  1. Also, as Remus already implied, Editors aren't really the people to get stuff published. Editors in publishing are handlers and points of contact at the best of times, and taskmasters and guard dogs at the worst of times. While knowing an Editor who likes your stuff would be a major help in getting published, the publishing houses I'm aware of have relatively rigid submission guidelines. Mostly to prevent accusations of idea theft and the like. None of which involve databases.

In fact, I'm quite unsure how a database would help with poetry unless you were setting it up as some piece of interactive artwork to correspond with your poetry book.

That's actually what struck me more than anything else. It's insane how chameleonic Michael Sheen is. You wouldn't ever think that's the same guy who played Lucian in Underworld or the gravedigger in Kingdom of Heaven unless you know.

The rest? Meh. If it was a fourth part bringing in a younger co-star I'd be worried. Also see: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Die Hard. I'm sure there've been more. As it's only a second part however, I'm merely skeptical. All the CGI in the world won't save a crappy story. Also see: Avatar, Clash of the Titans (though that one had a slew of amazing actors; why they didn't pick one to play the protagonist I'll never understand, and the script was still horrible).

  4. I think it's hard to claim that Reincarnation is immoral in this setup. It's akin to claiming that condoms are immoral because they prevent the creation of new life. Yes, there actually are a few people condemning condoms in the real world, but in the main case it's because of having sex for pleasure rather than procreation being considered immoral. It's impossible to judge things that haven't happened yet, or their prevention on moral grounds because no-one can imagine the consequences in their entirety. I'm sure no-one would have minded if Hitler's parents had used condoms, but that's hindsight.

The only thing that is known is that the soul not reincarnating will truly vanish from this world. In that sense, I'd imagine that souls considered valuable would actually be encouraged to reincarnate rather than discouraged. Who wouldn't like Beethoven or Van Gogh or Jimi Hendrix to come back in some form?

There is always that. And he gets to play the hands-down coolest character in the story. I was worried about some of the casting choices, and I'm still unsure on the guy playing Jon Snow and Daenerys and Viserys just look like the makeup and hair department just couldn't make them work, but the others seem to fall into place just fine. Especially Littlefinger struck me as surprisingly well-done.

Curious to hear the melody to the Rains of Castamere.

Only that neither really qualify as Thrash. Compare to my personal benchmark for Thrash, Kreator, and the structure of the music has little to nothing in common (except maybe the odd track from Renewal).

And yes, I do understand the sub-categories, but as is becoming obvious, categorization only leads to argument. Especially when sub-categories beyond the really big ones seem to be kind of arbitrarily added or excluded or spread further.

(And Steppenwolf is listed under Hard Rock, Flarstux.)

I can't really get behind this. I mean, see above with regard to subgenres of music. But if it has lead breaks, it's not punk. Especially the examples the site gives for Black Metal are IMO clearly in a metal tradition, not in a punk one.

Gah, the more I look at it, the more I find wrong. Power Metal from Speed Metal? Death Metal from Thrash? Is Folk Metal even on this map, cause I haven't been able to find it. It's cute, and I'm sure it was a whole lot of work... but... yeah.

I really don't like categorizing music overly much. I call everything with guitar riffs rock and leave others to marvel whether it's Hard Rock, True Metal or Grindcore. That said, if I really wanted to get down to basics, I'd have to disagree with a lot of this. Black Metal derives from hardcore punk? Srsly?

And I resent the term 'Rap Metal' for Crossover (never mind that the entry doesn't mention pioneers D.R.I. and Suicidal Tendencies), but that's neither here nor there.
  9. I'm in the 'no Ledger' camp simply because I still hated his performance, though the script was probably more to blame for how it came about than Ledger himself.
  10. Peter needs to buy off that DNPC Disad. You'd think he'd have gotten enough points by now.
  11. 1) Snowmen aren't a Christmas tradition, they're a 'it's snowing, let's do **** with it' tradition.

    2) If he's never seen snowmen with genitalia, he doesn't get out much.
  12. Never mind Mark Strong as Septimus.

Though I can't for the life of me find Ricky Gervais funny. Even just telling jokes he botches the delivery on every punchline. Then again, he gets killed so all was good for me.

Networks. I got up to three computers (gaming rig, 'entertainment center' and laptop... oh, forgot my mobile phone) hooked to each other and a separate HD rig at home. Also, naming drives -especially removable ones such as USB sticks- in general makes them more easily recognizable than the mere drive letter.
  14. I demand Robin be made Pakistani to add even more colour to the team.
  15. Jakeem Thunder is the first one I can think of. Natasha Irons as well as Black Lightning's daughters, Thunder and Lightning are the other ones that spring to my mind right away. They're all 2nd generation or legacy heroes.

And Luke Cage is a Marvel character :P
  16. Finally got around to taking a look at this and all I can say is WTF?

Blaqualad? What was wrong with Garth?

Yes, alternate Earth, yadda yadda, but this doesn't do justice (meh, no pun) to either Young Justice or the Titans. Points for using the Mike Grell look on Ollie, though, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. Other than 'it looks better than Teen Titans' but really, I can't think of anything worse than Teen Titans, so that's hardly a compliment.

Eh. Considering that this is a construct made by humans, you'd think they'd foresee many complications and program said AI in such a way as to be unable to do certain things. Since the people programming such an AI are likely geeks, they'd start with Asimov's Laws and go from there. For one, no access to any networks so the AI can't spawn, and a mechanical killswitch to shut it off even if it somehow managed to get around the Laws of Robotics.

Frankly, I can't conceive of an artificial intelligence ever approaching being anything like the mind of a human being. Yes, we can already build software that can learn after a fashion. But only ever within the limits of its programming. You can't program creativity, logical leaps or intuition.

You CAN make some very sophisticated tools. But they're still just tools at the end of the day, not people. For that matter, most people aren't people but that's neither here nor there.

If anyone ever actually created the sci-fi kind of AI that is like a disembodied human mind, my reaction would largely depend on how it impacted my life and whether its personality was one I liked. If it didn't impact my life and I liked it, I'd be all for giving it individual rights. If it cost me my job or if I didn't like it, I'd be the first one to rally for pulling its plug.
  20. Am I the only one thinking that Mark Valley is starting to look like Mel Gibson as he matures?
  21. I really haven't got a clue. Back in the day while I was still in college, I was working security on the weekends to keep myself afloat. After some really nice cartoons they'd eventually show Buffy on the telly. Which still beat watching informercials, so I'd watch it. I just remember random bits here and there.
  22. I'm pretty sure I've even seen entire episodes where Spike did nothing but pine over Buffy. In a very unmanly way. I've no idea when exactly that was in continuity, mind you.

Frankly, I didn't quite take it that way. Mind you, the story of the Well of the Furies has hardly been told yet, with nine more slots to go and an endless potential of stories centered around it. Of course, if it was clearly stated that this was an actual retcon rather than simply the haziness of IC info vs. clearly spelled out OOC info, I'll take it in stride. I'll just needlessly note that this goes against a lot of established canon, including the Wildstorm comics.

At the moment, based on my I19 Beta experiences, my view's been that the Well is a conduit for this divine essence.

    A god with a gun

I haven't read all of this, but I don't think it's that hard. Incarnates channel the power of a divine entity. A guy with a gun getting even better could for example channel an entity concerned with warfare such as Ares or Tyr to develop an advanced grasp of the flow of battle, allowing them to foresee events and act before they even happen. Shoot at where people will be when your bullets get there, as it were. Alternatively, they could channel an entity concerned with crafts such as Exael or Wayland Smith to build a better gun. Hell, they could channel an entity signifying dance such as Huehuecoyotl or Michael Flatley to become a dervish raining down bullets.

Whatever floats your boat. I only regret that Tartarus is already spoken for cause he'd be the perfect fit for my main who deals in... repurposing souls. (And it's really a bad fit for Recluse anyhow. Recluse should have been Prometheus considering his agenda.)
