I used to love Asterix, had some of the comics and would read them often. I used to watch The Twelve Tasks of Asterix movie all the time, although I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing since it was recorded of the TV by my mum and she missed the first five-ten minutes!
I'm amazed it's been going on as long as it has!

They've made a bunch of other animated movies as well, but I still haven't seen most of them. Unfortunately, I saw one that was really not very good at all. Asterix and Cleopatra.
Also, from what I understand... While Asterix is the most popular cartoon character around the world... One of the main reasons that most Americans have never even heard of him is because of Disney's business moves. You can't get region 1 DVDs of the movies.
I haven't looked in a while. I keep forgetting... I want to try and score a bunch of those.
Anyway... yeah, my grandparents used to send them to us in the states from England. Great comicbooks to read. Great humor. Always loved the art.

I have never heard of Asterix.
Is there any place to read some of the books online?
Huh... what do you know... This seems to work! http://asterixonline.info/comics/Asterix_Comics/01/1

Thanks.
The names in this book are ridiculous. I got a real kick out of Chief Vitalstatistix.

That's a shame, but as you say, he's been at it forever. While Asterix & Obelix are French, they're super-popular in Germany as well. I collected all the comics and I still have them in a box at home. Definitely a shame to see them stop, but it's been so long, and Uderzo has been going alone for decades now, I think, so he's earned his retirement!

I never knew Asterix existed until I spent some time in Europe and visited a comic book shop. Loved the comic and read every one I could get my hands on while over there.
The other thing that surprised me was that all the comics there were in hardcover.
Asterix creator Albert Uderzo quits drawing at 84
He's only been at it for 52 years.
I loved those books when I was young.
