  1. I think the issue with Electric control is "How do they make it different from what's already in game?" I doubt the team would want to rehash existing powers from the existing Electric sets; taking a few from here and a few from there and combining them into a new set. I'd rather see something that takes a lot of time and thought and if different from what's already in game

I'm just hoping Castle makes good on his promise to take a look at Defenders and any changes will go into effect for GR (hopefully sooner).

But his reasoning on respec's always struck me as emblematic of his overall problem as a dev.

The refusal to give specific information about powers for philosophical reasons, forcing us to build characters based on vague, often confusing and sometimes flatly misleading power descriptions, and then making the mechanism to correct the inevitable mistakes a genuine PITA to use.

Remember what the Terra Volta trial was like at launch?

I had one character I REALLY wanted a respec for- not for structural reasons, just because I'd taken Teleport for his travel power and found out I HATED it.

I was really excited when the respec trial was added to the game....until about the 5th time we failed it after a long, hard slog (which I suppose fits Jack's definition of fun, based on the famous Gameboy anecdote). Rather than keep beating my head against the wall I parked that character and moved on to another one.

    GG, Jack!
I never understood why a trial that was created to give players the option of reselecting powers because they "gimped" their toon was as insane as it was when it first came out. That was one of those times I asked myself "Do the devs actually play this game?"

My fluffies were also reduced from being able to have three to just having one. As far as Inherents go; they also threw out the Defenders version as a last second thought and it's been mostly useless ever since

The only time I ever go to Galaxy City is to pay base rent or for the cape talk to mission. Most times I forget it even exists.

They should have thrown WW or AE in Galaxy and removed that one from Atlas just to spread the love.

This is one of the most annoying things in this game. As a hero/villain you are given missions by contacts, essentially they are asking you for favors, yet they refuse to give you their "number" to contact them. IMO with holding the number serves no real purpose in the game. If it's a matter of the contact not "trusting" you with the number, guess what... they are in the same location everyday all day and you can't touch, them so what's the big deal?

Traveling from one end of Mercy Island to the other back and forth from mission to contact is the reason I could never get into playing villains.

Let me also add that he was the worst when it comes to communication. Whether ED of the GDN was a bad thing or not is debatable, but what's not debatable was the terrible way they were handled.

Speaking of communication, he also had a knack for hinting to things that never came to pass, such as Avilians, Coralax, Blood of The Black Steam, SSOCS (Some may say that is day jobs) and a host of others all the while refusing to do something as simple and widely requested as giving us "real" numbers.

The Kin with Invis was moved to Champion. I was perfectly fine waiting and being ported, I just don't like playing Kins.
  9. My gripe isn't really a problem with the game, but something I find ratehr annoying.

Merits have become almost a must if you want to acquire certain recipes in game, but are not easily achieved unless you sink a lot of time into getting them. Even so, the time invested out weighs the rewards in many TF/SF cases. It also encourages people to find quicker ways to hurry up and complete the TF/SF just for the sake of merit/time ratio. Also completing story arcs take longer than TF/SF in most cases but reward much fewer merits.

Additionally, the random roll mechanics need to be reworked. As a level 50 I may want to slot level 35 enhancements. There's no way I can roll and get a the recipe I want at level 35, my only hopes would be to buy it from the market, which may or may not be an option.

I also think it's a waste of time doing random rolls at levels other than 0s or 5s. I learned this the hard way a long time ago, I was level 37 rolling for level 35s and hoping to get somethings I could use, not only were the 10 recipes "Crap of the Hunter" types, but they were 37. Useless to me and almost worthless on the market.

I honestly think merits should also be awarded on enemy defeats, much like Vanguard merits only at a much rarer rate. This would allow players to accumulate merits while partaking in the most fundamental aspect of the game.

  11. I should be able to join up. I was thinking of doing a double XP weekend run of all the TF commander TFs, this will eliminate the need for me to try and find a Posi team.

Good to know. I've been looking to start a new villain and red side on Victory seems a bit slow...

You should really start playing a defender once you've gotten used to the game. As others have said that the scrapper is a good starting class for the beginner, because of the high damage it can do.
That's kind of the reason I suggested he start off as a defender, once he plays a scrapper everything else is... meh...

Also playing a defender you'll never find yourself lacking a team or being left off a TF.

Invited them both to join me, gave them each some start-up Inf, and ran a few of their early missions with them, explaining various concepts, mechanics, tips, etc. as needed. Was also able to keep them SB'd for travelling.

It was a very rewarding experience, and I intend to try to find some more uber-newbs to help out again tonight, if possible.

I know some, perhaps *many* players already do the same kind of thing, I just want to encourage them, and suggest it as an alternative activity in general if you're feeling bored with whatever you're up to in-game.

And not just for the benefits of building the player base. For me, the time spent with the newbs passed very quickly (2.5 hours in the blink of an eye), and it was really fun seeing it all through their eyes again (after many years of play). It also left me with a nice warm-fuzzy feeling, and reminded me of the first player to take me under their wing as an uber-newb back in the day (Thanks Orion Arms!).

[Of course, 5 minutes after leaving those two newbs, a lowbie called me "another selfish, self-serving hero" for not agreeing to PL him in the AE (as I was about to log off).]

So if you're feeling like you've "hit the wall" on content or TFs or Badging or whatever, let me recommend taking a break, finding some true newbs, and offering your assistance... it is, as I said, very rewarding in many ways.
Good for you Roberto! At least there is one nice player on Free... I won't go there...

Ahhh thanks for thew linkage! I knew someone from the Khan/Cuda TF/SF was an Incarnate, but am usually to immersed in scrapper lock to pay attention.

Welcome Syfy! Hope you enjoy your stay; you've come at an exciting time. There are very good things on the horizon.

As far as what AT (class) to choose, it would really depend on your play style but I'd suggest for a beginner to try out Defenders. They aren't generally the most "super" of the ATs but they are almost always needed and appreciated by teams.

    Good luck!

    Isn't Schadenfreude also an Incarnate?

  19. I'm not sure what the thinking was behind the decision. I'm still on the fence about pre-ordering; leaning towards not doing it and just waiting. We'll see what happens when the dates get closer.

Basically what I am saying is that if a team wants to have an advantage, they will be able to find it. The team who wants to prepare most will have an advantage, but that is in any competition of any sort. A tennis player who never practices is only relying on natural ability while a player who practices daily and works hard will be more likely to improve and do better.
I really need to pay attention when I read, I didn't realize the event was all day Saturday. I'll pop in Saturday evening and see what type of action is going on and if there is any need for any of my toons that are still on Victory.

Maybe... We had always had the ability to fly and although the tech was given to everyone to be able to add wings via the costume creator; wings does not an AT make. That's almost the same as saying toons with tails would be a new AT.

I would like to think Avilans as an AT would be more than just having wings; maybe angelic beings for heroes and fallen angels for villains?
  22. lol @ ThongSnapper. I'm so jealous I didn't think up that name first!
  23. We had a similar conversation in Victory Forum global chat last weekend.

We have still not seen some of the long ago talked about ATs like Incarnates, Avilan or Blood of the Black Stream. I think there was another one was Coralax but I'm not sure how relevant they would be since they are all over CoV. Some are speculating and gearing up for new ATs by leveling one of every AT to 50 just in case (I'm looking at you Masque). I'm far too lazy to do that though. I do recall way back when (Damn I feel old) the original lead dev said that locking the new epics would not require reaching level 50; but just like him, that idea could be out of the door.

I'm speculating that since Incarnates received their powers from the well of Zeus, the new end game system will be some sort of epic quest to find and drink from the well, thus turning your level 50 into an Incarnate.

The great thing about speculation is if you're wrong who cares; we're just throwing out ideas anyway. On the other hand if you're right you look like a genius and can say to everyone "I told you so"... at least for awhile
  24. Check out the TTH interview with War Witch for GR.

After reading "I had to ask the question, “What does it mean to be Praetorian?” It sounds simple enough, but there are a lot of details: What kind of currency do they use?" I thought to myself "Not another effin currency!" I sure hope they had the good sense not to add another form of currency to the game. I guess time will tell...
