I felt like this thread should be bumped to celebrate the forums becoming strong and pretty!
That's right folks, the CoX Forums have just rerolled into WM/EA! -
Right. Thanks to Double XP weekend I've decided I shall have two 'projects.' My old Inv/SS tank and a Super Strength/Shield brute (because the new KO Blow is going to look nasty with a shield).
So playing around in Mids after about an hour, I finally got the thing soft-capped, but the money it's going to cost is astronomically insane. Nearly every core power requires nearly a full IO set to do it. There has to be an easier way to do this.
So I was hoping I could get some people to post their most inexpensive soft-capped SS/Shield builds? It has to be moderately realistic too. Sure, being soft-capped is great, but if you're running so many toggles you barely have enough end left to attack...
Anyway, help would be appreciated. -
Woo! Yay! Hurray! I was going into forum withdrawl, man.
And, yes, double XP weekend! It actually enabled me to get my first Tank past 20 since launch and I have to say: I love it.
I never thought I would like taunting and strategically attacking more than just pummelling the **** out of a single target in scrapper-lock... But standing in a sea of mobs who are all trying to kill you... and failing has to be one of the most awesome/super feelings I've had while playing this game. -
MA looks... okay. Don't like the baseball pitch either, Jacobi.
But the uppercut and palm thrusts are very nice looking and just being able to slot those in will give the set a very punch and kicky feel on their own. So I'm content still.
Now the Super Strength animations... those be cool. Very, very cool. The "Fist Stomp" is awesome. XD
Oh! Oh! And the metal spines? Badass BaB, badass. I think I'm looking forward to those the most because they're just perfect looking for a concept I have.

I see no reason not to include a Pistol Power Pool for Scrappers. Seriously Devs, it would take so very little effort and go a long way towards making everyone here happy.
For example.
You'd have the single shot
The control shot (kneecapping, etc, whatever the blast set gets)
A Renamed Targeting Drone/Focused Accuracy
An AoE Shot
And that would be all we'd need. Scrappers could be Martial Arts/WP/Pistol and so many concepts could be fulfilled. -

By "'Nuff said" do you mean "Doesn't count"? Because Statesman is not a tanker. He's an Incarnate... as in "living incarnation of a god".

Apart from Spines being able to use the geometry from Thorns, and Thorns being able to use the geometry from Spines (both of which can be colored), there will be at least one other set of alternate geometry/FX.
As for Martial Arts, the alternate animations we have right now are mainly punches. The idea was to provide you guys with a way to make the classic, fights with their fists and feet, super-hero that many have been asking for. That includes a new animation for assassin's strike (Assassin's Blow?).

Oh, hm. And I suppose with color tinting a /Rad secondary becomes less needed, huh? Thermal Radiation Manipulation = Fire Manip colored green. Same could be done for /EM. -
Still a great time to be a Blaster. A unique, fun, exotic damage dealing primary in I16 to be followed by Dual F'N Pistols in Going Rogue.

I will be making an ELM/SD Scrapper!
I will not hesitate to roll a Claws/Willpower brute and be a fury generating god.
I will FINALLY be able to roll my Radiation Blaster concept - WITH EYE LAZARS! Do you think this means we'll also eventually get a Radiation Manipulation secondary ala Psi/Mental?
I will be making an SD/EM tank with green pom-poms.
I cannot wait to see what they do with the ranged portion of Earth Assault. I'm having Stone Immortal Jade Empire flashes.
I wonder if the Ice Armors could be tinted in such a way that they look like personal force fields?

If Elec is ported to Tankers as is, what are we looking at in terms of resistance numbers? -

I would leave Storm Kick, Dragon's Tail, and Crane Kick as they are, because they're really rather basic kicks. I would, as others have suggested, pull a Clobber on Cobra Strike, but leave the unique animation. I would turn TK into a quick spinning backhand blow. I'd do -something- to EC, I'm just not sure what else would fit, animationwise, for a super burst attack.
Though, honestly, were I to completely rework the set, I'd probably make it something that looks like what the Kheld's have now. Several different martial art branches and stances that each hold their own flavor of attacks. One would have quicker, higher DPS attacks, one would have slower burst attacks, and one would be high in control, but low on damage.
I think it'd be the only way to make everyone happy, seeing as we all have a certain image of what "Martial Arts" is in our mind. -
Just as a follow up, I've decided to go with:
SK, CK, Air Sup (Boxing looked better, but that knock up has saved my bacon several times now), and CAK (the only one I'm not real happy about). I then throw Sands in there when I have a desire to be punchy.
It works -okay- conceptually and seems to perform decently at level 29. Though I think I'm going to try and make room for Cobra Strike and play up the controlly aspect of the set. -
So! Along with my Claws/SR scrapper (who I love. Whoosh!) I thought I might take a look at dusting off my MA/SR scrapper as well!
Now, I think I remember scrapping her because the higher level kicks really didn't look like the mixed martial arts street fighter I was going for.
So my question is, is it viable to replace CAK with something like Air Sup and Eagle's Claw with something like Boxing without completely gimping your already average DPS? I'm envisioning a chain with equal parts punching and kicking.

I'd rather see stun be an AoE with, at least, the same radius of whirling hands. There are plenty of single-target attacks in energy melee.
Besides, when knockout blow and clobber had their damage changed from negligable to extreme/superior/whatevertheycallit, the sets didn't already have an attack that did total-focus-damage, and energy melee has one that exceeds that.

Stun should get the clobber treatment and ET should be turned into an AoE. The size of the explosion when it hits would justify it.
That might make for a resurgance of EM. -

Yup.. EM was all about getting Energy Transfer for me. Having that one fast devastating attack made it all worth while. My EM is also perm shelved.

Totally should be. Or we should have been listened to when the changes were in beta. I'm one of the few people that really likes the ET animation, it's unique to melee toons. However, I'd have preferred it replaced TF and that ET would have remained with the same animation, just with the damage toned down a bit.
That or give Whirling Hands a buff, but I don't honestly see it helping the set a whole lot.

/Elec is awful when it comes to survivability. I'd probably even put it behind /Fire. I know on teams with my brute unless I'm in Powersurge I'm pretty much going to be the first to die. Part of this is EM's fault, however, as it doesn't offer swift, consistent mitigation like, say, Footstomp does.
Another issue I find with Elec Armor is that even with Aid Self you're pretty suck. Sure, it's up quite frequently, but because of the long animation I find that usually by the time I'm allowed to attack again I've been nailed for the damage healed plus some.
Even with tough and weave it doesn't get much better. A little bit, but because of the more prevalent exotic damage in end game, it's just not enough.

Yea, I really think the dev's should do something to seroiusly improve the set.
If endurance drain is to be it's "main" function for damage mitigation...then it definately need to do it BETTER than it currently does.
If not, then they really need to give ELA some form of Dull Pain or something. Or I'd even take something like Integrations level of "healing" in Static Shield or something...and/or up it's resists all around substantially...like 10-15% accross the boards

I think the closest thing to a buff we'd ever see would be a heal put into Power Sink similar to Energy Aura's Energy Drain.
And it wouldn't really be enough, but, what can you do? It's like shield or fire, you're trading off survivability for Lightning Reflexes and Lightning Field.
It's just not at all an even trade.
