  1. Architect Bugs:

Starting animations set for bosses never work.

Mission goals once completed sometimes take 5-30 seconds to actually get marked as completed on the mission. This has included rescues and collections as well as the mission completion on a defeat all.

As Azure mentioned, after about 5 lines of text on a souvenir the box goes in to seizure mode once you leave and return to it making editing impossible.

Rescue targets (captives) are marked as Allies instead of NPCs. They flee after rescue properly, but are not of the proper type.

The above causes you to be under a negative stealth effect the entire mission, at least that's the believed link thus far given the description of the effect.

Rescue targets (captives) do not use the specified models (i.e. Civilian), they use the enemy group minion models instead. This destroys the mission feel.

The contact picture on the send off screen of the mission (the screen after you click accept) is scrambled.

The file size meter is usually wrong, and a mission will have the publish button disabled as low as 95%. Text vs. parameters contribute to this, the more text you have the lower your percentage before the mission can not be published.

Specifying the back of the mission for the location of a mission goal does not work about 50% of the time. The boss or object will be somewhere else in the mission instead. It's unclear if this is map or setting related.

Bosses in groups will sometimes not show up, and minions of said boss groups will be alone without the other minions entirely.

Battles lack a setting to make both sides mock fight and attack the player only, and they trigger at a massive distance. The inactive and active text for Battles is pointless as it is spoken simultaneously, this would only make sense in the traditional battle where they mock fight and speak the active text when agroed by the players. You never even get to see the battle as it's over by the time you get to it's location. As a result they are pointless and you can not create missions with conflicts as expected and seen throughout the game. Yes this is a "feature" complaint and not a bug per se but it ruined my mission intent
  2. [ QUOTE ]

My arc uses 2 custom groups (and a stock enemy group) of which one custom group has 3 minions, 2lieutenants, 1 boss, and 1 Archvillain, the other has 2 minions, 1 lieutenant and 1 boss, plus 1 Archvillain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you only have one or two missions? You have more custom mobs in those groups than I do, and my custom group takes up a good 65% of my file space. With a lot of tweaking I think I managed to not cut to much story, but the description and back story had to be trimmed a lot. I really don't know what they expect to come out of this system when a decent souvenir takes 5% of your file space, that's just crazy.

I've also found in messing with settings that less text and more mission parameters allow you to get closer to the 100% mark without being denied Publish. I've also been looking at the actual file size of the mission and it's always over 100kb no mater if I can publish or not. There are definitely glitches in the system.
  3. Well after a lot of hair pulling and testing and failed attempts to get anything useful from support, I have solved the issue on my own. It seems the file size indicator is dead wrong, because anything over 97.75% results in you being unable to publish. I have reported this as a bug, but be warned that 100% is false, keep it to about 97%.

What really bites is this is to small to have a good 5 mission arc with lots of interesting mission goals and story. Granted, it's the creation of a custom enemy group that takes up a TON of space, so if you use stock things you're ok and have plenty of space. So much for originality, apparently they don't actually want you to make custom groups in a story, you can either do a story with a stock group, or a custom group and make a single mission, which pretty much kills the intent of a custom group in my opinion.
  4. I spent days making and testing a 5 mission arc and now I can not publish it. On the "my local stories" tab when I look at the arc the Publish and Test buttons are grey (disabled) so they do nothing. I can edit the mission and there are no errors reported. From the editor I can "save and test" and test the mission, so it makes even less sense for that button to be disabled on the other screen. What's the problem here? Has anyone encountered this? I put in a bug report but since it's a local story they can't look at the issue. I made a quick test mission and that shows as publishable for what that's worth.

    Sync Issues?

I never knew about the sync command before tonight. I have had to use is 4 times. relogging did not fix the issue, no amount of time would fix the issue. In one case I kept going back to the start of the mission over and over and over.... and there were no mobs in it until I did a sync. In another case I kept falling over and over and... well you get the idea. the server is NOT auto syncing, I had this go on for minutes until support told me about sync so I could do the mission. I also see the black market causes the game to crash tonight if you try to buy salvage. I'd say there are some issues and everything needs some bug fixes and reboots!
  6. Well, I know a lot of people complained about the invasion messages being on that server alerts channel, but I personally have no idea why. Moving the announcements to the system channel is incredibly dumb. Before, there was a bold red alert that was easy to spot and in a channel where there was no other traffic. Now it's in a channel where there is a TON of traffic from combat, team changes, etc. This makes it extremely difficult to see the alerts about invasions. Add this to invasions only occurring once in a while and you have a recipe of only catching invasions if they happen to start while you're passing through a zone. I would think an alien invasion warrants better attention than subtle chance, it made much more sense before today's patch.

Ok so I checked in with QA and the live teams to see what information we can use in the feedback process in the event you are still experiencing lag.

    Please post the following information:

    *Dxdiag:
    Server:
Shard (zone) you are experiencing problems:

This information will help us further narrow down where we are still experiencing issues.

Thank you for giving us feedback, we will continue to make optimization changes as we are able.

I really truly don't mean to be rude to a red name, but are you seriously asking this?
    Any system
    Any Server
    Any zone

When the Rikti ground troops land, the are IMMEDIATELY drops to a slideshow for EVERY player. If there is anyone who does not have this issue, I haven't seen them say anything, but I have seen hundreds of people rant non stop about the lag, and rightfully so because it's absurd. As soon as the ground troops stop beaming down, lag vanishes. There is something obviously wrong with the beam down of troops performance wise, and it's so obvious I find it insulting that there is any implication that it might be a scattered issue that you need any information to address at a specific level, it's GLOBAL.

None the less, here is my diag.

Note that I'm using the 93.71 drivers. This is because the 162.18 drivers create a 33% drop in framerates in the game. It's clear that since the login screen doesn't recognize these drivers as the latest, and there is such a performance hit, that you have not tested or coded against these drivers. Anyone using them is probably in a world of hurt even worse than those of us running the old drivers when the Rikti lagfest hits.

I'd prefer issue 10 to be: OMG We Fixed All The Bugs!

Instead of: Here's More Shinies And More Bugs To Go With Them!

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree completely. It actually disappoints me greatly that they are already announcing I10 when they just released I9. They have clearly gone to the model of "cram new stuff at the players so fast that we distract them from the increasing number of debilitating bugs we are to lazy to go back and fix". Sad. They'll make the game unplayable in no time at this rate. I for one hope that they jumped the gun a LOT with this announcement, and we see about 6 more patches with hundreds of bug fixes before I10 comes out. Seriously, shore up the problems and fix the bugs that we've been reporting for 1-2 years before dumping in more half baked content that makes things even more broken.

Other than that, yes, the planned content sounds interesting, if a bit light for an issue release. I mean seriously, from a developmental end it doesn't sound like they are adding anything new mechanic or structure wise, just rendering a few new models, reskinning a zone, and adding in a couple recipies. A couple costume options isn't that big a deal, there are no new power sets, no new level caps, no new mechanics like we just saw in I9. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect that with every issue, devs are allowed to go light for the next one, and there is a lot to be said for evolution of the game story and environment changes over time, but in return I expect some of those bug fixes. If you're not spending time on new mechanics, you best be spending it on fixing old ones.

I know I know, the expansions are free and what do I want for nothing. Well for a monthly fee I think I can still ask for bug fixes, and yes I'll take those over new content.

  9. What I find unfortunate is that these issues were known for 3+ weeks from the test server, and yet they were not fixed before pushing it to live. Why have a test server is you're not actually going to use it correctly to test and fix before release?
  10. [ QUOTE ]

In some instances, the issues you may be experiencing with the game are a result of failed connections along the way to the servers and not simply a problem on your machine.
The following tools can be downloaded and run to test the stability of your routing/connection to the various CoH servers.
    <ul type="square">[*] Windows 2000 and XP - ftp://ftp.coh.com/support_tool/netinfotool_XP2k.exe [*] Windows 98 and Millenium - ftp://ftp.coh.com/support_tool/netinfotool_98me.exe[/LIST]

I apologize for not reading the thread more to see if this has been mentioned, but this post needs to be edited with the new information. The tools are no longer at those links, there is a singular tool in the support_tool directory ftp://ftp.coh.com/support_tool. Some details about how long it takes to run and the output would also be helpful to most non tech people.

    Thanks!

  11. hmmm.... having read that post, I had to reply to it and ask him to back that up. You can read my reply, but simply, if he's saying that taskmanager and everest are showing fake loads on the additional CPUs, I need some proof to back that up, because that's not what we're seeing.

Thanks for the help with ATI's site.. oy. Now Visigoth also mentioned they recommend 6.7 or earlier due to some issues, but you're saying 6.8 run fine? Any feeling on how they compare outside of 6.9 being crap?

The smartgart message I get can't be dismissed, is always on top, and lasts for a full 2 minutes. It says it needs to evaluate optimal settings or something before the control center can be used. Seems like a lousy design to me, and being a fresh install it seems unlikely to be unexpected behavior, but if you have any info I'd appreciate it. It only happens with the mobility version of the driver though, which I still don't get why there needs to be a different version for a laptop, but I digress.

    Cheers,

  12. Thanks for the reply Bill, interesting stuff!

I'm glad to hear that in my test location you only get 50% higher frame rates, I find that acceptable, especially if you're saying the 6.9 drivers bite. My question there is, where in the hell do you get older ATI drivers?? I can't find an obvious link on their site for older versions like nVidia has, and I need both the normal and mobility 6.8 drivers to test now -_- I'm also hoping the 6.8 removes this absurd 2 minute startup of smartgart when you log in...

You mention this -renderthread 1 flag, where did you get that info from? I have run CoH and CoV on multiple dual and quad core processor systems without adding any flags to the shortcut and it uses the extra processors just fine. On dual cores it still maxes out both procs in heavy areas, on the quad core it used 1 and 2 fully, and a decent portion of 3, but never needed to tap 4.

    Cheers!

  13. Ok Bill, I'm in the midst of doing some extensive benchmarking between a slew of systems with my coworker because we don't believe the frame rates that a lot of people are reporting. In our experience they simply can not be true. But I'll save that for the final evaluation.

In working with the systems with ATI cards, I first ran them the same as I run systems with nVidia cards. Obviously that went poorly because some game effects, specifically water (I hate bloom and DoF), make ATI gag. Ok, so I turn off water, test again, now the frame rates are up slightly and I can actually get AA to work. I go though your settings in detail, and though the CCC settings seem to double the frame rates (no idea which one is magic, but something in there doubles it!), the tweaks in game couldn't yield more than 3fps from my settings. In the end, I still can't get to 30fps with your settings. This left me with a few questions.

    1. Under 3d settings, there is no such option as SmartShader. I assume this was in the 6.5 you discuss in this thread, and was removed in the 6.9 I'm using?

    2. Under AA, you make no mention of Temporal AA. I haven't tested it myself.

    3. Under AF, you make no mention of high quality AF. Again, no personal testing.

Are these all changes in the driver with the newer version? Have you made any changes to your settings with 6.9?

Under the in game settings, particle physics, you simply say enabled, but the options are low, med, high. What are you using?

Why do you turn off shadows? that got me a mere 1fps gain at a loss of visual reality.

Ok, so, my best test system with an ATI card is:
    2.16ghz core duo
    1.5gb RAM
    Radeon x1600, 256mb

My test location for all comparisons is Atlas Park, on the south end of the train platform, facing south looking even at the horizon. With this system and your settings, I get 24fps. Going up to 100% world detail and turning on shadows I get 21fps. I'd love to know what you and others with these settings get in this location, because the frame rates only get worse with lower end systems, and all my testing is being done at 1024x768 (with the exception of the above system being 1280x768), so I imagine I'd see a hefty drop going to your resolution.

I have also seen evidence that the newer the driver version, the lower the frame rates. In going from 6.4 to 6.9 on one system, I saw about a 20% drop in frame rates with no other setting changes in CCC or CoH, and on another going from a very old 6.14 to 6.9 I saw a 50% reduction in fps. I'm curious if others have seen a similar radical drop in performance over time.

Oh, one odd footnote regarding Catalyst A.I. in my testing. Disabling it gave a 50% increase to frame rates if AA was off altogether, but a 75% decrease if in game AA was on. I didn't test CCC AA however, but this initial finding was interesting.

    Cheers,
    Ebon
  14. This is by far the most useful of the newbie powers, you can use it for life, where every other orgin you stop using the power after a few levels. I'm betting it's only a matter of time until they realize this thing is overpowered due to the debuff effect and nerf it. I was on a team of 8 right after I7 when AVs were still totally insane, and 5 of us were magic origin. We took down Dr. Vahzilock without any trouble, because we debuffed the stuffing out of him with those charms (and only those charms, we had no debuff defender on the team!)

If the hold from mutagen lasted a hair longer and/or always took effect like the charm debuff, that would also be a good power. Likewise with the stun from the tazer. The thowing knife? no idea there...

It's sad that apprentice charm is more useful than dark pit... of course anything is better than that worthless power...

As I run an LCD, Refresh Rate is meaningless so it's left at 60Hz.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is not true, refresh rate is not meaningless on an LCD, but that is a popular misconseption. Think about the name, refresh. It controls how fast the screen image is refreshed, which logicaly is better the faster you can set it. While the refresh rate will not change any sort of flicker effect like you get at low refreshes on a CRT, it will enhance redraw and reduce ghosting.

CRT screens have an electron gun that zips across the screen painting the image on the phosphors painted on the inside of the vacuum tube. The refresh rate controls how fast this fires, which at low speeds gives a flicker effect because the glow begins to fade before the next redraw. Higher refresh, higher quality, no flicker.

LCD screens operate by each pixel being a cell that opens to allow light to pass through, so there is no decay, so there is no flicker. However, the refresh rate still controls how fast the image redraws, just like on a CRT. By setting it to the highest refresh supported, just like a CRT, you get better visual quality because the data is updating faster, which on LCD screens helps prevent ghosting effects.
  16. Well I see the trend here is shots of characters, but personally when I want to make wallpaper, I want it to be scenic. Anyway, here is a site I made to house my screenshots of the game I have taken specifically for wallpaper use. I keep expanding it, and actually have several I need to upload. It's divided as you can see into CoH and CoV shots. Enjoy!

    I5

So far I have three bits of feedback on I5 problems.

Scrappers are nerfed, there is no debate here, support pretty much confirms it, and I don't understand it. My scrappers are now less powerful than my defenders which should not be. Since the reduction in resistance, a scrapper will inherently take 2-3 times the damage from an attack that a defender will. For a melee class this is absurd, I fail to see the logic. Even with defense boost powers the scrapper still takes far more damage per attack than a defender with no protection at all. You have taken a melee character and given them a severe glass jaw. I can solo twice as effectively with a rad defender than a dark melee scrapper because the defender takes easily half the damage from attacks and has attack powers that recharge 3 times faster. The attack may do half the damage, but I can use it so often my total damage output over time is higher. Not only that, but because it is ranged, I not only take less damage from attacks, but can also keep out of range of the more powerful melee attacks. The sum of all this is, you destroyed scrappers as a melee class, or at least destroyed them for effective solo play as you need 3 layers of shielding.

The second item is defiance for blasters. It is an interesting idea, but I was uncertain a powerful offensive class needed such a boost. In a way I'm pleased to see it has almost no impact at all because you need to be about dead before if makes a difference. Since I know this was not the intent however, I would agree with numerous others that it needs to kick in sooner. It has only happened once that I was within a whisper of defeat and one shot killed the last mob that I had not yet damaged because my defiance was maxed. By and large the boost seems insignificant, and what normally happens is the mob and I defeat each other with the final shot, which is about what it was before. Perhaps however the intent was for defiance to not have an impact solo, but rather in teams. In that case it may be much more effective if you had layers of protection on you to keep you alive longer when the defiance is high. However, that same protection would make it very hard to get to the point where the defiance was boosted, a sort of catch 22. If all this was the intent, that it was a minor change, then so be it. If you were trying to make this a noticeable enhancement for Blasters I think it needs work.

Last, where is the XP boost for indoor missions that was hyped so much? Did I miss a retraction on this item? I have seen zero increase at any level up through the mid 30s to XP. There is no more XP normally, nor in missions, nor for the mission reward. I was very much looking forward to this as I feel the XP ramp brings you to a halt in the mid 30s, hence I never got a character past this point because it takes 2 weeks of casual play to get one level. Alas, there has been no change as advertised and I still can't level these characters at more than a maddening pace.
