Quote:Agree, really wish I'd made my namesake Bots/Traps instead of Bots/Forcefields.Bots/bubbles is a very high powered MM. It's also dreadfully boring because you steamroll everything while being safe behind your bubbles. Doesn't help that bubbles isn't an active secondary either. That's where traps is much more fun that bubbles imo.
With the IO sets you can now be as safe as you are with Bots/FF but have the addition of traps to go with it, it doesn't take too much to softcap a Bots/Traps to all positions.
It's also the problem that Forcefields brings nothing beyond 'more defense' compared to most other sets which atleast have some form of debuff.
Forcefields is definitely a set that could do with a total revamp. -
It can be done tastefully, like the Jeff Wayne's war of the Worlds stage version which uses a large styrofoam sculpture with a projection onto it which is the amalgamation of the top half of Richard Burtons face (made using CGI so it could blink and such) and the lower half of an actor with similar face structure speaking the words (since Burton was the narrator) to create a 3D CGI Richard Burton.
They merely used it for the narration, they never had it say anything different than he had done in the original version of Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds and was honestly, quite well done.
As you can see here, it is well done but there is the obvious tells that something is slightly off -
Eh what can you do?
Even the fact Castle has posted in the thread that shall not be named did not save it and I did ask Mod06 if he could reinstate it but got a kindly worded but firm no as the response and that in order to discuss the tropes of MMOs you would end up even hinting at another MMO which is why they're not allowed.
Anyway back on topic.
Speaking of which has there ever been a Borrowers PnPRPG, now there's a scenario where a regular rat goes from 'why did you get me to beat this up again?' to 'oh my god, it's going to kill us all!'.
Personally I'd use the Rat as a fakeout fight, you see the giant rat everyone prepares for it, then the cat (which to a tiny person like a Borrower would be the equivilent of Godzilla) comes along and noms it midfight, if you stay to try and face the moggy of doom then you're a goner so you have to flee.
Would reinforce the players that some things are just not meant to be beaten in that world unless you have a small army of tiny people.
Of course there's always a bigger cat -
Quote:Man this is pure evil right there...I know atleast one GM who would give us loving descriptions of just how vile these things of teeth and tentacles are that could be rats if created by H.P. Lovecraft.*Pseudonatural is particularly fun trait to give the rats. It basically means "wrong". Like "Oh god, that's not supposed to have tentacles and teeth there!" wrong. Imagine a rat turning itself inside out, revealing a scary amount of internal teeth and tentacles then latching on to the Rogue's face. That's a Pseudonatural rat. Now imagine 20 of them in a swarm.

Well since MMO game mechanics/tropes are not to be discuss...at all...I'll move onto Tabletop gaming, the one bastion of games we geeks have left on this board apparently.
R.O.U.S.
Rodents Of Unusual Size.
Pretty much the first thing a GM use to place any players unfamiliar with the game system against. Normally nothing more than fodder for a starting adventurer and rarely, if ever, used after this moment.
Rats have become a cliche in themselves even for this use, most prefering to simply use monster like Kobolds instead of resorting to ROUS.
Isn't it time these unloved rodents got a day in the limelight once more?
While they're overused in other media, in PnPRPGs they've slowly vanished from usage.
Of course there are exceptions, in the Warhammer tabletop wargaming and PnPRPG the ROUS is the calling card of Skaven involvement and normally the first sign of something not being quite right with the location.
So ROUS, you may be hated in some circles but in PnPRPG we do still love you.
Perhaps it is nostalgia for days gone by but I for one would like to see atleast one GM include a basement full of rats to be cleaned out as a homage to this early days of PnP gaming.
Perhaps people can even include their PnP stories of encountering the ROUS if you'd like. -
Damn shame to see you go, had great fun RPing with you back in the day on villainside.
Well there goes the only person holding The Corporation back from vengence on Dr Mechano, I think he shall have to go into hiding.
-
While it's not 2 incarnate shards, got this haul off of Romulous Augustus (normal version, not Nictus).

Wow someone is bitter the Random Number God took a disliking to him recently.
Skilled players are the ones running the taskforces OR soloing at x8 difficulty doing things.
You don't HAVE to grind for Shards, you can go balls to the wall and do Taskforces back to back (like I did the first day to got my uncommon Damage boost) but you can also take your sweet time and simply do the things you normally do, heck I got three shards just doing my daily 5 tip missions.
The whole point of the Incarnate system is that unlike other games which do the whole 'gear treadmill' and are less about skill and more about herding 25-40 cats at once this endgame system is completely soloable, it'll take you freaking ages to get the very rare stuff but a week or so of doing your 5 tips a day will net you both A-merits and Incarnate shards.
Besides just who the hell are you to determine a player 'unworthy' exactly.
Oh and big news, the new Taskforces are a rarity when it comes to the things actually being done, you see they don't award Incarnate Salvage and every other Taskforce does so the same taskforces people were running for merits are now being run for Incarnate shards and Salvage.
Plus just where in the hell are they going to get all this 'massive content', they don't just fart out these missions and even when they do they're not always well recieved (some people hate the Ramiel unlock arc, others love it). Not sure if you knew this but the build the devs work on, is usually an issue or two infront of what we're playing.
Seriously, 'unworthy players' and 'insult to the playerbase'? Get over yourself man, I went balls to the wall and got two uncommon Incarnate boosts in three days does that make me more worthy than you?
Perhaps it does. -
Hmm I'm seeing the opposite BI and seeing a usually fairl even distribution of Shards on the Taskforces I run, almost everyone will get between 6 and 10 shards and I've never seen anybody get none, sometimes on Taskforces that don't lend themselves well to kill all or (as I prefer to) Kill most (you kill everything on the way to the target but don't clear the map) such as the Khan Taskforce (which has two huge outdoor maps which would take a decent chunk of time to clear) where someone only got 3 shards and the rest of us were on 6 or more.
-
Yup had the RNG's blessing during the Lady Grey Taskforce run yesterday.
One group of Rikti gave me 2 Incarnate shards and someone else the Armageddon proc. -
So it's now 3 days since Issue 19 release and I'm now sporting two Uncommon Incarnate Boosts.
Which is nice. -
Quote:You're not the only one Dante, British and can't stand him either.Don't worry, neither do I and I'm British so supposedly I'm meant to get his humour. Go figure.
His problem is the same as Jack Black, every film he is in he is just...well Ricky Gervais, he never seems to be able to do any different and I find his comedy style to be 'meh'.
Also I loved this movie and yeah, it also showed that, unlike Gervais, a great actor like De Niro is willing and able to do different roles. -
Well considering the anecdotal evidence through talking with other people it seems the drop rate on same level/x2 or x3/Bosses when solo is 1 Shard every 3 mission so running Tip missions is normally enough to get you one shard while doing your 5 tip missions a day.
Sometimes you do get lucky though, managed to get 3 Incarnate Shards in one mission yesterday and none of the rest of the missions.
The RNG is a fickle mistress. -
I could have got the common Boost within two hours but I was saving shards so I could buy the two salvage I needed for the Uncommon and to upgrade one of those salvage (16 shards since I had already purchases Gr'ai Matter with Vanguard merits).
So I ran the STF (1 hour 30 minutes), the LGTF (1 hour 30 minutes) and Khan (1 hour) for the taskforces themselves, factor in waiting for enough people to get their incarnate slots to run a Taskforce (1 hour) and the breaks between taskforces, organising teams etc. (40 minutes) and I managed to go from no Incarnate boost to Uncommon Incarnate boost in 5 hours 40 minutes.
Shard Total for each taskforce:
Statesman Taskforce: 7 Shards.
Lady Grey Taskforce: 6 Shards.
Dr Khan Taskforce: 6 Shards.
Total: 19 Shards. -
Even though several of my characters live in Kings Row, I actually would have loved to have seen a Battle Damaged Kings Row, complete with low level Praetorian enemies here and there. Would show some kind of storyline progression, as the ingame story goes on Kings Row could be rebuilt and retaken.
Unlike the Rikti invasion where that is obvious evidence that we are at war (they bomb the crap out of things, REALLY hard to ignore that) the two new taskforces may have a wrecked Kings Row but outside of it everything is back to normal...a real kind of disconnect which is a shame.
I suspect it was a time limitation more than anything...that and the devs hate mucking around with old zones...for whatever reason they give. -
As became apparent during Beta test, one of the key things to do is simply not go in the room, if you have a ranged attack like say Hurl or the vet reward Nemesis Staff/Blackwand you can actually single pull each EB out of the Rikti room and deal with them there.
Or you can simply drop this mission, having done it on test, I picked this option. -
Male Arachnos agents that display Psi powers are taught to focus them inwardly and are funnelled into the Bane Spider program. If they show no aptitude for Psi but are otherwise exemplary agents with good leadership skills they are promoted up to Wolf Spider Huntsman and if they're willing to undergo extensive training and surgery they go into the Crab spiders.
Female Arachnos agents that display Psi powers are taught to focus them outwardly, if they are gifted enough in Precognition and have higher mental prowess than physical prowess they get shifted into the Fortunatas, a little Psi skill but greater combat skills, into the Night Widows.
If I remember my fluff correctly it goes:
Wolf Spiders: Regular police force.
Crab Spiders: SWAT division.
Bane Spiders: Military Commando unit. -
It's a shame, very sad news.
It's also a shame his more recent movies were (through no fault of his own) so utterly rubbish, it is quite telling when a guy as funny as Leslie Nielsen was can't make your utter tripe of a movie any better. -
Hmm unfortunately the key organiser for stuff on the Union EU server doesn't post on the forums and also that is incredibly snazzy Schismatrix, clear, concise and funky looking, nicely done.
-
Also agreeing with Dante.
Lets take it to PMs people and let people discuss what actually matters, like what they're doing with their Incarnate characters.
Sorry you NA folks, we now return you to your scheduled programming, the Unionites will be moving on under threat of micro-kitten injection.
Think nanobot sized kittens, there is just so much d'awwww in your bloodstream you literally become incapable of doing anything but thinking of very cute kittens.
You have all be warned!
Edit: Sending you a PM Dante, I'm getting a hankering for some plot organising. -
Ah yes...forgot the son of Dracula had requirements for a Hadouken in his fireball throwing.
Or if you're actually Dracula reincarnated as a white haired pretty boy in a fur lined coat, it is just the matter of absorbing the right soul, then you get the funky phresh three fireballs. -
Actually Ammon, the thread had fairly quietened down until you came in again and we'd begun discussing the topic at hand.
Yes I overreacted (try existing of four hours sleep a night for long periods of time because you can't seem to sleep for any longer despite being so tired...it isn't much fun) and for that I apologise.
I, along with others, were some of the people backing you during the Heroes for People plot which, much more than this issue, split the EU community at the time, yes I may be passionate, yes GG can be hard to get into and cliquey but I'll be damned if I don't enjoy large plots.
Though I am wondering where this 'told they do forum RP wrong' comes from, so far all I've seen is that the US and EU side both have very different styles...which seems to be a fair assessment and nobody has called it 'wrong' just different. I am posting this on my US account, I've RPed on the US side, even got involved in some of the open US orginated RP threads (unfortunately I really couldn't keep up with Patches which is a pain in the backside because I was enjoying it...hence using a moment from it as my sig but it was finding the time to both catch up and post).
Plus you'll know that I'm one of the supporters of larger forum RP, heck I use to run them myself, I have two to my name (The Chronodyne plot which involved 3 supergroups over the period of two weeks and 'Reign of the Prankster' (I lack a catchy name for it, really would like a decent name) that I mentioned earlier).
Infact I am in talks now with Devious about doing an multiverse plot (which I admit certain people at GG will ignore...which is more their loss really).
As Zortel has no doubt mentioned that the history of the EU RP community runs in cycles and this is just another one of those events.
Quote:Bah you know the only legitimate vampire fireball attack is for it to come in column of three as you swish open your cape (atleast until the vampire is partially defeated by a man in a leather skirt and whip, in which case you go all one winged angel and switch to the second form...usually something large and demonic but a grosstastic pile of organs is also fine).Leon will probably end up more empowered... an Incarnate of himself, more likely, given he is the Sire of the DeFeurard bloodline. I know for sure I'll be using Judgement to give him a mega impressive fireball attack to fit his background -
Well unfortunately I can't run a plot like I use to, don't know why but just can't get me head around it, otherwise I'd be very much up for running an virtue/union interdimensional plot, heck Mechano has the technology...at the moment...
Though admittedly this is probably because I'm waiting on the 'demise of Dr Mechano' to get started but Crazy_Dragon is busy with many, many things at the moment and Omega_Chief seems to have dropped out (still interested just not able to post). The idea for the plot seemed to come at a really bad time when the two other people involved are at Uni or doing Nanowrimo (to be fair if I had known it was going to take this long to solve I may have reconsidered it, since it means I'm kind of tied with what I can do with Mechano).
Mind you that's the idea of a very much closed RP that will have Unionverse implications, it takes out an established character for a decent period of time (just as his trips to the Virtueverse did) and what remains of the company will be auctioned off...now who gets what remains all depends, I suspect The Corporation would be interested in aquiring Necrotech industries assetts.
Sure most of the building is going to go kaboom thanks to the Metroid effect but there will still be a factory for sale and any tech that survived the blast, including one slightly used washing machine powered death laser.
Oh there will also be a video will and testament, now that is going to be fun.
Quote:This I will definitely agree on, I've tried out a number of alts and one definitely does have to 'fit the GG mould' in order to get anywhere decent. However being a former villainside player where we lack the daily meeting I'm also use to the more freeform of Pocket D RP as well, infact that was what enabled Dr Mechano's rise to infamy!I will agree with FFM about how to approuch geting started at GG, but unless you have built your characterto fit the GG mould you will not get very far, if your not part of the GG social scene you will not get any interation beyond a hello. i have seen a number of excellent RPers try out a new Alt a GG, and get nowhere with it, while there normal GG toon works fine.
Well that and the downfall of EVIL (European Villainous Immorality League) which meant he came out of the shadow of some of the bigger villain players at the time.
Quote:The "global" plots of recent times do not seemed to have effected GG much, so can not the same be true for the future?
Also forum RP can happen with regards the EU side, infact before the merger it did use to happen a lot more as most of the big plots were usually on the forums to be as universal as possible, much like the Open Season one is.
I really do need to break out my namesake more before his demise.
Also I find trying out concepts quite hard at GG, for example I was told very specifically before hand that I wasn't allowed to merely copy my concept of Gelatinous Ruse (think Gelatinous Cube in small shapeshifting goo girl form that swallowed a portable hole...so yes she does devouring anything non-metal and has use of Hammerspace) since people would find it 'annoying' (she can say a very limited selection of words 'Goo' being the main one, which is how she got her name from the people she RP'd with in Virtue Pocket D).
Without that the concept just didn't really work and thus she remains abandoned and unloved on Union.

Now the matter at hand, strangely enough while arguing against the whole 'the well has to be everything to do with Incarnates' stoof the one character I'm taking Incarnate (Amy Zon, Invuln/SS tanker) is more than happy to say that she is being empowered by a mystical force, heck her father is a Mad Scientist who used both science and magic on occasions.
She will claim to have become an Incarnate of Hercules, admittedly the system doesn't work that way at all but heck she isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the box and she will believe what she wants to believe.
