  1. I'm not one of those people that uses this word as the new catch phrase or whatever, but...

    EPIC!

    Awesome job, Mr. Pearlman!

  2. Haha, well, if that's the truth (and regardless if it is or isn't), just wanted to say Love ya, BABs!

Yay! Seriously... pet peeves are not to be celebrated!

    All that said... carry on!!

Oh, also... I felt like most of the peeves listed in the previous threads were more so examples of obviously bad forms of interacting and role-playing. Some, not so much, of course, but most that everyone agreed upon were just common courtesy and sense.
Sort of like listing "People that beat strangers with a baseball bat" as a pet peeve, haha!

Okay,I said my piece... carry on!!

Yeah, I noticed that and remember that... It definitely seemed to mean something... whether or not it is something that'll be as near as what they were referring to, who knows... But I felt like it pretty likely meant that it was actually being worked on.
When they answer things with "We can't talk about that right now..." that triggers the alarm that it (or something to do with that aspect) is actually in the works. As opposed to the previous responses of, "we know, it's just not on the schedule yet, etc.".

Who knows (they do) and we'll see (when? I don't know!!!)...

I also asked if the pools were going to be chlorinated, but I didn't get a straight answer...

Sounds like you've made a good choice, but this just made me want to mention that Shield Defense has the power Shield Charge that works similarly to Lightning Rod. I know, for a while, Shield/Electric combos were all the rage for two teleporting AoE attacks!
Still, Fire sounds like a good combo for consistent damage too.

I'm not much of a numbers guy though... I tend to just come up with character ideas and trust (hope) that the game makes those combinations fun. Fortunately, this game is pretty great about any and all powersets being good enough!
  6. Did you know? Dominators do have Illusion... The absence of Illusion is just an illusion.

    Disbelieve!

  8. Wait... What was that non-soup soup?? Ack!!

    Bonne chance, S.S.!

I'll keep the zapping up while you're gone.
  9. It's my opinion that, if there were to be some sort of visual identifier for VIP or Free, it should be something that one has to look for and not be clearly visible upon simply seeing the character (such as somewhere in the character info tabs, like the badges page).
Although, it'd be best if it was something that one could discover through searches probably... hmmm...

Another idea is just simply giving an automatic response to tells saying This player does not have full access to the tell system or some such thing.

All the jokes aside, this isn't about creating an easy identifier for processing... This is just about making the game experience better and smoother for everyone and putting some information in the hands of experienced players.

For the most part... I think people knowing that a player is a free player would make them want to help and give them a good playing experience.
Much like when we all flock to a new player on the forums.

Yes, there will always be some lousy people.

Besides... if we can't tell who is Free or not... How can we avoid obtaining one of their deadly FP viruses??
  10. If you can get a visual on them...
The free players are the ones acting as mounts with VIPs on their backs, playing polo.

Oh, also, I like what you're asking and I think some sort of way to clarify a player's standing may bring more positives than negatives and would be an overall good idea.
  11. While it is obvious that such a thread would bring on derision, hehe, I don't think the OP's position/opinion should be mocked (not saying anyone should follow my opinion on this... do what ya do!).

I knew that this business model would bring on such feelings for some people. It's pretty much unavoidable, whether or not the feelings are based on anything factual.

The only aspects that *I* can see that this might be true for are for the ultra rare finds in the Super Packs: Black Wolf and Corsair (uh...) Flying Disc Thingy...

Now, it's not true that anyone needs to be insanely rich to afford those things (and some could even get super lucky, of course), but... from a fiscally limited and/or fiscally responsible and/or pragmatic perspective, chasing after such rewards by dumping the cash in may require a boat load of funds before one would even consider it a viable option.

What do we have that'd cause problems of the OP's sort? Enhancement Slot additions? Other storage improvements? Super Pack goodies? Buying the Store IOs??
If you're subscribed, the points can add up... especially if you stayed subscribed for the period before Freedom launched (those bonus points really helped).

If you're not Tier 9 VIP, then the Tier 9 rewards could be seen as another major expense.

In the end, all of these things can come down to patience. Depending on how far away you are from a veteran status or how many things you want beyond your 400 points/month... All things are attainable without spending anything further.

Still... if those things from the Super Packs (even if you just want the costumes... it's not guaranteed that $15 will get you what seems to be of a $5 value) and/or the costumes from Tier 9 VIP are currently out of your reach and the things that you wish you could play with right now... I can understand how you might feel this way and I cannot entirely disagree with your disappointment.

It'd be nice if everything was offered up within the same price ranges and reach for the user.
Want this awesome costume set? Spend this normal amount of money and/or this normal amount of points and you have it right now.

Instead, there are absolutely gaps between players these days. The gaps contain fancier and flashier rewards under the Freedom business model.

All that being said... It's not quite all that bad.

Haha, indeed... it reminds me that there regularly is imitation bits (and other things) mixed in with real bits. Not the most appealing advertisement for those of us who use their skull's innards.

However... I have finally discovered an excellent 100% fake cheese that my wife and I make pizzas and nachos with. Not going to get into it too much (and I am not preachy at all about any such thing), but after studying what exactly milk is naturally... and then what is added to it (whether it be before or after it comes out)... and after having sinus problems that were better after cutting out milk products... the search for a good (taste and texture) alternative cheese was fruitless (yes, I said that intentionally)... Until recently... Woohoo!

I have no idea why the writer thought either statement would make his actions seem anything but *worse*. Both admissions make his acts even more reprehensible.

Actually, its a pet peeve of mine that there seems to be a growing subculture of the internet that believes "sorry I was drunk" is an excuse for anything. As far as I'm concerned its an admission that you're aware you're a harmful person when intoxicated, but you do it anyway because you could give a damn about anyone else.

Indeed. I shouldn't have worded my post with absolute certainty, since I truly don't know with this case.
I'm not one who tends to diminish the potential ignorance and stupidity behind other people's actions/words.

Sadly, in a business that is (sadly) all about grabbing attention, it seems most likely. Fact is, anything and everything posted is an attempt to grab attention. And, unfortunately, the negative (and, often times, the most ridiculously cases of negativity) tend to get the most attention... As can be observed on these (and most any) internet forums... Never mind "news outlets" and the like.
With such a move, this guy may have gotten his name on radars that he never would have otherwise (you know... without writing something interesting and using thought and skill to garner attention/publicity/success).

    /end mini rant

But for me, his actual moment of full-on-crossing-over is when he murders Dooku. The entire fight between Dooku and Anakin at the beginning of Part III is a mirror of Luke's fight with Vadar in Part VI. The scene where the Luke/Anakin fight Dooku/Vadar across the screen while the camera tracks horizontally is nearly shot for shot identical in both movies (III and VI), and so is the music. After Luke takes Vadar's hand, he fights off the Emperor's influence and his own rage to spare Vadar and declare himself "a Jedi Knight, like my father before me".

Anakin - well, the punk just cuts off Dooku's head. Hello, Dark Side, and game over. The confronation with Windu and the spiral down to murdering the younglings was inevitable after that point.
    Troof!
I suppose the only difference with what you and I said is that Anakin's inner conflict was still stronger until around the time he knelt before Palpatine/Sidious.
I agree with what you are saying there though. It was a progression of things, absolutely.

I suspect that he uses the Force to essentially slightly adjust Anakin's worldview. Certainly Anakin's behavior before that and after was markably different.
There are a number of ways it can be interpreted, for sure. What you say is very possible (and I basically feel like Palpatine is practically always exerting some elements of corruption, hehe. So, I agree).
Even without that though, it's also very possible and believable that, once things have been laid out as they have and once things have been done, Anakin is in for a penny, in for a pound.
He dangerously disobeyed Mace's instructions, he helped kill Mace (inadvertently or not), he'd already been strongly compelled to listen to Palpatine and distrust the Jedi (maybe Mace's intent to kill "defenseless" Palpatine sent that distrust over the edge)... What is likely to happen if Anakin doesn't go along with Palpatine full tilt at this point? The Jedi will be against Palpatine (obviously), clearly Anakin wants Palpatine alive and capable of teaching him how to save Padme and the Jedi are going to punish and/or be against Anakin... he was pushed into a corner and now he's basically made his decision.
Really, beyond making a decision... he has resigned himself to the decisions that have basically been made for him now (that evil ******* Palpatine!). He is a defeated shell of a man, now willing to painfully obey whatever is necessary to get what he wants at the end of it.

So, taking Palpatine's words and lead as truth... The Jedi are now the enemy that will prevent Anakin from what he truly, most wants (to save Padme and now his own freedom is at stake as well).
What must be done? Destroy them all. Prevent them from interfering, as they most certainly will attempt to do.
It is extreme, indeed. And I have little to no doubt that Palpatine exerting influence over him in his speech (and as he had been doing for all those years when they'd meet).

The only reasons I babbled about this right now are:
    • I don't think people should believe that someone couldn't reach those changes without mystic evil forces manipulating them. It wasn't really a quick flip of a switch with Anakin... it had been planted and growing for a long time and it involved intense levels of personal power and delusion. Those things can be far more powerful than mystical forces, hehe.
    • I'm bored and a bit lonely today and saw your comment and felt like babbling about it, haha.
    • And... most importantly... it's fun (for me, anyway).
  21. Oh c'mon... obvious attempt at publicity/notoriety for the "journalist".

The person who gave that speech...was George Lucas.
While funny when used in this new context... what he was talking about was third parties altering existing works. Not the original artists re-editing things.
That was in the heyday of all that terrible colorization going on of black and white movies.
And, since he was the leader of many innovations and advancements to come in that field... he knew, all too well, what more could (and can) be done.

I'll say this. I do not disagree that there were some really poor alterations made on the special editions.
However, there is also a ton of amazing fixing up and improvements on the image quality. People forget just how visible those boxes around the ships flying through space were.
Back in the day... on the big screen on film projectors... it wasn't so obvious. That's not it, of course (and, again, there were some bad decisions made... the music number in Jedi being the worst, in MY opinion... despite the Han and Greedo moment in ANH... on that, what is weird is that, when you look at the original... nothing is really revealed. It's just a big puff of smoke and Greedo is dead. I know what I always assumed and thought I saw... just like most everyone... however, obviously, Lucas had different thoughts and that is likely WHY the original didn't even define, visually, what happened. It's weird, for sure... and another bad edit job in the special edition, in my opinion. I think those special editions were major test beds and experiments and training for making the prequels and not as much care went into them. And, for us, that is indeed a shame... not an egregious offense, in my book though, lol). Anyway... there were a lot of very god quality fixes that they applied to the originals. And, again, this work was further results (and continued experimenting) of Lucas's amazing leadership in innovation and artistic and technological advancements.
George Lucas is a pioneer and an amazing artist. Anyone who doesn't recognize this has missed a major truth in film history. And that history is continuing to be made.
I don't worship idols or blindly follow anyone. Many people just don't understand that he's just an artist that does what he wants to... as one should. That's how he did what he did, accomplished what he has, and continued to accomplish so much more beyond a couple of films.
His accomplishments with ILM are on par with moving from indoor frescoes in plaster on walls to oil painting with canvases and palettes outside that opened the door for expression and impressionists.

    *shrug*

    Thank the maker!

We have some pretty spectacular community leaders on Victory and I've never found the globals less than helpful. Whether it's advise or help with an AV.
The forums are not a good representation of the server at all.
Honestly, the server runs the gamut. Your crowd may not be out in the spotlight, or easy to find... but, with such a population, they're probably there somewhere.

Anyway, sorry... but the Virtue forums have never represented the experience I have in the game.
