An ambitious idea.
Hmmm.
Dammit, now you've got me intrigued, and my supergroup is already threatening to throttle me if I keep spamming their chat with buying items.

Ascent lamps are waaaay better than safes I've found. Not only can you use it to place items at intervals up the lamp, but by using the Floor Tile set as a backdrop, you can create things like this, my favourite part of the mansion so far:

Because what rich property developer wouldn't have a stunning double set staircase going upstairs?
I'm working at an apartment area for my SG. Well.. To quote one member it looks more like a student dorm. It has cobbled streets, a library, an out door BBQ and a small corner market. If I imrove my screenie skills I'll post something here when the base is done.

Btw.. Nice stairs Zortel. I find that stairs are a pain in the rump to get to fit properly.

I don't know why, but I think of the Angry Beavers when I see that Endless Stairs picture.
Anywho. This is an interesting idea. I don't have the Prestige to do something like this, but I'd love to see someone try this.
That endless stair is not happening in a proper 3d space. It is a 2d optical illusion.
Actually it's very doable in 3-d.
You just angle the stairs so that they go down while it looks like they go up.
Sure, in reality you could tilt stairs (lay the flight flat) so that they are on a level plane, but the landings would have to be warped. It is still an optical illusion at the end of the day.
And physics aside, I believe we can't tilt anything at the required angle in game.
...which use a lot of safes.

Edit: Leiter, I like your auditorium. Have you considered curving it? Of course it wouldn't be *my* effort adjusting everything - much easier to ask than to implement.
I'd love to see someone make a Space Station with that painting in mind. Save alot on space. Though you could go insane do to the lack of stability.
But doing a Base like that would be hard, the verticle areas would be unable to be furnished, that includes arcs and the such.

I'm rather happy with it as it is... the base is a military base, so sharp right angles fit with the theme. I do have a base over on Test that has a similar room that I might consider curving -- if I could get on Test.

They stopped asking once they'd had a look around the results.
I don't quite do all the "psycho-stacking". I like a good-looking SG base as much as the next person, but I can't leave anything half-finished, and I can't stare at the screen that intently forever without getting a migraine. Have still managed some very nice stuff with some very simple (and some not so simple) tricks.
Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas
Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

you know, I have been curious to see how is it that we can "curve" things in base editing? I saw a guy show me ONE time a long time ago what it is you can use to actually angle things in the base, but I don't remember what those things were to do it with
All I can remember is that you used a cubicle, then a cone lamp, and then.. the rest is a blur. ARRGH! Does anyone know?
Other than that the ambitious idea to create a community where people live IS possible. Once on Virtue, four of us created an entire three story dorm that housed 38 people. Two people per room of course. (The Academy of the Arcane) It was quite stunning. And very very fun to let people customize their rooms!

You can use certain light fixtures to curve wall details, I know... but has anyone found a way to curve floor objects? I would go absolutely berserk in my base with that information.

Recently, I've been working on a base for one of my roleplaying characters. Taking one of the 4x4 rooms, I've been constructing a mansion inside it made from white cabinets (Here being an exterior view of work done so far: http://is.gd/24T38 ) But then, when I was taking a look around another SG base of mine which I've been using a test bed, I had an idea...
We all know some marvellous things can be constructed inside bases with the stacking changes and so forth, such as mansions and buildings, but...
What about a street? Or a cul de sac? Or even an apartment complex in Kings Row. You can easily build a two or three story house, so what about building several in a room? You could build a garden too, with some planning. Or fences. The possibility is there for a gated hero community with houses and apartments inside. Instead of using a big room if there were issues with that, you could use a string of several rooms in a line, with a street running through it.
I may try this myself, but currently I need to finish the current house I'm working on (Curse trial accounts not being able to join SG's. I could really do with that 300k prestige infusion right about now!) and another base, but... well, it's an interesting possibility, don't you think?
