Hopes aside... This game absolutely deserves to continue as does Paragon Studios.
If it can happen, by the well (haha, sorry), it should happen.
As for it being SOE...
Yeah, I would likely not take part. However, I would gladly see CoH saved and most everyone partake in it without me than see it go as it is currently planned to be. That would make me extremely happy. Of course, I'd rather a publisher that I will give my money to, but if it is SOE, so be it.
Companies should be interested in picking the game and, especially, this team up.
The real question will likely be NCSoft's willingness to do such business. -

I know it doesn't really matter, but I finally remembered the right name of the community member that told me about you guys talking about my character, lol... Beastyle!!
Sorry, Beastie... I kept trying to think of it, but my brain is not functioning on all cylinders right now.
Tunnel Rat... can you just keep making FX for me anyway? Actually... I do need some animators for my current musical project... -
...I can't even read this right now, but I wanted to make sure you saw my thoughts about you and your work, Mr. Miller.
I'm just going to paste my first response directed to you and the team... I need to stop dwelling right now.
Man, it's hard to imagine the feelings and shock among you all right now. We feel it too, but still...
Anyway, you guys have long been the absolute BEST. From your designs to your work to the finished product and your abundant care and enthusiasm for this project and this community... It has never been matched by any other mmorpg. I'm not blowing smoke.
This game is in no shape or form a game that should be ending any time soon. It is insane that they have ended it. Totally insane.
I am most sad about losing the constant connection I've had with so many people. The Meet and Greets with the Paragon Studios... I'm really sad to think that there won't be another chance to attend a Herocon or another East Coast M&G for a chance to talk and hang out with you guys again.
Positron, your enthusiasm and love for this game was simply palpable when I met you in Boston. It was a pleasure talking with you and it has been a pleasure getting to enjoy your work.
SO many great people over there and you guys all worked to make a truly GREAT TEAM.
AND THIS COMMUNITY...
Gah... I swear I am telling the truth when I tell the story about how I used to visit these forums before I ever started playing here. I was busy with another game (in a galaxy far far away... before they ruined that one with the NGE) and I used to visit the Dev Digest and enjoy reading through different threads. Both for the interesting insights from developers and because of the great hilarity and wit that the entire community (customer and redname alike) shared.
When my previous game died, I knew I was bound for here. And here I've been ever since.
I wish I'd connected with many of you more than I had... but, more so... I am only realizing now just how much each and every one of you means to me.
Those of you I've disagreed with, those of you who have often been in agreement with... all of you with each of your defining personalities, quirks and oddities... I've loved our time together and I hope we have more.
So sudden... such a shock. I really didn't expect this at all. Completely surprised... -
Quote:I'm with ya. It's not a matter of faith or belief... just plain old effort. No point in not making the attempts.I honestly don't see myself getting involved in another MMORPG anytime soon. City of Heroes has been an unbelievable experience and I don't regret one minute I've spent playing it or working on our web sites, but I really don't want to get sucked into another game like I have this one. I'm still convinced that we're going to be able to rescue Paragon City, and we'll be pushing out Titan 2.0 in a new era of heroes, but if everything falls through and the unthinkable happens I will probably stick to single player games or games like Portal 2 that don't require massive time investments. Or honestly, what I'll probably do is buy a ton of games on gog.com that I missed or didn't have time for and scale my online activities way back.
Looking back...
Quote:I'd likely not move on to any other mmos (none that exist right now) for my gaming...
I would probably try and get a tabletop role-playing group together for a once a week sort of thing and get my thrills that way.
I guess I'd probably get back into playing Madden games maybe...
And the trouble and strife and I would likely play this game called Dungeon Lords that we were both enjoying playing before I convinced us to give the CoV free trial a whirl...
I might have to get an old school Marvel Super Heroes RPG campaign going with some of our CoH characters now and then.
That and try and join beta for CoH2: Universe Of Heroes!
I really didn't expect the game to be shut off... unless a new one was replacing it.
I absolutely will be looking to play some "tabletop" CoH with people. We need to set up some Skype or Google+ or whatever tools work best for some sessions.
Great necro! (See? I always said necro'ing threads can be very good) -

GO WILD.
(Ding 2k)Nice!
Try and take it easy during this, Zwill... and thanks for doing what you can to keep these forums going as long as they can during this "sunsetting".
Any advanced warning will be great... but I am sure you know this and will do what you can, if you can.
Thanks and hang in there, Andy, -
Quote:I can understand your, and others, disappointment in that, but think about the nightmare job for Zwill and the others if they open the floodgates further. You've already set the example and told people "No breaking the rules."
You don't need to continue making it so those of us unable to become VIP regardless of how much we may want to are restricted on features such as PMing friends and sharing personal information to stay in touch, or being involved in discussions on our own home servers between people we've grown very close to over the years.
This decision, honestly, is doing more harm than good. It's restricting players from having that last chance to be involved in the community.
It all sucks. However, I can't fault them for not making that change.
Although, I could certainly see how PMs would be great to have (I've never been Premium, so I forgot that's unavailable to you). -

Hahaha! Yes, it truly is! My wife and I love to throw that movie on from time to time. Always has an old school tabletop D&D vibe about it for me. There's more to it that makes it glorious, but that aspect always makes us enjoy it all the more.
Can we all get together and have some movie nights or something...
I was just in northern California during August and only managed to make it down to San Fran. I'd decided I would definitely be heading back to San Fran and continue my trek southward and I was going to 1) arrange it around a CoH meet and greet or 2) just show up at Paragon Studios.
There are worse reasons to be upset about things right now, but that's bothering me!!
Uh... anyway... back to the laughs...
"Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!" -

Tunnel Rat, you're responsiveness and openness with the community was super appreciated and your spunky personality seemed to fly off the screen in the coffee chats, hehe!
Your reaction to my Zox'Oculox costume was a highlight of my time here and your care to put in aura options to accommodate costume concepts of that type is both awesome and a sign of being super smart in always taking things in to make things better, any way you can.
I remember logging in one night and seeing Beastyle in game, and I just happened to be playing Zox'Oculox. He sent me a tell saying that you guys had been talking about that character during lunch!
Haha, I'm glad the product you guys worked on, allowed me to give you guys something back... talk about rebounds.
Anyway... your spirit and skills made you another wonderful member of the greatest MMO team in the business.
It's a complete shame that the rug has been pulled out the way it has, but that doesn't change the fact that Paragon Studios and City Of Heroes are the best and delivered quality, tons of fun, customer satisfaction and the best online super hero experience without exception.
You all deserve to be treated like champs, because you are.
Thank you!! -
Love you guys!
Maybe I'll finally find the time to finish up some of my pages and characters that I never got around to doing right.
Thanks so much for providing us with Virtueverse. One of my greatest enjoyments from the community, no doubt. -
One of us...
Actually, that was always the great thing about this entire staff... The entire team has always felt like "one of us", because they are, if not literally like some of the players turned employees, then just figuratively.
And not just one of us, but we often felt like one of them... Because we were all in this together.
I don't think we ever knew each other from Virtue and we didn't really interact as player/dev... but... we're family. -

I haven't been crying (but there's zero wrong with doing so and I'd admit it), although a few replies and people's stories have indeed brought a tear to my eye or brought me on the verge.
I have just been in an absolute gloomy daze though. My wife is pretty upset about it. Not crying, but really bummed and more than a little pissed.
We both went through rather sucky things with SOE's SWG and that never really entirely leaves you.
Still... I've been reading through so much of what people have been sharing... I can't quite pull myself away from it.
*big hugs for all* -
Good idea, TA.
I'll pop back in here and add mine in.
I've also been thinking that I should finish up a few things and share the demo creations I've made. Always left things just a touch too unfinished for releasing, but hey... Now or never, sort of. -
I'm just going to be short right now and simply say, thank you.
This game, because of your team, is the best in the business. You all deserve to be treated like champions, because you have been and still are.
I am sorry that the corporate knowitalls have deemed this the correct step to take and I truly hope all of your next endeavors come timely and bring great happiness and success.
Indeed, there is much to celebrate. And I respect your stance on keeping positive. Despite the fact that it should absolutely not end this way, I agree with and share that positive outlook. I mean, I sincerely wish that Paragon Studios could some how get the financial support and be able to continue. There seriously is no other team out there that I'd have a quarter of the faith in as I have in Paragon Studios. If it were at all possible... I'd highly recommend it.
Anyway... It was a pleasure to meet you on the east coast a couple of times and I am truly saddened that I couldn't make it out to the west coast for any of the meets.
I will keep in touch and hope our paths cross again.
