If the fixes coming later this week work, then we should still have plenty of time left for the Headstart to take advantage of the discounted prices. -

I understand you're just the messenger. I understand completely that the team has been working on the problem. While I appreciate that, it also means that the "head start" for mac people really isn't much of a head start. We will have to wait a week after for the first server fixes to be published before we can use the market.. which is, make no mistake, the cornerstone of issue 21 in the first place. We use it before the fix, we might not be able to start the game up again without having to go in and remove files and wave a magic wand and whatnot to get BACK in.
No, I am not pleased. This should have been caught a lot sooner, and it was reported a lot sooner. While I thank you for updating us on all of this, I'm not going to sit and say "hey a week later after release is just fine with me", because it's not. I'm a subscriber. I pay for the game just like the other PC people who pay for the game. It's not acceptable to feel like a second class citizen and be told "we'll fix it within a week".
I'll be watching for that update within the week... -

However.. now it seems that if it's crashed, I can't get back. I'm attempting to run the repair again.. but it then crashes the launcher. heh. -
New problem!
I don't know if any of this information helps, but it came up AFTER I had been logged in, was testing the market and then all of a sudden the market went wonky and the game locked up and wouldn't let me log out or anything. After a force quit and after trying to repair the beta from the launcher twice, this is the error information that came up:

This is most unusual. I got in! (after the repair) and then was able to see the market.. READ the market.. even use the market! But then after a few.. the market locked up and I couldn't log out or quit or anything.
So I force quit. And then now when I go to the NC launcher.. I can't get beta to launch again. Still I can confirm that the graphics settings were WAAY updated and that finally it fits to my screen and at the proper resolution! It looked SMASHINGLY better than it did before! However.. now it seems that if it's crashed, I can't get back. I'm attempting to run the repair again.. but it then crashes the launcher. heh. -

You know.. I'm gonna go on record here and say that while I do like PVP, I just don't like how it's done right now I suppose. That's nothing new. There's a lot of people (the devs included I am sure) that think it's way off kilter and remember all the things that Castle was trying to do to just plain muck it up.
That being said, I didn't think there WAS any PVP on virtue. I know there is on Freedom, and it can be fun if you play in good spirits. But on Virtue, where role playing is king, I would think that PVP could be the ultimate role playing experience.. as long as players aren't going to be doo doo heads and just spam an attack for no reason other than to be annoying... I mean you don't just up and attack a villain for no reason until you see them breaking the law. That'd make you no better than said villain..
... okay back to my point. There's pvp on virtue? -

Okay that sounded old. Now on to the topic at hand! I am in complete and utter agreement about swinging as a new travel power! Good lord, there are quite a few toons that could benefit from this! Lately I've been getting OUT of the taking a travel power gig, that is since flight is still slow (before issue 21 and afterburner!). I don't know how difficult it would be to make this.. but I DO agree that it'd be a boon to have this in the game.
I suppose we just need to tell the Devs in the nicest way possible.. and with many many cheese cakes.. that we'd like to be able to swing through the city. Pardon me.. I must now begin baking the first of the cheesecakes.. -

thank GOD I am not the only one this happened to. I was seriously beginning to doubt my sanity when I kept checking the account information to make sure I was STILL able to play! Well.. I'll keep an eye on this til a red name actually posts and tells us what's going on. I just hope that it's an issue that is resolved before issue 21. Most of us wouldn't like to wait til they get that puppy up and running to create and play our fun new ideas!

We're goin WAAAAAY back down memory lane here, back to the time of Cuppa Jo and her city moderating days. I remember the player survey that was given to us MANY years ago that asked us where we'd like a new zone. Well since it was the arrival of kheldians at the time (yes that far back) a lot of us clicked "outer space". Now low and behold, outer space is mentioned in GR. Maybe I can haz space suit!
Regardless tho, I share your conjecture about post level 50 content, and we will see what happens with the mysterious "universal slots" that bring us to a mythic level 60. (makes me wonder however, doesn't that mean more powers?)
And in closing, you're right. There's very little information on this game, including information on the potential for beta release. Then again, I suppose they are busy trying to wrap up i16 first... -
Gosh you think you feel bad Shadow? I've been with the game for 63 months, gotten the packs, started some threads (some good ones thank you very much), beta tested COV, and still I haven't been invited to the tight lipped i16 beta group. So don't feel too bad. We're all gettin hosed. Ahh but when i16 DOES come out, I think we will be pleased!

I highly agree. That was the intention of my post, to try and see if this is something the community at large would like, being able to potentially swap out animations for similar powers so you can become more unique. Adding in that you can re-color those powers, and it's a whole new ball game for most players! Can we get a red name to chime in on this? (about the potential for it... in terms of activation time and ease of adding in to the issue..)

I know that issue 16 is still in closed beta and that the hype around the total revamping of the costume creator is all the buzz these days, (from what I saw in the published articles it IS looking much MUCH improved, all hype aside!) I've got a question/suggestion.
I happen to have a dominator on villain side that has electric powers, but have noticed that my electric powers don't look as cool as the heroic ones. Maybe its the color, maybe its the animation, or possibly even the combo of the two. However, I then switched to a forgotten 50 toon that I had and noticed I had a power called "shocking bolt". THIS animation was right on target for what I was looking for! (if you've ever been to croatoa, you've seen it from the witches that sap your endurance)
So my question/suggestion is this. I know that Martial arts and Super Strength are getting alternative animations for their powers. Is there a chance that the Electric people would be able to switch out Shocking Bolt's animation for some of their other power animations? Like Switching Lighting Bolt out for the animation from Shocking Bolt. I do believe this wouldn't change the damage the power does or has, just how it looks. Purely cosmetic.
I figured NOW is the time to ask while i16 is still in beta. Is this even a possibility? (Gotta admit, it'd make my Dominator's powers fit THAT much more..) -
Thank you for the new information about NC Soft Norcal, which is now Paragon Studios. One of the points that i was making was my hats off to Paragon Studios FOR porting to the mac. Hopefully this paves the way for Cryptic to SEE that there was a mac audience and that it too is a community with passion. (heck the star trek forums seem to be filled with passionate players, and that's a good sign for any game!)
Thank you all for your input about porting. You would think that it wouldn't be too difficult to do it since the game 'Star Trek online' has an open advertised line stating that it's 'built on the cryptic game engine'.. Ah well. In this case I guess we just can't all boldy go. -
Once again, just for clarity's sake.. my point was not about feeling "entitled" as much as it was "feeling like we've contributed to the game". Cripes. 60+ months is a LONG time to be with a game, and I'd like to think that I've done my fair share to help shape the game and how it feels. (tho, you can't blame me for AE! That's NOT my doing!) Again, my point is if you're as long time a vet as I am, then wouldn't you too be a bit spurned if they didn't ask for your feedback on such a HUGE change to the game? (make no mistake.. this is gonna really change the way we play.. and probably thrill role players everywhere on virtue..)

you know, I have been curious to see how is it that we can "curve" things in base editing? I saw a guy show me ONE time a long time ago what it is you can use to actually angle things in the base, but I don't remember what those things were to do it with
All I can remember is that you used a cubicle, then a cone lamp, and then.. the rest is a blur. ARRGH! Does anyone know?
Other than that the ambitious idea to create a community where people live IS possible. Once on Virtue, four of us created an entire three story dorm that housed 38 people. Two people per room of course. (The Academy of the Arcane) It was quite stunning. And very very fun to let people customize their rooms! -
heh. You're in good company. I too haven't been involved in any of the closed betas other than COV in the beginning. Back when pet controls for Masterminds were a nightmare, what with your pets running off and trying to "smack" everything in sight.. ohh those were the days. Still. BaB did send me a PM telling me that there are "a ton of 60 month vets" in the closed beta. My point wasn't that there aren't any in there, my point was that as 60 month vets, we've been with the game the longest and have seen the good AND the bad. I would think we were in a unique position to give excellent feedback. Ah but by my own hand, I have kept silent. From now on, I am going to be a LOT more vocal on the boards and in game with feedback to keep CoH/CoV in the flavor of awesome that it is right now!

Recently in the news, there was an announcement from NC Soft about Star Trek Online and Champions Online. The whole deal can be found here:

While I was excited to hear about the upcoming release of Star Trek Online from the company that brought me my favorite comic book genre MMO, I was equally dismayed to hear that neither game was available for the Macintosh. I did a thread search for both games, trying to find a definitive answer about what platform it would be available for, at one point the community rep for Star Trek online even said "this is a windows game. There is no plan for a Macintosh version at release." The excitement bubble burst.
My hats off to Paragon Studios for bringing COH to the Macintosh platform finally, but I am still very dismayed as to why NC Soft would not be able to port their new and upcoming titles to the Macintosh community as well. I was very surprised and flattered to see the amount of support there was for macintosh on the STO forums from the player base, but was equally dismayed when there was apparent lack of support from the community moderators. Don't get me wrong, the deal that Cryptic is offering for the games in the link above is real, and it was something I did consider. But if it's not playable on the macintosh, then I'm not going to add them to my repertoire of games that I like to play. Thank you again for bringing THIS game to the macintosh community! A shame that the others won't be following... -
Pardon my repost. I am glad to hear that exclusivity wasn't extended to those that attended comicon. However, I do have an issue with inclusitivioty not being extended to 60 month vets. I've been with the game since one month after it's launch, and it's been a heckuva ride since then! I've enjoyed it. But now we are about to embark on a new issue that really makes changes to how you start the game, and Veterans aren't a part of that? (or at least my beta invitation got lost in the mail?)
