Quote:Actually I think the Rularuu Eyeballs are pretty much THE Kryptonite for most of the toughest characters except Controllers/Dominators (yay Mez!).OP, I have a small experiment for you to try. Roll up an /sr scrapper or brute heroside. Level them to 50. Spend the money to softcap them. Run around and do all sorts of epic stuff for awhile. Tank AVs. Laugh at 8-man spawns. Enjoy the feeling of being almost unkillable.
Then take a trip to the shadow shard. Find a good size group of rularuu that includes a few of the giant eyeballs. Go try to kill them and see how long you survive without using any inspirations.
Then come back and tell me there's no kryptonite in this game.
To be a little less tongue in cheek, nearly every character in this game already has something that they are weak to.
Their attacks are weirdly typed meaning most sets won't have major resistances to it besides Stone, the Bosses hit incredibly hard meaning one or two can spike you or your pets down and they've got enough To-Hit to ignore defenses. -
Hmm this pack actually looks quite swish, especially that science cape, that looks almighty swish.

Quote:The tech for this is beyond ancient in gaming terms.Train could be harder...can't stand on moving objects with the way the game works now (and those you can stand on move with out moving you).
Maybe if they made some sort of train level where the train stood still but the whole instance moved giving the illusion you were on a speeding train....
The game Blood did the 'fight on the train towards the engine' level with exactly that kind of tech is the first I can remember seeing it used, it was used later in the 1st Unreal Tournament for an 'assault' map (assault and stop the train).
The terrain itself was basically a conveyor belt, the train didn't move but the level itself moved giving the impression of speed where there was none.
It also worked if you feel from the train and died as your head would be carried along on the conveyor belt making it look like the train was speeding off into the distance.
Now the question comes wether they could do that in THIS game using that sly illusional technique. -
Yes I meant Richard O'Brien, my mistake on that.
True they aren't obscure but generally meant just not megastars, to be fair I'd rather have Richard O'Brien, Tim Curry and Brian Blessed at a party than any of the big hollywood stars, I just reckon they'd have more interesting stories to tell.
Though I have a feeling I would have to provide earplug for people after Brian gets done drinking, the man is LOUD but that is why we love him. -
Yeah it is an odd question but...do you lot have any obscure/cult celebrities that you'd like to have at party?
For me there are three.
Richard O'Brian.
Brian Blessed.
Tim Curry.
Don't ask me why but I think that would be, for me, the most awesome party ever.
I know the first two are very down to earth, heck Brian Blessed even Gave his voice for a fan made prototype Sat Nav (watch to the end, hopefully it shall amuse you) -
Quote:Alright fair point, it will introduce a whole new generation to Rocky Horror. As has been stated here, there's a good chance this will expose Rocky to the "new" generation. Even if it's not as as good, it's a gateway drug. Also, if you're a fan of Ryan Murphy's episodes of Glee (Such as Brittany/Britney), you are probably the exact kind of person that must be shown Rocky.
I'm disappointed in the changes, but it's not an absolute wash.
I saw the film first then a large group of us went to see a stage performance.
Being a somewhat portly man I lacked the figure for a Frank N Furter outfit BUT I am a 'meatloaf' build so that allowed me to dress up as Eddie, however friend went Full Frank and even had help from his fiance to learn how to walk/dance in high heels.
Though we did have to go to some...interesting...shops to pick up stilletos in a male size 12 (UK shoe sizes different to US, just thought I'd note, 12 1/2 US size apparently) and the rest of the outfit, amazingly friendly staff though.
Thankfully London has an area called Camden aka 'the central London area of weirdness' where there are a range of interesting shops.
Yeah it is about the audience participation, to the point where someone in the crowd is 'designated heckler' (a friend was asked to be the heckler) so the narrator can provide snappy improv comebacks at him to the insults he threw.
Everyone danced, everyone joined in for the songs and on the whole was a really great night.
I'd recommend to anyone to go see it live and preferably dress up if you do, remember you don't always have to go Full Frank, you can always just be Eddie.
Edit:
For those of you that haven't seen/heard the original movie version (it started as a stage production before becoming a movie with the cast of the original stage production, then once the movie was done, went back to being a stage production)Here is the Tim Curry original of Sweet Transvestite -
Pretty much. Rather than simply being heroic for heroics sake (Paragon) you're heroic for the personal gain, while that does lessen the heroism involved, you still did something good.
Thanks to the writing you can sum up the four lines like this:
Warden: Hero.
Power: Selfish hero.
Responsibility: Blind hero.
Crusader: Villain (sorry but I can't see the Crusaders as anything but villainous, they actually act WORSE than the designated 'bad guy' Power arc).
Or you can see them as this.
Warden: Naive.
Power: Ego stroking.
Responsibility: Blind.
Crusader: Psychopath.
Which is why I like GRs writing. -
Quote:He got those closed attitudes by being as offensive as possible, hence skewing the results of his data, which isn't very scientific.I know about the research of Twixt and what i agree with him it does not have anything to do with this subject just like i said before but i have see very close attitudes in game like the ones his report mentioned.
Quote:So no matter what other game is good or not, that will not affect this great game. In some comments i see a lot of concern hidden under rough comments. In my case i am no longer concern since if CoX survived WoW over commercial sucess and survived all the new ones that come, why should DCUO be a threat? Learn to have more confidence in the game you like and to some users (not everyone in this thread) let's make a better community instead of throwing trash at each other.
The point I'm saying is the community is already good, it doesn't need to get much better, heck even our Trolls are either amazingly amusing (I love you ResidentBaka!) and Golden Girl has some merit on occasions. -
Quote:If you think what you've experienced here is bad...well I must say you really haven't experienced the worst forums that MMOs can offer.First of all i don't come here to get far. I am not the one who start telling others to shut up just because they feel free to post their opinions. So i post here just when i feel too and it is very bad that this place is full of closed minded bigots.
The following thing i will tell is out of subject but since i see how a lot people act here very primitive. After reading this post and many others, comparing different testimonies, the ''Twixt'' story was more than right about the attitude of a lot of people in this community. Sad but true.
So hate me, whatever, the time came for me to tell what i feel about the obviously unfairness of a lot of people here. There are a lot good people here so before you start interpreting things your own way to manipulate, this is not against everyone here
Remember the fact Blizzard were threatening the whole Real ID thing because they realised their forums are a complete mess? Openly hostile to new players asking question, generally rude and what useful information there is on there was buried under a ton of crap. It is seen as the worst gaming forum on the internet and Blizzard had to threaten to reveal players names because they thought that was the only way to clean up its image.
The Eve online forums are...strangely civil for a game where griefing is seen as part of the gameplay but I think thats because the game has a learning curve that curves so hard it turns into an overhang. Even there you will still get big arguements.
I won't even get started on the CO, AoC or the many unofficial WAR forums, the APB forums while the game was running were equally terrible.
Generally these forums are on par with the Eve forums, civil discussion happens.
The 'Twixt' story he went out of his way to antagonise as many people as he possibly could IIRC and generally acted like a [censored] all under the banner of 'scientific research' most of which was absolute bupkiss anyway with him skewing the results as he saw fit.
Lets take the guy who posted his video review of CoH/GR, the guy made an ungodly number of errors in it, had clearly 'not done the research' and while he asked for opinions, when people pointed all that out he got incredibly defensive and wouldn't admit he was in the wrong.
So don't act so heartwounded by a simple disagreement from other people.
Am I interested in DCUO?
No.
It has a COish art-style and much like CO is focusing on trying to be a console port (press Z to talk to a contact instead of just click on them? Really CO?). It has the whole WoW 'costumes as gear' element which just sucks in an MMO where customisation is key and generally doesn't look like a good MMO, I've played enough bad ones to spot a 'meh' one (I've played all the MMOs I've listed above, WAR, AoC, WoW, CO and attempted to play Eve but just couldn't get my head around it, Eve isn't bad just completely newbie unfriendly) .
The new Final Fantasy MMO is accused of this and according to all reviews it is basically a really, really awful console port. -
Rikti Drones have ridiculously high defense (for a non-AV status mob) naturally, so you're droping to 62% is about right.
They're the opposite of Rularuu Overseers, Overseers have enough to-hit to make defense meaningless while Rikti Drones have enough defense to make them a major annoyance. -
Ah that does explain it.
The movie is rated 15 here (equivilent to your PG-13 I guess...).
But then Rocky Horror (both stage show and movie) are seen somewhat as an institution here in Britain.
Rocky Horror is actually quite a high pick for the 'end of year' Drama school production during the College years (we start College at 16 here in the UK). -
-
Of course a hero would say.
Actually...why would I want the genuis level mad science super power...I know someone far more worthy of such a power. -
Strangely had this conversation with my friends.
All of us agreed we could NOT be trusted with powers of Superman levels, the potential to abuse them would just be too high and none of us felt we had the strength of character to avoid doing just that. It's the equivilent of the One Ring. Frodo offers it to a number of people who all turn it down because they know they would fall to its power.
If I genuiely had the mechanical genuis of a mad scientist level, well that is different. I'm very much a stickler for what a super-villain should be.
My namesake has a saying, "what seperates a super-villain from a super-thug is that super-villains have class and manners...and my dear...I have those in spades."
I don't think I could ever descend into true Monster levels of moral depravity but telling people to stuff it because I want to make clones of myself to help around the lab or holding the world to ransom with my weather-o-matic device...well thats just a given really. -
Quote:Gah...Sweet Transvestite...what did they do to you?!Previews of the song covers. Warning: Very low quality.
I begrudgingly accept the lyric changes. It sucks, but... oh well.
Edit: Apparently Fox blocked Glee from going full force with Dr. Frank 'n' Furter. Hence Mercedes and toned down lyrics.
Eh...sorry but most of those covers really kind of sucked, far too pop orientated for my tastes.
Edit:
Why was transexual removed from the lyrics if she says Transvestite the moment before...that makes no sense!
2nd Edit:
Also being played by a woman who still uses the term Transvestite has unfortunate implications moving Frank N Furter from pre-op transexual to post-op transexual, sorry just found that mildly amusing. -
Quote:AnnnndddddNever happen. At least not soon. We used to have skin exactly like that but to many were paring it with equally white clothing. And well. It was becoming a city of nudists. They'll have to edit all the skin tight costume peaces so that there seems are clearly visible before they let that happen. Ether that or add a program patch that prohibits skin tight clothes and the actual skin from being the same color.
You can already do this anyway.
Select the white skin option.
Select the 'tops with skin' option on the female body.
Select the white colouring.
Tada you've just made someone nude because the clothing actually blends in and takes on the skin colouration thing rather than being an actual solid piece (which is very annoying at times).
Or you could just select one of the many...many...many other colours that can 'sort of' match, you'll just have to be green and naked instead of flesh toned. -

Quote:Citadel is almost entirely all filler, I'd say it is the worse designed of the bunch at the moment, even moreso than Synapse, at least Synapse has a small bit of variety in the maps. Citadel is same map, same enemy group, all the time and the plot usually consists of 'clear out a council base to find something...oh nothing there...ok clear out another council base...and repeat until the last three mission of the TF'.The endbosses for Citadel and Manticore are kind of lame, too (Really, Vandal is kind of a weak AV. And whatshisface, the gorilla in a suit bodyguard you fight at the end of Manticore... yeah). That's pretty typical of the older content, really.
Numia is the worst time waster though, the grand tour of Paragon is a large time sink, completely boring (you either zip from Zone to zone clearing out grey mobs or you do what most people do which is dispatch people to the zones in advance) and overall in terms of the plot, virtually pointless.
Edit:
Yeah did Manticore TF yesterday and Hopkins was met with, "wait..is that the end AV?" and "This boss is particularly tough." response from people who hadn't run it before. You spend the entire time chasing Countess Crey but because the storyline actually ends in a Story arc they can't let you actually catch her...which just makes Hopkins even more disappointing. -
Quote:Rocky Horror has a big culty geek following (and a slightly more mainstream one here in the UK thanks to it being the home of Richard O'Brian).Fair point, I can see how La Vie Boheme might annoy the PC brigade out there, plus some of the songs have drugs references etc, but then again, Rocky Horror......transvestitism and incestous relationships?
The average American isn't going to even know about Rocky Horror.
Also, curse you Americans for getting this waaaaayyyy earlier than we Brits do.
Strange tangent...but it appears the the new Guitar hero is also tied in with this, since that is releasing a Rocky Horror download pack (Time Warp, Sweet Transvestite and Hot patootie) on the same date as this episode of Glee airs. -
Isn't the new FF MMO being used as a lesson in that Japanese developers just don't 'get' MMOs?
From what I've been told (this is hearsay of course) is that it basically follows the much older EQ model of MMOs rather than the general lean towards more casual play that western MMOs are slowly moving towards (and why Aion had to be 'westernized' because in its natural state it was your typical Korean grindfest MMO).
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though. -

Quote:I would love to see a poster mockup for this.Goliath War Walker + Kronos Titan + Clockwork Babbage = CAGE MATCH EXTRAORDINAIRE!

One thing did kind of make me chuckle with regards Emperor Cole's plan...
Huge Battleship: Spoilers: Incoming, no refuge!
He mentions that he'd take down the Mediport grid and thus it'd be a matter of days before eventually his army would succeed by grinding the heroes down.
1) Some people CAN self-revive Marcus...Fire/Dark/Regen scrappers/Tankers/Brutes can all get back onto their feet without need for the mediporter, infact with Fire/Dark it makes them stronger than ever for a few moments. Regen Scrappers can always just wait until Revive kicks around and then revive straight into a MoG.
2) Anyone with the ability to revive other people...there are lots of them.
3) Howling Twilight...that is all.
Though I would like to see the shock on his face where he wittles down a massive group of Paragonian/Rogue Islanders only for the last one standing to fire off Howling Twilight...then all the superheroes get back onto their feet, dust themselves off and get ready to go again. -
*bursts through the door* Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
Anyway...no, I don't feel bad, because those people I save, just love to push me around, literally, I'll be standing there, chatting to some of my heroic friends and boom, ped shoved halfway down the street! -
If we can't get Carnival of Shadows Masks then take the suggestion from upthread please Noble_Savage.
A porcelain mask (in female and male variants) that can have mask patterns applied to it (lipstick, lipstick with makeup etc. those ones).
Edit: Also agree with Tyger, Signature NPCs get Signature pieces which keep them unique, everything else should be fair game. -
Hmm yeah the griefing players arguement does fall down, especially with regards the fact I actually OWN a temp power Carnival of Shadows Ring Mistress costume that I managed to snag from a forum contest.
As was said before, make pieces available but not the whole thing.
Carnival of Shadows:
Mask.
Sash.
Harlequinn bustier top.
That leaves out the boots and a variety of tops from the rest of the group.
The Freakshow just the chest detail (looks like it is pumping Excelsior right into their heart) and the arms (hammer and claw variations). We can't then recreate the hair, the pierced tongue face or the shoulders to go with it.
