I don't have any plans to take advantage of the double xp. No characters that I feel any need to level up or zoom up, at the moment. Plus I am not sure how much time I will have this weekend...
However, I do wish to earn me some prestige for our alt villain group's casino/hotel/nightclub The Rogue Universe.
Those of us in the Paragon Universe don't play our villains as regularly as blueside and I've been doing a bunch of base editing red side lately.
So, we're nearly out of prestige and I was planning to run my space invader bots/ff master mind through some fun to get the prestige up... and now it will be doubled, muhahaha.
I tend to refer to these events as DOUBLE PRESTIGE weekends.
That's just me though... -
Well, I really like Marcian's theory/idea.
Even if it is not correct... They should switch to that.
They won't even have to tell us that they've retcon'd it.
They can just Marcian it. -

Quote:So much truth.I'll be honest: I think these people keep forgetting that they are stewards of these properties, and not their owners. As a writer, you have to balance respect for the past with forging your own course, because you can't just be stuck in the past when you are taking over the legacy of other writers.
But for me, it comes down to this: if you want to shake up Spider-Man by killing Gwen Stacy, you're a genius. If you want to shake up Spider-Man by killing Spider-Man you're an idiot. If you can't figure out how to make the Fantastic Four work, that says something about you: go do something else. Destroying the title for the good of the title is ludicrous. Why write about characters you don't want to write about. Make up your own and go kill them off. If the problem is that people won't care about your characters as much as these more established ones, well that's the point isn't it. More people care about the Fantastic Four than care about the Fantastic Four writing team. Nobody cares about their writers block.
In any case, the chances of any good coming of this are something between zero, and negative zero.
Wonderfully stated, Arcanaville.
This applies to so much that is wrong with the supposed writing artists in several forms of media today and certainly in this scenario.
While it makes me sad that this is the case, it makes me happy to know others feel the same way.
And then...
This made me laugh!

It's all fun and games until somebody's computer gets weevils! -
Well, we almost had a thread that mentioned character name systems, but had nothing to do with the whole "name purge/no need for name purge" & "aren't good names/are good names" subject... For about 30 seconds maybe?
Oh well!
I would have agreed with your original supposition, mousedroid... Who knew it was actually more complex! Interesting!
Sorry you couldn't get the name after all.
Lastly... Yeah, people need to remember that "good names" are a highly subjective matter. -
And he was active and exercising to the end...
Call that living? I do!

I'm appreciative that someone appreciates me!
Actually, I'm very happy that I have found and brought together willing, talented and dedicated people interested in working on two new work projects of mine. This week, I went from looking to start one project to having two!
I am also grateful that we have WW as lead designer of my favorite game...
And very appreciative that my mind control powers worked and she is busy at work on things that I command!
One other thing... I have noticed several instances of different business people using the phrase, "to the next level"...
Clearly, Paragon Studios has gone from being the model of the mmorpg industry to being the model of all business ventures!
Nice going, WW!
Now... back to work on those Space Platypus invaders, the base lovin' and all the Pool Power Customization you're so happy to be doing!

Quote:Right, I get that... and that's why I stand on the side of ensuring the best case scenario.I should be honest... I never did say the new system wouldn't be backwards compatible, did I?
In truth, that's looking at the best case scenario, and one I'd personally hope for.
but my OP describes a worst case scenario where the old, existing bases, would likely be lost, given how fragile they've been proven before. (the incidents where adding or withdrawing from base storage racks caused bases to become corrupted, random base corruptions, etc.)
Though I think in the event of a new system, it would be equally likely for the Devs to make sure that old bases are carried over.
so, I guess try to keep in mind, this thread kind of considers the worst case scenario.
Ask me if I'm okay with losing the legacy bases... and my answer is no! Make it so with some backwards compatibility, period.
My personal opinion is against allowing the worst case scenario.
Even if the old bases are locked in stone like museums, that's fine with me.
Anyways... I certainly am not looking to debate about my opinion vs others, just hoping to clear that up between us (and since there have been some replies as though there's only one real choice and that my opinion is wrong). -
Quote:Even taking that hearsay as accurate, why would we vote to go ahead and ditch the previous stuff instead of attempting to make the new backwards compatible? The reason for this isn't to spite others, but because it seems like the Devs CANNOT do anything new with bases because the coding is basically a house made of match sticks. Unable to add anything without risking other parts falling to pieces.
though, I will admit, this is all hearsay. -
There was a pic of a gorilla showing up for EMPulse's birthday, but that may or may not have been to do with the Animal Booster...
Also... Since we're unofficially calling it the Animal Booster, can we have this Monstrous Head?
Please?

Yeah, when stupid things that dumb characters say in works of art are edited out... it only makes the flawed character seem less flawed... whywouldwewantthat?
Anyway...
Quote:Thee may indeed be an edited version, but also songs used to not be censored on the radio like they are today.But..., but there IS an edited version, isn't there? I remember it playing here in the States when the song was first released.
You used to be able to listen to the the radio and hear The Who's Who Are You with full lyrics ("Who the **** are you?"), no bleeps/edits... Even when Pink Floyd's The Division Bell came out and one of the songs had a rather fun line of "So I open my door to my enemies... And I ask could we wipe the slate clean... But they tell me to please go **** myself".
All freely heard on American FM airwaves.
We're more advanced these days!
Does the FCC have a paypal account for paying them directly?
Haha! The first half is especially poignant! Thank you, you summed it up right there. -

Quote:I understand this. Everything I said is in conjunction with being fully aware of the issues with bases and the coding mess.Electric-Knight: The base coding right now is so messed up that the only way to do anything with bases woud be to rewrite the entire code.
I am not in favor of removing work/designs people have put in.
Even though I view the bases (and all video game things, really) as castles made of sand, I am not in favor of trading the old for new unknowns, as much as I love the CoH dev team. It's not a gamble/trade I'd care to make nor see others lose their designs over.
Just my opinion. Just know that it is not made out of ignorance... just opinion. -
Quote:Because... Old timers are afraid to leave their house and have an especially hard time hearing what's going on at the auction house? Why would I have to earn a bunch of badges for those other powers and just have to be an old-timer for this new one?
Hehe, really, I agree with everything you said in that post! -
Quote:*snickers*Yes I am feeling very entitled about sharing my vet reward I get the first week it is out.
I, personally don't really care one way or the other (I'm only on something like 40 months or so).
I can definitely see how this is a rather large QoL bonus that could be freed up in some alternate manner, such as an accolade (which, if it were Field Crafter, I still wouldn't see any time soon... and that is A-Okay fine by me and keeps the spirit of the vet reward still being a rather nice thank you).
I dislike costume pieces, and such, being tied to vet rewards beyond a year or two... 7 years is pretty far out of range for new players. So, I thought these vet rewards were great for the vets who will earn them, but not too bad for those you won't... However, I could see the validity of claims that this /ah command goes a bit beyond that happy balance.
Time as a vet isn't so much "earned", it can just be a happenstance of it you were here or not.
I'm certainly not griping about any of it, but I agree with the idea of this suggestion. -

I'm not very keen on the idea of scrapping what we have and what so many (way beyond those of us here on the forums) have created and hold dear.
As much as I can come up with logical reasons for letting what we have go, I just don't like the idea of banking on whatever newness would come by removing what is already created.
And, as much as I understand that the base editor needs a major overhaul, I prefer to shoot for improvements into the existing system (or alongside of it) in this nearly 7 year old game.
Too much time of investment for some to just throw it away for something new, in my opinion.
Shut down the old bases, lock them into place as is and give new bases with new editors and options and all of whatever they would? Yes.
Wipe out all existing bases? No.
Just my personal opinions on the matter.
EDIT:
Just to include this...
I, personally, could possibly be okay with completely losing the bases I and friends have made if we were to get a system that allowed full usage of all and any items in any room (even if just for display), no limitations, full movement/placement options in all directions and rotation... and nearly every single art asset/object in the game world plus tons of unique-to-bases items. So, long as the bases could be as large as the previous types. And I wouldn't want to start from scratch and wait before I could remake fully equipped and decorated bases.
With all of that I, personally, could trade my old bases.
However, I'd hate to see anyone who wasn't in favor of that lose their bases.
I've seen a game wholesale remove things that players held dear and I don't want to see it again. -

Ahahaha!
I was just going to complain about the not-a-baseball cap aspect...
See? It's impossible to meet pre-existing standards!
Only by installing and creating the spark of wants, interests and standards can you please everyone!

I always forget what happens when I put that thing on...
It's so cool looking and shiny though...

Quote:I'd wager that it would be easier, cheaper and more successful to just brainwash everyone to only wanting what you tell them.Well, you probably could, iof you devoted all your resources to the animal booster - but scrapping I20 and the Incarnate Trials just so that someone could make a hippo-headed avatar with a monocle and baseball cap mightn't be good for the long-term health of the game
Then you'll never miss a thing!
