Side-Tangent time!
Quote:Honestly, even after I looked through all of the Barbarian options (and liked what I saw) I still felt like it was a bit short. Mainly because of what I felt it didn't have and/or how some options were limited and/or how some options should have existed across the different gender models. That's just it - I raised hell about the Barbarian set being too small and excluding too much stuff, but when I saw what was actually in the set I was gobsmacked. The Barbarian set has A TON of stuff, much of it unique to the set and much of it opening new possibilities. The male loin cloth unprecedented, the arm rings are a whole new ball game and even the female fur-trimmed skirts are brand new stuff. Most of that set brings with it brand new themes. I was wrong about the Barbarian set - it had more than enough stuff in it, and it was well worth the 400 points I spent on it. Hell, I feel it was worth even more and like a cheated the studio by paying just 400 points. I would have easily paid 800 points for the Barbarian set without a second thought.
...
It just felt like... a bit more work here, a bit more time there, a bit more mutual availability all around... And it would have been close to perfect.
I felt that way about the Animal Pack though... And the Steampunk Pack.
Sometimes, getting options that you like, but can't use the way you want to can be more frustrating than never seeing the option at all, hah.
The great barbarian loincloth thing for males: I'd love to see that for females (along with a fur chest covering). It also came with the w/tights option which... while very cool, is a bit odd, because those tights are super tight and look like tights and it seems a bit incongruous with the theme. Leather or hide pants (without the muscular detail showing through because they're so tight) seems like a better option. And, even more so... making the fur loin cloth a skirt/kilt option would enable us to use any and all of the pants/legs options (which would just be fantastic!).
The other major peeve of mine with that set is the awesome Barbarian sword and how much I wish they made one for the Katana sets.
All of that does, often times, go hand in hand with delivering something good though. Just the way we all complain about this and that or ask for this and that for the game... the better the game is and the more options it provides, the more options we imagine to be added and the better we want things to be!
A selfish lot these things make us... But that's okay. It's what makes the mmorpg go 'round.
So, yeah... Devs... Give us all the CoT stuff, all the barbarian stuff I mentioned above, Titan-Arms, huge and muscular females, fruit baskets and free trips to Hawaii, because we love you!
Anyway...
Also, check SteelClaw's great post in my sig and follow it! -
Quote:Right, I was going to reply to someone else, earlier, reminding everyone that.so you and Feycat are kind of in agreement here?
Also, bumping because I'd really like it if the Devs could give further feedback.
Looking back on Positron's post, it seems even HE didn't know the real reason why many of the pieces were held back.
Posi just offered his own guesses and stated them as such. It's not his department at all. So, it is very cool that he came in and responded and always appreciated, but yeah, people shouldn't take that and run with it (too much, at least). -
Quote:I feel the same as you and Feycat (and many others). It does feel a bit more like the kind of set we might have gotten in a regular issue (a bit fancier with the skirt-thing, perhaps). That's what I'm saying - the pack isn't BAD, it's just not worthy of being called a pack. It's not enough. All of the pieces have their uses, I'm sure, but none of the pieces are SO good as to make the pack worth it, and I honestly don't want to see these half-finsihed packs again. Not if "clipping" is going to be the excuse and not unless we're promised that the rest will come in as later additions.
Not that's there's necessarily anything wrong with that, but their price point may be a bit off.
One or the other - More stuff or lower cost - Is my general feeling about it.
To be honest, I had a small feeling that the Barbarian set was just a bit light... But, the more I looked at it and played around with it, the more versatile I saw a lot of the options (never mind when counting the actual number of items). -

Quote:Those are much better points than how I expressed it.Like the Freespecs? They aren't given out through the email system either.
When has that stopped them? Case in point, new costume bundles/parts bought from the Paragon Market, the new Reward Path Auras are simply unlocked without the need to claim them. Yet the costume parts that are bought at the Incarnate vendors still need to be claimed.
-------------------------
And, yeah, Lothic, I'm just sayin' too. Zero worries.
Hrm... Interesting. -
-
-
Personally, I disagree with you Lothic, for two reasons...
One, it's just unAmerican... okay, no, that's just a silly joke on my part...
One, just because the new email system is used for some things, doesn't mean it is better to use it for all things. It's already rather full with the vet rewards and incarnate store rewards. I don't think it'd save them any resources to continue auto-delivering the free tokens to each and every character (we'll see... when they finally grant them).
Two, (although, if "one" is just my opinion, perhaps it is all just one point) I think this email system is... not very good... mainly because the email window is so damn small and you cannot really make the inbox bigger, only the field below it grows if I expand the email window. So, I have to scroll through a list of many things in a tiny window to find what I am looking for on each and every character. Not to mention... I greatly dislike how we have to claim the incarnate store items per character, instead of them being global unlocks (but that's somewhat of a side-tangent).
Anyway... As far as I can tell, we did not get those free tokens and I was starting to wonder what was up with that myself... So, thanks for starting the thread, Venombeyond. Let's see if we can get an answer. -
Sadly, not at all surprising (no fault of your own).
Huh... what do you know... This seems to work! http://asterixonline.info/comics/Asterix_Comics/01/1
For better reference:
Here is a list of all of the books, on the official site, in chronological order:
http://www.asterix.com/books/albums/ -
Quote:I love that movie.I used to love Asterix, had some of the comics and would read them often. I used to watch The Twelve Tasks of Asterix movie all the time, although I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing since it was recorded of the TV by my mum and she missed the first five-ten minutes!
I'm amazed it's been going on as long as it has!
They've made a bunch of other animated movies as well, but I still haven't seen most of them. Unfortunately, I saw one that was really not very good at all. Asterix and Cleopatra.
Also, from what I understand... While Asterix is the most popular cartoon character around the world... One of the main reasons that most Americans have never even heard of him is because of Disney's business moves. You can't get region 1 DVDs of the movies.
I haven't looked in a while. I keep forgetting... I want to try and score a bunch of those.
Anyway... yeah, my grandparents used to send them to us in the states from England. Great comicbooks to read. Great humor. Always loved the art. -
Understood
What is funny is... Remember how, when they got first glimpse of the CoT makeover, many people were saying that they were very eager to have that costume for themselves (even if they didn't like them for the CoT).
Sometimes, the developers have to scratch their heads, hehe.
What we got was a little more than what we originally saw.
Although, I'd honestly suspect that the overload in the store is going to slow down sales a bit right now.
Costume pack releases aren't going to always be like they were with the Super Boosters that came out once every few months, with tons of people all buying it at once as soon as it comes out.
We'll see! -
Quote:Interesting. What you suggest could be the case. I'm not going to say it is not.Usually when a new costume pack is released, I see people all over the place wearing it. People grab it right away and go to town outfitting themselves. However with this one, I haven't seen too many other people wearing it at all. I guess there's quite a few people who were dead serious when they said "No pope hat, no sale!"
It's a cool costume set to be sure..but we players get entirely too little of it- I suspect that's part of the turnoff.
However, as much as I love those hats and would like one (although, I don't know why... I'd really probably rather a more generic wizardly hat, to be honest), I don't think that many people really wanted the hats (I think it's mostly weirdos like us... although, there are certainly a fair amount of weirdos amongst us, hehe).
It could be the hats, the high collar, the waist cape thingy, the fuller skirt... one, some or all of the above. It could just be too light on options.
Or...
We could see the first sign of so many things coming out so quickly and people not jumping to buy each and every thing immediately (which is perfectly fine and healthy... and not a sign of doom, hehe, just in case anyone wants to jump to that conclusion).
People may have used up their points, spent their allotted amounts of money, they may be starting to get a little conservative and/or wary... "If these many things keep coming out... what is coming out next week? maybe I should wait!" (again, I think that's smart and healthy approach).
We've never seen so many things for sale, in such quick succession. Some may have enough money to buy each and every thing, but not everyone will. I can't imagine the majority are in that position.
So, we'll see...
I just thought it was interesting to hear your observation (I wasn't around too many people when I logged in). -
Time to celebrate, relax, commence the merriment...
Bring the boar...
And quiet the bard!
I love them too! -
Quote:And for cysts sake proper feet paws and hand paws to go with all sets without going monstrous.Quote:This so much! I'd also like a glove that looks like a regular animal paw with claws.Quote:Yes! I'd rather have the full range of options with legs rather than the really short shrift Monstrous legs version.
I was lobbying hard for it when the Animal Pack was in beta.
I always just think of the feet, but I'm all for some hand options too.
Still, just making boot options that are those claw/paw feet with fur/reptile/skin options would be super fabulotasticous. -
Quote:From a resources/feasibility standpoint, I agree.Well think of it from a player standpoint.
If you're a player who would never use these options (and from looking at most characters out there, most wouldn't) would you want them using up all their time on this?
I wouldn't. With the new costume pieces, I can see many people using them! Okay Cyborg pack seems to not get much use. But generally, those pieces get used. Those new sliders/models...not as likely.
However, asking me if I'd like them working on those things (or things I'm not interested in, but others may be)... I think that these types of options add to all users' experiences, because the options they don't use, they get to see from/on others.
I'm not entirely normal though (so I'm really not against your point), but I would like them to work on such things, even though I don't think I'd actually make fat characters nor huge females (I might, but I certainly don't have any in mind at present time, yet I still get excited at the idea of them adding such things). -
Quote:I'm not really disagreeing with what you're saying...Fat slider and Huge Female Avatars are a waste of time for the devs of any game to create.
You see it mentioned on the forums, "Oh, I'd like to have this added!" but then go look in game.
You don't see a lot of Huge Male Models in use, you don't see alot of people running around with the physique slider way up or the waist slider way up.
Asking for these two things would be a waste of creator time that could be spent on things a majority of players would use.
It's just that I don't entirely agree with being quite so adamant about it.
You see, you say that we hardly see people using x or y or z... but people do use it. Just a smaller amount of people, for sure.
However, I sometimes think that is a great aspect of options. Should options provided be based around wide usage or about greater variance for the fewer used extremes?
Obviously the business side looks for the more attractive popular choices, as that might entice sales, subscriptions, interest... However, there is validity to expanding the choices to the rarer interests to satisfy those extremes as well.
I do, however, think that the marketing, design and development team agree with you and they will not "waste" efforts on such things.
I'd just love to see things well-enough so that resources could be put to those things. I don't think that'll happen though. -
Quote:While I am not the source of an official answer, and I can't say that I know that they have said so officially... I believe it is at the beginning of that month. What needs to be clarified is whether these things accumulate at the BEGINNING of the month on your billing date or at the END of the month on your billing date.
So, if I'm a Premium player. And I become a VIP for precisely 1 month starting October 10th, 2011.
Do I receive these things on October 10th or on November 10th?
(1) 400 paragon points
(2) 1 paragon reward token
(3) 1 free character transfer
They're both my billing date, but it's unclear to me which is the answer.
Obviously the preferred answer would be October 10th, since I'm *unlikely* to be able to make productive use of that 1 free character transfer after my month of VIPness is over.
And given that I subscribed on Day 1 of Freedom, and I received my character transfer tokens a week later when they handed them out, I'm guessing that the answer is October 10th for *at least* #3.
I can say this (and this also, again, is for people who believe they did not receive their Vet Reward Token), I received my Vet Reward Token on my billing date. I assume that was for starting the new month and not for the previous month (You get one when you start, so that explains that there).
So, Reward Tokens do seem to be upfront and I can't imagine PPs being the opposite.
Maybe none of that helps... but... So there! -
Quote:Oh no, I remember reading a letter from a dev that had said they were hoping to make the pack larger and had more heads on the table, more other pieces as well, but took them out. I'm not sure if that translates to: "it was nearly done" or "it was just concept", or how that would also translate to possibly seeing it down the pipe.
Did you see the letter pre-edit or only post-edit?
The bunch of replies following were somewhat indicative, but it was hard to really make out what was said.
Then someone told me and I believe they inferred that it was more than plans, if you know what I mean.
As I said though... This is third-handed information, so yeah.
Still, it left me with the belief that there is something more than just idle possibilities. -
I'm just going to chime in to say... Sam, I don't think you're so alone on this as you seem to suggest in the original post.
I don't see anything that is silly, joke, or even niche about wanting bigger, tougher, more muscular options for female characters, clothing/armor options and weapons and such.
And I also love the idea for "Titan-Arms", as we've both wanted to see Monster-Arms and I also remember when SilverAged coined the Titan-Arm phrase, hehe.
Also, while you're right about it being caricaturization... the 'isms sort of go hand-in-hand with caricaturization.
Anyway, some great replies in here.
I love Sam's talk about a well-understood problem is an easily solvable problem, hehe.
And Arcana's thoughts about how a lot of the psychology manifests is certainly quite often the case.
I also think that Xanatos's points are important.
While I do believe there is a major cross-over in the standard super-hero/action-hero ideals and some of the standard sexual ideals of men, his points can't be dismissed. Not that I feel like anyone was really dismissing them either. I mean, part of the point is that those are one-in-the same within our society for a reason. However... is that because of an over-sexualization about male action heroes? Or is that because a large part of the naturally developed psychology of the human male sexual indicators are about healthiness, strength and ability to provide by means of a physical nature in the wilderness? So, naturally... a strong, healthy super hero is going to set off some bells. Just as pronounced aspects of the female form set off bells of fertility and such (however, Xanatos, those aspects do not generally help out in physical heroism).
Let's face it... we're all screwed up from our history, our development, our cultures (and a large assortment of other aspects of humanity) to the point that it is impossible to completely separate all of the quagmires and reasons and justifications and caricatures and insanity and so on.
No, it is not all that difficult (at least, for some) to analyze and view objectively... but there will always be extents and points to which we really shall remain the primordial, chemically-driven creatures that we are. And, then again... that is the truth, so why do we travel so far in order to remove it?
I'm not saying the above to suggest that we shouldn't, nor that I don't do so... Just pointing to the inherent humor and difficulty (perhaps absurdity) of it all.
Oh right... rambling... -
P.S. I sent a PM to the community reps for you.

Quote:Wut? That is total BS! Standing for "Beastyle", of course! As existing VIP subscribers, when the City of Heroes Freedomâ„¢ Head Start began, your game accounts automatically received credit for being active in September, as your first month of having VIP status. Paragon Points were awarded on the date Head Start began, instead of on your monthly billing date.
Going forward from October you will receive your Paragon Points on your game account's billing date as long as you maintain VIP status.
Thank you very much! That is what I thought was going on, but hadn't seen it addressed specifically before.
And really... Thanks, Paragon Studios for the bonus September points up front! -
Quote:HAH!Null the Gull - Toggle on plain robes classic look for the Circle of Thorns :P

LOL!!
I have been known to say this more often that I'd care to admit!
Thanks for the laughs, people (as always!). -
Are saying that it is wrong to say that the Super Tailor was part of the Science Booster?
Quote:Not to mention that either way, it is meaningless. People (myself included, sometimes) get so ramped up that it's like "Charlie stole the handle, and the train, it won't stop goin'. No way to slow down'.
Believe me, I (reluctantly) made the decision to try and have this discussion here, knowing that it'd likely end up with me getting piled on and looking very silly. Big deal.
And I feel like I got a couple of interesting thoughts in response. So, there ya go.
regardless, I understand and agree with your post!
Quote:Because, as seebs pointed out, "prerequisite" or "requirement for" do not mean "part of". As in the actual, defined meaning of those words, such as you might find in a dictionary, do not communicate the same concepts.
The devs have never described "the Incarnate system" as part of Going Rogue, the expansion. They only described GR as a prerequisite to accessing the incarnate system.
We keep using analogies because analogies are how one shows the meaning of words, by example. The words do have meaning, and you're using them in ways that doesn't seem to line up well with commonly accepted meaning. Yet you keep dismissing the analogies, because the analogies aren't the thing itself. Yet if we have to define these words uniquely for this example, then again, the words lose meaning. If we can't use these words here as we would use them elsewhere, how do we know what the words mean?
Just because someone who wants to say they are not a part of each other labels it as prerequisite does not make it a lost cause to suggest that they are part of each other.
It is not a lacking of understanding the meaning of words nor of being capable of handling such concepts.
It is a disagreement of the strict usage of one without the possibility of the other.
Anyway, I had some extra time to waste on this, but... I do not feel swayed one bit that the content was not part of the expansion. And that is fine. I have no problem how others want to see it. I only brought it up because people were saying it was wrong to see the content as part of the expansion. And I see that as wrong. It is completely justified to consider it part of it.
How about we just agree on "they are tied to each other"?
Not that we have to agree at all.
Next time we see each other... don't hold my opinion on this against me. And I won't hold yours against you. All is okay in the world (well, this tiny, insignificant aspect of the world, at least, hehe). -
Oh, no argument there, KaoZ.
And I only go on and on, because people reply asking me things or saying something that has an obvious response to counter it.
Dechs and anyone else interested...
I say that the required purchase for the content makes it part of the purchased expansion. You say it is only a prerequisite and that does not make it a part of it.
So, then I ask the question (and this is how I should have worded it originally, apparently):
What else did you have to buy within this game in order to access something that you do not consider to be part of that something that you had to buy in order to access it?
If you really feel like going further:
Why would there ever be such a distinction?
We're talking about vaporware... virtual goods, content, silliness... not screwdrivers and screws for fixing grandma's mechanical boyfriend.
Why would content within that game, that requires the paid expansion, not be part of that expansion? The system was not timed to come out with the expansion's launch, but it still required the expansion's purchase. Nothing else within the game requires the purchase of another part of the game despite it not being a part of it.
The fact that the content that required this expansion was located within the realm of that expansion and revolved around the villains of that expansion is further reason to be okay with saying that this content was a part of the expansion.
