Also, don't forget about dual builds. As an Emp, most of your powers are useless when solo. You can make a build that skips these powers for when you are soloing, and still have a build that keeps them for when you are on a team:
Heal Other
Absorb Pain
Resurrect
Clear Mind
Fortitude
Adrenaline Boost
You can set up a second build at any trainer after level 10:

I was thinking of a new defensive powerset a while back based on what could be called "pre-emptive healing". It was more of a damage shield (or in Everquest terms a "rune") which would absorb damage until a limit had been reached and then it would fall. The powerset was planned to be similar to Force Field and Sonic, but with a different mechanism.
Force Field protects by causing attacks to miss through high defense
Sonic Resonance protects by reducing the amount of damage taken through high resistance
Damage Shield would protect by absorbing a set amount of damage before collapsing.
It would be kind of like healing, because the shielder would only need to re-apply the shield to a player who took damage. It would be pre-emptive because you would set up/refresh your shields before you started a battle, re-applying them as they go down.
Frankly, it is what I always though Force Fields should be. Most of the time in fiction, force fields are all or nothing. They protect 100% until they have been switched off or beaten down. Not like in CoH where a force field blocks a portion of the attacks while allowing the rest to come through for full damage. The Damage Shield would block 100% of damage (probably based on type to require multiple layers of shields) until it failed, and then need to be re-applied. -

(In fact, in some situations, such as where the tank takes more than half her health in damage each second, WoW raid healers will not even abort heals, because the cost in terms of mana is not worth the risk of a damage spike occuring just between the time you aborted it and the time the heal would have landed.)
[/ QUOTE ]
It was the same way in Everquest, especially during the golden age of raiding when 72 people or more were needed, and the plurality of them had to be clerics chain casting Complete Heal. On some fights you needed a Complete Heal landing on the tank every second. Whole chat channels were set up for raid clerics to call heals in order to let the next cleric in the chain know it was her turn. -

Any obvious factual errors, or embarassing editing faux pas.. faux... fauxes pas?
[/ QUOTE ]
In French, when a noun ends in s, it doesn't change in the plural -- in writing nor in pronunciation. As for the adjective faux, masculine adjectives ending in -aux stay the same in the plural. If it was feminine however, fausse would become fausses.
One faux pas
Many faux pas -
A brute is like a scrapper, but more tank-like. I say "tank-like" because brutes were not designed to be tanks. They do have tank-y powersets though.
A stalker is like a scrapper, but not as strong defensively.
A corrupter is like a defender but backwards, with their damage as primary and support as secondary.
A dominator is like a controller mixed with a blaster - control + damage
A mastermind is unlike anything else. -
We were partners for a protracted period of time, but our methods were dissimilar to such a great degree that in the end we were almost on a totally different plane of thought.
It all fell apart when we fought the minions of Satin. A fight that should have gone smooth as silk ended up too big for our britches. They were dressed to kill and we were caught with our pants down. I don't want to air any dirty linen, so I'll just skirt the issue. I do take my hat off to him though. He was a dyed-in-the-wool fighter, tough as boots. -

Rouge Demon Hunter is 29 on Virtue. She doesn't only hunt Rouge Demons but they are her specialty. She has a fierce hatred for them. That includes Scarlet Demons, Rose Demons, Fuschia Demons, Crimson Demons, and Cardinal Demons. She gets mildly annoyed by Salmon Demons.

has she teamed up with Wesley or Cordelia?
[/ QUOTE ]
No, but she has partnered with acute vampire who runs a detective agency called Angle Investigations. -

Rouge Spy on Virtue is up to level 20. ^_^ She was a member of an elite espionage organization, but after going rouge they kicked her out because of policies on excessive makeup.

I wonder how it handles pronunciation differences. Accents can be extreme and even a common word like "melee" gets pronounced many different ways (may-lay, mee-lee, mee-lay, m'lay).
"Orobourous portal" ... "Orobourous portal" ... "Oh-ROB-or-us portal" ... "Ore-oh-BORE-us portal" ... "ORB-or-us portal"... "screw it" *click* -
It uses what Pohsyb refers to as a "Burtle Hash" (ref: http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/I...al_Name_Colors)
[ QUOTE ]
Technically, its using a burtle hash on the name string, converting that integer into a color value, then brightening the rgb values 5 at a time until its luminosity is at least 127
[/ QUOTE ]
However a Google search for the term finds only three references to "burtle hash", one of which is the Wiki itself. Luckily the Wiki page does have a link to a reference page:

Want to know what your friend is up to? Meet them for a beer and find out in person.
[/ QUOTE ]
You are the second person to suggest that Twitter is a replacement for talking to someone. It isn't. It is a way to contact many people without e-mail lists or posting on a bulletin board somewhere. It is BROADCAST. One-to-many.
If I call all of my friends and invite them to "meet me for a beer and find out in person", not only will it take a long time, but it forces them to respond right then. A tweet saying "anyone who wants to meet for a beer, I'll be there at 7" is convenient for everyone.
If I send an e-mail to all of my students saying that the guest speaker they are listening to at the union tonight has agreed to stop by class tomorrow and they might want to think of some questions, they won't see it until they get home (if then). If I Twitter it, they learn about it immediately.
Sitting down for a visit happens after, not instead of, Twittering. -

Why do you grind at all? I don't understand why anyone would want to grind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Because in other games you have to grind.
Last weekend I was at a party and met a girl who told me she played World of Warcraft. I mentioned that I would be interested in trying WoW (I was trying to hit on her, don't judge me). The first thing she said was "Oh you should start a character! I could give you some gold to get you started and my friends and I would powerlevel you really fast!" I said thanks and that I would think about it. -

I don't see the point in Twitter. I would rather just call the person.
[/ QUOTE ]
But would you call 100 people?
Twitter isn't a replacement for a cell phone. It is a broadcast medium. It's a way of saying something simultaneously to all of your friends/aquaintenances. People joke about "I'm pooping!", but I love being able to say "Hey guys, half price pints at the Beer Shack tonight! Who's in for the big game?" All of my friends and co-workers see the post, and I don't have to call all of my friends individually and invite them.
Last week we had two teammates out sick for a softball game. One tweet and I had volunteers to fill in for them.
Think of it as a simple way to send a message to all of your friends at one time. -
So, ok, lets say a white minion attacks me, and I have 20% defense from SR and 15% defense from a FF bubble. His base chance to hit is (50-20-15=15%)
So if he rolls
1-15 = Hit
16-30 = Deflected
31-50 = Dodged
52-100 = Miss
Is that what you meant? That would be interesting -
I wonder how it decides which flavor text to use if you have multiple sources of defense. is it just random?
-
Clearly origin was originally meant to be more important. It is one of two icons shown over people's heads and in the search (along with archetype). Your info page lists origin up top, right by archetype. Even the "hello" bind by default says your origin+archetype - "Hello! I am Outlaw Sniper, a level 50 Natural origin Blaster."
But I do agree that orgin as it is currently implemented shouldn't have any new effect on the game. If they add things specific to origins -- even if they are completely "balanced" -- there will always be people for whome the new abilities don't fit or wish they had a different origin.
We already have Trick Arrow defenders who feel they have to be a certain origin, because that's the only way they can light their oil slick. We have people who don't take the Medicine pool because it feels too "techy" -

I thought the limit was 2 billion (2^31) for a single character.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is. Which also means you can bid, at most, 2 billion for anything in the auction house. Including things which do not exist in game yet are listed in the auction house. And money in a bid is not money on a character. So, 2 billion x (No. of auction house slots +1) is how much wealth, tops, a character can have access to, but no more than 2 billion at a time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, because the auction house will combine identical bids, you can bid 2B for a level 53 IO recipe in 10 slots and it will combine them into one slot of 20B.
Since the final slot can't be combined it is limited to 2B. So the true max is:
2B + 20B*(No. of auction house slots - 1) + 2B

I'm more interested in how someone can amass 5B infamy without being interested in IOs in the first place. Usually that kind of fortune requires someone be active in the market, and that usually includes playing with IOs. -
Oops, I posted there what I meant to post here.

From what I can tell, the "auto fire" starts to malfunction once you zone, interact with Wentworths, the Black Market, a store or contact. But as soon as you target a foe and engage in battle, it will fire as normal (even though it sometimes waits for a break in an attack chain) and will continue to do so until no foes are attacking you. After that, it returns to it's "broken" state.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know if this is what you all are experiencing, but a recent bug is that auto-fire will not activate if you have targeted a non-valid NPC of any kind. This usually happens to me after I leave Wentworths and still have the WW sales contact targeted. Even though my auto-fire is for a self only click (Practiced Brawler), it will not fire if I have a non-combat NPC targeted. If I target a villain or hit escape to remove the target, it works fine.
Cars, police drones, civilians, stores, zone guards, and contacts all serve to disrupt autofire. I just get in the habit of hitting escape to clear my target every so often. -

I've got a character named Epine Rouge. Roughly translates to "Red Thorn". I'm honestly surprised nobody has tried to "correct" me on the spelling yet. ><

Rouge Demon Hunter - She gets tells daily saying I misspelled her name. I ask them to read her bio and get back to me. I also have the names Satin's Minion and Fallen Angle saved for my next two projects.
Baton Rouge - She is a mace tanker with a red police baton. Her Praetorian counterpart is a mace brute named Baton Rogue.

Wow, haven't played Star Fleet Battles for years. I still have all my stuff in a box in my closet. I should paw through it for nostalgia's sake. -
I ran this just last night. I did enjoy the arc, and was thankful to find a custom group that wasn't overpowered and a pain in the neck.
However I did think that the story could have been offensive to lots of people. It wasn't over the top enough to be immediately identifiable as parody. The story of a group of lesbian villains corrupting female heroes and turning them gay could easily be seen as inflammatory. imagine if it were the other way around. A bunch of gay male villains kidnap and overpower heros and turn them queer? Not a chance that would be allowed. Also, the "Lesbification" machines seemed over the top.
I did like the "toaster" joke. Although from a storyline perspective I was disappointed that my female hero was in no danger of being converted. -
I was wondering why the Mid-Level arcs are [MLMA], the High-Level are [HLMA], yet the Low-Level are [LBMA]. I realize that it stands for "LowBie", but why not be consistent?
[LLMA] is better, in my opinion. Not everyone uses the word "lowbie". -
I want to be able to *exclude* words or phrases from a search.
After doing arc followed by arc with custom minions that blind, throw caltrops, mez, and debuff me so much that I can't get through the first room, I'd like to be able to play a mission with some properly balanced and familiar enemies. Allow me to do a "-custom" search that will show me only those arcs with no custom enemies. As it is now I just think of a level appropriate enemy group and search for that. -
If I were paying an hourly rate then I would always be thinking "I'm paying to be on this crappy PUG?" or "Why am I paying to sit here LFT?" With a flat rate I know that I'm not costing myself extra money to fly around pointlessly clearing all the fog from the Independence Port map while I look for a team.
