling their own gear to themselves as a converter (make the conversion ratio less desireable than than the current one in the town hall)

thought on why this wouldnt work ?
  5. well, there are examples of costume derived bonuses in comic book culture

Batman: respirator addition for protection against gases
Armoured suit used to beat the snot out of superman
    Azrael's armoured batman outfit

Spidermans costume developed by Stark industries (additional arms, gas filters , radar etc

Iron mans multiple versions of his suit

I like this idea if they were customisable so that there weren't look-alikes.

a more complex option could be

    recipe: costume enhancement slot
when used you select a costume section within a costume slot and assign an enhancement slot into it. A maximum of 6 slots can be assigned to a particular section (large) or 2 to a smaller section.

    Recipe: costume enhancement
can be used to enhance costume parts

Recipe/reward: pre slotted costume parts (Armageddon Cloak : made from meterial forged in the furnace of a nuclear blast, this cloak grants the wearer 5% fire resistance). the cloak can be tailored just like any other cloak but once set , it cannot be changed. if it is changed, you lose the resistance.

    Recipe: costume part wardrobe slot:
a slot to store created / slotted costume parts for future use or for retirement.

this way, you get the benefits of slotting enhancements (minor ones) and retain customisation and diversity. you can store items for future use (items cannot be sold , superman never sold his trusty red y fronts for example).

of course, there would have to be a downside, like retaining the current 30 second delay for costume changes.

    just a suggestion.
  6. I like blasters

    I like thorns

win / win as far as I'm concerned

could we keep on the topic please!. good discussion but better put in their own posts! So what would you like to see?

    point taken.

I gave my opinion on what I would like to see, namely merged worlds between hero and villain. I gave how I thought it could come about but at this stage it is descending into an argument. Last word from me on this topic. to Vox and Max, I apologise if I have in some way offended you with my suggestion. Ultimately what will happen is up to the devs.

hush, we could use this post as evidence later if he doesnt rectify it.

ehhh, mr person in charge of NCNC, we were promised 3 updates per month and we havent received them.

of course, such an email would never have to be sent should we find ourselves basking in the contented glow of that feeling you get from knowing that you know. Perhaps oh, i dont know...details of I13?... would promote that feeling ?

Anyway, no matter how it worked, I'd most likely be off with my two subscriptions if there was world PVP too

In your description, a villain could go to Atlas, not doing his mission, wandering up to heroes and going "Yah Boo Sucks To You!" without them being able to do anything about it. That pretty much ruins the RP environment for me...

    [/ QUOTE ]

very nice of you to take other players into account there. nice to see such sharing among gamers. what if I were to take the same stance?

I'll sign up three more subscriptions and then pull them if this isnt brought in! so there!

How about a civilian walking past goes " X hero SUCKS!" can you do anything about it ? does this ruin the game ?
to arrest someone you have to have a reason, not just how they look or where they are from. There's civvies on the rogue isles too you know. does that satisfy roleplaying requirements? out of curiosity, how do the roleplayers justify passing by muggings etc that go on in AP or do you actually stop to save every single victim in the city ? not beign sarcastic, I am geniunely curious.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh can I have a lid for this can of worms please ?
  12. well, when I posted up the idea for a system I did say it was just a suggestion and not to be considered a solution.

the wanted level: could have a lot more levels than those I posted. the levels could determine the level of NPC reaction squads. Also the level of the villain could be taken into account. a level 50 villain in atlas could trigger a response unit of 3 PPD heavy combat suits say level 50 each or 51 (per villain in the group) that use the emergency teleport system to tp in and apprehend the lawbreaker. - for flavour how about they use non-lethal methods and a timer is put on the target, if he doesnt move in x seconds he is considered immobilised and therefore safe, gets tagged and ported to a detention centre.

also, a thought occurred to me. villain thieves. the point is not to have a wanted level but to stay under the radar and still pull off the jobs. this would reward those that are thorough (take out everyhting before it has a chance to raise the alarm) or stealthy (avoid cameras, use stealth/invisibility etc. of course there would have to be magical or technologicla detection systems in place to counter these abilities that the burglar would have to get past). or how about a stalker assassaination mission where you can only alert a maximum of X people to your presence. kill too many and the target gets suspiscious that something is up and goes into hiding, mission failed, you get xp but no inf (payment for the contract).

Why hit debt as a deterrent to griefing ? alternatives that may be possible (and a disclaimer for those who are determined to take offense at the very idea - these are jsut ideas off the top of my head NOT a fully thought out solution)

    1. INF: whoopee, captain wonderful beat up newbie ,c newb. woo. oh look, doctor marvellous defeated the horrible serpent of nastiness. he's cool. inf rewards are based on level vs. level even if it means it goes into the minuses.

    2. prestige: same as above. character can earn negative prestige for his or her sg.

    3. PvP rep: gets reduced

    4. tally of arrests works on a ladder system. defeaing somethign lower is damaging rahter thna rewarding (when taken to the extremes , there would be a safe level range in the middle).

    5. INF/level based entry to zones: level 50s cannot do missions in atlas. they have to do missions somewhere more upscale. of course, they can escape to atlas nad then start the beatings but only if they are attacked first.

To mitigate the 1 vs 50 effect: to make things fairer and not have 50 lvl 50 heroes + ppd bots + longbow all arresting 1 lvl 48 villain. When a hero checks the records to see if a warrant is available he requests a license to take on the suspect.

    Responses:
    PPD are handling this
Longbow have alreay committed , your help is not currently required
    license granted
license granted , be warned suspect is dangerous (higher level)
license granted you may want to bring help (much higher level)
License denied suspect is too powerful. let PPD or a more experienced hero handle this
  13. @Vox: your name: Vox_Doom : Vox = voice , Doom well, doom, probably not a hugely massive leap to assume its in the genitive case meaning "of doom". (technically it should be something closer to vox_fati but my latin is a bit rusty). I was making a joke on the fact that you were among the first to cry DOOOOOOOOM! at the suggestion.

PvP: please read the post before criticising. a level 50 villain cannot walk into Atlas and start stomping on level 1 heroes, I specifically mentioned level 50 and level 1. I also specifically said that in each respective zone only a "home toon" could *initiate* PvP. and even then, only in a certain circumstance. to reiterate my example:

A villain goes to atlas park and picks up a mission. he can walk around all he wants, safe from attack and without the option to attack any hero (with one exception: a SG vs VG grudge which is an always on toggle for aggression so you do actually have the option for pure PvP play via SGs and VGs *IF* that is what you want).

Now, if the villain does his mission and is witnessed (a system would have be worked out for this, perhaps guards in the mission have a perception/reaction time to alert control) he will then e listed on a wanted list at a certain level which lowers over time (a period of no activity emans wanted level drops), pull off a heist, lay low for a bit etc.

Now: if a hero sees a villain, he can right click on the villain nad check if he is on the wanted list. if he is then the hero can make an arrest , in other words initiate PvP IF HE FEELS LIKE IT. The villain can of course defend himself and attack back.

Similarly PPD and Longbow will take interest in villains that have a wanted rating.

Borrowing heavily from GTA: the wanted level can be symbolised by a star rating. the lower the rating , the lower the interest the autorities have in the villain. a quick example of this would be (but this is only to help elucidate , it is not meant to be a working system).

normal: character can use public transport, not wanted by ppd or longbow. nothing to see here folks. Not a valid PvP target.

    * : character can use public transport, PPD will attack on sight, heroes of levels 1 to 5 can attempt to arrest.

**: public transport blocked (an alternative method of zone travel would have to be found , tunnels, teleport etc). PPD will attack and call for backup. Heroes of level 1-10 can attempt to arrest.

***: PPD call for Longbow backup, longbow patrols will attack, heroes of level 10-25 are valid PvP initiators

****: PPD and Longbow call for backup. Villain is actively hutned down. heroes of levels 15-35 can initiate PvP

*****: you've done it now. everything and their dog will be out to get you. open season has begun.

Committing more crimes while having a star rating will up the rating. pausing (laying low) will reduce it. Using a device or service such as a hacker / bribe official or destroy evidence mission will reduce it. perhaps these could be undertaken on another players behalf ? or a mission that has a blanket effect (virus to wipe all wanted levels for all villains currently in the database, virus to randomly re-assign wanted levels ).

Now, PvP would not intrude on everyday player fun if they choose not to take part. For the hero, dont make an arrest. for the villain, dont go to paragon. simple.

As for it being there in the background, you have no problems running aroudn while others heroes plough through gangs of skulls and hellions so why should this be any different. if anything it would be fun to watch and could be quite spectacular.

Just to push the boat out even further into international waters where we can all gamble and drink illegally, newspaper stands could report the highest profile arrests of the previous day for those that click on them. A database could be available through the terminals to show arrest records of heroes and their involvement.

Ganking: if you walk into a pub full of drunk irishmen (I am irish so I cant be accused of being racist for using this ) and shout "all paddys are thick mulchy mother *&##£$ and I can beat the snot out of all of you together" you can expect to be facing off against more than one. same for a villain entering atlas and breakign the law, there will more than likely be more than one hero waiting to give you a good kicking (and a level 1 there to put the boot in when your down just to add insult to injury).

A similar setup would be on the villain side for under-cover heroes.

Disincentive: your rewards for arrests are calculated on a daily basis and the range of opponents arrested comes into play. level 25 hero arrests a level 50 villain with 5 stars, great job. Level 25 hero arrests a level 1 villain with 3 stars, not good, in fact not even noticeable. No xp, no status etc.

A reward would also be given for periods of tiem at a sustained wanted level. Keep five stars up for an hour = good. tiem stops being added as soon as your wanted level begins to drop. sort of like a mayhem mission.
  14. well, issue 12 rumours brought me back to CoX after a period of absence (that and finally hitting my limit of calls of "pwn3d n00b" in Battlefield by a hack using skiddie who snipes a headshot from right across the map.. or worse, getting stabbed in the back, while backed into a corner in the titan repair dock in 2142 by some *&##" using a wall hack).

IMHO: I welcome our I13 overlords and am happy to bask in hteir glory. if its the last FREE issue of this calendar year, fair enough. I'm not going to complain because someone once said they aim to produce three free expansion but only deliver 2 , especially if either of those two are BIG. They're FREE. not like WoW where you have to pay to get an extra dungeon , oh and if you opt not to, you fall so far behind the other players who are playing the new expanded level content and picking up uber items that if PvP is your thing you dont have a chance. Not like Star Wars Galaxies where the whole game gets nerfed to restructure billing plans and make content that was originally planne dto be free a paid for expansion that again, gives the people paying a massive advantage.

So, congrats to NCNC for even putting out one free expansion in a year of so many changes . bad move revealing your desire to release three. And best of luck in the future. from what I can tell, you've got some big plans for the direction of the game and these require some large amounts of groundwork which you are laying now. I'm looking forward to seing whats to come.

IMHO: we'd all be better off ignoring the ign and massive reports and those like it and playing away happily until NCNC release official details.
  15. 1. the existence of magic would suggest fantasy
    2. the number of sword wielding scrappers and hammer wielding tanks woudl also scream fantasy to me
    3. the enemies such as red caps, tuatha de dannan and firbolg are definitely fantasy based.

    4. being very much golden age and four colour influenced, time travel is a huge part of the genre of CoH (works of wells and verne were huge influences on classic hero storylines)

    5. X-men : jean grey and scott summers went forward to an alternate time when apolacypse ruled. their sone Nate travelled back as did bishop and forge (or was that cable?). A huge part of x-men universe was the alternate timeline where magneto ran the x-men because of a time travelling mishap that resulted in xaviers death.

    6. X-men and new mutants travelled to Asgard in the asgardian wars, which was very much fantasy based

dont know much about DC comics unfortunately.

However: the Authority have had time travel (midnighter goes to the future briefly)

basically to saythat time travel has no place in a superhero based game is imho wrong.

to say that CoH/CoV is sci-fi and not fantasy is also imho wrong.

    just my .02 euro.
  16. one thing I would love is to have guide lines in my high tech base. you know the lines on the walls or floor that lead to particular rooms or objects that you can follwo to get around.

anyways. thanks for the replies. muchly appreciated. I think I'll continue to play about until I13 comes out....
  17. ganking:

limit the level of interaction between the two sides (a level 50 cannot initiate a fight against a level 1 for example. if a level 1 starts on a level 50, well thats his problem and he fully deserves the resultant planting).

the villain (in this scenario) would have to be on a register of offenders to be a legitimate target so random ganks are out.

Hospital camping: put villain hospital in an underground bunker that heroes cannot access, have multiple exits (its actually a tap into the hero emergency teleport system).

Yes, heroes can camp outside the exits, but it would be considerably harder than a single hospital, also, if the wanted level drops in the meantime the villain will not be pvp-able unless he/she elects to be.

Villains defeated by a hero while wanted would find themselves in a longbow security facility that htey then have to escape from (this facility is also raidable by villains to free their comrades in crime, a form of raid mission with a reward for each viallain beyond the mission objective they break out). Additional missions could be run to delete a villain from the criminal database (or a temporary power could be used) to clear a wanted level.

    World PvP:
There are also people who have posted that if PvP is not fully introduced their subs will go. There will always be someone threatening to pull their subs if they dont get what they want. IMHO, I dont see this as a threat in any way shape or form (sorry Vox, no offence meant) after the first ten times I have read this form of response it just gets old. Vox is one person, I would not take his reaction to signify "a large number" of players , and in all honesty the name, Vox_Doom sort of says it all really

Yes it is a FORM of world PvP. you cant integrate the two communities and not expect some form of conflict (conflict between two playable character by definition = PvP). However,

If you play a hero and dont want Pvp:
    a. dont track down villains
    b. dont go to the rogue isles

and you still get the game you are playing now

    similarly for villains:
    a. dont track heroes
    b. dont play in the paragon

    In the meantime:

an alternative startign path for heroes (perhaps as a longbow operative)

an alternative starting path for villains (no more snakes !!! yay!)

the ability to make trips into the other side, will help straighten out the disparity between AH and BM.

Missions can be of a whole new flavour in a whole new setting (from a characters point of view).

More of the understory for each side can be explored and developed

Co-op missions will be much more accessible if players want to go that way

PvP will be there *if you want it*

Could be a new Co title, CoS , City of Subterfuge

anyway, not 100% thought out but thats the one thing I would chance. If you want PvP , its there, all the time, if you dont, play somewhere safer , option is there. if you want danger but not always PvP, play a villain in the city tryign to keep a low profile until you are powerful enough to do something about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So what you're basically suggesting is... World PvP. Yeah, that'd be the death of this game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not a huge fan of PvP myself so no, what I am suggesting is world integration which, by the very nature of the characters would lead to conflict which would be settled by PvP. But, and its a big but, it *is* optional.

PvP in paragon can only be initiated by heroes and pvp in rogue isles can onyl be initiated by villains for example.

as I said, not 100% thought out but the title did say if you could change anything... well the one thing I would change is the seperation of heroes from villains geographically speaking

anyway, not being a fan of PvP doesnt mean I wouldnt like to see a good hero vs villain battle take place in atlas park!

the rogue island invasion at the end of coV beta testing was great fun (if somewhat laggy)
  19. I've tried a bit of research but cant find the answer (possibly going blind or just being a muppet) so I thought I'd ask here.

I got my main alt to ouroboros using a portal from another player.

My question is, how do I get there without having to use another players portal ?

can anyone point me in the right direction for both heroes and villains ?
  20. I would go further with the merger of CoV and CoH, i'd have heroes able to fight crime as renegades in the rogue isles and villains able to further their agenda away from arachnos in paragon (seriously, they are all chosen ones! surely there's another route to power other than directly at recluse himself!)

to this end I would have heroes and villains mix in paragon and rogue isles.

Heroes are targetted by securtiy in rogue isles, villains are targetted by longbow and PPD in Paragon: with a catch.

Your wanted rating depends on your level and the amount of inf/prestige you have earned through your career. Earn enough and every person will know who you are and be out to get you (or steer clear if they're wimps but they would report you to the authorities). This way, heroes and villains would naturally gravitate back to their respective zones or move to co-op zones as the resistance gets tougher.

PvP: in paragon as an example: A villain pulls off a robbery, police witness this and give chase, a radio alert is automatically calle din and a warrant put out for the villains arrest making him a legitimate PvP target for 15 minutes, after this time, the character returns to normal, non-pvp status.

A hero witnesses a robbery by a villain, right click on villain and "check for record" - if its there, hte villain is a legitimate PvP target. If not, hero can report him. enough reports in a period of time and the villain goes on the longbow wanted list, huntable by heroes for X period of time or until defeated.

Hero-Players can have long running battles with villain-playing friends. SGs can have a weighted hatred for a VG (auto PvP on between the two groups) etc.

anyway, not 100% thought out but thats the one thing I would chance. If you want PvP , its there, all the time, if you dont, play somewhere safer , option is there. if you want danger but not always PvP, play a villain in the city tryign to keep a low profile until you are powerful enough to do something about it.

  22. just read up on flashback missions. I was under the impression that you had a choice to play anywhere in the 44-46 range of the contact, or that you had to start at 44 because thats where the mission arc starts.

glad to see I was mistaken and thanks for the clarification.

    @lostninja:

could be almost like Justice Not Law, the Champions (sorry!) expansion for vigilante, non-super heroes. You make everything tougher in comparison to the player to simulate the characters lower power level. Wouldnt work if they played alongside other heroes playing normal difficulty.

actually, I'd love to see a lesser powered game , City of Vigilantes. main enemies are skulls and hellions (maybe clockwork), running alongside CoH and CoV. (CoV would have streets gangs in paragon city while CoH would have vigilantes in the rogue isles).
  24. sorry, havent run a mission through ouroboros yet so I was unsure what level it would run at. I'm assuming that you start at an effective level of 40 because thats the level the ARC starts at.
