Quote:Yes, hehe, positive (based on all the known info thus far). Thanks thoughAre you SURE you're a year away? Remember you'll gain tokens every MONTH not every THREE.
Quote:43 months, if FREEDOM went Live today = 17 Tokens. That's 4 out of 7 Rewards in Tier 6. In 15 months you will max out Tier 8 and start in on the Tier 9 consumables or VIPs.
Without the new system, you still have 44 months to get all the Rewards that are currently in the pipeline.
The new system gives it to you 29 months earlier.
I understand (as I stated earlier) what is nice about the new system.
The bad thing is that they put carrots that far exceed the shininess of anything else in there before...
And the time required to reach tier 9 under the new system is shorter than what I'll have to do to get there. So, it really would have been lovely if the transfer rate somehow allowed for me to be there when it goes live, as opposed to waiting 15 more months.
*shrug* -
Quote:Not arguing, as what you say is entirely correct.2 years of subbing means you are currently over 5 years away from accruing all the Vet Rewards that currently exist. And if that system continued, you will always be 5 years behind.
In the new system, you will start with 10 Tokens. That puts in into Tier 5. In less than 2 years, you will max out Tier 8 and any future Tokens will be spent on Tier 9 consummables or Tier 9 VIPs.
If you chose, for every $15 you spend for the Paragon *Points* (1,200 worth) to buy all those other goodies locked up there, you get a Token, reducing the time of maxing out the Reward tree a month earlier.
Or you can wait the two years and with the free 400 month of Points you get, buy the extra goodies.
I think the issue is just that the idea of new full costume sets and wings and auras being buried further along the veteran reward system seems harsh (to some).
Indeed, the rewards come quicker and stopping the tiers at 9 allows everyone to get caught up, in a way... But they also went and put new stuff in there that is far more desirable (to some of us) than what was ahead beforehand.
C'est la vie. -
Quote:I'll have 57 months in three days (the 24th of July)
So...how far in am I then?
Hmm... quick math in me head say that'd give you 24 Reward Tokens.
Each slot along the tier takes one token. I don't have the image opened up right now to tell you where that puts you... I think in Tier 7 or 8 (off the top of my highly occupied memory processor). -
Quote:Nah, I don't think so.How many months veteran are you? You might be closer than you think due to incorrect math. (Keep in mind you get one token per month after Freedom.)
I'm at 43 months right now.
I suppose I'll get over it, but it somehow really annoyed me to learn that there'd be new costume pieces locked away form me, hehe.
(I'm not over it yet!!)
-
You know, a lot seems to be made of that... and I understand why, but I think it is taken a little far (not having read the books, mind you... I did see the first movie though).
I mean, watching over someone as they sleep is not just a creepy pervert thing for someone to do... there is an endearing aspect of it.
I'm not saying that sneaking into a stranger's room and spying on them in whatever state of undress is right... And I think that is where the issue lies for people...
But I don't know... I think Twilight gets hit hard because it is lower quality writing that became enormously popular.
So, every little bit people can harp on... they will.
I'm not saying I really mind that (other than it becoming popular, haha), but it just seems that people needlessly make more of it to trounce Twilight... when it's not really needed.
Even a great number of people who have enjoyed Twilight seem to admit that it is garbage. -
My $15 was for allowing me to post on these forums.
Which gives me the divine right to announce my personal opinion as a matter of utmost importance as though this stage were all mine...
I understand the new system and, on some ways, it is cooler than what we had before.
However, I'm really disappointed that they're putting in new full sets of costumes farther out of reach for me.
I'm not flying off half-cocked or anything... I get it, I understand, it's just my personal opinion... and I am disappointed.
What makes it a little tougher is...
The amount of time I've been a subscriber is enough time under the new system to reach Tier 9.
However, the transfer rate system they have (from the old system to the new) puts me around 1 year away from Tier 9.
I liked how the later Vet Rewards were a little understated. The samurai armor, the tech sleek armor and the boxing stuff were a little far into the system, but... after that... it was more things of convenience for the great long-lasting subscribers. Sure, they added in the Arachnos Helmets, but that was cool because they were part of the CoV pre-purchase and special items that could have been acquired elsewise. A nice touch, in my opinion.
However... If they didn't switch to this new system, would you think they'd add new sets of costumes as new vet rewards? (I know they could. They can do any bloody thing they please, haha)
I honestly just find it deflating that new spangled fancy full costume sets (and wings and weapons and auras!!) are being put into the game now... But I'll have to wait over a year before I can use them.
It just rubs me the wrong way.
Oh well!
*bows before exiting stage left* -
Quote:Again, I totally agree, hehe.I have to agree with you there; for all the show's corniness and the revelations long after the show ended that Lou Ferrigno had to run around in slippers and could only be filmed from the knees up
, Bill Bixby brought a wonderful quiet dignity to David Banner and you really genuinely empathised with him. I always thought it was a missed opportunity to have him see if he could somehow live with the Hulk instead of constantly trying to cure himself, but that pathos was at the heart of the show.
I really think Edward Norton got painfully close to the Bixby interpretation, but that moment has passed now. I really think it'll take someone who gets passionate for the role and just brings it to the table like how Ledger did with the Joker and took what was an already iconic character to a new place, a new and haunting look at the character.
S.
Yeah, Norton definitely approached that (as he has proven he is capable of doing).
Yeah... nuthin' else to say... you said it. -
I suppose I still question why we don't just get a point per month having been subscribed.
I'm really not thrilled with the position my vet status puts me. I'd finally gotten the costume pieces that I felt were far away and now they add in new fancy shmancy sets that are a year away again.
So, it'll take a new player 3 years, that's cool, I guess.
However, I'm really not pleased with the way they're continuing to lock things like costume pieces away, nor with additional carrots being added to the long stick.
I just did not expect the new system to make me feel farther away from feeling content with what vet rewards I did not have yet.
Little bonus powers of convenience, I can deal with... super fancy glowing costumes and auras? That, in my opinion, stinks.
Just my opinion and a little more frank than I might tend to word it, but there it is. -
Quote:That right there is sig worthy!...
Racing to level 50 is like racing to the end of your vacation.
And all of it is excellent advice and I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying things, Tiana!
I could mention that I tend to be a take-out-the-big-guy-first type of player, but people always differ over these approaches... Plus, there are always exceptions and there are different enemies with specific pesky minions that you'll want to take out before the rest of the group.
For standard fare, however, I like to focus on the bigger guys (Bosses, then LTs then Minions) for better survivability. Minions are pretty wimpy and leaving them standing around won't hurt me much... The higher the rank, the harder the damage and the higher their chance to hit me. So, I take them out first and work my way down (again, as you gain experience, you'll find there are many exceptions to this and... hey, sometimes you want to just smack someone in particular for lookin' at you funny!).
But yes, it is great for the team to come to an agreement on which tactic to take. Especially when someone has debuff powers and such that anchor onto a specific enemy target. You want to leave that target up until the end of the battle.
I'm sure you'll work it out!
EDIT: I should mention that I left out anything about AoE attacks...
With sufficient AoE attacks, focusing on the stronger guys first generally wipes out the minions as you go anyway.
Not sure you're wielding much area of effect attacks at this point though and didn't want to ramble on too much! -
Quote:Hmm... I'm usually quick to get this sort of thing...A newbie who starts to subscribe as a VIP the day FREEDOM launches will max out the Paragon Reward tiers in 3 years.
What do old time Vets get? The ability to spend future, monthly Reward Tokens on consumables since they're already maxed out.
I'm not following how my 42 months gets me past Tier 6.
N/3+((N/3)/4)= Paragon Reward Tokens at launch (N is your number of months on your highest vet badge)
So, 42 months would equal 17.5 points, no? And that would be in the 7th Tier.
What am I missing and/or doing wrong?
And thanks for any help (I'm very happy to be wrong in this case... and as soon as i have it pointed out, I plan to fix my first post in here). -
Quote:I'd love to be incorrect, and for you to be right, but none of the calculations are showing that 2 years would get you to Tier 9. Unless the new tokens are in addition to what we already have earned. No, actually. Reward Tokens are going to be handed out every month. Not every three months. Plus one per year you're subscribed.
So 13, per year, as opposed to 4.
So around 2 years, if they don't buy any points.
Also, FPARN!
Steelclaw's handy list, based off of Posi's equation doesn't show it being that fast:
Quote:1st = 1 (1 cumulative)
2nd = 1 (2)
3rd = 3 (6)
4th = 3 (9)
5th = 5 (14)
6th = 7 (21)
7th = 7 (28)
8th = 7 (35)
9th = 5 (40)
9th VIP = 3 (43)
Quote:After re-reading everything I think you'll get whatever you currently have plus the extra reward tokens to buy your way further up the tree. It makes the most sense because people could re-buy themselves out of something they already have. Besides, the system is going from a once/quarter reward to a once/month reward and it's a good way for the current veterans to "catch up". At 33 months I should be only 1 month from unlocking tier 9 and instead I'll just be into tier 7 or 8 (depending on when it goes live, before or after my 36 month reward) even with the extra buys.
Anyone have confirmation? -
Thanks, as always, for the transcript, Von Krieger!!
While some of this is definitely cool...
I have to say that it feels like they're burying awesome additions even farther away now.
Oh, but you can spend money to get them now... I'm currently not thrilled with this glimpse into the new age of F2Play where they add more stuff that you can additional fees for.
Now, I know this is just Vet Rewards and that you can earn these rewards by being subscribed (So... 7 years later for a new player).
We'll see how the store looks when it comes out. Will there be more than our free points can provide? And will it consistently be more of an expense than our regular sub plus a couple of boosters' worth?
I'm just not thrilled to see fancy costume options being locked behind 7 years of vet status. That's my complaint. Now we can buy our way there... Okay, I guess that's an improvement, but it's not a great first insight to the future, as far as I am concerned. -
Quote:There is certainly no one taking Bill Bixby's place yet....
That's what really hurts both movies in the end; Robert Downey Jr. gets to flesh out and have fun as Tony Stark; Chris Hemsworth gets a chance to be charming and heroic as Thor; and Chris Evans has proven he's got the charisma to stand out as Captain America. Even Scarlet Johansen gets to show she has layers to Black Widow. What Hulk doesn't get is an actor who gets to explore the evolution of the Banner/Hulk dynamic, and Mark Ruffalo is really just there to wait until he Hulks Out.
Maybe Joss Whedon can give him some moments, I am hoping so. But someone needs to come to the Hulk property as an actor and have the passion that Norton did but not the ego.
S.
Although, I will say that any actor worth his salt will be able to go through all of that character searching without having done any previous films.
Whether or not we're lucky enough to get the right guy is a different story. I'll just say that it's possible. -
I mention it any time I can!
When they were implementing the first pass of Power Customization, they said General Power Pools and Epic Pools and such would have to come later.
User Interface work was cited along with just the time and development needed to alter the powers.
As Going Rogue was approaching around the corner, they told me (us) to wait until after Going Rogue came out.
Then it seemed to get pushed to the back burner, as development and coding was needed for the trials and the Incarnate system and such...
There were a couple of somewhat vague comments about things to come regarding powers, just recently... that I am hopeful is about customization coming for the rest of the power pools... but I am always hoping for that, so who knows.
Its great that they launched the Incarnate Powers with customization baked in.
Plus... I'd like to think that this helps them, perhaps in just a small way, with the UI work being done/started in order to implement that for all the other powers (that are not our primaries and secondaries).
So, yeah... Give us Customization for not only Epic Pools, but Power Pools as well... PLEASE!! -
Quote:Whether you or I liked it or not, the whole point is that these psychological issues were the cause for the monster inside Banner....Back to the plot, sure, Bruce had a horrible family life (excluding that stupid experimentation), but that kind of drama should be reserved for a few movies later when the Banner/Hulk thing starts to run dry (kind of like the Peter/MJ drama that ran through all three Spider-Man movies, even though it should have ended by the second).
That is why it is in the first movie. It's not additional subplot, this take was about that type of developmental trauma causing massive psychological issues... add in the comicbook gamma accident/experiments and you have a super-powered Jekyll and Hyde psychological thriller...
In theory.
I've been wanting to watch the first movie again for a while. I've only seen it once, when I saw it in the theatre on opening night.
I felt there were things wrong with it. I don't think they succeeded in what they were trying to do. I don't think I disliked it for all the same reasons as many others did.
And I honestly was left wondering if that movie was the end result of two sides (director and studio) pulling in different directions.
I enjoyed the second movie, but it felt a bit weak to me... Vapid, perhaps.
Plus... Jennifer Connelly shouldn't (can't!!) be replaced!!
-
I'm not sure where the "low damage" thing comes from (and maybe it is true?), but I have a level 50 Bots/FF MM and I've never thought they were low damage in the slightest, haha...
I tear through things. It is a lot of fun. Others join me and watch laughing maniacally.
Along the way, I didn't think it could get better... then the second upgrade came along... And wow.
I think some people are speaking a little more from the overly critical side of things (no offense, if that's their taste -to be that critical and focused on the numbers, more power to you!) because I don't think of Bots as being low damage at all... quite the opposite.
As for the knockback detracting from the damage... some times that may be unavoidable, but most of the times I have all my enemies pinned against a wall as they get slaughtered by a hail of laser fire and engulfed in flames.
And yes, Group Fly has had the -ACC removed!
And the AOE bubbling makes things SOOOO much quicker! I love it!
Also, I use Force Bubble a lot to help push everything into a corner or something and have my bots blast them to smithereens.
I made the character entirely out of concept and didn't know I had pushed the I win button until after I was already leveling him and some in-game friends were talking to me about it.
I'm surprised to see people talking it down... It's killer and I highly doubt you'll regret making one.
-
Sounds awesome, Tiana, and if you're all on the Virtue server, maybe we'll run into each other some time.
And I was going to mention what Lemur said.
The Super Sidekick feature in this game allows everyone on the team to play at the level of the Team Leader and/or the level of the currently selected mission.
So, if one of you makes a change, they can team up with you and play at your higher level (they won't suddenly get new power choices, but they'll be sturdy and powerful enough to contribute... and they'll level up pretty quickly and be able to catch up pretty well).
It also works to bring everyone down to a lower level (Exemp'ing), if desired (by selected the mission of a lower level character or by making that lower level character the leader). You still keep your power choices of up to +5 levels too, so if you're level 30, but you drop down to level 25 because your radiation-in-law slacked off and didn't finish those earlier missions, you'll still have whatever power you chose at level 30.
That stuff makes it great for teaming up and not having to worry about how we're all going to play together.
Enjoy!! -
Yay me!
I had no idea what any of this was about (until reading through the replies... and no, I didn't click the link! Yay me!!).
Carry on. -
I'm sorry to hear that, LSK and I wish you all the best as can be.
Jak, thank you. That is an amazing post and I felt tempted to offer a tiny bit of advice found within your well detailed post as well (but you've worded it all perfectly).
On behalf of anyone and everyone who can benefit from it, thanks for sharing all of that. And I agree completely with your advice. And I thought you worded your introduction perfectly as we can't know all the details involved over there, but just in case it helps, it is best to share whatever you can in kindness. -
Quote:Those sound like great dynamics for a triad right there!Since I've never played a game where having 3 of a kind was a good thing (except poker) that may be fun. But, as many of you have guessed, we do have different mindsets...
My hubby likes to stand back and control the flow of battle, whether that be through buffs, healing, or crowd control. He's the tactician.
The brother-in-law is more of a...let's just say, the non-tactical type. He likes to jump in and mix it up, whether that be in melee or ranged, he just likes to make things go boom.
As for myself, I'm in between and enjoy both! I do love to research, as gameboy figured out, but catching up on 6 years can be daunting. That's the type of deep end I enjoy jumping in, however
So many ways to go with it...
Possibly: Controller for Husband, Scrapper for Brother-in-Law, and... you may enjoy a mix, hmmm... If you have Warshades available, you may love them. I happen to love my Electric/Electric Blaster a ton... Some of us call it the Blaptroller, as we Blast, run in and cause high damage in melee like a Scrapper and also have a number of holds and immobilization powers like a Controller... Blaptroller! Other people also like Ice/Ice for these reasons... And Warshades as well.
Those were Hero examples. Dominator and Brute would also fit perfectly for the other two (as would many other options, of course).
Also... an All Electricity Team is a fabulous thing.
My powersets generally come from concept, so I have hard time suggesting which specific powers... as any and all of the ones i have tried have been a ton of fun.
EDIT:
I just have to add, that Kinetic Buffs are an often much welcome thing, so having one always with you can be super. Speed Boost not only makes you move faster, but reduces the recharge of your powers...
Not everyone loves it, but those who do can get addicted!! Having a constant supplier just sounds like heaven to this addict... -
-
Thanks Chad! I'm having one of those days where I feel like I'm using a lot of words to express things poorly!
Haha... *shuts up before going on and making less sense* -
Quote:Very well said.I think people who bash Twilight need to get a grip. It falls in the genre of Teen Romance, not Gothic Horror. It's like bashing Micky Mouse for not being a realistic portrayal of rodents. You need to consider the target audience.
Except...
I think rubbish gets blasted a bit more so and that's all that we have going on here.
Of course, this is a matter of opinion, but that's all it ever is.
Most people's opinions are that Mickey Mouse, Star Wars, Star Trek, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Nosferatu, Harry Potter and other things are not rubbish... So, while they certainly have their detractors, these things aren't picked on quite as much as... Twilight.
-
Quote:Yeah, you could make your first character there, load in, back out and make another (or even the same character) anywhere.hmmm, so I guess I'll start where they make me start then (kind of odd, but sounds like a good place to start anyway so why not). Thanks for the information. Back to checking out the AT's and waiting on the patch.
I think it is kind of odd as well (see their reasoning in my above post), especially since so much of this game is about freedom of options and choices.
ALSO... you need to make a character and load into the game in order to set your graphics and resolution settings.
So... you may end up loading in, changing the settings (and then you have to restart in order to make resolution changes) and then starting back up again.
So, making a second character anywhere you want may be the way to go.
Don't let that clunky introduction to getting started turn you off though. The game is a lot of fun and super friendly... and this company and developers really do work some magic and love this game as much as we do.
Just a few bumps to get there, but hopefully you'll enjoy it once you're actually playing!
Meant to say... when making your character's costume (if you care about such things) you can SAVE that costume.
Then, if you do just make this one to load in and restart to start somewhere else, you can make a new character and LOAD the saved costume right up. And not have to recreate it all over again.
Just figured I'd mention that, in case you want to go that route!!
