I managed to pick up the CoV one for very cheap (plus the month's play... I think I paid less than the month's pay for it, actually)...
And I also managed to pick up the CoH SE (new) for about $16 on Amazon one day. I know... I was very lucky in that regard...
However, then I picked up two for two friends at the Boston Meet and Greet.
They still had a few of those Hero Kit boxes for sale.
$20 for the code, the hero clix, the map and all... Including the month's subscription.
I am just mentioning this for two reasons...
One, don't say "never"... there are ways and chances...
Two, there is zero reason why they shouldn't offer these (just the in-game rewards, if they like) as $10 boosters, just like the GvE pack.
If I ever run into anything, I'll send you a PM, Flashrains, hehe.
Between Paypal and/or good faith, hopefully you can get these somehow... Beyond that... I hope they open them up for people to get somehow.
And... I hope we can color customize the prestige slide some day... (Haha... what? I had to say it!!)
Quote:I just really don't think that is true. Considering they released those Complete Hero Kit boxes with left over collector's edition stuff and you can still get your hands on them... I'm not sure it's an issue of that at all.It isn't just that they'd be unhappy, they could probably make a good case for being tricked into buying the Collectors edition under false claims of exclusivity and sue NCSoft. May not be likely to win, but it may be more of a risk the NCSoft is willing to take.
Besides which, Amazon still has copies of both for sale.
Also, I don't think there is a chance at all that any such case could be made.
Having something before anyone else could have otherwise is exclusivity.
I think that that idea is a very negative stretch. I understand that companies need to protect themselves, but I don't truly believe this one is a valid concern (Or even a concern of theirs at all... although, I can't explain why they wouldn't have made them add-on packs yet, so... who knows!) -
Quote:Yeah, I am not sure about actual dates and previous Halloween events, but I thought it was shorter as well. I could be wrong though...I was thinking the same thing. Ten days? It seems like it was longer last year and the year before, but I don't have the specific dates in front of me atm.
I've been going with the thought that it may be shorter due to getting things cleared up for Issue 19 to arrive here before the Thanksgiving holiday portion of this month.
Not sure if there is any reality to any of that but it is a happy spin...

Heya! Happy Birthday!
I, too, was out celebrating it... as it is my wife's birthday
And we have pretty much covered that Goblin Queen is not my wife, but there is still some question that she's just messing with me.
Hehe, still... I enjoyed celebrating your/her birthday! I hope you did as well!
-
Hehe, I posted the answer to that a few posts up from yours!
Here
To Major Deej and others...
The thing is... How/why can/would they place a Dev in charge of Bases if they're not able to spend the resources on it right now.
Yeah, we want them to spend the resources on it, but we understand the reality of it.
I'd say that it is a very good thing that the Lead Designer has a special interest in bases and base building love.
It is true that she does. I imagine it comes partly from being a world designer for so long and enjoying giving the players the chance to better create and design places for themselves (That's just speculation on my part, of course).
Still... It can't be a bad thing that we truly have a Lead Designer who personally wants to see Bases get some love.
She's fettered by the limits of reality, of course... but, still... It's better than having a Lead Designer who doesn't think of bases on their own.
We're on the personal list of the game's Lead. That is good. Unfortunately, it just doesn't make all the realities, which we know about, change so that we can get our base love now.
Whether or not we ever get any... I can't say. I hope we do. I, honestly, wish they'd not worry about fixing the base editing code up before they send us some lovin'. Based on the list of features to spend time and resources on... I think it'd be best... so long as the additions don't make the code explode.
That's for them to decide... and, so far, they have decided that they can't/shouldn't do that yet.
As far as leaving to free to play games and other games...
Hey, if that's what you want, go for it.
I don't see that happening with me.
I'm certainly not going to leave a game because of the lack of base editing support for a game that doesn't even have a base editor. -
Those spiders slip through cracks you can't even see...
Normally they're good to keep around to take care of the bugs, but...
C'est la vie!

Quote:I didn't see any examples of this. There are a couple of badges that reference groups/things that did horrible atrocities in the past, just depends on how far you dig. There are several badges that SHOULD be removed based just on this PoV.
That said, if one changes, they all need to change. There have been a couple of examples already in the thread if you need some reference.
Legionnaire for example. What does it mean? Nothing to most people, other than it's a Roman soldier. Do you know what legionnaire*s DID? You would remove the badge faster than Malleus.
The reference that this badge makes is never explicit. Yes, a book was written 500 years ago that shares part of the title, and the contents of the book vs the meaning is close, but that doesn't make it a smoking gun.
As for the one you just presented...
Legionnaires were indeed hired soldiers for the Roman Empire, but lumping them together as a group that committed atrocities equal to or greater than a piece of literature used by a specific group to murder innocent people in the name of their god... That's just not equivalent.
To lump Legionaries in as an atrocity is to include every single soldier... Hey, while you're at it, do you know what most knights did?
You'll get no argument from me if you want to lump all of war and its violence as atrocities against humanity... but that is far far away from the popular opinion and/or the societal definitions of atrocities... and far away from what you are suggesting in your post.
Seriously, if there are other badge titles or anything in this game that use such specific real world atrocities as their influence... I have no problem saying I was wrong to suggest that the game follows a different standard than what the Malleus badge does.
As for some other replies in here... haha, yeah, this isn't anyting I feel any need to fight about.
Jade Tora, you speak as well for all the rest of forum-users as Justin Bieber does for all of Rock and Roll. -
Quote:Excellent points and I agree.Couldn't agree with this more. But, just might want to add a couple of things.
First, meanings, and language change over time. If anyone even gets the reference, most think, "Witch Hunter," and think no further. So from that point of view, it seems within the games self-imposed limits. However on a deeper look, Golden Girl's points are quite on target. As EK said, it's fairly unique among the badges (as far as I'm aware) as to the nature of it's reference material.
So, *if* we were grant that it's in horrible taste (not saying I think it is or isn't), and that Golden Girl is completely right, it still may warrant more justification to be changed. What harm is done to leave it? Does anyone actually see it and think it's a vote of support and encouragement for the types of actions carried out hundreds of years ago? The only concrete harm I can see it causing is some people are going to be put off by it. But it's removal will also put some people off. If no other reason to change it can be thought of, it's going to be up to a Dev somewhere to decide how the 3 camps break down. I would guess the most will be in the "Don't really care," category, and the, "Must stay," and "Must be changed," camps will both small.
All of the other good arguments (and the bad ones) kinda go out the window really, is it causes more harm staying than going, or vice-versa. But if it's just a matter of group A doesn't care, group B hates it, and group c love it, it's just a popularity contest, and thus the reasons you care doesn't matter, it's all taste at that point, as far as I can tell.
One (fun/philosophical-ish) question that it all poses (for me) is basically, "Is something without tact worth changing if there isn't any intention nor real solid target for offense?"
Somewhat like the old "tree falling in the woods"... Is something tactless if there's no real offense?
Hehe... Then again... It figures that I'd see it the way that I do, since I've always thought that the wood in the trees thing was stupid. Of course it makes a sound, even if no one is there to hear it.
I suppose, beyond putting sound waves and vibrations above the significance of our brains' perceptions, I place trying to be respectful and tactful above whether or not anyone is around to take offense.
I'm certainly not proclaiming that to be the right or wrong way to go, nor some guide for all things! *shrugs*
Haha, anyway, I especially agree that there are likely two very small camps who might disagree and a large mass of those who have zero concern over it. -
Great job!
Thank you all again!!
I honestly figured that it was only a matter of time before you came up with a way to make them work (As I mentioned before), but I didn't think it'd be this quick (Nor likely before I19 release).
Super awesome job!!
Thank you so very much! -
*huge applause*
Fan-flippin-TASTIC!!
The haunted house design and placement of things is truly great on its own... But your tour here is really wonderful.
Thank you so much! I enjoyed that a lot!!
And... I just may have to log on one of my Champion alts and take you up on that.
I've go to share this with a few others I know will enjoy this.
Thanks again!
And Happy Halloween!!!!! -
Quote:Yeah, I don't think they'd merge the servers... just merge/combine the server list.Server merge...hm. Couldn't we have ALL the servers accessible thru either version of the game? I'd rTher not see the total number of servers dropping.
I hope it happens one day...
Well, this is the rub...
In order to combine the two groups of subscribers, there's going to have to be some system in place to deal with conflicting global names.
I, personally, am all for this solution. It's just a global name... Albeit, I am quite sure that mine is not being used by anyone else.
If it was... eh, what's either a small suffix added to it or a rename to me compared to a merging of the EU and NA playerbase?
Just seems more likely to happen with this solution than with some big idea that allows duplicate global names...
C'mon, MrCaptainMan... For all we know... it's just you and your stance on this that is holding this up!!
-
Thank you very much for the heads up (And, once again, for working on Mid's!!)!
Quote:Yeah, this is exactly what I was thinking I'd do.I plan to keep pre-I19 Mids and its builds in a separate directory from the I19 Mids.
When I respec, I just don't move things around in a build -- that gets sloppy... I need to make sure it's built right from the start. So, when I respec, I'll be opening up Old Mids and New Mids side by side and using the old as a reference as I rebuild in the new.
There. No need to convert.
I'll probably port over a few, to get me started, but everything will be in two different folders/directories.
Not much of a problem really.
Maybe, down the road, an updated Mid's will be able to handle old/pre-I19 builds with Fitness Pool.

Quote:Agreed on all points. Nice to see some rationality!Upon the close-up slow-motion views, it appears to me that there is nothing in that person's hand. They could have been itching their face, or perhaps trying to cover up from letting the camera see them (and somewhat failing).
Their fingers somewhat close in the final moments of the clip; if they were holding something that didn't need all the fingers to hold, I'd doubt they would have all their fingers in that position to start with.
I don't see any personal evidence of talking, but that's not really relevant. They could have been talking to the man in front of them, or someone who was off-camera the entire time.
The uploader's explanation sounds increasingly desperate to me.
Quote:What the guy sees as an object, I see as a harsh shadow typical of "live" footage of the day.
She wasn't talking on any device, she was walking behind her husband.
Her hand was up to shade her face from the bright sunlight.
Her fingers were bent because she's old and there weren't many treatments for arthritis back then.
As for the "looks like a man" ********? She looks old. That's all, old.
Guy clearly has never heard of Occam's Razor. Or if he had he's forgotten to use it.
Quote:It is obviously clear there is *not* a black device in her hand, but that is the shade of her hand on her face.
Though it looks sunny, the heavy coats portray a chilly day. She was probably warming her ear. The index and forefinger are cupped behind the upper ear. Or she had an earache. Or she was trying to block out noise from the street.
Or time travelers are fat.
HAHA!
Quote:You know she's just talking non-stop to her husband who's 5 steps ahead of her regardless of whether he can hear her or is actively ignoring her.
Who hasn't seen that?
Haha, thanks for all the laughs everyone. This thread was a fun read! -
Haha, lots of great costumes... So so many!!
My wife won with a costume that I made...
The King Is Dead!!
...but I failed to win one for myself!
...Even though I showed up to pretty much each time slot (I had a bunch of halloween costume ideas and figured I'd try them out!!
It's okay, since I was planning to buy the pack regardless... The kids don't need that college education anyways (YES TEN DOLLARS WAS ALL I WAS WILLING TO SPEND ON THEIR EDUCATION... See, I don't really have kids...).
Haha, I had a great time. Sending tells to people with costumes I particularly liked and receiving tells about mine and such and so forth on a number of servers.
The Monster Of Pop may not have won a prize... But he won plenty of people's hearts!!
He's now using them to create more dancing zombies!! Muhahaha!!
Sorry if I just killed anyone's bandwidth...
THANKS OCHO and AVATEA and the COH Team for giving out free stuffs and to everyone for their awesome costumes and kind words...
Much fun was had... and much more is still to come!!
-
Quote:It really would.Oh now you know that'ld be a great theme for going rogue
Pick your side! Will you join the Americans or rise from the ashes with the EUers?
*sigh* Would be epic . . . . .
When the servers are merged... we are going to put this together!!!
We'll come up with a whole plot and everything...
And stuff!
-
Hey! Happy Birthday, Demon Caller!!
You have to swing by the PU some more some time!!
(Then again... so do I!!)
Hope you had a good one!
Oh... and sweet drawing of Melli!!
I've met her!!
It might be Electric-Knight causing her hair to rise a bit -
And... No point in attempting to have any sort of reasonable discussion with that.
No worries, it is not necessary to attempt any such thing.
Definitely might want to relax though. -
I'm looking forward to this... and this time, I will remember to run around and look at everybody.
I hope no one minds me invading their server to join in, as I probably won't be around when my home server's scheduled contest is going on!
Yes... I am logging onto your server...
Stealing your prizes!!!
(maybe!!)
Happy Halloween!! -
The issue Golden Girl has brought up really has nothing to do with overreacting or being overly sensitive.
In a medium of entertainment that clearly strives to maintain certain levels of taste... That choice of a name is in questionable taste, if not clearly in bad taste.
Golden Girl, and anyone else, has every right to point this out. And no one needs to convince any other players about it, she is raising the issue to the creators and those responsible and capable of changing it.
While I do agree that the lengths of time since specific atrocities were committed do change the general etiquette regarding what is or is not in bad taste, I think that it is clear that most (If not all) other badge titles and other aspects of pop-culture and/or real world historical references in this game do not cross a certain standard.
If there are other historical references that resemble the relation of Malleus and Witches within this game, then I stand corrected.
In all honesty... the reference very well may have been picked up and chosen more from some fictional work (the name Witch Hammer and so on and so forth has likely been used in many fictional works) without realizing the bloody historical significance. I only say that to mention that the full matter may not have been considered when that name was chosen. *shrugs*
No one is crying and covering their children's eyes and making a big something out of nothing... Someone made a post (And hopefully a PM or more?) about an intellectual concern of content containing, at least, questionable taste.
I don't get offended by such things. However, I still recognize that the game seems to hold a certain standard and I can absolutely agree that this particular badge seems to break that standard.
Not a big deal. Remove that connection.
As for it being okay if you're a villain... Hey, yeah, I agree with that.
The questioned content isn't about how it does or doesn't fit with what happens in the game in order to achieve it... It is about the out-of-game connotation and the question of if that is necessarily in good taste.
Detractors of Golden Girl... Just as you may tell her to relax... Perhaps so should you. -

I haven't had time to read the further discussions, so my apologies (Just felt like typing out my thoughts as quickly as possible, as I don't have much more forum time to spend!)...
I neither need the "complete" experience nor do I necessarily dislike it (not always).
I do crave immersion, but that is not dependent on the game delivering information.
Often times, I prefer less detailed information, so that I can fill in the blanks myself with my imagination.
I think of the great times I had playing games back in the day as a child.
One jumps to mind (Yeah, I suppose that I'm breaking the rules by talking about a long dead Atari 800 single player space shooter video game from the early 1980s)... Star Raiders.
A First Person Perspective half flight simulator half space shooter.
The graphics consisted mostly of a star field and your ship's status info on your screen... and TIE fighter and Saucer looking enemy space ships and funny looking laser ball weapon missiles.
There wasn't much information (There may have been if in the booklet that I never saw, with my pirated copy of the game on a floppy disc), but that never stopped me from entering an entirely engaging world of immersion.
Turn off the lights... Nothing but me and my glowing screen, with stars, my spaceship's heads up display... some drink and pretzels by my side... And a whole universe to hyperspace around and dog fight with enemies!
Granted... playing in a multi-player role-playing atmosphere... some common ground on backstory and such is greatly beneficial.
However, to play a game and enjoy it by myself?
Nothing more is needed than fun game play... and (while not having to be revolutionary nor even necessarily great or realistic) to look well enough for me to enjoy.
Actually... there is one thing I always have tended to crave in video games above all else...
Freedom.
Give me freedom in a game and I can lose myself in it. It is sort of similar to the difference of a book and a movie.
With a book (And a video game that provides freedom) the creation and the user's imagination combine, allowing an experience more tailor-made to the individual user.
Less detailed information in a video game can also accomplish this.
Story arcs and such are a great example (Even just the text, dialog and/or the mission popup text)... The more detail written by the creators... the more chance it has to detract or disagree with the user's wants/likes.
As into depth as I can be, I generally prefer random/generic enemy mashing than written and potentially forced dialog and story arcs.
That's just me!
*dashes off... late again!* -
Yes.
(I remember the lessons learned and know how to answer that question, thank you) -
Quote:And Castle has said this much.
The OP used a (sort of) clever play of words to support his case. If you want a change, you have to justify reasons for said change. Perhaps some analysis to prove that controllers are a somehow inferior AT (good luck there) which could be "corrected" by adding control to their pets.
Saying "Controllers have derp control in their name, why derp can't they control derp pets derp?" doesn't work.
Truth!
And I understand and agree with the reasons why Controllers cannot have MM-like control over their pets... However, I just only recently had a realization.
Ever since I started playing CoH, I've wanted to, one day, make an Illusion Control character. I just needed to find the character concept and run with it when the time and inspiration came about.
It never has happened (other alts, not enough time, lack of concept that inspires me, etc etc).
Then, recently, I was thinking (after playing with a few rather hasty and chaotic Illusion Controllers) Wow... I would probably HATE playing an Illusion Controller, what with not having basically any control over my pets!!
I have a hard enough time cursing and wondering what in tarnation is wrong with most teammates running around like headless chickens... and then with harnessing my Master Mind's henchmen with an iron fist and cursing them up and down for running off and needing to be repeatedly told what to do...
I do not think that a free-willed pet is good for my happy fun time, haha!
Then again... since I can't control them... I might enjoy it more than I think!
*shrugs*
So, I get the initial thought of wanting more control... I get the reasons why they shouldn't have more control... And I occasionally like to ramble. -
To stick squarely to the topic and avoid the immature drama between the OP and the mysterious potential harpie woman that is the actual impetus of this thread...
A short and straight answer:
Too big?
Nah... But the slider doesn't go small enough.
One other quick thing... I understand the jokes about the amount of RP in relation to the breast slider scales... But I'm sure you know that no such thing should ever be taken in 100% seriousness.
I also have female friends, including my wife, who play and do not stick to the left side of the slider.
I made one female character (I actually designed her for a female friend to play, at her request [I haves mad character creator skillz!! j/k) and she is intentionally designed to look somewhat like a gorgeous and voluptuous female model/centerfold-type.
She was a bookworm unhappy plane-Jane who delved with some magic to get back at someone who jilted her and transformed into a sort of malevolent Aphrodite temptress.
Expect poor Role-Play from that character and you'll be pleasantly surprised (If you give her the chance).
As the platypus instructs us... Allow for all exceptions! -
