Quote:Not true!I didn't say that they were among the most actionable. However my thought process is that if the racial slur was actionable and the Star Wars infringement was actionable, then the character in question had two metaphorical guns to its head. Either one would trigger the action, but it would be a moot point as to which did the character in.
Most everyone would be highly concerned over who shot first!! -
Quote:After looking through the special Black Pebble Decoding Ring... Did this really clear anything up??Holler if anything goes askew with your Statesman Salute rewards. An 11 hour lapse shouldn't have any impact (on the funds I need for my kitten and human baby sacrifices, muhahahaha). It would need to be closer to 24-48 hours. On the off chance it does, CS can take care of it for you.

Too late now, I guess.
I'm really surprised you didn't change that, but... eh, people will find out what it is before buying it (one would hope, hah).
Still... that period of time, no matter how brief, between reading "Flying Disc Power" and finding out that it is NOT a travel power results in the sort of disappointment that I'd think a game company would want to avoid.
...BUT... this has all been said.
Carry on!
EDIT:
Besides that... HAPPY ISSUE DAY!

Quote:Well said....
I find it odd that you've become so defensive over some people saying vaguely disrespectful things to you on a message board, yet have even entertained the idea that it's OK to drag modern mass murder into a game of escapist fantasy, as long as you have enough fun with it, and anybody who gets upset at you dredging up memories of their murdered relative, or vaguely implying their race/religion makes them a terrorist, is just too easily offended.
... -
While I don't have a desire to see it included in the game, basically, you're interested in something that would assist you in calculating the approximate weight, based on the mass of the avatar.
And I do find that interesting!
I haven't checked those links Ad Astra offered up yet, but I was going to say that I'm sure there must be some resources out there to assist (obviously, not to the degree that you were suggesting for the game to provide), but something, at least.
I used to be a fan of professional wrestling and then in multiple sports... So, I used to remember a lot of heights and weights of exceptional physical specimens (of course, the wrestlers used exaggerated numbers, hehe... and, then again, the official listings of most professional athletes are not always accurate either... haha).
Still... I think we could come up with average ranges for a human's weight based on height and the body sliders... How to divide that information up though... Hmmm... -
Quote:This very thought was on my mind as well.I've got to step in here.
Would it be any better if he named it Danny o'Mite? After all, the Irish had their fair share of terrorists. And I'd be willing to bet more than a few British families still think N. Ireland over Middle East when it comes to terrorism - even though that's been past for a while now.
Honestly, *EVERY* race/creed/color/religion has spawned terrorists (or "freedom fighters," I suppose, depending on what side of the equation you're on.) What if I made a white, late-1800s-ish US soldier, a Nec/Poison MM, and called him.... oh, Blanket Statement? Might take a bit for some people to catch on to the reference....
...
And... love the name of the last character!
Not that I am providing positive feedback toward the OP question(s), but just a simple pondering.
I imagine it is another matter of time. What is current and what is not. Different things of differing scales tend to last longer for the average masses to feel offended by.
Whether or not any of us agree with someone getting offended... it doesn't make those offended less valid (offended is offended... Yes, there are always two sides of extreme, but hey, that's the way it is). That becomes the tricky bit... 'what's too extreme and who decides?'.
In the end, I suppose it just comes down to whether or not you want to be that guy (regardless of what criteria and equations you use to work it out). -
Quote:Agreed. And that is the fault of the writing and/or execution of the craft. You know, maybe that's just me, but nothing in a story can ruin it for me than when I can spot the hand of the writer working from behind the scenes.

Quote:...
Even so, I don't think that would have been bothersome in the final count except that the whole affair seemed so half-baked storywise...
And that's all I was saying. I don't personally have any issue with them doing it for whatever reason that made them decide to do it... But whatever their reasons, the execution of it should be as well done as if the reasons behind it were completely different.
Done cheaply? Quite possibly.
Petty? I don't think so.
However, the reasons likely being what they are and not done so well? Yeah, that's going to come off even worse for some. I get that! And I'd, personally, have worked to avoid that in the execution of the story/writing. -
Yeah, I've heard this since I started playing... And I started as an Elec/Elec Blaster. So, that is actually my baseline for the scale of damage, meaning that my take on it may be off... but I am happy with what the powerset does.
That being said, I am certainly not opposed to getting more damage from the set.
I also think that the synergy with the Electric primary and secondary somewhat overrides the main issue.
Pair Electric Blast up with most other secondaries and it may not be so favorable.
On paper, it does seem like it gets a bit of a raw deal. Whether or not it truly does, I am honestly not positive (yes, that's an intentional pun... sorry).
I have felt as though my E3 with Alpha Musculature is more like what I always thought the set's damage should feel like.
And, yes, Voltaic Sentinel does get overlooked and passed up - Even by myself! I didn't even take it until we got inherent Fitness and I respec'd it in. It certainly makes a big difference when I do use it. However, I would prefer having a 3rd tier blast instead... but I like to have control of things, hehe. -
Doh!! I missed this! (Darrin Wade made me miss it)
I've always had a great time interacting with any Golden Age member(s) I've run into and had a great time last year as Amazing Ape.
I'll have to make sure to seek you guys out sometime, as I'm not going to wait a whole year! -
Quote:Oh, I understand that standpoint as well!Or some of us could just have our own ideas ont he characters personalities that fit into whatever exporsure we've seen in game.
And in this field, getting rid of others lingring works is what ruins the writing. One More Day ring a bell?
"I don't like that writing...let's get rid of it!"
Not liking to work on someone elses characters has me wondering why people would get into the field that requires it.
Maybe the people there just didn't think they were ever very good characters and would prefer to wipe them out than retool them.
Either which way, I don't think anything I say will appease anyone's qualms! And I'm not likely to change my mind about being okay with whatever reasons they had.
I do get what you are saying though. I'm considered quite a stickler for quality in my work and I'm not one to often pardon it in others.
Just one of those cases where I don't have a problem with it... Maybe it was something Darrin Wade slipped into my tea... -
Quote:Hehe, I know we're getting way off subject here, but...Why revamp it when they can just destroy it like Galaxy city!
Blueside could do with one less zone, and they can move the sutter TF to Talos!
While I respect and understand the fact that we have a lot of zones and it may be too many (at the very least, too many that are under-used... and perhaps a global teaming/communication system that is under-used, combining to make a bigger problem)...
However, I don't think I'm in favor of removing any zones without making existing ones BIGGER.
While I agree that things may be too spread out, zone-wise, I feel like things are too cramped! -
Quote:By all means, I can only offer my own opinions and I certainly do not fault you for yours nor anyone for their own, regarding their liking or disliking of this situation (You probably fully know that, but I'm just stating it for utter clarity of my position when posting that).I think the problem is having Matt Miller phrase things as he did. At that point, if this were "Castle" or "The Mentalist," the fact that Statesman and Psyche were both creations of Jack Emmert and are now dead would be linchpin motive that has Our Heroes exclaim, "Aha!"
From the standpoint of dealing with Jack Emmert, I am in no position to begrudge any ill feelings. He may have deserved every bit of hostility ever expressed by anyone. I can also understand Matt Miller's perspective in the sense of "opening up new possibilities by cutting ties to the past" sort of way.
The execution (pun semi-intended) of the death of Statesman left so very, very much to be desired, for all the reasons I shall not repeat. Coupled with the Miller comments, it made the entire enterprise look very mean-spirited. Perhaps, as I said, deservedly so to Jack, but what about the folks, such as myself, that had no identification of Statesman=Jack?
I never knew Bob Kane. I like Batman. I never knew Lee Falk. I like the Phantom. I could go on, but the point is that even if Kane and Falk turned out to be utter swine as people, Batman and the Phantom still appeal to me. In the case of Statesman, he was generally depicted as an arrogant, aloof and non-perceptive swine in the comics... EXCEPT when Troy Hickman got a chance with him. The Hickman Statesman was TREMENDOUSLY appealing to me and fraught with all sorts of possibilities as a character.
The Hickman Statesman, if he HAD to die in the Paragon Studios scheme of things, deserved an openly explicit noble and heroic death. There are folks that have filled in the blanks in the story to come to the "noble and heroic" conclusion, and I have noted their efforts. But the story, as presented, shows an experienced, veteran hero walking into an Obvious Trap(tm) and dying at the hand of his daughter's murderer with a smile on his face.
I am a VIP. I am still here. There is so much else to enjoy about CoH, and I do. But I am directly paying for the SSAs whether I ever play another or not. I cannot "vote with my pocketbook" because VIPs pay regardless, and going Preem or Freem means I cannot play all of my heroes, etc., etc. I seriously doubt if my non-participation in further SSAs will make a blip in any data-mining that the Devs do. But "still being here" does not equate to "I am still watching" in this context. Bad form, Devs, very bad form.
I work in a creative field and I can understand wanting to get rid of someone else's lingering work.
I'm not a big fan of many of this game's characters and I'm not that invested in their stories, so those are all aspects that contribute to my feelings on the matter, for better or for worse, hehe.
I also do not disagree with criticism about how the stories have played out and/or the writing involved.
However, even if these stories were written flawlessly and/or to everyone's liking (impossible idealism left in for laughs), if the main reason behind creating these deaths were due to the characters being Emmert's, I don't personally think we need to claim it is petty. More importantly, I don't think it would be petty.
It's easy to sit back and imagine and all, but when we're in the thick of things, we figure out how we really would handle things.
Anyway, again, it's fine for anyone to disagree, these are just my thoughts on that one aspect. The only point of my post was to offer my opinion on it, no more and no less.
And... It'd actually be great if Troy Hickman were to write something befitting his take on Statesman.
I'm not saying you are wrong for wanting a better and more dignified and/or deeper handling of Statesman. I've not read many of the CoH works, but I've often heard the exact sentiments that you've mentioned about Statesman's character portrayal and Hickman's being the only one of great interest/depth.
In a way, I'd say that the real Statesman is the one found outside of Hickman's work. Meaning ZERO disrespect to Hickman (hi, Troy... I think it has been three times I've said your name now! How are the pants?). In fact, I feel that comment is with complete RESPECT towards Mr. Hickman's work in that he actually got a lot of people relating to or buying into Statesman... where-as, most everyone else seemingly has not.
Sadly, that cardboard character is the one who lived and the one who died. Hickman's was just one who we were fortunate enough to experience for a brief time.
Still, perhaps that Statesman deserves a rightful end as well.
I cannot, personally, place Statesman in any category such as that of Batman and Phantom, but that's easy for me to say since I was never into Statesman.
I do get people's gripe, but it is their show. And when I said that, I didn't just mean being a VIP. I'll still play through the rest of the arc just the same as I played through it up to now.
I wasn't for Statesman dying and I'm not against them killing off Emmirt's characters for whatever reason that they desire.
What's my point? I'm not sure, but if I have one, it could be in this post somewhere...

Quote:Huh... and the 'oft requested' zone that they are revamping next... Huh, people do actually complain about Independence Port... I hadn't even considered it, myself.I hadn't considered that Independence Port is the common thread that decides who dies. Consider Statesman and Sister both hand out a Task Force in that zone and both are dead. Malaise is a former trainer in IP and he is now dead.
Is Aurora the next to die?
Hmmmmm... -
Quote:Yeah, I think the combination of all said factors makes it an okay maneuver in my book.Or it could just have just been his "CO will be better than CoH in every single way" interview
I can imagine it is somewhat like running a gaming campaign and one of the original guys, who was a brash, pain-in-the-neck had the super duperest of all the characters and, since he left, you've had that same character remaining as the head honcho. That could get old pretty fast.
I don't know... as a complete outsider to any of that (And I was not here when Jack was here and I was busy with other things and really didn't know anything about what he was like or anything), I never truly related Statesman to Jack (other than I knew he used it as his forum handle).
As much as players have pointed to solid reasons for negativity towards the person... it is possible that it may have been worse to have actually known him, hehe.
Maybe it wasn't even that bad, but it still is the lovechild character of the guy that ditched this game to make a Marvel game... no, fine, a Champions Online game... and then talked a big game about it and used some underhanded methods (if anyone recalls that stuff) to spread word about his game and negativity against CoH. *shrugs*
Peoples is peoples.
I'm not going to say it is petty of anyone at CoH if any of those reasons are behind them killing off the character.
It's their show and I'm still watchin'! -
The economy is not doing well enough to double your staff!
-
Oooh, interesting take on the gimmick for an Electric Support set.
I am all for filling the last niche left without a pure electric set!
However...
I could be wrong, because I'm not all that in-the-know about these things, but I am not sure, coding-wise, that a singe power could differentiate enemy and ally in these ways that you have suggested.
Far be it from me to say that it cannot, but I'd be interested to hear! -
Everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that March 6th is my mother's birthday!

First off, since this request has persisted for so long, it should absolutely be done (I mean, it's just a sash belt, not a Moon Zone or a Big Red Ball or a Pony!).
They've proven they can make a player-usable sash via the Carnival Of Light pack and it is just rather clumsy that no one noticed the obvious disappointment releasing it for female-only would create.
That being said... I feel pretty optimistic about the chances of the art team making the time to port that piece over for males. Maybe just because it seems like something that should happen, and -for the amount of work- it would provide a rather positive boost among the community that desires the belt (and their brethren who're sick of seeing them ask for it... I mean... Want to see them happy!).
So, while I actually don't have a use for the sash right now, that I can think of, I feel rather strongly that it'd be a great addition for the costume creator! And I'm pretty sure I'd find some uses for it... Maybe it'd get me to finally make my PB!!
Two other things...
I must have missed further replies in that other thread, but I'd imagine it was likely closed because the topic had actually reached a conclusion. David was looking to discuss the topic in order for the team to come up with a policy that seemed good... and that was done. It being a subject that easily and often veers off course, I was surprised to see it still around, honestly.
Anyway, no harm in closing it. This topic really deserves its own thread and I'm glad to see you started it.
Lastly, I'm really sorry to hear about the health issues. Keep strong, seek the best doctors and opinions (seriously), do whatever it takes and fight through it with a positive attitude. No matter how bad it ever gets, odds can be overcome.
Best of luck and keep us informed. -
My sincere condolences for you and your family.
Stay strong and don't avoid the feelings nor feel odd or bad about any of them (that might sound weird, but so many people do start to question why they do or don't feel this way or that way... "too much", "not enough". Just go with it, be patient and cut yourself some slack about it all). Definitely reflect on the good aspects of your relationship and know that those things will always be there for you.
*hug* -
I do actually like the idea of tiny little benefits from a little interaction with the in-game world (honestly, for me, even if the benefits were simply flavor text... I still love hearing NPCs say things or clicking on them to see what they'll say).
I don't think the developers would find the use and/or call for it worth their effort, but I do always love a more interactive game-world.
The Day Job aspect is interesting, but perhaps a bit troublesome. It's always a little weird to add such "grinding" tactics into a game... Maybe if the time spent in those areas actually counted towards the Day Job, just as equally as the time-logged-out does, it'd work out fine. Increasing the rate (while completely understandable from a legitimate use standpoint), really just creates a quicker way to get those rewards and likely would encourage afk or semi-afk grinding for it.
I especially like the idea of visiting the sick and earning some inspirations or so.
To twist Sam's personal stance with my own... There is no downtime while I'm playing.
