1. Earlier,

Headphones on listening to heavy metal and watching TV Holly seemed quite content till the television flickered disrupting her favourite show, "Goddamnit" she sighed giving the cheap television a batter and then the broadcast appeared, ".......Can't you see how much FUN we're gonna have?!", Mr. Manical's speech ended leaving Holly in shock.

Soon after the TV got back to the normal broadcast but the young legless red-head looked to her equipment, starting to attach her cybernetic legs and power gloves. It was at that point she heard a loud explosion and police sirens coming from the east of her Kings Row apartment, "Holy [censored]" she exclaimed looking in awe out of the window, it made her hurry her pace finally ready she bursted out of the apartment door.

    ---

    Now,

Minutes later leaping from rooftop to rooftop at superspeeds she watched from a ledge nearby, Doctor Mechano's machines stood out the most followed by Longbow and a few Heroes nearby the warehouse.

In a brave and possibly stupid move she leapt from an apartment rooftop to the thin roof with a painfully loud metal clang, she had underestimated the weight of her highly flammable fuel-filled cybernetic legs. Hitting the thin roof she fell straight through crashing down to the cold concrete floor of the warehouse seemingly in the very center of the place, she hadn't quite opened her eyes yet groaning in pain.

So, how can I turn a major disapointing AT into something that is fun playing? Anyone?

    My tip? Don't solo, from 4 - 50 i don't think i ever solo'd my Stalker, if i couldent find a team i'd PvP, or RP.

I also found picking a set with a self-heal is win, specially for PvP which is what the majority of Stalker players do.

My DB/Ninja fairs very well in PvE with an IO build mainly built on defense. As for solo i coulden't really offer advice as i hate soloing, but in a team, use placate tactically if you have cone attacks position correctly, and if you take a nasty hit, run, heal up back into hide and land in another AS. Common sense things really, my biggest tip is to team though.
  3. What EternalKnights said is exactly my opinion of it too, coulden't of put it better.

    Fire/EM - Advice

When i respec i'll definatly be skipping Conceal and getting Leadership, more HP would be good for survivability, and more Damage from sets would be nice, but having a high recharge seems to outweight them both.

Even at HP cap for a Blaster, an AS & Energy Transfer would still kill you, no? Saying this because in zonal PvP that is the most popular AT and Powerset. Solo with no buffs of course, with Thermal or Sonic buffs it would be a diffrent story.

    Fire/EM - Advice

You won't regret rolling Fire/EM, i love it PvE and PvP it just well, it owns. I haven't played my blaster in a while but this was the old-school, essentially PvP build, concentrating on Recharge, perma hasten and Inferno will be part of your attack chain. The mega fast Recharge of this build will always mean you have an attack ready.

It also has Hibernate and Phase shift, bare in mind the build is oldish and this was before they brought in the Phaseshift nerf. I'm still miles off this build, just dont have the influence.

My tip for playing a Blaster in PvP, always keep moving, stand still and you'll just get wasted. When you enter combat switch to Combat Jumping, with Hurdle you'll be very hard to defeat by a Melee class and if you do take a hit just bam on Phaseshift or Hibernate.

  6. I should be around and 50 undoubtibly.

Nukes, Shivans, level 50 DB/Ninja Stalker named Blackcurrant if theres space for a Stalker of course.
  7. Ive managed to squeeze in PS, i'm just wondering what would be best for PvP, set wise both seem viable, Blind and Caltrops (With Caltrops you can even get a -20% Recharge proc)

    Heres the build for those curious (Built with infamy in mind);

    [u]Blind Powder[u]

Pros: Not many squishy AT's have mez prot to Sleep or Confuse, can de-toggle and give you enough time to get an AS in. Can be used from Hide.

Cons: No good against Scrappers or Tankers, can always pop a Breakfree to get out of the mez.

    [u]Caltrops[u]
    (Never used this)

Pros: Slows, breakfree won't do nothing against it, Can be used from hide(?), (Also has a -Jump?)

Cons: When their planted the enemy knows your there. If someone is stood still long enough for you to use them, you may aswell AS.

    ---

Really split which one to take, ive heard Caltrops and Teleport are the perfect combo, but ive never heard nothing good about Blind Powder.

Anyone wanna share opinions on this, shed some light on it?

Against rules or not... blatantly stealing ideas is rarely a good sign of creative RP ability.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for supposing that my enthusiasm for something and my want to represent it in this game is a sure sign of my being a poor roleplayer. What is there to steal? I used a name. I didn't pass it off as my own, and stated my intention to distance the SG from that which it was based off.

Anyhow, idea retracted due to the point by the other posters, which is well taken. Have a good evening.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I never had chance to read the Original Post, but i'd of thought they'd be nothing wrong with tweaking your idea, or maybe wiping the slate clean and coming up with something new.

As Alfred Pennyworth would say; "Why do we fall, sir? So that we might learn to pick ourselves up." (I just -had- to use that awesome quote!)
  11. I'm not sure how i'll use them!
    Probably to identify characters, Lets see, an example would be;

"Character: Miss Bubbles - That bubbly girl, likes milkshakes, has piercings on her eyebrow, tattoo of a dice on left arm."

Things that aren't ingame that can be easy to forget.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
But that aside, I guess my plea mainly comes down to a question of why more than anything. I just don't understand why someone would use Arachnos powers IC, use Arachnos equipment IC...but not be attached to Arachnos.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Warburg is full to the brim of 'Rogue Arachnos' and they use Arachnos equipment, the armour actually has the insignia scratched out. I don't know much about the backstory of that admittedly, but that may answer your question about using Arachnos armour IC when your not in Arachnos, atleast from an NPC standpoint, which i imagine could be easily adapted to serve as a character concept.
  13. Got to agree with Tyger.

Example, how hard is it really to actually steal a Crab Spider suit and use it for yourself.

Alot of the Arcs ive done ingame ive never done them IC, or even connected them loosely to my character. Aslong as there's a plausible and well thought out explanation as to why said character has Widow Claws, Crab Spider features and so forth, it's all good.
  14. Loud music came from an apartment in Kings Row muffled those ever common sirens. A young crimson-haired girl noticed the war walls were down as she peered out of her murky window, after a few moments she turned down the blaring Heavy Metal music. Casually Holly Steel picked up her gloves, her gloves that had two trigger mechanisms in each hand, and a knife guard on each wrist, wiring some tubing into her clunky mechanical feet she sighed. Holly didn't like this, but she had to defend her home and that meant defending the whole apartment in which over fifty people resided. Out in her casual wear that more often than not, was either a rip-off of Freddy Krueger's top, or had profanaties in big writing written on it, she wore her favourite red and black checker skirt and badly torn fishnets.

Picking up her wooden baseball bat from the bed with 'Kiss it' etched into the grain, she headed out of her apartment. Upon exiting her crib she lowered her blast goggles, sheathing her bat onto her back in which she'd made a special hook mechanism, easy to take off the bat and easy to put back on. Looking at her black, tightly fit gloved palm, she crafted a bubble, then poured fuel into the bubble. Essentially this acted similar to a waterbomb, filled with petrol, ready to be ignited into something that would likly represent a Molotov Cocktail. She juggled it, waiting for that all familiar sound of Rikti teleporters.

The first footsoldiers began to materialise in front of her, right outside her front doorstep. Clicking her metallic heels together her hydraulics kicked in, propelling her backwards into an alleyway. Lighting up the starter flame inside of the bubble whilst in mid-air she threw it, hard, and bang on target. The water-balloon like missile hit its target, exploding into a fireball, lighting up the black tinted lenses on Holly's goggles. She landed and landed harshly as the next footroops ported in, her metal feet caused the tarmac to crack from a 20ft fall, she slowly pushed herself up, taking aim once again. The alien invaders took aim and fired at the young woman, before she could fire back, Holly leapt to one side, fast enough to avert the plasma blast. Another bubble-bomb flew from Holly's hand, exploding on the group of Rikti, they ran around flailing as their flesh burned. Especially the monkeys, they went wild their burning petrol covered bodys trying desperately to reach the twenty-two year old before they would live their last moments. One got close enough. The thudding sound of wood against bone was heard, Holly's baseball bat sending the disgusting Monkey flying atleast 5ft into the air.

In pure Will Smith Independence day style Holly stood over the now dead and burned Monkey "Don't <censored> <censored> on our <censored> planet you <censored> <censored>!" she kicked the corpse, looking over into the distance, the war walls powering back up.

The question is, how do we balance IC ability with the rules of PvP?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I suppose you don't really. All the more reason to try harder and win the in-game fight. Fun both way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Inspirations of certain types could be used somehow in OOC agreement with the opponent, for example if your character's fists hit hard, take a couple of enrages, and you have a +handicap instantly.

Of course a bit of imagination is required, but that's the only way i think could be used to balance it asif it was in-character. Going too deep into that would spoil the fun of both, in the past when ive done these things players have developed their characters even more.

Echo vs Long Snowflame was a hellish match, and Long came to the conclusion Echos stamina was through the roof (Elec Armour just cannot be end drained!) and Echo discovered trying to hit Long was hard, the ice coating was slippery (Ice is a DEF set.) all good fun though!
  16. Now this sounds fun!

Mixing both elements of the game i enjoy most, Roleplay and PvP!

I think it's a brilliant idea, you really can exadurate the battles and show exactly how your characters powers work and what effects they have without being limited by game-mechanics.

    Page 30 - 31

Tagline: “Yeah, I've got claws, I've got teeth, and I bite. That's not a problem, is it?”

At first when walking into the door of the Fourth Wall, we thought we'd got the wrong address; nit was so posh we immediately felt our alt-hackles rise. The whole club is very trendy with a Japanese-fusion flavour and expensive leather sofas. However looks can be deceiving. Not the limp-wristed queer we thought he'd be with a name like that, Jean-Luc was all man – shirtless under his biker leathers (his Triumph Tiger is parked outside), his inter-racial heritage is obvious; cafe-au-lait skin, high cheekbones, and full lips. Yet his golden eyes, silver-white hair and fangs gave the impression he was about to go for the throat.

An amazing host, he spared no details, refusing to interview until everyone in the crew was stuffed to the gills on jambalya and ice cream. Only once we rolled our contented bellies out into the main club would he consent to talking, though no amount of wheedling could get him to pick up the Fender Stratocaster which was resting in the corner of the club's stage. Reluctantly at first, once Jean-Luc eventually got talking – and once we managed to decipher his rather thick Kreyol accent – we understood why Holly had raved about the manager of the Fourth Wall; he's made good and with the calm dignity of someone with nothing to prove imparts good food and advice whenever needed. At the same time, he doesn't pull a punch either physically or verbally, and is brutally honest.

As far as his own abilities go, Jean-Luc is a lycanthrope – though he can change at will. He gave us a rather dramatic, bone-crunching demonstration, turning from a man about 6 and a bit feet tall to an massive white wolf-man easily eight feet high. We would have run screaming more than likely, but the eyes remained the same; calm, golden, and perhaps a little embarrassed. Still, it's just one of those things Jean-Luc seems more than capable of dealing with.

So, what can you tell us about your powers and abilities? Not a whole lot, really. It just sort of happens, more like an adrenaline rush. I can control it to an extent, but it gets harder when I'm in a corner. My whole metabolism is sort of whacked; I can only eat raw meat for example, though I can drink alcohol. On the whole, it breaks down like this: yeah, I've got claws, I've got teeth, and I bite. That's not a problem is it?

That sounds rather juicy, but we'll get to that later – when did you start up with the heroes of Paragon? That's actually a lot longer a story than I can manage in this interview. I used to be a cage-fighter, and I made a promise to someone dear to me to try and find a better way to live, so I left that life and came up here.

I imagine that must be a huge adjustment to make. Well, it's more a mental thing. Whether I'm a werewolf or a wolf in a man's body, I don't know, but I think a bit differently. When I was working in the hero business, I sort of tended to see criminals as prey and the city as my place to hunt and track them down. That sounds really like I'm little more than an animal, and that's where the frustration tended to come into it for me. Heroes must be noble and compassionate and hug babies and pet kittens and all that, and my attitude was more like “Right, this guy just broke into some elderly woman's house and put her in the hospital just to steal fifty bucks off her. When I catch him, he's going to eat a few teeth.”

So you found hero work pretty difficult mentally, if not physically. Definitely. It's really hard to get it through people's heads just how difficult it is for me. It's like trying to tell a wolf to sit up and roll over. It's not a damn pet, it's a wolf. I didn't understand why if some guy has stolen a purse for the dozenth time that week he deserved a break. If a member of a wolf pack displays behaviour that isn't normal, the pack kills them for their own safety. It's not pretty, but that's what they do. What was needed for me was someone to break it down as to what it was done the way it was, in something that was other than the bullsh*t answer “Well, because.” I'm a hunter, not a sadist or homicidal.

And now you run the Fourth Wall. There's rumours the handover was a bit strange. Oh man, it was more than strange! All I remember is the former manager, Stratocaster, and and I getting drunk one night in here, and lo and behold he announced he were going to go on tour. Somehow, they handed the keys and contract over to me, and the next morning I woke up with a smashing headache and the responsibility of the Fourth Wall! I'd never run a club before, but I managed to find some backers, and I put in the Zydeco, our own private restaurant.

It's a pretty flashy club – don't you find it appeals to the more jet-set people? I suppose it could do when you first walk in, but most people by now know it's run by a grouchy Creole who will happily bust a snob in the chops if necessary. The main thing here is people can be themselves, and that's encouraged. I don't care what the hell they look like. Actually if I found out people thought of this as a high brow place where you have to dress in a suit and tie before we let you in, I'd be p*ssed.

Now let's get to the juicy bit. (Jean-Luc groans). Don't b*tch, bare it all! Who have you got in your life? Mon Dieu...lots of people, but that's not what you're asking. Well, fine, since you're looking for edgy and I know I'm pretty tame. Not that it's grand, apparently being bendy is trendy. Let's just say the closet to the door is open, but I haven't exactly taken the bold step out yet. I'm just sort of watching in the doorway – I think that's the first time I've even said that out loud.

So you're [censored]? Big deal, man. Well it's a big deal to me, anyway. I had enough problems in the ring as it was, I didn't need any more with them knowing sexual preference.

That's a “no, no one around” then? Big N.O., my friend. I'm officially in the “All men are [censored]” stage of my life right now.

Since you're retired, what's your plans for the Fourth Wall? Stratocaster always wanted this place to be rather Gig-friendly, so I do try and get new talent in as far as performers. Currently, I'm working on having the band Pipe Dream come in and do some sets. There's also this Creole songstress who comes in regularly. But for the most part my plans are to cook, to drink, and to relax. I'll leave the hardass hero work to the kids these days, but if they get stuck in a bind, they know where I am.

Thanks Jean-Luc, or perhaps we should say Mesi Bien. We hope to see more of the Fourth Wall in the future, the posh club open to those of us in the alt scene.

    Crab Spiders - Arachnos' SWAT

One of the saviours in the Etoile Isles is Arachnos' crack team of specialists. Highly trained in meta-human conflicts, the heavily armored 'Crab Spider' teams work around Etoile Isles eradicating threats to the Islands civilian population, aswell as maintaining order in the entwined nest of Islands. The teams of often seven or more, both male and female recruits, deal with the everyday dangers of the Isles. Without them a lot more Banks would be robbed, alot more innocent people would be put at risk, and alot more random crimes would be committed.

But then we see how things can go wrong, in Stefan's little world. Take one trip to Warburg and we see how some of Recluses sick interventions with humankind to create the perfect super soldiers can go drastically wrong. Squadrons of Arachnos patrol the missile facility calling it their own, calling themselves Rogue, against the plans of Recluse and his peers.

Are there books and TV shows in real life about well, normal people in real life?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ive always assumed there was, i have used LOTS of references from things i like, from music bands to certain films, good example being my characters favorite film being Pulp fiction.

It's often the little things like that, that make me identify with my characters so well, its something to be familiar with. The main reason i found RP in WoW hard was because i couldn't link anything i like in today's RL world with my characters, i dunno, that's what makes RP here for me fun, because the setting of CoX is modern day, saying you saw Pulp Fiction last night IC, isn't immersion breaking at all (Well, atleast for me) saying it in WoW for example would be.

Perhaps the bigger question is; in a world where superheroes are real, what purpose do comic books about superheroes serve?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not all comics are about super Heroes, but from what i gather, the mainstream ones are. Although, i dont know much about comics, infact i ordered my first bunch today. (v1 v2 and v3 of Hack/Slash if your nosey! Ok, so maybe my second, i did read the Civil War graphic Novel)
  20. ... Do 'real' comic books exist in the City of ... World? For example, could my character go into a store ingame and buy the Civil War series, or any other comic book for that? Possibly even the City of Heroes comic books. I'm asking this because i'm planning a character plot that involves comic books.

And that's exactly what it is, planning, thus why i wish to ask the community. Are 'real' comic books in CoX cannon? Is it fudge-able? Or is it just plain impossible / A silly idea?

And think about in-game advertising before you post, as 'real' items will be advertised in a fantasy world. (Of course its your choice to allow this or not.)

As for the topic, noones perfect, i make countless mistakes in spelling and grammar, i feel people go over the top with it sometimes correcting themselves because they've typed 'teh' instead of 'the' i know what you mean no need to type (( *The )) and kill the immersion in the same stroke.

Smilies, i dislike. Immersion killer too, and for me RP is the best when i'm immersed.

Oh, another good one is making little of situations that should be taken a little more seriously. A good example being, someones char dies, next night their in D's. Or char 'A' turns into vampire one day, a demon the next day, dies the next day and becomes a priest the day after that. Such bland boring characters in my eyes, if your going to have a character event, make something of it. Have it long running and more intresting than 'I'm a demon tonight'.

Somewhere on the northern coast of Columbia, South America...

BRAKABRAKABRAKABRAKABRAKABRAKA.... THWIP. THWIP. THWIP, came the sound of automatic gunfire that tore through the jungle that threatened to engulf the dirt path that wound it’s way towards the coast. Running just ahead of the hail of bullets was a man who was essentially naked apart from the dark grey hat he clutched to his head, as well as the orange tiger-striped cargo pants he held to his nether regions in a somewhat pointless attempt at modesty.

Jeez, I gotta sort my freakin’ life out. Most guys who get caught in bed with another guy’s wife will generally get away with a simple @ss kicking. Me... Well I gotta end up with a freakin’ private army with enough firepower to turn this jungle into a freakin’ car park chasing my sorry butt. Next time, I really ough’ta think a bit harder before sleeping with the local drug baron’s wife.

BRAKABRAKABRAKABRAKABRAKABRAKA.... THWIP. THWIP. THWIP, came more gunfire just as the man cleared the treeline and bolted across the dangerously open bit of ground that lead to a rickety wharf, where a small somewhat dilapidated tug boat was moored.

As soon as the man got near enough he leapt from the shore onto the boat’s deck. Once his feet hit the deck he whipped up a machete that was embedded in the side of a boat, and cut the heavy rope that moored the vessel. Then, as bullets started to impact, splinter, and ricochet against the boat, he desperately tried to fire up the engine.

    SPLUTTER... SPLUTTER... COUGH... COUGH... SPLUTTER...

”Aww, c’mon baby don’t fail me now. I promise you will get a new lick of paint if you get me out of this one.”

SPLUTTER... SPLUTTER.. COUGH... chug... chug... chUG...CHUG...CHUG...CHUG

”OH YEAH, I FREAKIN’ LOVE YOU!!!” he shouted, while kissing the boat’s wheel, as the vessel’s tired heavily rebuilt motor kicked to life.

On the shore a dozen or so heavily armed men continued to fire in a futile effort to stop the boat as it pulled away from shore. Not willing to just thank his lucky stars and make good his escape, the man felt the need to taunt his pursuers one last time...

”Gentlemen, you will always remember this as the day you almost caught Big Game!!!
  24. Tracey Lee, also known as Holly Steel had a rough night to say the least. After hearing news her partner was going to be away for a while she overreacted, the two hardly seen each other enough as it was. Holly was starting to feel the strain of the relationship, she was told he'd be home by 3am. By the time Sean got home she had fell asleep, her clumsy mechanical legs sprawled out, her arms under the pillow and her head delved into it like she was trying to hide her mascara stained face. Sean undoubtedly fell asleep soon after.

A few hours had passed, it wasn't light behind the window nor was it dark, Holly woke up blearily eyed glancing at Sean as he lay bare chested, fast asleep. She sat up on the side of her bed looking out the murky window, rubbing her tear stained eyes whilst trying to be quiet with her steel legs, which weighed more than a sandbag each. The usual gunfire, hoodlums shouting and constant building work in Kings Row was silent, for once.

The Goth styled red-head took the time to reflect, something she rarely done, thinking about where she started and where she had made it to so far cheered her up. The thought made her feel a little bit proud. She had kicked a serious drugs habit, she was saving people even if she didn't acknowledge it on a daily basis, she had a bit of money now, her own flat, and above all a loving Boyfriend, it hurt her like hell when he was away, probably why she took the news so badly. Glancing at her modified Paragon Protectors helmet she smiled to herself, turning back to the window her smile turned to a sigh. Holly was still new to being what some might label her a 'Hero', at times she sure as hell didn't feel like one.

As quiet as she could she clambered between the covers of her tatty double bed. Taking off her clothes she pressed her body against Seans affectionately, putting her arm over him. It wasn't long before she fell back to sleep.
