Just popping in with my two cents quickly (so, I have not yet read any replies):
I want to say right off the top that (as I've said in a thread I started about Power Customization for remaining power pools and such) Any Incarnate Powers and new Powers better be designed and implemented with Power Customization.
So, any visible powers the Incarnate system should absolutely have color customization.
caveat being with the Lore Pets customization when/if they develop the ability to customize Pets
Quote:For me, everything is on a case by case basis. And I have not yet really looked into the leaks of what is to come (other than the general information of AoE and pets coming with Judgment and Lore).- How do you feel about the powers themselves based on the information that has been released so far, including in the sneak peaks and threads about them (here's a decent one, here's another, there are more), in terms of gameplay and how you feel about your characters having them (regardless of the lore)?
So far, I don't have a problem with them... So long as they can be colored to our liking. Power Customization needs to be applied to all existing power pools and the Incarnate System and I am hoping they realize this and are getting that done to coincide with the release of those parts of the Incarnate System (and not afterward). This also has the benefit of escalating all the needed Power Customization UI and development into the Incarnate priority the team is set on.
My feelings will be negative if they are not customizable. Until/unless that happens, I feel good about what they have planned.
Quote:- How would you feel about your characters if everyone else had a significant number of extremely effective and visible powers that are similar or identical to yours? (If you are choosing to skip these powers, please instead say how you would feel about everyone else having the same or similar powers)
As great as this game may have been... I don't think I would have stayed if I came before Weapon Customization, Wings and several added elements of customization that were added in. That's the truth. And it is still a huge aspect to me and more-so since we got our color and animation customization. That trend needs to continue and be expanded upon, as far as I am concerned. (I've probably made that clear, hehe)
Quote:- How do you feel about the lore concept that Incarnate powers are not really yours, but granted by/stolen from an entity that has been stated to be insane (in the issue 20 overview)? How do you feel about your fellow heroes/villains being given/stealing these powers by/from that entity? If you plan to ignore the lore for your characters, go ahead and say so, but give your opinion on it too if you have one, please.
I would likely ignore it, as far as my own concepts go.
It may or may not be a terrible story, but it's certainly not one I would expect everyone to buy into for their own concepts.
Anyone who wants to be a snowflake, go right ahead. I have zero problems with it and basically laugh at anyone who talks about that being a bad thing.
Also, I'd expect an Issue 48, sometime down the road, where some devil-like character comes along and offers a story arc that ends up wiping that slate clean...
You walk a really thin line in trying to manage and create background stories for a universe designed to entertain thousands of character-creating customers. They have to recognize that their world is sometimes just the backdrop for their users' creativity.
However, they also have to provide content and stories of interest as well as cater to those who simply want the story brought to them.
It is certainly a difficult balancing act.
Options are the greatest option.
Quote:- Do you believe that character diversity is an important part of this game in general? If so, please say why, and from the information you have so far from the sneak-peaks or the threads about them, what impact do you feel the Incarnate system will have on that diversity, and the game as a whole? If not, why not?
It's greatly important (although, I can't lose myself and act like it was terrible before we had Power Customization).
I do believe that the element of diversity should be improved and pushed forward... Not taken backwards.
If there is color customization, if there are options that match just about any and every power type already in this game (Dark Miasma, Devices, Electricity, Energy, Fire, Guns, Gravity Control, Ice, Psy/Mental, etc.), if the options are well balanced and choices can freely be made based on concept/fun and not the game mechanics... Then I don't think this will negatively impact the game's diversity.
If they leave out power effects from the roster of choices, if they don't allow customization and if these powers are imbalanced... it's not going to be great.
Besides causing some balancing damages and whatnot, it could easily turn off the types of players that play for conceptual reasons, customization reasons and the like.
And, I tend to think that such players are the majority of City Of Heroes players... So, I'd think that'd be a bad thing.
Just my thoughts and opinions.
Thanks for the questionnaire!

Quote:The problem isn't that they can't add things, but that the current code is at it's limit. Adding just about anything needs a whole rewrite of the code. Add a polygon here, an item there, yep, whole rewrite.
It's not even just bases, but the whole SG system. SG v1.x is done, it's buggy beyond repair, wasn't made with the future in mind from the beginning, and needs to be scrapped and rebuilt from the ground up.Quote:Can you tell me where this was said, or provide a link?
It's not that I don't believe you (it explains a lot, actually), I just want to know when this was revealed and what else was said.
Yeah, I don't know that the case is that severe.
The conversations I had with War Witch didn't reveal anything that extreme, but it was made clear that the code was such a mess that it would take a lot more resources and time than is feasible (at this current time), by their calculations. Basically, the coding team is a hot commodity and can only be used to do so much (And currently is being used up on Incarnate stuff and new zone stuff).
I can only make guesses as to what extremes all of this exists to be, but Feign's post is the first I've heard of it being completely, no-other-options unworkable.
And I'm not going to just take such statements as truth, to be honest. -
Quote:I believe that is the truth about the balancing of SS and I agree about AAO....
Because Super Strength is balanced around Rage being actively used, and isn't really that great on damage without it. Against All Odds is nice, but I have my doubts about it being enough to make Super Strength deal better than mediocre damage without using rage.
Quote:Shield Defense has enough resistance and +HP to handle taking a few hits while the defense crash is going on. Tanks are intended to be tough to kill, they are not necessarily intended to have their HP bar never move. And even WITH the defense crash, you're still going to have 25% or more defense.
Health is green? Yellow? Red? Whatever... Smash! Move on... Heh, on my Tank, greens don't need to be popped in much of a hurry.
As a longtime Blaster, if my health isn't going down, I'm not trying!
If anything, those ten seconds are when my hero takes a few on the chin.
Then he's back and stronger and kicks their butts. The audience cheers and more comicbooks are sold and I'm happy.
(Okay, yes, I was just playing my SD/SS Tank earlier today)
Quote:My only issue with Shield/SS is the combo has 2 powers I'd like to put on auto, and I only have the ability to do 1.
Quote:One thing I did to make dealing with the rage crash easier, was to have the damage bonus mod appear in the top middle area of the screen. If it's red, use vet attacks and other stuff. If it's green, business as usual.
You can get that through the powers menu->combat attributes->base->then right click damage bonus and monitor. You can then drag it around wherever you like.
I'm always trying to keep an eye on the Rage icon and keep track of when the crash is coming, but putting that little info up there and checking for the 10 seconds of red will do the job wonderfully. Thanks!
Oh, and... I don't have Rage overlapping, but they're close. And I don't mind the crash one bit. I just try and time everything for those 2 minutes of glory... and spend those 10 seconds either running to the next enemies (hopefully) or getting a bit of endurance back and maintaining aggro.
To me, it feels a little more like, for 2 minutes I am beyond a Tanker... For 10 seconds, I am an aggro-managing Tanker.
Hehe
The Amazing Ape recommends taking Rage! -
For hands, there are just the "monstrous hands" as a glove option.
Then you can choose monstrous fur, animal fur, or several of the glove texture options and then, for some, patterns (depending on which previous option you chose).
There aren't any paws or anything, just slightly larger, kinda gangly, long-pointy-nailed hands.
Hope that's what you're looking for! -

C. Warning, next step after being moved to the PvP Forums is being spawned as a monkey during Rikti Invasions (The Good: You get fully buffed stamina and perma hasten. The Bad: You have no attacks).
B. As the rest of the heroes on his team storm into his office, Gearshoulder Bob quickly shoves his action figures off of his desk and acts like he wasn't playing.
6. A. Vahzilok: This blue carpet reeeeeally looked like water from up there.
C. And the heroes arrive upon the scene only to learn that the building was not under attack from the Freakshow... It turns out that the manager called them to speak with an employee about inappropriate decorations on the work desk.
B. While the other judges all gave the diving Vahz a perfect score... one mysterious judge ninja'd him with a score of 1.
C. Note to remember when leaning over railings and taking aim... These crossbows are heavy.

This is the kind of thing I like to see... Time/schedule permitting, I will likely be involved with this with a hero, the Electric-Knight.
Although, as things progress OOCly leading up to this, I may choose a different character to focus on for it (if something in particular strikes me as calling for it)... but most likely it'll be E-K!

To purge those thoughts in my previous post from all of our minds...
And My Little Cthulhu
Have to add in this one!
-
Those Little (notice, I didn't say "My") Ponies...
Are a bit creepy...
Some nieces were over one day and they had some My Little Pony coloring books that they left at our house...
Later one night, we were entertaining some friends and they opened up those coloring books and we all were looking at the pictures...
It's like full centerfold spreads of these cartoon ponies with little tattoos and long eyelashes and in really... odd... poses.
And no... this was not a joke coloring book, haha.
Yeah... I'd never actually looked at any of that stuff before (not pony ones...).
That I.P. will forever have a completely different box I have locked them away in within my brain.
I threw away the key... thanks, all, for handing it back to me...
Hehe, honestly, we were all laughing pretty hard at it, but... yeah, I had no idea what this company was feeding little kiddies! -
Wow, the chances are 1 in 6
I can't believe all of these wrong picks!
I only hope I am not too late
For my pick of 98!!

Define a bit odd!
I like how some people have used the heads for animal-headed otherwise-fleshy humanoids and I've seen some using it as large animal masks.
Also, Forefinger, while I share your desire for ape and monkey parts, I did post some gorilla pics earlier.
I have a few monkey costumes as well. Both only use the Animal Fur options from the new pack (and the emote and Beast Run, of course). -
Been wondering (And I'll set this up and test it a little later, and maybe find out then, but...):
Will this launcher allow us to change in-game settings (such as graphics/resolution settings) without loading into the game? -
I was totally surprised to get the name Zox'Oculox!
I mean, really!! On Virtue, too!
What? Seriously...
Okay, maybe that's not a common name on Earth...
In a salutation of highest honor, Master Commander Zox'Oculox of the Zogg Galactic Empire spills bile on you!

I'd likely not move on to any other mmos (none that exist right now) for my gaming...
I would probably try and get a tabletop role-playing group together for a once a week sort of thing and get my thrills that way.
I guess I'd probably get back into playing Madden games maybe...
And the trouble and strife and I would likely play this game called Dungeon Lords that we were both enjoying playing before I convinced us to give the CoV free trial a whirl...
I might have to get an old school Marvel Super Heroes RPG campaign going with some of our CoH characters now and then.
That and try and join beta for CoH2: Universe Of Heroes!

You will give them to me and my wife...
hehe... Actually, I deleted my spambox on the account attached to pcgamer earlier today and have no idea if pcgamer's emails might go there...
I'm a dope!
I don't think my chances were very high anyway, but still... can't believe I did that, haha.
I'm still a little hesitant simply due to the fact that the animal fur on flat boots option has not been addressed nor commented on (nor has any of the reasonable and constructive feedback offered since it was on test).
Maybe I'm just worn down by other non-CoH things, but I just am surprised by the lack of exchange about such stuff with the CoH team.
Anyway... I can't undo trashing the spam box, so I guess if I did win... I threw it to the ether! Or the nether? -
I'm laughing at what I have accidentally started
Although, I hope I am not a target of blame
I will surely be broken-hearted
If I do not win this game!
I sense that fate now lies with my next choice
Thus, I state my number with emboldened voice
NUMBER 2!!NUMBER 2!!
Eeek... when you shout that out at work... people look strangely at you

I want to know where Marcian is, so that he can make reference to the sophomoric angle of this that I would never post...
I don't know if I am impressed or disappointed that there have been so many replies in here without any deliberate innuendos...

Excuse me, miss, did I miss something?
Actually... I think this whole joke is a bit lean to lean on. -
bjooks,
First off, I'm liking the avatar. Not sure what that is from, but that's the best cupcake I've ever seen!
Also, nice feedback. I just wanted to comment about what you said about the feel of the "party" and such (and this isn't counter to anything you've said or anything like that).
The problem your feedback basically centered on (understandably) is that these types of events aren't really a party (not unless the community really comes together and makes it such, without the Devs or CR team). They're just a lot of people logging on in hopes to get one of the very few free codes being handed out.
With so many people turning up, and it not being a costume contest, it was more like a crowd of beggars running up to a visitor, hoping to get what they have. *Note, I'm not equating players showing up to get the Free Code to beggars in a negative light (nor am I putting any of this on the same level as the reality of needing to beg for food/money)... Haha... This post is more disclaimers than content.
So, yeah... the party aspect is lost and it feels more like a bunch of ducks and geese gathering around a person with a few pieces of bread.
Once the person is out of bread and takes off, they all waddle and fly over to the next bread-holder (server).
So, I suppose, if we want it to be different...
Either it should be done in contest form (they've done it in the past, but not with these numbers, I don't think).
Don't do it at all.
Or we, the players, have to take the opportunity to shape it into a true community event and have our own party that will be visited by the team, giving out their codes and all.
Anyways, just thoughts that sprang to mind from reading other people's thoughts.
Not a big deal, either way!
EDIT:
I should mention that there were indeed some people who were making it a community event and handing out their own prizes and doing their part towards making it a fun time for all.
So, yeah, I'm not saying the community was completely devoid of community, hehe.
These types of events just lose the fun when the focus is on the very few prizes, compared to the collective whole of those who turn up.
But what can ya do! -
Yeah, to be perfectly honest... I think the only thing we can do is enjoy (or don't) what we do have. And hope it never gets any worse.
Not even in-person discussion (and pleas for posting in these forums) garnered an acknowledgment.
So, I'm not down about it. It is what it is.
While the base editor and system is so very convoluted/clumsy/limited...
It was enough to give many of us hours/days/months/years of interest.
It still does for me... and that's all I'm going to ever expect from it.
It can be daunting, but every now and then I get the bug to do more.
Maybe it'll improve one day, but... even if it does... I don't expect to hear about it until it's already done (And I really don't expect that day any year soon). -
