  1. But the point of contention about saying it is having the impact of Star Wars is that the true impact of Star Wars (we don't need 30 years, but a little more time than a few weeks or even months, please) is that it wasn't just a movie success for a quick span of time (note the word "movie", Arcanaville!! )!

I very much agree that this movie is a thrill and greatly done and will have people (of all ages) jumping with excitement for a long while... To what extent and what will follow it and how will it all twist and work into the fabric of the collective consciousness?? We shall have to wait and see (always in motion, the future is.).

There were plenty of people trumpeting that The Matrix (and its upcoming super-duper awesome sequels that would complete the trilogy that would be the new Star Wars) was going to be what you're talking about here. Now, I have much more belief in The Avengers and all of its longstanding history within the comicbooks, but...

Let's just relax and enjoy the excitement that this excellent superhero movie provides.
  2. I don't know... when I discovered it was available on Virtue and made the character this weekend, getting the name Solar Ace somewhat amazed me.

I've been wanting to try out an Energy/Energy Blaster for a while and I and finally found a costume and concept and character... and name... to go ahead with it.

As evidenced by the three movies that you listed, this is a matter of opinion.
Let someone walk away and declare this the best movie. That's what a great experience should do... whether it is true or not... first off, is entirely subjective, but, secondly, really doesn't matter... Awesome experiences may sometimes induce grandiose exclamations!
    And I encourage that!
  4. To add one to the list...

Not surprised at all by his skills, but I just always find it hilarious and BWAH-worthy!!

I guess long ago my brain froze in the idea of Mark Hamill "being" Luke Skywalker and it will just not ever accept him as anything so completely different as the Joker.
It's a shame that people within the industry felt that way too
Despite that he was apparently killing it in the greatly successful play, they refused to cast him in Amadeus, because he was "Luke Skywalker".
As much as I loved Tom Hulce's performance in that (I hear it was greatly similar to Hammill's portrayal)... I always wonder what might have happened had Hamill not been stymied like that back then. Ford may not have been the only one to break into large success... eh, who knows!

For the record, I was never surprised about him being Joker mainly because 1) I knew he was always such a big fan of comics and sci-fi and 2) I know he has serious acting chops (even what he gets teased about within Star Wars contains some really great chops from him for exactly what that project called for... which is such a huge thing).

Haha... sorry... that aspect of Hammill has to spew out of me every now and then!! (I completely understand being surprised and don't take what you said or thought as odd or bad in any way!)

All I have to say is... even if they did promise the moon... I'd be completely overjoyed to get a moon rock!!
Besides... A moon rock would 1) be something I could do something with (like place it on a shelf or as a centerpiece on a table or throw at idiots) and 2) it'd mean that the moon was still properly in orbit (as silly of an orbit as it may be) and wouldn't mean major changes in the sky, the tides and people's wonderfully calm and well-adjusted attitudes!!

  8. Just was playing a Street Justice/Ninja Stalker and they go to the normal/open-fist combat stance after attacks... but I think that is how it is supposed to be.
All seemed to be working correctly.
I'm imagining this is just the wrong stance when using Shields.
The only thing I don't know is if the Street Justice animations are workable with going into the Shield Defense combat stance.

Hope this helped, Arbiter Warrant! And thanks again.

I have my Wisps Aura... It's where you'd expect it, listed in the auras available at character creation.

Hrm... I'd suggest filing a Customer Service Report.

Maybe that's what's happening and you're getting tossed into a "normal" mode that's inappropriate for shield?

My advise is to try and see if JUST attacks cause this stance or if it's cause after using Build Up. Just make sure you're not in combat mode before you use Build Up - hit escape several times before you try it.
No Build Up has been used for the collection of those pictures.

(That character is only level 8 and doesn't even have the power yet)

Yeah, it is just the straight up Street Justice attacks that are putting the character into the open-handed combat stance, seemingly disregarding that they're using a shield (not currently sure if a non-shield-using Street Justice character goes into an open-hand stance or a close-fisted combat stance).

Also, for the record, those pictures of the character in the closed-fist stance are in combat as well. If you're in combat and get hit, move or animate something other than a Street Justice attack, you'll revert to the proper /SD combat stance.

I also played my Super Strength shield-user and they remained within the closed-fisted combat stance throughout combat (as I thought, but wasn't 100% positive until testing).

Knowing next-to-nothing about how these things actually work, but taking a stab at it anyway, I'm guessing that the Street Justice powers just may have been written to flag the wrong combat stance (for shield-users, at least).

It's just strange, because there have been a few names on accounts without a global name (that I've discovered, as well as according to other people's reports). Anyway, it does make sense that the names would not be freed up after the script was run on them... those two factors just seem to be slightly at odds (unless they were indeed run to higher than level 35, but that also seems unlikely).

Excellent! Thanks for taking a look here, Arbiter Warrant!

I should have done this earlier, as it seems pretty obvious to me now.
It is any attack from Street Justice and it is because, after any of the attacks (at least the first four attacks), the character goes into an open handed combat stance, instead of the closed fist Shield stance.

    Pics!:

And here is the normal Shield Stance (notice the closed fists):

    Notice the opened hand:

The clipping is less noticeable with the Vanguard shield.

Shields I tried were the Knight, Cavalier, Riot, PPD and Vanguard.
(I was wrong about using a round shield, but I'd imagine it clips all the same)

Sorry, I took you as meaning to change all/most of outdoor maps into working that way!

Still, the phasing tech has other odd problems of its own that I know I saw Posi quoted as mentioning it messes things up.
The whole greying in and out of teammates and such (and disappearing enemies and things along the borders) really diminishes the quality of the virtual world experience... but I do understand and agree that the aspect of cleaning up the neighborhood is pretty friggin neat!

It certainly would be nice for the game world to feel a little more alive with people flying/running/bounding through the streets.
That could be... mind-wrenchingly terrible! See my previous comments about the new AP and about not changing things people like into things they won't like!

The only way that system would work [imo] is if a bounty system came up for a named boss that would spawn within the open world. For example "Outcast Leader Brick has been spotted on Cherry Hills, requesting all available heroes to assist in his capture".
Of course the NPC would have to have the invasion/GM code so he is at least a challenge to all levels, but that would be something i could get behind.
No, the bonus rewards would definitely have to be next to nothing (if not nothing at all).
It'd have to work as the Radio/Paper missions do (so only in certain zones of appropriate levels). And it'd have to work only within that zone (so, you couldn't run to a lower level zone and make an easy time of it... and you couldn't run a mission with those foes to reap in rewards for both missions at once).

It'd really just be a command-centric incentive for people to do a bit of street-sweeping type fighting.
Maybe add in a tiny amount of bonus xp over straight street-sweeping, but not much.
I see it more as flavor... which, as silly as we could say it is, can serve as inspiration and incentive for people to do something they may not otherwise do.

I suspect you're either underestimating your skill or overestimating the average skill of City of Heroes players.
Oh, sapping endurance is absolutely a large part of my success doing it on that character. My general approach (again, I wasn't really planning... just doing, but that is tainted by years of playing this character and knowing what to do already), was maybe lay a hold on one foe, then Power Sink and Short Circuit, then either AoE damage or a hold for any pesky bastards still causing problems (maybe outside of my rush job endurance draining).
Lightning Ball and a bit of backing up and maneuvering for Static Discharge's cone... blast/punch the rest that remain.
Most fights called for one or two greens, but some of them required none. I think I needed to use a break free twice.

Again... if I had used snipes, pulls, attacked from range, other inspirations... or, you know, teamed or lowered the difficulty, this would be a much easier task. That's the problem though, isn't it... It is an easy task on a Scrapper, Brute, Stalker... and people judge the Blaster solo experience by those standards.
Me? I like my health dropping to a sliver before the fight is done!

I almost /demorecorded the missions, but opted not to. Perhaps I'll do that and offer it up for any who are interested.

I'm sure people will say that +0 x3 isn't good enough anyway, when they can do better on >fill in the blank Fortunately, for me, I happen to enjoy the pace and the content the way I've been playing my blaster.

EDIT: Also, I'm thinking about taking some other Blasters out for similar types of a spin, just to see... because I know (and love) that E3s are altogether different!

Actually I was thinking that they meant bounty missions that we could pick up from something like a bounty contact or the radio/newspaper or something.

While you may not like running around and fighting things on the street, others do and that's not a bad idea at all.

I might pick up those types of missions now and then myself, actually... although, when I streetsweep, I don't tend to look (nor necessarily want to) focus on one particular enemy type...
However, I could entirely see these types of missions giving some people just enough incentive to enjoy running about and fighting enemies out in the streets. So, it could be a good idea. Me, I don't need that incentive, but that's just me.

Bottom line, not just to who I've quoted but to the entire subject matter...

This game houses a lot of variety and a lot of players that have different enjoyments and playstyles. That's why you don't want to see something some people don't like changed into something they would like at the expense of making it something that those who did like it no longer enjoy!

Keep variety, and add more, without taking any away.
  20. I love soloing in the streets (or duo-ing and/or teaming with like-minded folks).
I especially like to just find spots with higher concentrations of Bosses and take them on. The old AE boss farms reminded me of high-octane, sped-up street sweeping, to be honest.

I also love the instanced aspect of this game.
    So, I love both.

I wouldn't want to see the somewhat random and free nature of the outdoor maps and spawns removed and turned into the nasty rapid specific spawning of parts of the new Atlas Park model (I really dislike those aspects of the new early missions. Run there, fight any number of the league of specific named foes - that other people have also been sent to fight - and get jumped by more of them as they respawn quicker than you can leave!! Boooo!!).

I do love me some running around the streets though and finding fitting groups of plus so-and-so levels full of nice juicy, xp-holding bosses and causing trouble in the streets of the city that I know and love so well. That is a lot of fun for me.
Whether it is just a few enemies that I come across on my way to where I am going, a victim crying out for help, or a concentrated effort to run around and find the best fights I can find out there... I love it the way that it is within this game.

That said, I've always wanted to see a small amount of extra content added into the open zones. Even just tip missions are a nice added bit of content that can arise from street-sweeping, but I always imagined something a little more... Actually, the side-missions in Safeguard/Mayhem Missions are exactly what I would love to have in open zones.
That and some more burning buildings and some kitty-cats stuck up in trees!

    ...
But if I street sweep my way around the same block of King's Row over and over again, and when I turn the corner the 4th time the same 3 Skulls are prying up the same sewer access lid or stealing the same purse, it just rubs my nose in the fact that I'm not saving the day, I'm just playing a game. It takes a lot of the fun out of it for me.
Hrm... the outdoor open zones don't really respawn like this! And that is one of the reasons why I do enjoy it.
If I clear an area, it stays clear for a bit... but when enemies do return, they're not the same exact ones doing the same exact things. And they don't respawn while I'm there (other than the newish Atlas Park areas that introduce new players to how this game does not work anywhere else).

Different gang members may show up in the same places, but... that's the life of crime-fighting!

    Remove a wall...

    What Impish Kat said!

The Current Room option should allow you to find, target and remove the buried item, which should allow you to get rid of the wall!
  22. I don't recall ever seeing a developer cite the additional data as a problem. If they do (or have), then I'd hope this option could work out well enough to prevent too much of a problem.

I have no problem with what you suggest, but I am not convinced that this particular aspect is a problem at all (other than the UI cluster!).

Forgetting the hypothetical data amount issues, if it just helps them with managing and designing the UI, I'm all for having to unlock the powers in order to customize them.

If it's not an issue, I'm also for just being allowed to view and customize any and all pool powers and the like.

I'm flexible... I just want it!!
  23. I was a bit curious if I had gone insane and/or was completely wrong about my past experiences as a Blaster (honestly, I like to keep open minded about things)...

So, I ran two missions at +0 level x 3 on my E3 Blaster, Electric-Knight. And decided to play kinda stupid, as in... just run into melee and deal with everything 100% in melee... plus no using my Incarnate Powers (except for Alpha-Musculature, which I left in and didn't think about until afterward).

Both missions were against Circle Of Thorns. Lots of damn Ice Casters and Fire wielding LTs, but pretty simple enemies, for the most part. Death Mages at the end of both missions (the first one with two Death Mages around the hostage).

    It was fun!
I dropped once... about three groups into the first mission, as I started the fight without full health and just plain goofed on my timing of things.
I opted not to /Rest after most fights, but did need to maybe 3 times through both missions.
The second mission was a breeze.

The first mission, the end included two bosses.
I defeated them and the entire large spawn entirely within melee. I kept forgetting to count how long I could survive within melee... pretty sure it was longer than 6 seconds, but... it is irrelevant since nothing outlived me (except for that one time!).

Now... there were a few things that made this far more difficult than it needed be:
    • First off, I wasn't using Range or any ranged powers to help me solo these groups and was just charging in and playing a bit blindly.
    • I wasn't using my Incarnate Powers (Barrier would have made this far far easier, but... maybe that's not fair to go by).
    • I don't have any set bonuses, defenses or anything beyond what you'd get from regular SOs.
    • I am weird... I do not use inspirations other than Greens, Blues, Break Frees and Lifts (if needed). Why? I hate the icons that float around if you use +damage, +accuracy, +resistance, +defense! So, I don't use 'em!! Pop a few Lucks and this'd be a cakewalk, hehe. Inspirations are a great tool within the game... I just wish they weren't ugly to use!
I'm not some min/maxer that optimizes things and picks and chooses things carefully in order to kick butt as efficiently as possible... and then comes and brags about it on the forums.

I'm just an odd, immersion-craving, role-player that often only plays a few missions a week... That can solo with Blasters entirely in melee. *shrugs*

If I posted my build... I'd probably get hate mail for years over how boring and ineffective it is.

I honestly can't say if it is accurate or not (without using powers to stop things from attacking you), but... There is no way I am only in melee for 6 seconds at a time... and I really rarely ever get defeated when playing solo.
  25. Fulmens, we can come up with different scenarios that work more or less favorably. Also, I hope my reply to you didn't come off as a learn to play sort of comment. It was just a friendly mentioning.

I don't play on +1 x3... Not everyone plays solo, not everyone plays on teams, not everyone plays on whatever difficulty setting you play on.

Even in your scenario... Two LTs and 6 minions.
Of course, it depends on your Primary, but ignoring that, first:
Hold one LT, focus on the other and deliver AoEs if you've got them. Also, the damage of Shocking Grasp is certainly not insignificant!
That damage plus Lightning Field will be delivered while you dish out all your other damage.
If you go into battle and just use those two powers... no, that wouldn't be great survivability, hehehe. However, if you're having problems fighting 2 LTs and 6 Minions... using a hold can be better than not using a hold.
And I wasn't thinking that it'd be the only tools you'd be utilizing for survival.

Honestly, I don't get it... People complain about Blasters not being survivable, but they don't seem to want to sacrifice their time in order to survive.

Shocking Grasp is a mag 3 hold that delivers a solid amount of damage over time.
Unless you have a way of soloing your enemies without any of them reaching melee range (and you enjoy the process that you use to manage that), Shocking Grasp makes for a great power.

As for Bosses... absolutely, Shocking Grasp and another hold are a beautiful thing (I have 3 as an E3 Blaster).

As for the sleep within /Elec, I just see it as an occasional benefit. It's nothing I rely on, but there are times that an as-of-yet-non-defeated enemy stands around wriggling in electric convulsions and I have zero complaints about that.
Honestly, I always took it to be a thematic inclusion, rather than something to really game or rely upon.

My experiences have shown enemies gathered around me drop more quickly by having Lightning Field on.
My experiences also show me that I can survive in the middle of melee, outnumbered and with zero defense (and zero IO bonuses whatsoever... I only play with Standard IOs... basically SOs).

I'm not saying anyone has to play like me (and, hey, maybe my skill playing this way is above average... I think it just fits with my preferred playstyle, but those can sometimes be one and the same), but my experiences tell me it's not only beneficial and aides survivability... it works.
