  1. Well, that's good news!
I haven't been playing with the AE much. I have run a few arcs with friends for some RP action missions, but didn't pay attention to the rewards.

So, it is actually making new calculations as the noncombat NPCs leave, eh?
It didn't do that before, did it?

Any idea what the reduction numbers are?

  3. Seriously, while the art is great on the pieces for the upcoming Mutant booster, I can't be the only player that was expecting something more like the 2051 Post World War IV Fleshy Headed Mutants...
(I mean... certainly not with War Witch at the helm of this game's design!! Where is your national pride, Miss Bianco??)

"Fleshy headed mutant are you friendly?"

"No way eh. Radiation has made me an enemy of civilization!"

    "Ow! Take off, you hoser!"

David and Jay and everyone... Please consult the above linked video (It's only a minute long) for further understanding of mutant characteristics.

    Thank you for your time!!
  4. Well, this wasn't "quick", but after I saw your post it made me think of this one I had happened upon many months ago... But I couldn't remember the name of the character... Which led to plenty of futile searching...
Which finally resulted in me finding what I was looking for.
    Rib Tickler
Not my character... Never met the character nor the player... Found it on a random page search some time in the past.
It might not even be the best page or writing or anything that I've seen, but it stood out enough in my mind to want to suggest when I saw your post.

I simply loved the origin. It was a long time ago since I read it though, so it may be different than what I remember, hehe... Giving it a quick glance right now though... and I see one quote from his character that I love...
"I never understood prop comedy until I stabbed someone with a fork."
Haha! May not be your cup of tea, but it is mine!

Also, feel free to check out EK and Zox'Oculox's pages if you like!

I think those tails and sword may very well be difference makers in people buying this one.
Out of all the things I've seen from the pack, those seem to be the most widely usable ones for different concepts/looks.

May not scream "mutant" to a lot of people, but all of the booster packs were just small subsets of possibilities within the origin's genre.

I knew there was one I wasn't remembering!
Yep, I love the rock fists look, but the mallets just didn't fit the concept I was toying with. I could probably live with it if I really wanted to make the character, but I wasn't that into it (And had plenty of other alts already).
  8. On Topic:

Another thing I realized is that Power Customization really cut out a lot of One Power Killing a Powerset for me... Mainly because I tend to be a concept sort of player and power-chooser. The visuals can do a power in for me.

I had a SS/Invuln Brute that I ended up remaking as SS/SR because I was a bit turned of with the glows and effects on the Invuln powers.
Now, with the No FX options... I'd have been happy to keep it as Invuln, hehe.

So... Power Customization has saved a lot of powersets for me!

Also, as a Bots/FF MM, I can only imagine the annoyance factor of being a Kin with Speedboost.
I think that putting shields on all of my pets and teammates every 4 minutes is likely my limit.

And that really is how it works. With a Scrapper, if you screw up, you have ample time to do something about it, even if that's to use limited consumables. With a Blaster, if you screw up, you're ******, if you'll pardon my English.
That is exactly what I've been saying.
I love that element of playing a Blaster.
For me... it feels a bit more like when reading Spider-Man.
Oh, sure, he's super tough and all... But really, since you're so implanted in his inner dialog... and he gets beat up so much... Heading into a base with a bunch of angry baddies is usually wrought with some tension and use of his quick wit and spidey sense to make it through as unscathed as possible.
That's how I feel soloing as a blaster. "Use your head Spidey... Whoa, who's this guy?? Ack! Better think quick!"

Some people love being in this sort of situation and some people don't.

That may be the problem. Blasters are NOT a safe AT to solo, ever.* They aren't particularly safe on teams either, unless you can rely on your teammates to be on the ball, all the time. If you don't like the high-risk playstyle, the AT might not be for you.

Incidentally, after playing Blasters so much my first Scrapper to 50 was /regen (if I misclick I die) and then I had a stupid amount of fun with /SR (if the RNG gods aren't appeased by my sacrifice of a billion zillion Rikti I die).

*With the possible exception of Sonic/Energy. Seriously, Siren's Song is practically cheating. At that point you're soloing like a Dom who kills faster.
    Haha! Exactly!
And, funny enough... /Regen and /SR are my two scrappers as well!
  10. *sigh* Haha... I'm trying and trying to not post an entry since I'm not allowed to for a few more weeks...

How about this for an optional pop-up box - "Do you wish to accept this change to the game?"

Hehe, I had hoped that I included an adequate number of smilies to indicate that I was kidding. I don't want to actually be passing false information around, I was only making a joke and hoped the smiles gave it away! Secondary Mutation does not have a prompt!

Maybe a pop up on every single power! "Are you sure you want to expend the endurance to activate this power?"

About the other crap... passing around blame... It's ridiculous and a waste of time to reply to Billz or anyone else about it further. It has been made clear over and over... but, quite frankly, people are complaining and whining and hating on players with a differing opinion instead of looking objectively at what was the case and what truly happened.
That's fine. It's your right to be that way. I won't even call you names for it or anything.
I'll just back anyone on getting an auto accept/decline option in there, because it is obviously a very desired thing.

  13. Thanks David!
I started typing a reply last night that was suggesting to people that, maybe, since canine tails and the like are so requested, we just may be getting them as part of our great game's free additions. So, don't be too upset that it is not in this pack (I'd, personally, rather see something with so much general interest and application not bought in a booster pack. That's just me. So, no new animal parts in this booster doesn't upset me).

And I say all of this, especially so, because we were already told that "bushy tails" (among a few other things mentioned on a short list) are "in production".

Mutant origin is a widely varied concept, so don't be too upset that it doesn't fit your expectations.
Also, relax and trust the awesomeness that is our new-ish Art Lead, David Nakayama.
Especially when talking about some of the ideas about more simple pieces and parts that can be matched and meshed with other parts... See here that it is on our Art Lead's mind as well!

I had a feeling you'd chime in before I got around to posting today. Great job and thanks!

If you could only tell us how/when-ish we may be seeing these other things...

I just know that I used to complain about Malta like little girl, and these days I slap them around like errant stepchildren. I'm not sure what changed along the way, but I guess -1 enemies are easier than one would think.

    *by the way*
When I talk about mixed messages, I'm not kidding around. I just wanted to point out that in this very thread a person told me that he's soloing +1x3 spawns with a Blaster solo by staying in melee all the time an never batting an eye and another person told me that Blasters shouldn't be played solo and that they should be very difficult to play like this even at default difficulties. I don't mean to question anyone's position on this, but what do I take away from it?
    Ohhhhh... -1!!
    Yep, my mistake!
I can see how that is more fun. Something has always kept me from going -1, but for fun's sake, I am going to give that a whirl.

As to people saying it can't be done, I think it's proven that they're wrong and as to what you should take away from that, I think you know full well! Your mileage may vary! That seems to be what it comes down to.
Not that this helps in figuring out how you can manage to enjoyably solo your blaster.
Perhaps it is just not for you.
Soloing as a Blaster isn't something I think can usually be done by complacently sweeping through and wiping everyone out (Of course, some powersets may very well be like that, I really can only speak for Elec/Elec and Archery/Dev in an experienced degree).
When/if I get complacent as a blaster while soloing, I tend to get knocked onto the floor.
Greens and break frees and wakies are our friends, but I don't exactly gobble them every second or anything. I do tend to combine everything for those (And blues for a quick pop after a nuke to then use Power Sink and have be right back... but that's usually not even needed while soloing anyway).

I know I've seen my friend not really manage to solo as a blaster. They just don't seem to enjoy being so frail and having to be in that tight situation all the time. A lot of people don't function so well when their health bar isn't green.
And there are plenty of other reasons that certain ATs and/or powersets may not be the right choice for different individuals.

With a terrible list (Haha, just my opinion! ) you end up winning the thread with the best name I've seen in a while... Boom-Zooka!!

    Haha, brilliant!
  17. So, what we've learned here is that Elec/Elec Blasters rule... right?

Honestly, I just wanted to mention to Sam that, my soloing on my Blasters tends to stay at a difficulty setting of even level and x1 with Bosses and the like.

Complaining about not being able to solo and leaving your settings at x3 seems... odd to me!

I'll have to try and solo at that setting just to feed my own curiosity... But, I'm sure you have your own reasons for keeping those settings. I guess you'd rather not do it if you can't do it to that degree.

Edit:Actually... back before the difficulty changes, I used to run at... Bah, I can't recall the name it had, but the 3rd setting, I believe. Not sure how that relates to today's settings... I think it worked out to be +1 level with bosses.

    To the OP...

You know... I always thought I'd love Claws, but I always seem to balk when I consider Focus and Follow Up... Obviously, it is a great set (Enough people love it and I've seen it working beautifully in action)... But those powers actually seem to kill my interest for whatever reason.
Eh, one day I'll follow through on a claws character and love it, I'm sure.
  18. Well, Captain Collision comes to mind immediately based on your first choice.
Capt. Collision, if you liked that.
Depending on your concept, Collision Kid (But it doesn't sound like that was what you were going after).

    Collision Crusader...

    King Collision, Collision King

    Captain Kinetic Collision from Kentucky

    Captain Collide

    The Great Collide

    Captain Kaboom

    Collision Blast

    Frenetic Kinetic

    Collision Commander
    Collision Command

    Collision-Man

    The Caped Collide

    Mr. Collide

    Collision-Crash

    Captain Blap

    Collider

The Collidinator (Names don't always have to be proper words)

Or go with a certain color for the costume and/or power customization:
    The Crimson Collision
    Cobalt Collision

    Best of luck, mate!

Thanks, you two. I've tried explaining it before, but after certain people throw around immature insults, my patience for responding to them leaves me.

  20. As a life-long Electric/Electric/Electric Blaster...

    I never took Voltaic Sentinel.
I've been meaning to make a second build with it, but... have slacked on doing that.

It seems like a great power (When thought of as an attack, like mentioned earlier)... It was more of a thematic exclusion on my part, plus I wasn't convinced I would have liked it at the time.

I can't think of a powerset killed by a power for me... I tend to not mind skipping one power if I don't like it. I think several powers would have to be bothersome for the powerset to be "killed"

Quickly, about blasters and melee and soloing and whatnot...
Sam, it is (As you seem to understand) a matter of personal playstyle and preference. What I mean is more about what you find stressful about being constantly on edge and all that... I find absolutely thrilling and it is what really sold me on Blasters and (Thusly) on this game. I had such a great time learning this game as a solo blaster, it may be why I am still here!

Also, just for the record... I am a bit odd in that I don't use any fancy IO sets or frankenslotting or anything (I have a celerity stealth on DASH, but... I never even use it, hehe).
AND... I am a weirdo who does not like using Inspirations other than Greens, Blues, Break Frees and Wakies... Mainly because (wait for it) I don't like the visuals of the buff inspirations (I hate those floating symbols... we hateses them!!)
Oh, and yes, I solo more often than not.

Now, an E3 Blaster is different than the norm, so I can't really speak for all blasters... But my ability (With all of those restrictions of standard IOs and rarely EVER popping any red, orange, yellow, purple inspirations) to solo effectively from range, in melee and against groups has been pretty fantastically fun and achievable.
With the E3, I usually get tripped up when I simply can't decide "How shall I take out this group"... the E3 is the Blaptroller. Range, Melee and three holds.
And... Laughing at the sleep component of the powers seems a bit absurd to me, because I can't tell you how many times those shaking enemies around me have given me enough time to do my thing and survive another tough fight!
Same for knockback. Those two seconds (Or however long it is) that it takes for them to get up can be quite costly... for them!

I could ramble all day about my love for my E3 Blaster and all the ways I enjoy being at range in melee and the different ways of mitigation the powers afford. Holds, shakes (I hate calling it sleep, in this instance), knockbacks, and, of course, endurance drain.
However, the greatest mitigation of all... defeating them with damage.

And one other thing, Sam... You mention long fights a lot.
With Blasters, there shouldn't be "long fights"!
Hehe, but when fights do go longer than desired... run, fly about, use holds and whatever mitigation... keep fighting, pop a green, hang in there... Ahhhh... so thrilling to finish the last guy of a stubborn group in a missfest of a fight where I'm left standing with just a sliver left of health!!!

No worries... E3s are just the love of my life and all, so I needed to let that out.
  21. Hehe, coming back to this after working late probably made my wording a bit off, but yeah "coming to Castle's defense" is a bit overly stated and not what I meant, hehe. I just see Developers (And any artist just trying to do their thing in any form of entertainment) come and mention struggles to do things right by the customers/community/audience and I feel for them. Castle, though, has proven many times that he's well equipped at handling that end of the job.

Anyway, Opinator, you are right about the real topic that should be highlighted here... the rooting of the power.
I, too, was annoyed to see this discussion dragged into here.
I had said what I had to say about it weeks ago and decided to drop out of it until just recently. Demeaning comments just got to me this time around. I don't think I said anything wrong nor fell out of line with my comments, but there's zero point in continuing that particular conversation any further.
Since you showed a sense of logic and respect in your reply, I wanted to make clear my end of things, because I don't tend to come off as some halfwit complaining about an off-topic issue with tons of silly history.

Ah well, we all have those nights, I suppose.
  22. This reply turned out longer than I wanted, but understand that it is just a calm response. Trying to make myself clear (Regardless, I'll get plenty of negative comments thrown my way, as keeps happening any time I chime in about this topic, hehe).

I'm not looking for any arguments at all, I just thought this deserved a reply and I appreciate what you're saying.
Just so you know, since this was announced in Beta of I17, I, along with others began discussions about it and I've seen plenty of dismissal and gotten plenty of obnoxious comments thrown my way on the boards and in private messages.
I could copy and paste all of my posts about it and none of them were hyperbolic remarks or anything of the sort (Only just my previous two replies about it finally had me responding to people calling us crybabies, whiners and the like... Still, I tried using humor and not lowering myself to bickering). I just try and bring logic to it and hope to achieve understanding. Such is my want.

Let me just point out what you say above here... "The majority of this thread consists of people upset at the decision to bring the prompt back...".
The prompt that gives us the option of refusing an unwanted 20 minute effect (20 minutes is a big chunk of some people's play time. All other player cast buffs last 2-4 minutes... a piddly amount of time in comparison).
And, as you point out, some are (And have been) insisting that the prompt be taken out regardless of any options being put in.
There is dismissal. I'm not looking to pick a bone with you on this, it's just true that people have regularly expressed they don't want the prompt, whining buff-haters be damned.

I am not dismissing anyone or anything (This new rooting animation is different than the prompt and shouldn't be thrown at those who are happy to have their options back). I've been all for an option to auto accept/decline all along since I17 beta. I just don't believe the return of the option to decline should have waited for the auto accept option (As the Devs have not indicated that they will be doing that, nor how feasible or time-consuming it may be).
In a perfect world, we'd have that option and this discussion wouldn't be taking place

You have to remember/realize/understand that the power came with the prompt and was only taken out to counteract an exploit.
So, taking out the prompt stunk for those who liked it. It was a change that took away options we had.

Plenty of people who don't want the buff hate the prompt too. It's not people who want to decline the power vs. people who hate the prompt (As I believe you understand as well).

Many people who hate the prompt were all over anyone suggesting that we want the option back to decline.
So, yes, I brought some history into this thread...
But... wait... Look at the OP of this thread and its title.
Come on. It is further bashing of this change and people brought plenty of the history in here before I decided to reply. I came in defense of Castle who did the right thing. He restored the power's options. The rest of the devs can maybe help the people who dislike the prompt. Win/win

Ideally, I'd like to see Mystic Fortune disabled until a proper prompt can be programmed into the UI. That way, those who dislike the prompt will no longer have to deal with it, and those who prefer the prompt really can't complain because there is no random, obtrusive buff to worry about. Of course, then you invite the complaints of those who feel entitled by their $10 to randomly buff anyone they want...the lesser of three evils, perhaps?
I agree with all of this except that the power should never have lost the prompt unless/until another method of declining was present. So, it is not really a bandaid fix, it's reinstating what was (Hopefully until other changes are made). There is a difference.

If the power had never lost the prompt and we all asked the Devs to create an auto accept/decline feature, things would be better (But it was only removed due to an exploit).
And yes, really, if they want no prompt for the power, then it could be changed to last 2-4 minutes (And possibly no negative effects).

    *shrug*

I think too many people dismiss the Developers in their efforts to counter exploits and making improvements and changes for the sake of the fun of the game.

I got a nice negative comment about my post above... "Excessive *** kissing".
Why? Because I respect and thank Castle.
Nice stuff, hehe. Post that sentiment with your name attached and publicly, anonymous messenger.

Just frustrated with a lot of the negativity I've been seeing around here and I've been trying to counter act it with niceness and humor. I speak my mind, but I try to be respectful and interject some laughs (At least for myself).

I know all to well that things can be read the wrong way.
  23. Castle, you did right. Thank you.
There are reasons that Mystic Fortune had the prompt in the first place, right?

Later on, you were fixing an exploit and tried to do it without removing the prompt, but couldn't find a way in a timely fashion and, so, removed the prompt.
Something happened afterward and you found a way to put the prompt back in.

You did your job, mate. Thank you, as always.

The UI Team could really do a great thing and give an option to auto accept/decline and all will be greater than before.

Here's my view of it... The prompt gave players the ability to accept or decline the oddball power that is Mystic Fortune.
Removal of the prompt took away the ability to decline it, leaving players who liked the ability to decline it without any option.

People who do not like the prompt should be pushing for the UI change to include an auto accept/decline option instead of insisting that players who want to decline shouldn't be able to.

Thank you for including it in the first place and thank you for putting it back in.

It's not your fault, Castle (And all Developers), that many players cannot accept middle grounds and compromises between differing opinions and playstyles. This is a trait rampant through much of humanity.

You guys seemingly have to get everything 100% perfect without any oversights, otherwise the rabid dogs begin to feed on each other.

Clearly, dismissing players who don't want to be stuck with a 20 minute buff, debuff, visual and/or audio effect are not worthy of respect by some rather vocal (but certainly not whining) enemies of prompts.

Until there is an option to auto accept/decline, the prompt is the compromise.

P.S. to the OP... I'm sorry for your loss... and happy for her gain.

Can we all lighten up now and have some fun? If we work together, we can do better than when working against each other.

Honestly, blame exploiters for making the prompt go away the first time.

I have no issues with the prompt (It doesn't bother me and it makes some thematic sense to be asked for permission to have your fortune read, so I don't get the complaints), however, I'd love to see an auto accept/decline option for those who would like it.
I'd prefer to always have the option to accept or decline, personally. Never know when the right fortune teller will come by (As my Aunt Ezna always used to say).
