  1. Yeah, I am quite pleased about those posts.
I was surprised not to see any threads about it and I suspect your reasoning for why this was the case may be quite true.

Either that, or us Blaster types just aren't all that into starting threads about Blasters...
There was even an earlier post by Synapse in that thread, referencing something he couldn't talk about.

    Good stuff!
I was all but sure that they were already looking into and/or working on Blasters, but it was nice to see those comments paired with Issue 24.
It very well may not be anything we're imagining, but it is pretty much a certainty that something affecting ranged attacks is taking place.
I'm hopeful that a Blaster shine and polish is a part of that.

    We'll see!

Ultimately the reason I tend to avoid playing blasters is because it feels like they have only ONE powerset... their damage. They have very little (varies from set combo to set combo) to support that damage with by keeping them alive however. That coupled with very low base numbers from pool/app/ppp defensive abilities means a veritable fortune in IO gymnastics has to be undertaken to even approach (but never match) what every other AT can do MUCH MUCH easier.

Ultimately I don't think its about letting every run rampant speedy aoe fests but more along the lines of letting that power creep that has benefitted everyone else actually TOUCH blasters cause on the whole it seems to have largely missed them.
Like I said in my post right above yours (and I fully understand we posted them at about the same time!), there are absolutely reasonable suggestions and all. And I was definitely referring more to some of the extremes in my previous post.

And I do want to see greater parity. The thing with the greater difficulty and that playstyle is that there are only so many ways to tackle those gaming scenarios.
We have the ATs with the different scales of tough and brawls the foes to defeat, we have the debuff and keep-alive while plinking away, we have hold and control and then wipe them out... The difficulty is making a damage/damage AT fit into that scenario...

Outside of that playstyle... there are tons of ways to handle it. However, they are not optimal. Whether it is wasting time or having to use tactics that are less than stand there, defeat them and run to the next group.

Anyway, definitely not saying it is impossible, but it seems rather difficult and many people just seem to want Blasters to just be able to do it.
Where as, so far, the Blasters have always been a bit more twitchy. And some people are questioning if it is really wrong to have one AT that is like that. I think that's where the real differences of opinions are coming from... I think anyway...

But they could still, in theory, be made a lot more survivable, a little more damaging, and not really that much more like the other ATs than they already are.
And yes, this is correct. There are quite a few reasonable people with suggestions that can make things better.
However, there are some who do suggest what you've said there, hehe. Alas, there are always a few, aren't there?

And, to be honest, I don't even mean to put down the notion of having armored blaster-types in this game. That could totally work, I'm quite sure.
It just would be far too radical a departure of what the Blaster is. And there are many of us who love Blasters as they are (improvements needed or not).
Anyway, I think the problem does come in balancing around a completely different playstyle and risking losing the successful playstyle they do currently have.
I very much would like to see more people enjoy playing Blasters and doing so successfully. I just think it is a tricky business of balancing to figure out how to capture the excitement of the Blaster without keeping the inherent difficulty.
Hopefully, worst case scenario... increasing the mission difficulty will bring along that same excitement for those of us who enjoy it with current Blasters.

Again, I do have faith in the team to improve them without ruining things.

It is rubbish. And I've learned that this is the basis of many people's argument. I don't disagree that Blasters deserve some improvements (and I think that improvements made do not have to be anything close to wholesale changes).
I do not, however, agree with the basis of which many people are using to judge this and I do not agree with the demand that all should cater to this mindset that the default difficulty of the game is pathetic and has no bearing on balance.
Unfortunately, the power creep has led to the mainstream mindset/playstyle (true majority or not) to playing cranked up difficulty, AoE and speed through.
The mainstream playstyle used to be different. Now that people have adopted this and it has become more and more prevalent, we've reached the point where those that see the game that way, believe it needs to be balanced more for that style (that all powersets should fit into that playstyle... even though some powers' balancing factors were designed around a very different pace and approach).

Whether or not the developers agree and/or decide to... That's up to them.
And I'm no longer going to argue with people clamoring for it.

    We'll see what happens.

In the end, I don't imagine that the developers are going to do anything to ruin my fun, so I'm okay with it.
  5. lol, you can't win, Maden!!
I thank you and there's no problem with doing one per post, as far as I'm concerned.
  6. I have always wanted to see access to Paragon and the Rogue Isles for either faction.
    And...

I've always wanted that as well.
Villains defeated in paragon end up in a jail (or shipped back to the R.I.) and Heroes in the Rogue Isles end up in an Arachnos cell (or are recovered back to Paragon City... the parenthetical options for just in case my prefered options are not possible).

I admit, I made the rather poor move of commenting without watching.

Yeah... It is absolutely not as clear cut as I thought it might be before watching. I think all the ridiculousness surrounding the number of horrible reports (which, unfortunately, occur somewhat regularly, with or without media hoopla) tainted my approach on this. I don't normal comment without checking into it. My bad.

He was charging people and I didn't expect that. That changes things a lot and I was wrong. I thought he'd be stumbling about like a good zombie... this guy was aggressively invading people's space.
Dressed as a zombie or not... that might get you shot.
  8. I honestly don't jive with all the negativity I've seen about the Green lantern movie.

I really don't know, and I'm curious to watch it again, but my wife and I both very much enjoyed it.
Neither of us are very knowledgeable of GL and the comics (the only GL experience I really have was, as a child, he was my favorite member of the old Super Friends cartoons... mainly because that was the best super power ever).
We didn't go to see it in the theatre. We rented it as soon as it became available and we had no - or possibly somewhat low - expectations, to be honest.
That last bit may be why we enjoyed it more than most around here seemed to have.

It didn't exactly blow me away as a great movie, but it was completely enjoyable and I thought it was a successful ride of fun for an origin story of an awesome super power.

There's room for another bet, if you want to try and win back your earnings, Arcana...

Also, meant to say this before... I love the costume, Laz (New Ruler of Maths).
  13. It's funny, I recently started a character that will not use the trains.
It's just a rule for this character that I found myself deciding upon while playing, and facing my first decision to leave Atlas and head to Kings Row...
I opted to fight my way through the sewer network to get there (which was fun!).
And I realized that taking the train was just entirely too unglamorous for this character (as opposed to fighting through the sewers, lol, but there is some sense to that).
It's weird, because I could make the same distinction with several other characters of mine that I never limited as such.
I guess this character's hubris is just SO MUCH a part of his persona that it stood out as a problem for me, hehe (a good problem!).
So, he flies from zone to zone (sometimes through another zone) to travel around... And then they released the TUNNEL system and... you know what... that's not so unglamorous!

    Haha...
  14. Okay, I'll ask it...

So, who could they cast to play Wonder Woman.........

  15. Hahaha, well done, Arcana.

As a demo editor and an RPer that tries to use emotes like a puppeteer... I applaud and appreciate your efforts!

    However... today's day is Laz's!

Congratulations, Laz! Today's Ruler Of The Maths!!
(What, this was a title fight, right?)

At this point, I do not consider the issue as dead and will continue to advocate for the issue to be addressed in some manner in the future, however right now there are other issues which are much higher on the priority list for us to address.

FYI: This issue, while seemingly simple, is actually very complicated. It involves not only development time from Paragon but also development time from PlayNC in Austin and potentially support from Seattle. This is not a task that would be easily accomplished and would involve a significant investment of time. This, along with the complexity of how to actually award the badges under the new system (annual badges just *don't work* under the new business model as years subscribed are not tracked in the same manner), are the major roadblocks preventing this from being resolved anytime in the near term.

As an additional FYI, additional CS tickets should not be filed regarding this issue. While I do understand that this may be disappointing to some of you, unfortunately no amount of appeals will fast track this project.

Thanks and my apologies to have to be the bearer of bad news.

Indeed. And thanks for continuing to advocate about it and not let it become a dead issue on the other side of things too.
  18. One of the great, indeed.

I hate to say this, but I honestly didn't realize he was still alive. I mean that with zero disrespect towards him and only an acknowledgment of my ignorance on that matter.

And yes, I particularly loved Fahrenheit 451 as well. A great English teacher in highschool gave me the copy that I still have.

Thank you for making this voyage all the more interesting, Mr. Bradbury!

    So, yeah...
It is super easy for a fan, like me, of Watchmen to not be thrilled with this stuff.

However, I don't see it as anything that comes close to capturing the original work (or even attempting to)...
I prefer to look at things like this as testaments to the great characters and great work that was done. And people, old fans and potential new fans, can enjoy some (hopefully fun, hopefully entertaining... would be nice if they achieve something more, as the original work did) comicbook panels and stories of the brilliant world and the amazing characters of Watchmen.

In the end, it is little different than new comicbooks coming out for Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, et cetera.
Alan Moore's work certainly deserves that level of appreciation. Of course, one could argue, and I could agree, that his work deserved to not be corrupted or tainted, hehe... but, eh... it's only comicbooks!
It's not like his characters didn't make some appearances in the past.

While not a collector or reader... I am certainly curious about these and will have to peruse them some day.
Afterward, I'll probably have a bunch of vitriolic remarks for the lack of quality or the missing of the mark or some such thing... Until then... I'm peacefully okay with it, hehe.

    Besides... it's already happened.
While I'm typing this, I already know that I'm lying about being okay with them.
It's late December, and I'm closing the final book of the Before Watchmen run. I'm throwing it against the wall, in anger...

I'm in my old house, reading through the first page of Chapter 4...

It's several weeks before that... my friend is handing me the Watchmen tradepaperback. I silently doubt my friend's words about how great it is...

My mind is racing with excitement as I read about Walter Kovacs...

It's a cool June evening... I'm typing this reply...

  21. Just want to offer my feedback again.

Zwill, Community team, this entire thing is a non-issue for me.
I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for wanting to give us a chance to affect what image is used on these forums.
I know and understand things can, and often do, change and the nature of best laid plans and all that...
I find it utterly ridiculous to take this end result negatively. I mean no offense to anyone, but that is my honest and true opinion.

I appreciate all the effort this company gives to integrate the community into actual development of ideas.
From costume pieces to powersets... It's a wonderful thing.
I am, honestly, a bit mortified by the reaction to this situation.
I have respect for the people making these decisions and for the very nature of making these decisions (and all the many factors that are involved).
It is sad that so many people seem to blindly react in ways that would logically lend things to transition into not bothering to keep the community involved at all.
My reaction here, though, has nothing to do with a fear that you would stop involving the community... You've shown a pretty great insistence on pushing forward with such approaches and I don't see you so easily daunted.
I just find it a bit of a shame when some people react so strongly, and negatively, over a rather simple thing that was a kind gesture to begin with.

Thanks again, Zwill and everyone involved.

I agree completely that there's no problem with an agreed upon approach to just beat things up for the specific ixp.

To be honest, I agree with some who've said that makes more sense than beating the champion of the well 5 times. I always enjoy more generic, less specific, content for repetitive runs when necessary... Battling the troops makes a ton more sense to repeat than the final encounter over and over
  24. Here's those shots I took on Sunday (the textures and models look fine to me):

And, while we're at it... I'd love this backpack option!

And I don't think we should be concerning ourselves with Freebie Friday options... They can put them in the store and charge or whatever they want to do. I just would love to see these options, for sure!
  25. I was just taking screenshots of those helmets in a First Ward arc today, because I was thinking that they'd make a great option for players!

And then I noticed the backpacks these guys were wearing (and took some pics, because those would be great as well)... I'm honestly not sure who or what they were now... I had just joined a team to help my friend in the middle of a First Ward arc that I'd not yet done.
