No problem... and yeah... I know I am not normal, but I have over 2,000 saved costume files... and most of them use the Masks With Hair head option, haha...
I'm just slowly fixing them and saving/overwriting them as I stumble upon them though. Fortunately, it's not too difficult to change it back. -
Quote:I feel as though this example paints marketing executives in far too good of a light.YES! EXACTLY!
Because...
... this is more true than people realize.
Marketing executives are the ones that sit around and go "[This non-existent piece of tech] would sell really well. Hey programmers and tech people, Make it happen!"
---two months later---
"Why do we have [this now-existent piece of tech]? It's not selling. Hey programmers and tech people, get rid of that!" -
Quote:With Issue 21, they consolidated the Heads options by combining the Standard and Heads With Masks options. My search fu is weak, so:
Whenever I try to edit a costume on a already existing costume (as in not a brand new character), the head defaults to the defaults when you are making a brand new character.
This was a good removal of an unnecessary redundancy, but the bad news is that all of our costumes using the Heads With Mask option aren't recognized.
So, we have to manually put the face, hair and details back together. -
Thank you for leading the way, Electron Boy!
We can only hope more heroes will rise from the inspiration that you provided. -

Sheesh.... some of the replies in here are ridiculous... "No, NewScrapper, you shouldn't dislike the new tutorial!!".
Give it up. He does dislike it! And he's allowed to!
The only thing you were "wrong" about was possibly the Shivans.
No biggie.
I like both designs and would love to see something like the ones we knew already come around in something new and I'd like to see completely different ones introduced some more.
Anyway...
While I understand where you're coming from with not liking that the action starts right away while you haven't set up your trays and options, I don't think you should harp on that.
It's one or the other, and they wanted to go with action right away.
I can understand that. They're shooting to grab players with excitement. You find it counter productive, but I'd imagine some people's anticipation (and delay, to set things up) adds to the excitement and urge to go go go!
Nothing wrong with you not liking that, but yeah, it's entirely subjective and not necessarily a huge deal... I think it is the rest of what you find wrong with it that stands out as real problems with the new tutorial.
I agree with most of what you say.
I find the lack of right clicking and/or info for the other heroes to be disappointing and a missed opportunity. Not a huge deal, but... why not? It's backstory and, if someone checks, they obviously want to know, so it's a good thing to provide that info (just like you can find it everywhere else in the game).
Ah, but that's my main problem with the tutorial and all of the new training missions I have run so far...
It's not like the rest of the game.
It's not introducing you to the game that I know. The one that I've been playing and loving.
Things are kind of weird... enemies that aren't going to defeat me, things that I can't get info about when I try, things I can't click, non-instanced weird areas through doors that... my own teammate couldn't come into with me (That is NOT CoH!!)... Only one starting contact and story arc...
And yeah, I completely agree. A tutorial that taught things inside of a few minutes is better than the new experience and a training system (IF people stick with it) that lasts until level 20!
Level 20?? That is odd. I mean, a cool idea, if you want to go through such a beginning phase, but actual lessons about enhancements and such not coming until so late? That seems useless.
As far as people don't want to learn and all that jazz about people being different and not wanting or following more in-depth (if you can really call it that) instructions... Screw that. This game wasn't dead. Plenty of people don't mind that sort of stuff. It didn't turn US off... AND... What in the blazes makes anyone think that people with such little attention spans will stick with the training missions through to level 20 when they can join AE teams or run the sewer trials or whatever comes along and hits them over the head (and they start getting levels faster)?
Whatever, I'm not up in arms about the change. I do get what they were going for and I am not convinced that it is going to backfire on them... But I don't like it and don't feel like it is better nor necessarily done well.
I like the attempt at the pace, I like the comicbook introduction, I like the moral choice, I like the scenario and enemies (although, just running through something so epic to escape is not my idea of a great intro... but hey, it's not MY game!), but I that's about it. I find the rest to be pretty poor for the reasons stated.
I do very much like Golden Girl's idea about some added bits to learn about clicking on glowies and enhancements and inspirations.
Nothing wrong with the first section being a mad dash... then the moral choice... then train and then you have to run into a building to save/steal some equipment... maybe a combat encounter in there too... then head over to the next part, as is... and finish the tutorial the rest of the way as it is already.
Boom... that might be a nice mesh and a successful tutorial experience.
I like trying to hook people with the excitement and experience. I don't argue with that approach. I just think it is executed a bit too vapidly. -

May as well put the super jinx on it...
I, as well, have not been logged out during a session (and I also changed my password [to the same one] in order to log in the other day).
I don't use the remember me thing, so, I haven't experienced that (it does remind me of the Seinfeld bit with the car rental place and the difference between taking a reservation and holding a reservation... hehe).
Anyway... This computer has been logged into the forums all day... I've been in and out and posted and checked several times and not once been signed out...
<.<
You do realize that we're now due for repeated auto-boots every 2 minutes...
(And I am still [and will always] select and copy all before every single post... what a great feeling when you get kicked out, but don't lose anything because you copied it first!) -
It sounds like you have the right approach with enhancements (you never know, I just figured it was worth a check! As much as you hate to ask, sometimes you have to check if the person has the device plugged in, hehe!).
Quote:I think you hit it on the head with that. Not that Either of us are saying that people are crazy to enjoy getting that into it, but yeah... it's not for everyone and fortunately not needed. Such players generally push the bounds in order to really maximize efficiency and/or challenge themselves way beyond the default game settings and average experience....It is that intensity of caring that leads to the mistaken impression (on my part) that these issues matter more than, perhaps, they actually do in practice.
Quote:No, I don't overclock my PC. I guess I'm as casual in computer usage as I am in game play.
I also don't do anything special to my car; driving in L.A. is anything but recreational, and to me a car is just something I use to get to work and back home.
And my computer serves my purposes fine. I don't know if I could get more out of it... I turn it on, I can do what I want to and I have no need to try to get more out of it. Same with my characters.
Quote:Most of my characters are on Virtue, and like I said before I tend to lean towards Scrappers and Tankers. I like the melee classes. However, there are times when I feel like being in a support role, and then I like to pull out my L50 rad/rad Defender. Before I stopped playing I found my 50 rad/rad in high demand, though in many cases the mobs were steamrollered so fast that I rarely had time to lay down a debuff much less fire off an attack. I sometimes wondered why they wanted me on the team so much. Maybe they didn't care about my AT so much and they were just filling in the ranks for maximum drops or something. *shrug*
Also, from what I understand, Rad is especially good for taking on AVs, due to debuffing their regen rate. So, they'll always be popular, especially when expecting to fight some nasty AVs. It brings other good things as well, of course!
Quote:I have always loved COH both for how solo-play friendly it is and for the incredible player community that actually likes to team up with total strangers. Ultimately I am hoping my old teammates will re-join the game when Freedom goes wide and we can pick up where we left off (we had an all-Defender team that rolled through AVs so fast it was embarrassing, but they quit while their toons were still at L40, and I kept playing mine to 50; now may be the chance to get them all up to L50 and beyond). We played the standard TFs but never did any Trials, and none of us has ever experienced the Hamidon Raid or anything of that scale that has been added since.
The Incarnate Trials are, unfortunately, currently large team based, but there are very slow ways to get there (while you just do any content on your level 50), plus they have stated that they're going to add solo and/or small team content for it eventually. Still... they're quick and actually some fun content (opinions vary, of course). Half an hour now and then for a big battle with a few different phases can be fun. Regardless, the Incarnate content isn't anything needed or anything either. It doesn't sound like you'll hate it though.
AND... All Defender Teams will still wipe the floor with everything! IOs are nothing compared to stacked Defenders powers!!
Quote:So here's a recent example:
Is Mender Ramiel's arc for unlocking the initial Alpha Incarnate slot supposed to be a team only mission? I just tried to solo it with my L50 DM/SR Scrapper that is outfitted with all 50+ (or 51) SOs--usually in an Acc,Acc,Rend,Dmg,Dmg,Dmg configuration for attacks--and I simply could not overcome Trapdoor's regen rate (and he was "only" an Elite Boss to me). I had to basically leave the mission out of pure futility.
Now either this is intended for teams, or for solo characters with the kind of DPS generated by IOs, and probably continuous consumption of big reds at the same time. Either that or I simply don't know how to solo a L50 Scrapper.
It is somewhat of a team-suggested bit of content.
The mission text suggests that you do this with a team (not that this always means much, but, in this case, it does).
The next mission is tougher (and involves two pretty tough EBs in the same room... with a bunch of Rikti as well).
Now... just for the record, this is the arc that I was talking about soloing on my characters without a single IO.
My Elec/Elec Blaster soloed this (I only say this to reinforce the fact that it isn't about having IOs in your build at all), so I'm sure you could do it, but I have also seen plenty of people not be able to (at least, not in what they would deem as tolerably fun).
However, with just one more person, these people were able to fly through it with little-to-no problems at all.
People are often very willing to join and run these missions together with strangers.
I think knocking Trapdoor into the lava really helped my experience. This actually happened by accident, but many people on the forums were suggesting it to people having troubles fighting him.
Also, taking out those clones, of course, is a good strategy.
Anyway, Ramiel's arc is fine with a team (Any duo I've seen can handle it).
And, take your time. You'll probably look over all of this in a month or so and feel like you're a much better player by then, hehe, I know it happens with me when I return to an old game (or, even a lot of times in this game, an old character with a powerset I haven't played in a long while).
One last thing... Have you joined any of Virtue's global channels?
We use a bunch of channels to help find and form teams and it can make a huge difference in finding teams.
Off the top of my head...
Virtue TFs 2010
Virtue LFG Alpha
VirtueUnited (is usually less teaming and more chatting... I don't keep it actively visible, myself)
Virtue Trials (I think)
And I think Virtue TFs is still active
I just add them all and check/shout out in that tab when I want to join/form something.
Best of luck! -

Quote:HAHA!This game is the only reason I ever bought a computer. In Jun 2004, I came back from Iraq, and was walking through Best Buy with a friend of mine. We were getting something to help his kid. I saw City of Heroes, picked up the box and started reading. A super hero video game? Hell yeah!
I took the box over to the guy at the computers, told him I wanted to play this game, show me a computer that could do it. 2 hours later I was calling another friend to borrow there truck, because Best Buy either wouldn't deliver the computer, chair, and desk that I had just purchased, or they couldn't do it that day.
Once I got home, I set up the desk (took an hour) set up my computer, and started it up. I was amazed at the loading screens, you know, the ones with the AT descriptions.
Once it was all finished installing, I tried to sign in.
Oh boy, a super hero game!
The hell do you mean I need internet to play this?
Time Warner Cable, I need internet.
No, it can't wait till next week.
Well how much extra to get somebody out here today?
I don't care if the techs are supposed to get off in an hour, I need internet, ASAP.
Yes, I'll pay the extra 40 dollars.
Two hours later, I had blazing fast high speed internet.
I logged in, picked my powers Claws/regen, duh. I'm a Wolvie fan boy)
Got to the costume creator, and couldnt see anything except the silhouette of my toon. I just picked some random costume pieces and loaded in. The scenery was beautiful. All the costumes I saw were great. I even got a few compliments on mine. When I explained I couldn't see anything, I was told I needed a new video card. by this time it was already pretty late, so I just played.
The next day, new video card, plus 100 dollars to get it installed right then.
I loved it, and have been here ever since. I even managed to play while I was deployed. At the time, I hadn't even met my future wife. Now I have my account, my wife has hers, and my almost 6 year old girl has her own account to.
That is fantastic!! -
Just did some looking at the different swords.
I'm not sure if this would be the only issue with porting the sword model over to Katana, but the hilt of the Barbarian Sword is nearly as long as some of the Katana options.
Honestly, that was another reason that I thought it might be an option and could possibly come along in a future patch.
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one! -
-
While I'm all for further weapon proliferation, indeed, my main thought in this case was that they made this new art asset. Make one and/or tweak that one for Katana (the powerset with so few options).
I'm hoping that that really just might. It's a beautiful sword!
And, no, there was no new Claws option either.
While I'm all for adding weapons to each and every one... in this case, all I'm saying is that some of that sword design can be used to make one for Katana/Ninja-Blade (still, if they wanted to make barbarian claws, I'm all for that too!).
That and Archie the Barbarian wants that sword. -
-
You'd have me sold if you put that sword in for Katana/Ninja-Blade.
Maybe the hilt needs to be lengthened in order for it to work with the character rig/animations (I didn't study that aspect of the new sword), but it would be so very much worth it to modify that sword and make it something for those powersets.
C'mon... they never get any love and here you put in a nice amount of weapons for several sets. Just a touch more work and you've got a GREAT addition for them.
And... don't anyone say that barbarian swords and the katana style do not mix... One of the most famous examples in pop culture dismisses that.
Oddly enough... I couldn't find video online of that famous scene of Conan warming up with his sword. He draws the sword just like the Katana animation and spins ad whirls it around, much like the style of the Katana powers.
Seriously, Devs, is it possible to get that fantastic sword placed into the Katana selection?
Please??
Quote:Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good players or bad. Why we fought, or why we were defeated. All that matters is that we chose this game against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me that sword! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you! -
