It's a decent idea and I like it, but not as a way to deal with thieves - for the latter I think we just need better controls as to who can access certain base stores - at the moment it's all or nothing (you can deny storage use to a rank, but not certain store types).
I would think that this would incite thieves even more as prestige is harder to get then inf.
thieves was probably a wrong example. I was really just thinking why should base items sell for inf instead of prestige. after all, the base item benefits the SG so shouldnt it also benefit it when sold ?

Why? It's not like they can take it with them after their theft and subsequent removal from the SG (either leaving, or being booted), unlike inf.

Seconded.
We got wiped out of base salvage by an ex-member a while ago, basically because we wanted everyone to have access to the insp-bins.
Now it's nothing until first promotion. No insps and no enhancements, certainly no salvage.
I would definately go along with this as part of a major Base overhaul.

Said theives -could- swipe the salvage, then either leave and join a friend's SG to get the Prestige there or pass it on to said friend.

That way, if all the components get swiped from a base and sold in the auction house or the black market, they benefit the SG and not the thief ? (I know, an extreme example)
They could possibly still be bought for inf but the seller receives an appropriate amount of prestige instead (it is 1:500 inf
the trade inf to prestige ratio would stop it from being exploited by SG members selling their own gear to themselves as a converter (make the conversion ratio less desireable than than the current one in the town hall)
