Quote:I actually forgot to say this in my original response, because it looked like it was going to turn into one of those epic threads that we've had far too few of lately. Marketeer-focused rage has left my cups o' tears a little dry these past few months, to be honest.Well, congrats to DevilYouKnow. ^_^ I have a lot of alts too, there are myriad ways to spend all that money.
DYK, good job.
There is no "honor" or "dishonor" in playing games with fake money in which patience will allow anyone to bid +1 inf over a flipper's lowball offer and get what they want for "cheap +1".
And I don't generally flip, for the record. Much more inf to be made off the folks who are willing to pay exhorbitant mark-ups to buy pre-crafted IOs that I can make 20+mm a pop on. -
Quote:I'm sorry, could you start over? I was off kicking kittens and evicting my grandmother from her hovel, and missed what you were talking about.I don't play the market (much) to me it is the most dishonerable and more importantly: boring, way to make inf.
I make enough to IO the characters I need to but I never have such a massive surplus because once you have everything you need, the excess has no value. Using your time to earn more without need is a significant waste of $15 a month unless you actually enjoy it (which I doubt). If you do enjoy it, why? It is just because you enjoy taking inf from the needy? -
Quote:For youIt's been like that for years, the fact that it's still not resolved is either laziness, contentedness, incompetence, ignorance from one or more people
-
Quote:If there's a need to apologize, it's mine. I've been somewhat high-strung lately, and had actually spent a half-hour or so going back and forth between a market window and your original post trying to come up with a constructive way to do what Yomo seems to have done before giving up and offering my brief Golden Girl-esque original reply.I'm sorry if my post read that way, it wasn't intentionally so at all.
Sorry I wasn't more helpful. -
Quote:I'm trying to decide if I actually need another premium-level account to go with my 2 VIPs. It's certainly enticing, and does demonstrate that at least someone understands the "micro" part of "microtransactions".I was able to create a third game account under my master account using a code I just purchased for $2. So it works.
I figured for $2, I'd take the plunge and find out. -
Quote:You come across as defensive, and I'm not sure why. I may be reading tone into your statement that wasn't intended, but that happens on the internet a lot.Commentary aside, if you want to make a counteroffer on anything I'd be happy to hear it.
If this works for you, super. I've got bids in on some of those purples you mentioned that are twice what you're offering, and they aren't filling. If it turns out I can buy for a substantially reduced rate by posting lower offers on the forums, that's good information to have. -

Quote:That was, in fact, my point. The 5th Eradication is pretty much useless as far as set bonuses go. The 5 slot bonus is debt protecton. I slot either 4 Eradication, or the full set. There is no sense at all in stopping at 5.
As to the other suggestion just to scrap the build, I don't think that's needed either. There are things that are under- and over-slotted, but I wrote some of that off to play style. And compared to what can be done with ss/ea, this didn't strike me as that expensive of a build. -
A few semi-random notes:
Entropy Shield only needs one endred.
I'm not sure the HP bonus is worth slotting the KB Protection IO, since you don't need it for KB Protection.
If you change KO Blow to 6 Mako and move a slot into Combat Jumping to boost your defense (level 50 common defense IO or level 50 LotGefense), you end up soft-capped to neg as well, and are still above the soft-cap for s/l.
In general, your +Def(all) powers (Combat Jumping, Maneuvers, Weave, Energy Cloak) are under-enhanced for defense. Play around with the enhancements you slotted on them to see if you can get more defense bonus from them; the more you get from your powers themselves, the less you have to rely on sets.
The fifth piece of eradication isn't as useful to you as adding something like damage/end (or acc/dam/end) from multi-strike would be, since the quad by itself just doesn't mitigate endurance usage well. I dropped the A/R from Eradication for the A/D/E from multistrike on my ss/ea?
Energy Drain feels under-slotted. -

The reality of writing for a large, shared-world, setting, is that you will inevitably have people who believe that you are "doing it wrong," that the storyline is not what they thought they signed up for, that the decisions you have made without consulting them conflict with the decisions they made about their characters (without consulting you), and that if they were writing things, Everything Would Be Better.
There are always going to be continuity problems with a property this expansive, and there will be unevenness in the story-telling if it's allowed to be done by more than one person. These things are true in every fictional universe that people emotionally invest in, whether it's the SW universe of LucasFilms or the CoH universe.
To the "What do we do about it?" question, the answer is simple: Take every opportunity to give feedback, be respectful and precise when you give it, and direct it to the right people. -

Quote:Fascinating. I've never seen a miss notification with it, and Mids doesn't list Accuracy enhancements as valid to slot in it.This is false. Powersink in /ELA is auto hit. Energy Drain can and will miss. I would think that with Energy Drain being changed into a clone of Energy Absorbtion from Ice/ that it will keep the tohit check in the revamp.
edited to add: It's also listed as autohitting foes in RedTomax's database -
Quote:Thank you for taking it as intended; I was pretty tired when I wrote it up.EarthWyrm i have taken your critiscm constructively and will implement these changes, thats been a big help, i knew i mustve did something wrong, will post the build once im done,in response to Pine, if you dislike my choices maybe you should explain why rather than waste a post based on what you "dislike" and maybe give constructive critiscism as did EarthWyrm who explained in a more respective manner, thank you.
There is no "right" or "wrong" way to build a character, and my own /EA build has evolved numerous times. One thing I would point out is that with some more finessing (and probably the loss of a little more psi defense) you could get all six major types soft-capped without the use of the 2-billion-plus PvP IO. I use it in my build, but that's because I wanted a build that "does everything" and getting another 3% out of one slot was just too efficient.
Good luck with the character! -
A few thoughts, in list form because it's late and I don't think coherent paragraphs are in the cards for me.
The knockback protection IOs are 1000% not needed (unless you plan to PvP, in which case /Energy Aura is probably not your best bet...). Assuming this is a PvE build, I'd move your uniques into the passives and allow yourself to slot Tough.
If you're actually going to use your Fighting pool intro power, boxing is both faster to animate and cheaper to use than Kick.
With Energy Drain, you don't need 3 slots in Stamina. 2 will do.
I prefer the Regenerative Tissue unique to the Miracle unique for /EA, because of its strong end management.
Energy Drain doesn't have a to-hit roll. Using pieces with accuracy components in them is a waste of %'s.
I think you had 6 LotG globals in there, which breaks the "rule of 5" cap.
It feels like you burned way too many slots getting psi defense that's still not at the cap. More on that below.
Patron pets are worse than useless on Brutes. They're minion-class and don't even make good speed bumps. I know it's there for the psi defense, but this is 5 slots you could be using in better powers. If you drop the Striker entirely and take Taunt instead (or anything else that doesn't require slotting; having Overload as an "Oh crap!" button, even with one slot, wouldn't be terrible), you can move those other 5 slots to places they'll benefit the build more consistently.
For example...
2 more slots in Power Shield for a LotG Def and Def/End gets you a ton of value-added to your F/C/E/N.
Dropping 2 more slots into one of your 4-slotted defense powers (since you need to get rid of one LotG anyway) for a set of 6 red fortune gets you to 43.5% Neg, and picks back up the 5% recharge you'll lose when we yank the crushing impact set (below).
Taking a slot from stamina and one from SJ (the third Zephyr really gets you nothing that you need, once power shield is slotted) lets you get Tough to 3 slots and Energy Drain to 6, so that you can drop 3 reactive armors into Tough and another 6 Red Fortunes into ED (once I21 hits) and be soft-capped to all types but psi, and the only hit your psi has taken is the 5% from losing the purple pet set, which leaves you at 36% and using the same small purple insp that you needed to soft-cap psi originally to get to the soft-cap.
Swapping the Crushing Impact in Body Blow for 4 Kinetic Combats and something to fill out the stats (I like Nuc's, but that's me) gets you further above the cap for S/L than you were.
This would put you at 48.9% s/l, 50.2% f/c, 55.7% en, and 46% neg (so you could technically harvest a slot from SJ to use elsewhere and still be above the e/n soft-cap). That's all before you get the bonus from Energy Drain, of course.
I also think you'd get more out of Soul Mastery than Mu, but that's a separate issue.
All of the above are just my thoughts. In the end, build the character in the way that's the most fun for you. -
Quote:Unfortunately, as you've seen throughout the thread, going down to an older version of the ATI drivers is the most common solution to this problem.I am hesitant to uninstall and reinstall to an older driver ... but any suggestions would be helpful.
My computer is only 4 months old, and I'm rocking the 11.2 because anything newer causes lock-up. -
This thread is epic. It has literally redefined the word "discussion" for me.

Last night I ran into a new and somewhat bizarre issue. I ran into a mission, hit Spin once - and then it just sat there as a tiny, non-recharging dot in my power tray. I died due to lack of damage output, zoned out to the AE hospital, and still had a tiny, barely-recharged dot in Spin's slot. I decided that maybe logging would help, and as the countdown approached zero the button started coming back. When I relogged, though, it still hadn't quite finished recharging.
It happened one other time, with Lightning Field rather than Spin. I got killed by random burst damage where a lot of things hit me at once without more than 1-2 oranges running, zoned out, and LF was a tiny dot. It took about five minutes to recharge, and relogging didn't help. It wasn't just a display thing, either; if I clicked the teeny-tiny button, I got the "Recharging" message. I even made a macro to activate the power, thinking that might be a workaround, and got the "Recharging" message.
Anybody else run into this?
This would be my second CEBR, on a new server. The second one really is easier than the first.
Oh, and whoever asked about Sands of Mu?
Don't. Your other claws attacks and brawl are fine if you want fillers. Sands will root you, keep you from chewing inspirations, not benefit from Fury, and get you killed. -
Not only do I approve the edited edit of the pre-edited story, I commend the moderation team for attempting to keep the flavor (no pun intended... mainly...) of the OP while somehow managing to create a hilarious new CoH meme.
I hereby declare "pancake" the new "FREEM!".
Well-played, Mod7. -
Quote:There is nothing in the posting as it stands that inspires me to respond to some random tell from some random player. Fortunately, I read the original posting, and actually spent some time offering advice to a relatively new player as a result.Deleting the expletive completely alters the anecdote. Instead of a cautionary but ultimately uplifting tale about judging a newbie by a first (crude) impression, it becomes an unremarkable feel-good account of bland gaming.
Anything else I could possibly say here would violate forum rules about discussing moderation, so I will instead take my concerns through the appropriate channels. -
Quote:Yeah, that pretty much covers everything I'd come up with, and then some. Guess I'll just go back to self-PLingLimit Inspirations to 4 or 5 at a time each, make the Brute damage cap lower at lower levels like other ATs, scale the Fury bonus by level somehow, cancel Inspirations when zoning, only allow a single ambush to be triggered per boss or object, probably more stuff. But no matter what they do, people who want the best rewards will find an efficient way to get them. There will always be a big difference between what the devs design as a fun way to play the game and attract players, and what the min/maxers will do to get the best rewards.
Did you actually just come on the Brute forums and suggest gutting the AT's inherent power by half? -
I don't know that I'd go that far, but I had already started a Claws/Elec before you posted this, and was considering posting my "journey" once it was over, along with an analysis of what, exactly, it indicated needed to be fixed. I'm still working on that last part, but have a couple of ideas.
Whatever the "designed" level of reward/time is, I think the various AE methodologies currently in use have kicked it in the teeth. Inflation on high-end IO prices is telling me that we're getting a massive influx of wealth into the system over the past few weeks, and I'm anticipating consistent 1bn prices on single pieces of Apocalypse and other premium purple sets by September if wealth generation continues at this pace. -
Quote:Yup. Intellectually I'm right there with you. Unfortunately, my proclivity for playing brutes leads me to not always approach this game at my highest possible intellectual level. It's unfortunate for the hardcore players that there's this information > delivery lag, but we shouldn't get too frustrated over it. They have to take advantage of the summer convention season to generate some buzz about the big changes coming.
It doesn't mean they're not eager to deliver it to us. It's just a concession to real world timetables.
I can wait, and I'll find ways to amuse myself in the interim. It's not like I get paid (much) in the summer anyway, so I'd just feel guilty dumping $50-100/account right now on sundries. I suppose that they're doing me a favor by dragging it out, since a lot of what I'm seeing are impulse buys, and I tend to have better impulse control with a 2-month cooldown in front of me.
