Thorns Proliferated for Blasters?

It would be good if thorns got proliferated for blasters as a primary and secondary, may of the powers from both spines and thorns can be used to match all of the effects used in both powersets aswell as some new ones:


THORNY ATTACK

1) Thorny Darts
2) Thorny Pikes* (slow, Lethal/Toxic)
3) Fling Thorns
4) Aim
5) Tranq Thorn* (Sleep, Lethal/Toxic DoT)
6) Thorn Spear* (Lethal/Toxic Sniper)
7) Thorn Barrage
8) Thorn Burst
9) Rain of Thorns* (lethal/toxic AoE DoT)

THORNY MANIPULATION

1) Impale
2) Barb Swipe^
3) Quills^
4) Lunge
5) Build Up
6) Thorny Cage* (Lethal/Toxic DoT hold)
7) Ripper
8) Thorntrops
9) Thorn Assault* (Lethal/Toxic DoT)

*New Powers, others should be looked up on the Paragonwiki
^Powers that need renaming from Spines to Thorns


If this became a Blaster powerset in the near future, then We'd finally get a Toxic blaster, and if you would like to offer up any replacement for the New(*) powers, be my guest

Sure, I'm not so sure about "Rain of Thorns" though? Shouldn't the thorns originate from the character - i.e. be a pbaoe nuke?

Are there any Plant Control powers that could be borrowed for Thorn Manipulation? It's all a bit attack heavy IMO.

Its basically like rain of arrows, only you fire up a whole bunch of thorns that will land on the ground or enemy and shatter into splinters to cause extra damage

Not really, the thorns powersets focus on launching thorns at foes or around foes, it wouldnt work for any Plant powers

Thorny manipulation needs work. It's all a bunch of melee attacks and nothing else really.

that cant be right. It has 4 melee powers: Ripper, Lunge, Barb swipe and thorn burst, the others are either ranged holds or AoE

If you think this is all melee, then you havnt seen the energy manipulation set.

I think maybe Thorn Assault and Plant Manipulation would be a lot easier to create.

Energy Manipulation has Power Boost and Boost Range, but even 6 attacks is rather a lot on top of a primary which is all attacks. You have 8 out of 9 powers which are attacks - 16 attacks is way to many for any build.

Was just wondering if a team-support power has a place on a Blaster - it's usually self-buffs only, unless I'm just failing to remember something.
That's just me, though.

Well, Plant manipulation is too much like Plant Control, I had Thorn Manipulation so it was like Psi, it wasnt Mind control, but Mental Minipulation.

If there are too many attacks then I'll make Thorn Cage no damage, just hold and replace Thorn Assault with Thorn Needle, No damage, but injects a poison that reduces endurance.

Maybe tweaked so that instead of a click it's a PBAoE toggle ala Hot Feet from Fire Manipulation

And personally I don't think Spirit Tree would fit in a Blaster secondary unless it was changed to only effect the Blaster but buff Regeneration and Recovery, like a summonable Drain Psyche.

Other than that, a very good idea which shows there are still people out there with original suggestions

Thankyou Kindly Commander_Beet, I see that the carron creepers is vines or roots, so if it was thorns Poking through the ground repetedly, it would make alot more sense and work very well, alot like hot feet.

Oooo! Can anyone have a go a this?

Here's the sort of thing I'd expect to see( plus a couple of things I'd like to see )

Thorn Blast

1) Thorny Darts
2) Thorny Spears* (single target ranged, moderate lethal/dot toxic, -def)
3) Fling Thorns
4) Sweeping Spears* (cone knockback, minor lethal/ dot toxic)
5) Thorn Barrage
6) Aim
7) Impale
8) Hail of Thorns* (aoe ranged, moderate dot lethal/toxic, chance of knockdown, -def)
9) Needle Storm* (pbaoe, extreme lethal/dot toxic, immobilise)

Thorns is most likely not to have a sniper power, but instead have more utility effects not unlike sonic and ice.
Hence Hail of Thorns; which should work similarly to the Freezing Rain power, but with a shorter duration, less debuffing and slightly improved damage.

Creatively, I see nothing wrong with the concept of firing a whole bunch of thorns in the air at once and watching them fall to the ground. I just didn't see them doing as much damage as a nova.


Thorn Manipulation

1) Entangle
2) Skewer
3) Thorn Burst
4) Puncture* (single target melee, high lethal/dot toxic, -def)
5) Build Up
6) Quills
7) Thorntrops
8) Sap* (single target melee, foe -end - recovery -regen (-recharge?), self +end +recovery +regen)
9) Ripper (improved - extreme lethal/dot toxic)

Thorn Burst is here as it matched similar decisions in fire and the recently proliferatied mental powers.

Sap seems more the sort of thing they might add. The animation would be relativly easy to tweak from existing ones and it fills the same role in similar slots to other drain powers. It can be slightly more powerful than those others, because of its single target nature and likely lengthy recharge.

From a creative standpoint, sticking a thorn in someone and sucking out their energy seemed reasonably thematic.
A tad unheroic perhaps; but then fussing much about that seems silly in the face of attacks routinely using fire, electricity, darkness, and bullets.

That was fun, lets do some more!

I think both sets are great, but i have a more Possible blend of both:

THORN BLAST

1) Thorny Darts
2) Thorny Pikes
3) Fling Thorns
4) Aim
5) Thorn Barrage
6) Thorn Spear
7) Thorn Burst
8) Sweeping Spears
9) Rain of Thorns

THORN MANIPULATION

1) Impale
2) Lunge
3) Quills
4) Puncture
5) Build Up
6) Thorntrops
7) Ripper
8) Sap
9) Thorn Cage

These seem more possible sets now, But I choose Impale because it originates from the thorns. and yes, it does seem a bit un-heroic, but so is burning someone alive with a flame thrower

Maybe add some Plant Control powers for Thorn Manip
Maybe for Tier 9 you could have a nuke like Burst or cause a bunch of sharp torns to shoot out of the ground, a Target AoE =D

We were concidering the "Thorn Manip" power with thorns raising out of the ground, if possible, it could be used in an Ancillary power pool set, that gives me an Idea...

THORN MASTERY

1) Thorn Cripple (Lethal/Toxic Ranged, Disorient, slow)
2) Thorn Manip (Lethal/Toxic PBAoE, slow, knockdown)
3) Barb Swipe (Lethal/Toxic melee, -Def to toxic, psi ,lethal, smashing)
4) Thorny Armour (Toggle, +def Smashing, lethal, toxic, melee, Foe lethal/Toxic at melee range)

(Note: This might be possible if more ancillaries are created such as ones for Archery, Sonic and others proliferated)

You still thinking to much about attacks. There are only so many attacks you can use in a chain, anything else is redundant. If you took a primary that was all attacks, a secondary that was all attacks and an APP that was all attacks you would be Mr Gimp. And certainly, there are no melee attacks in any APP or PPP, because extra melee attacks are available in the regular pools.

I based the power layout to be like all three electricity powersets in the blaster archetype, Thorn Cage being like tesla Cage, no damage, but a hold.

But If thats a bit too powerful I guess i could make Sap into a new power like powersink, "Toxin Spray" (PBAoE foe - Res Toxic)

I'd replace barb swipe with another new power called "Poisonous Gas" (foe -Def all, - res Toxic, range, melee, Hold, vomit/choke)

I hope that this would even things out for the powersets
